Did Hall voters get it right?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Cal Ripken Jr. and Tony Gwynn were elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility, but Mark McGwire did not. Do you agree?
Do you think McGwire will eventually be elected?

ATTENTION Mark McGwire! We’re not here to talk about your future, so forget the Hall of Fame. Your arrogance alone should ban you from any further consideration. I do have an idea though. Go get re-juiced and join the Senior PGA tour. I hear that Bode Miller and OJ Simpson are looking for another disgraced athlete to complete a threesome.

I agree with my good friends at the BBWAA and do not believe McGuire should get in, not solely because of the juice but because of his numbers. He was a completely one dimensional player. Aside from the home runs, he was an average run producer with a mediocre batting average. He has the lowest lifetime batting average of any member of the 500 homer club. He hit .200 one year. And he was on the juice.
If Dale Murphy and I can’t get in, neither should he. I only lied for 15 years. He cheated. You have to draw the line.
No, I did not cheat, those 10 greenies I took before every game were for a thyroid problem. Or whatever it was I said in my book, available on Amazon.com.
Speaking of lines, man did I hit it big taking Florida and the points! Well, off to make some folding money by signing autographs at Bally’s!

Bonds won’t be getting in either, or Sosa. The three stooges, no way, never.

Hey Mark, I’ll bet you a box of fresh syringes Bonds doesn’t get in either.

Baseball can longer ignore the steroid issue. How embarrassing will it be for the game to have a new Home Run King (Bonds) that the sportwriters won’t elect in the Hall of Fame? And I would agree with them 100 percent! I had long thought that MLB would find a way to get Bonds out gracefully before he claimed the record but now I’m not so sure. The most hallowed record in all of professional sports will forever have an asterisk beside it.

All you guys out there hating on “juice” get over it. Its not your body and it does not create an athlete, it only enhances thier ability of what they already do. Alot more athletes are on it then you know about. It’s not right but stop making a big beal about it, these guys would kick your a!! on it or of it anyway. So keep crunching numbers and go do your cardio with the ladies.

I don’t believe anyone who knows a thing about baseball would have expected McGwire to be elected this year even without the steroid questions. He was a good player, and I do think he deserves to be elected eventually, unless it’s proven that he broke laws or MLB rules (which hasn’t happened yet, for him or Bonds).
But he just isn’t in the same category as Ripken and Gwynn. Few players are. Ripken and Gwynn will constitute one of the highest quality Hall of Fame classes in baseball history, for their stellar performance on the field and their classy behavior off it. Now, if we could just get the media to concentrate on that instead of continuing to beat a dead horse …

Contrary to popular belief, Bonds WILL get in. And he will because he had the numbers to do before the steroid scandal

Get Over It aka Raisin Testicles or Baby Balls, how much can ya bench? I bet you’re one of the gym freaks that still makes six bucks an hour on your job, IF you have one, ‘cuz you can’t change jobs cuz it gets in the way of your work outs.

Hmmm, I wonder what happens if we find out Clemens used steroids, too?

Ok EW did I hit a nerve, did you get picked on a little bit when you were little, didn’t make the team, bench warmer? Sorry, by the way there are people who still bench weights and have jobs, but I guess sitting on the couch eating donughts is your preference. I don’t believe in steriods but its not a big deal and its not a drug, so who cares??????

EW, come on man do you hate people who work out?? Are you a undershape or overshape? Is that your excuse for not going to the gym, or everyone you see in shape is on steriods?? I bet your one of the techie nerds who sit in front of a computer 24 hours a day chatting and blogging all day, asking for pics??

Pete Rose, PETE ROSE, PETE ROSE, PETE ROSE, the greatest player not in the HALL. It is not a hall-o-fame without Pete Rose. There are a mess of male whores, liares, cheats, and drunks in the HALL. Gambling was the norm in the 20’s and Y’ll (the media) know it. Drinking was illegal in the 20’s too and how many players are in the HALL for that period? The BASEBALL HALL OF FAME is a joke as much as the NBA of TODAY is. Whores, drunks, thugs, theives, pimps, and trash. I want ever go to either in my LIFE. College sports is where it is at.

Just like Paul Molitor and Dennis Eckersley had their glory rudely stolen by Pete Rose in 2004, Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken are getting their glory rudely stolen by Mark McGwire. Five years from now, people won’t even remember that Gwynn and Ripken made it, but they will still be talking about McGwire and whether he should make it or not.

I have to agree with Tony Gwynn and put McGwire in the Hall. Baseball was having a big love fest with McGwire and Sosa in 1998 and everybody was making tons of money. Baseball sat back and counted the $$$ and looked the other way. With Sosa and Bonds around the corner, this is going to be a bigger fiasco than the Black Sox scandal.
Of course, if Bonds doesn’t go in, the greatest home run hitter and the dude with the most base hits will be excluded from the HOF, which casts a great reflection on the national “passed” time. Heck, Bonds and Bonds, Jr. (his enormous noggin) have never tested positive!

Hey, Chris, Does “College sports is where it is at.” apply to the U of M,(or the U) football program? btw, the National Felon League is worse than the NBA anyday of the week.
