I think he goes to Tampa.

I think he will be close to top 10 if not top 10. As a bulldawg fan, I’m breathing easier now that he is gone….but as a Falcon’s fan, I’m hoping we figure out a way to keep him home.

Lets Just home the Raiders pass on him. Same With Detroit. Vick does not deserve this talent. He is the most amazing talent in years! He wont make it past 5.

The Falcons should trade Schaub, the 10th overall pick, and whatever else they have to give up to the Raiders or Lions and take Calvin with the first or second pick.

He’ll at least be 2nd overall since everyone knows that the Detroit Lions always spend a top 10 pick on a WR (GM Matt Millen is an idiot). Go Calvin!!!

Calvin will be in the Top 5. I would say he will be the 4th pick overall. The best reciever by far in the draft. The Falcons need to replace Rodey Thug White with Calvin

Hopefully not to Oakland or Tampa Bay. I can cheer for him anywhere, but I’ll just feel bad for him if he gets stuck in Oakland. Maybe Petrino will trade Vick to move up and grab him!

I know why he declared. He heard Paul Oliver was coming back, then decided he didn’t want to wait around an entire year to catch 2 passes for 23 yards against the Dawgs. Oh, Calvin, what great things you could have done in Red and Black. Too bad you went 0-3 against your biggest rival. Loser.

The highest Calvin Johnson will go is third, assuming the Raiders take JaMarcus Russell of LSU or Brady Quinn of Notre Dame. I don’t see the Lions picking a WR again. Other than the Cardinels at #5, every one of the top 10 could use a WR. No way does he go any lower than #10, the Atlanta Falcons. Arther Blank know how to market his team. CJ would be a good draw.

I agree with you B, I think he goes to Tampa. It pains me to think that we might have to face him twice a year. I hope the Falcons can find a way to keep him home. But let the Falcon fans tell it he will be another bust. Lmao he cant be any worse than those duds we have now. Just wait until after this season and they will still drop balls and touchdowns while CJ will be tearing the league up in Tampa, while we continue to make excuses for our sorry a* wide recievers. Good luck CJ whever you go.

Shaub & Hartwell to the Raiders for #1 and a later pick (obviously for a DB), and draft Calvin.

By DKM

January 8, 2007 12:34 PM | Link to this

Now that Calvin has decided, trade Michael Vick to Oakland for the #1 pick and an offensive lineman and draft him. There is not a team in the NFL that could stop Schaub(6’5) to Finneran(6’5), Johnson(speedy 6’7), Crumpler (6’4) with Norwood and Dunn running and catching in the backfield. Every corner in the league would be overmatched! Coach Petrino would become the winningest coach in Falcon history in two seasons! They would dominate for at least five seasons!

By Rod

The Falcons should try and trade Schaub (he’s worth a 1st and 3rd round pick based upon free agency) along with another draft pic to Oakland or Detroit and nab Johnson.

By ROH

January 8, 2007 12:36 PM | Link to this

TechIsGay-ley..who are you calling a loser??? You have to remember Calvin had a great season with a loser at quarterback. What you should be saying is Paul Oliver came back because he has to come back to play one more year of football before going back to his home town to work for the local water department!

By Matt

January 8, 2007 12:36 PM | Link to this

The Cardinals probably want Dwayne Jarrett (Leinart’s favorite target from USC, especially is Norm Chow is hired before draft day) or an OL. Oak and Det need QB’s so look for CJ to go around 5-8.
I personally think Jarrett is the better overall talent. He was injured this season, otherwise would’ve been a Heisman finalist.

As a true DAWG fan, this guy CJ, is one of the best wide recievers i ever watched play college ball. He has size, speed, and the hands to be one of elite in the NFL. I am glad to see him go as a dawg, but just as eveyone ahead of me as posted, man it would be nice to see him in ATL as a a falcon. I bleed red and black for the dawgs, but eveyone, even us DAWG fans, needs to give it up for MR. CALVIN JOHNSON. A GREAT PLAYMAKER!!!!!!!

overrated! he does not run very good routes and he gives up on plays. other than that he should work out fine. the falcons will get him and he will fit in nicely with the other overrated, non-catching, wide outs atl has. i can’t see him going ahead of jarrett (usc) and he’s not that physical to be that big. he plays like he went to tech.

For once, I’d like to hear a well thought out retort from a Techie without them resorting to references of how much money I make (you have no clue), how I’m “stupid” because I went to Georgia, or how all of our student-athletes will work manual labor jobs after they leave Georgia. By the way, there is nothing an honest days work, I did plenty of it in high school and college. I look back on it fondly as a means to an end now that I employ several dozen Techies.

“Jerry” - nice comment about CJ breaking his ACLs….how would you feel if I typed in “Break a Neck” about Pollack?! What a stand-out he was…great guy too. Little jealousy here about CJ?!

ALSO - I’m sure somewhere down the road (sooner than later), that a TECH Management Grad will unfortunately be managing your a*….and hopefully FIRING you shortly thereafter…

It was NEVER CJ’s fault for his ineffectiveness in ANY game QB’d by Reggie Ball…Get it? People say, “Can you imagine CJ’s numbers if he had anyone else throwing him the ball besides Reggie Ball?”

Having known Mr. Johnson personally, it pains me to read some of the things said in this blog. First of all, wishing harm on someone is a true reflection of one’s character, so I don’t have to take that statement any further. Secondly, for those who thinks he is overrated maybe you should check his statistics. They don’t lie. Having accomplished what he did with the help that he had, I would say that he is pretty awesome. Third, knowing him personally I can attest to the fact that he is far from the “Dunb Jock”. He is very intelligent and maybe you guys should at least try considering some facts before you make statements about him, which have no merit. Now, to answer the question, OF COURSE. Top 5 at the least and I will be cheering him on the entire way. It doesn’t matter where he goes, he will be successful. He has pure talent and that can’t be changed. WAY TO GO CALVIN!!!!

He should go late in the first round. He he a great player, but he is a reciever. A WR should never go higher than 15th in the draft.

I’ll put it this way-Calvin had the best game of his career in the Gator Bowl and Georgia Tech LOST.

The top 4 draft picks go to Oakland, Detroit, Cleveland, and Tampa Bay. I can see why Detroit would pass him up, but I don’t see how all three of the other teams will. Of course, it would be nice if the Falcons could swap Schaub and the #10 pick for the #1 or #3 (Oakland and Cleveland could use a quarterback) and pick up Calvin. He is a top 4 pick in this year’s draft, and by far the best wide receiver prospect.

CJ will be one of the 1st 2 WRs taken (Jarrett, USC). They are comparable in abilities.

For those who wish major injury to ANYBODY, karma will take care of you.

I always used to be disgusted with student-athletes who left for the draft early, until I was reminded that the “4 year scholarship” is actually a “1 yr athletic grant” (term actually used at Vandy) that is renewable 4 times (5 times for red-shirting). Also, I starting pondering what I would do if, as a regular engineering student, a company offered me a position, decent salary (I’m not EVEN talking millions, just thousands) and the time to finish my degree over the next few years. No question I would jump.

And for his character/work ethic: he is not your borderline, “I”m-just-taking-enough-classes-to-stay eligible-until-I-can-be-drafted” athlete using college as a semi-pro league. Give him a few offseasons, and he WILL have his degree.

Also, on some of Choice’s big runs this year, you can see #21 delivering a block that gets him additional yardage, much like Hines Ward does (yes, I CAN acknowledge good accomplishments by former UGa players).

Good luck, Calvin. True GT fans will wish you the best, in whatever you do.

I think he will go in the first round, definitely. I would love for him to be a Falcon, but he will not last that long.

You Hillbillies never fail to show your true colors?

What makes Reggie Ball, C. Johnson, Vick and Roddy White thugs? “Thug” is the new N-word.

You love these “thugs” when they are in college helping your teams win, but as soon as it’s time for them to get a pay check…they are “Thugs”.

Don’t be upset because these “thugs” will make more money in a month than you will in your lifetimes…lolol

The fact of the matter is, you (and the rest of the class-warfare techies) don’t know how much money anybody on this blog makes, so just quit generalizing. Again, would you people please realize 5 things.

  • Calvin will go in the top 5, long before we get to pick.

  • WE CAN’T TRADE Vick, the hit on the Salary Cap would be terrible. Vick received a $37 MILLION dollar signing bonus in 04 for a 10 year contract. This means trading him would count somewhere around a 27 to 30 MILLION dollar hit against the $110 million dollar salary cap THIS YEAR. ANYONE want to give up one third of the team. Because that is what would have to happen. This is not the NBA or the MLB. We are STUCK!!! It simply can’t be done.

  • Blank likes Vick.

  • Petrino was hired to help Vick. Plain and simple.

  • Due to Vick being here, Schaub will be gone, hopefully we will be able to get a 1st if not a 1st and 3rd rounder out of him. I wish Schaub the best.

  • Please don’t think that I am pro-Vick, I don’t think Vick could throw a pass with “touch” if his life depended on it. Do I think in the long run we would be better with Schaub….yes. Are we gonna have that chance….no. This is the Mike Vick show and we had all better get used to it.

    NFL ECONOMICS 101

    Michael Vick’s cap hits are as follows; $7.8 million (2006); $12.4 million (2007); $13.4 million (2008); $15.4 million (2009); $16.9 million (2010); $13.5 million (2011); $13 million (2012); $15 million (2013); and $17 million (2014).

A trade involving Vick would count $23.5 million towards the Falcons 2007 salary cap the instant you trade him. We would be in cap hell and have to drop half the roster. Vick isn’t going anywhere. Vick has about 30 million left in guarantees. He has a 37 million signing bonus over 10 yrs and only 2 years into it. Vick CAN’T be traded or cut period! That is fact. Bye Scott Mitchell, I mean Matt Schaub.

And stop using the word “thug” as code for the N word. You bigots aren’t fooling anyone.

Actually EricGT93, as a gt fan, I’m surprised at your characterization of CJ’s talent. Even though I rooted against him for the last 3 years, I think he’s head and shoulders above Dwayne Jarrett in NFL potential. My take is that he has the speed, leaping ability, and hands of Randy Moss with more upper body strength. He truly is a once in a generation type of talent at his position. Really, college football as a whole suffered by not pairing him with a decent QB.

Why does the conversation always go to race when someone critisizes Vick, Roddy, or D-Hall. They have earned the right to get ridiculed just like I think Brooking is overhyped and last i checked he is white. I would love to see Calvin come to Atl but unless we do something drastic to trade up using our #10 pick and one of our QB’s for a Top 5 pick which makes no sense. We are at #10 and in great shape to address our weak offensive line, a top tier Saftey, middle linebacker, d-line, or d-end which all those are greater needs. We have given our QB’s 5 #1 draft picks to work with, White, Jenkins, Lelie, Crumpler, and Dunn all are first rouders so lets address the meat of the team and get tough up front and on defense. Only way I get anything else is if Adrian Peterson drops b/c he is too good to pass on and Norwood is not the tough runner our new coach likes to work with.

In all seriousness, from a diehard Dawg fan, congratulations to Calvin not just on having a great career but also for, by all accounts, being a great and upstanding person off the field. I hope he becomes a superstar in the NFL — I would hope the Redskins somehow get the chance to draft him, but I doubt he’ll even last until the sixth pick.

Calvin Johnson is a great player and a great person; if you can’t see that from his TV interviews and the way he handles himself on the field, so be it. I doubt he really cares what anyone on this blog is saying to or about him. His mom is proud of him, I’m sure. And the state of Georgia (no matter what school, class, race, or gender you are) should be proud too.

I love my Jackets as much as the next Tech fan, but it truly pained me to see Pollack’s situation. He’s also a great guy with class and ethics and standards. School affiliations never matter in situations like that.

Unless he gets hurt or posts some suprisingly underachieving NFL workout numbers (assuming he won’t attend the combine), he should be a top 3-5 pick. Hey Techisgay-ley,

If you know someone who has the game recorded. You may want to go back and review the 2 plays on the goal line, Oliver got credit for “breaking up”. The first, Calvin was wide open to the inside, Ball threw the ball behind CJ, which allowed Oliver to catch up with the play. The second was open to the outside, Ball threw it to high and to the inside again, allowing Oliver to ” make the play”. A good QB, yes even Stafford, would have delivered the ball where it needed to be, and 2 TD on Oliver, instead of headlines on his coverage.

As far as calling Calvin a loser, really shows how little character you have. But with Odell showing everyone what a prime example should be, no wonder you do not understand class from crass!!!

As i read this blog, i still wonder why everyone on here talks about Michael Vick so much, being the subject is about Calvin Johnson and where he will go next year. And its real funny to me how almost everyone in Atl wants to get rid of Vick when just about every team in the NFL would love to have the guy. Guess this is just another example of how Atl has some of the worst fans in football. Im not going to go into great detail about why Vick will stay in Atl and be QB next year because i would take up entirely too much space on this blog. Plus,we are supposed to be talking about Calvin Johnson, not Vick. But i will say that Calvin Johnson is an amazing talent and id love to see him in a Falcons uniform next year. I believe our new coach Petrino could work wonders with him and i believe he would be very successful for this franchise. If we are able to grab him in the draft, we should not pass on him. McKay will do his very best to pick him up if he and the staff feel it will help to improve this team. He will go in the top 10 and hopefully the Falcons will make the call and be one step closer to the Superbowl.

Johnson will be gone by the 3rd pick. What the Falcons need to do if they are smart is trade schaub and our 10th pick to any of the teams who have the 1st - 3rd pick and the Falcons draft Calvin Johnson. The falcons made a mistake when they drafted Roddy White instead of Reggie Brown two years ago. If they are smart they will trade up to get Calvin Johnson. We need another home grown talent.

If I were Rich McKay i would think about trading the # 10 pick, Matt Schaub, and one of our questionable recievers for C.J. This would be the only way to keep him away from Tampa Baywhich is very necessary. If the bucs had Johnson he’d absolutely embarrass our secondary.

Russell and Quinn are going 1-2. Tampa needs to rebuild their defense. Cleveland needs a qb and could go Smith from OSU, might be willing to trade down to pick up Smith later. Arizona doesn’t need WR, probably will be looking for o-line help. Houston maybe, but probably running back - Peterson. Miami, maybe but probably a qb - Brohm or defense. Minn is a definite yes, they will be looking for a big play wr, if they don’t trade for one of Arizona’s. Washington, probably not, they just spent a kajillion dollars on two free agent receiver who didn’t do much. Flacons - probably not. I can’t see them investing another first round pick on a receiver unless they are able to trade one of their other first rounders, but I don’t think there’s a market out there for them.

Calvin is one of the top two talents I’ve seen at Tech since ‘98 (other is Hamilton). I know that’s not a long time to compare athletes, but I grew up an FSU fan before going to college, so I saw good athletes. He’s the best receiver I’ve seen play college football - past or present. He’ll be a prize to any team that drafts him. We’ll miss him because he’s done so much for this school and state. He’s a class guy with a class family. I hope he stays that way. BankDawg - Calvin’s stats against Georgia sucked because Ball sucked against UGA. Something about the pressure on Ball to beat the arch-rival brought out the worse suckiness in a sucky quarterback. Yeah, I ain’t gonna miss him next year.

Jerry - I hope your tied to a pole to the rest of your life having to watch Calvin highlights, both the ones from Tech and the ones he WILL have in the NFL. Better yet, you’ll be tied to a pole after you tear both your ACLs and have to go through rehab. Screw you loser.

Can Chan - You’re an idiot. There sure are reasons to can chan, but this ain’t one of them. I missed where all those guaranteed top 5 draft picks were staying on for Richt or any other college coach.

Petrino and Blank need to do whatever the hell they can to get Calvin. The Falcons’ primary need is at WR and he could seriously make the franchise. He could what Michael Vick did for the Falcons 10 times over. And it doesn’t really matter who’s QB. Calvin will do for the QB what Moss did for Culpepper in Minnesota: make even a mediocre quarterback look good.

It’s Cleveland or Tampa. The Raiders need a lot more than a WR on the offensive side of the ball. Detroit couldn’t possible take a 4th WR in 5 years.

For all you Falcons’ fans, I’d suggest you find a DRAFT VALUE CHART and see how many points you would need to couple with your 10th pick to rise to the top 3. I hate to tell you, but it’s a heck of lot more than you’ll give up.

Calvin with the Falcons with Vick at QB would be the same misery he has had the last 3 years. I’m not a Tech fan but even I wouldn’t wish that on him. to continue what I was saying…Washington might take big Cal… Minnesota probably will draft him if he falls there… Houston will pass if he is available… Miami will pass if he is still there… the Falcons will not draft a wide receiver in the first round unless they make a trade for a different pick (Falcons go with the top defensive back with number 10)… San Francisco will draft Calvin… here’s the conclusion… Calvin will not go 1 or 2, he could go 3 or 4, if not, he will go 6 or 7. If for some reason he is available past 7, there will be no reason he is not drafted 11th… done and done.

I am a tech fan and let me first say that I am glad to hear that David Pollack could play football again if every thing goes well, and it looks that way. The falcons do need to try and do everything they can to get Calvin. Maybe everybody will get off Vicks back then. Anybody who watched the falcons knows that none of our recievers can catch a cold. Congrats Calvin you deserve the best and that is what you will be in the NFL, I will miss you and your class on and off the football feild.

Go Jackets I know you called me an idiot…Were you looking in the mirror when you said it? You don’t have a CLUE, do you? CJ ALWAYS wanted to play 4 years at GT, from the day he committed.

CJ was SERIOUSLY considering staying, unlike the Dawgs who went PRO immediately after their Toilet Bowl Game. In fact, MANY of the so-called sports writers and analysts predicted he would stay at GT. He didn’t because of ONE REASON: CHAN GAILEY (If not for Coach’s extreme incompetence, then because his Coach just boarded a plane to go on an interview!)

Here’s some background for you so you can learn to DO RESEARCH and KNOW YOUR SUBJECT before you start mouthing off and showing your ignorance:

**Johnson says he has not and will not contemplate next year until after the bowl game. He has spent three years telling everyone who asks he intends to play four years for the Yellow Jackets. Head coach Chan Gailey spent 16 years in the NFL and predicts instant pro stardom for Johnson. Yet he still assumes Johnson will return.

And so do I. It takes a contrarian to know a contrarian, and Johnson is a modern-day Galileo in cleats. He picked Georgia Tech and catching passes from Reggie Ball over Georgia and highly regarded quarterbacks David Greene and D.J. Shockley.

He is a guy who, given the choice last summer of helping design environmentally friendly luxury condos or building a better third-world toilet, picked the dirty job. He is the anti-star, unwilling to demand attention - or more touches in Georgia Tech’s offense - despite being featured in Sports Illustrated and anointed as the college football’s most talented player by TV analysts.

Bennett won’t harass Johnson about his future from Jan. 2-15. He won’t threaten to poison his mouthwash or spike his shampoo with Icy Hot. But Bennett will convey a message to his roomie every chance he gets.

“We could do magical things if (you) come back,” Bennett will tell Johnson.

    Don’t worry, Taylor, he will.**

    Thanks again CHAN…You’re MAGICAL!

Calvin doesn’t need a Heisman trophy, a good QB, or a degree from Tech to show that he is a class guy. I have no doubt in my mind that he made the right choice in going to Tech, and in going pro. He’s one of the best football players I’ve ever seen. It’s his dream to go pro, and he’s living it. We will miss him at Tech, but we respect him for doing what his heart desires! GO CALVIN FUTURE PRO HALL OF FAME WIDE RECIEVER!!!

To the rest of the Jackets- good luck and work hard, and let’s go find another Calvin!

I for one can’t give a rip what Calvin has decided. He’s a non-factor against the Dawgs. Maybe Duke and UNC are celebrating, but we couldn’t care less. The only useful thing he could do next year in that puke-gold jersey is boost Paul Oliver’s draft status - AFTER Oliver schools him again and sends him home with his tail between his legs - AGAIN

Man i wish the falcons could somehow get him! Then wed have a true #1 reciever. I say do whatever we gotta do to move up and grab him! Id rather us trade vick than schuab thou. Wow what a offense wed have with finneran and crumpler short , and CJ and lelie running deep routes…with schuab throwing the ball!! i like vick and wanna like him even thou he lacks fire and heart. but he can take his 0-17 record when loosing after 3 quarters to oakland with him for all i care! I think that last game schuab led us into the redzone more times than vick did all season in the 4th.

Calvin Johnson is the best football player ever from the state of GA. He will be an NFL Hall of Famer and shatter all receiving records. Yes… even better than Herschel Walker. What is sad is that Gailey failed as a head coach in maximizing this talent. Tech should have beaten Notre Dame, Georgia, Wake Forest, and West Virgina. They had the tools but the head coach didn’t have the sack to bench Reggie Ball in lieu of Taylor Bennett. Congrats CJ…from another GT alum #21. We want you to be the No. 1 pick and screw Brady Quinn. While he too will have a nice career, he played a bunch of cream puffs and got smoked when the tough competition showed up. ND should be forced to join a conference and play some real football.

Calvin Johnson’s the most awesome receiver I’ve ever seen in college ball. I can only imagine that some of you Georgia fans don’t watch much football outside of the SEC, and you are basing your criticisms on 3 games that were not his best.

I think the pro scouts, coaches, media and everyone else in the business has consistently praised Calvin’s accomplishments. Anyone who claims differently just didn’t see him or is a homer and therefore in denial. (I can see many such Georgia fans above).

I can tell you one thing, us Clemson fans are glad he’s gone! Go Tigers!

Calvin I hate seeing you leave. But, I have to say it was a wise decision. Calvin will be picked up #4 by the Bucs. So, at least he comes home once a year. I agree Oakland will take Russell, he is extremely talented and might put some spark in a lifeless time. Brady Quinn, will defiately thrive in Detroit. Peterson will be the running back from the Brownies, At #4 Calvin Johnson will be the new WR for the Bucs!!

GT01: Actually, Idiot, you need to do your homework. Calvin came in as a Building/Construction major, but had to tuck tail and ride the Management train shortly thereafter. Techie, I know people at Tech and they always b*** because he has it so easy. So you can continue under the delusion that Calvin is an engineer, but the fact of the matter is that he is just a football player. Oh, and he never beat Georgia, and now he never will. There is that little difference. Stings doesn’t it?

I’m a very dedicated UGA fan, and father of a UGA grad. I spend way to much time on Rivals, Scouts, and all other links and national nwespapers, looking for, what I hope is, the best available talent from HS that could come to UGA and helpl bring us to another national championship. With all that being said… I am also a father and business man. There is one thing, in particular, that struck me about the AJC article regarding his decision to go pro. This quote re:

“Calvin said he has not yet signed with an agent, but plans to choose on by month’s end, then begin preparing for the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.”

He has obvioulsy been thinking about this for quite some time.

Forget it guys, Atlanta will not win the CJ sweep stakes. None of those teams in front will take an extra pick to give away a game breaker. He’s extra big, fast, great hands, intelligent, good team player. Besides the Falcons want a different kind of player, like overated, overpaid, and no class. All joking aside, the Falcons need offensive linemen, and more than one. Maybe a sleeper cornerback/safety in the later rounds.

I was, of course, hoping against hope to see more Bennett to Johnson magic next year but totally support CJ’s decision and wish him well. I’d rather have GT beat UGA in football than any other sporting event but I would never wish a UGA player ill. I was greatly saddened by David Pollock’s injury. I rooted against him while he was at UGA but I wish that this talented and hard-nosed player had been on our team and not been injured. And for my fellow GT fans: enough complaining about Gailey and Reggie! And enough ragging on UGA fans about career success! It’s about our football team, not about whose graduates have better jobs!

We can all wish and dream can’t we? Vick threw 14 interceps this year and last. So he tied a career high. 2004 he threw 13. He had a career and mediocre 20 TD’s this past sesaon. He’s not gonna get any better. However he is Author’s baby boy. It can be done. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Trade Vick and the #10 pick to the Lions. Get Calvin Johnson and keep Schaub. Send as many emails regarding this matter to the new Falcon’s HC.

I know about Vick’s contract. Can’t the Lions or whoever might want him buy it outright? Just asking?

Can’t cry over spilled milk as they say. Reggie is gone, thankfully. I didn’t want to she Calvin leave, but if someone waved 25 million in my face…..

Looking forward to seeing Taylor next season. POLL: Who will Tech best #2 WR next year? James Johnson should be #1.

This just in - saw on Sportscenter this morning that if Bobby Petrino doesn’t think it will work out with Vick after the first year, he’ll have the authority to seek a trade for him.

No question he is going in the second round, Calvin has tremendous hands and he is a smart guy on and off the field. I can’t see him going lower than No.2 I don’t think the Falcons is a good choice for him, Vick is not the idea QB for him to play with.

I think in the NFL where your 40 and your height carry a lot of weight with gm’s that Calvin will most likely be top 10 possibly even top 5, the only thing that would worry my is seeing the UGA tapes where he is just shut down. Big time players should never be shutdown particularly in big games.

This whole blog is stupid! A bunch of idiots arguing back and forth! Calvin Johnson is the best athelete to ever attend georgia tech or uga, and yes that includes your illiterate idol Herschell Walker. As far as the bloggers who question calvin’s ability. Why don’t you get your fat a* off the sofa and go try your skills. You are not worthy to wash his jock. This is about Calvin and I am personally gratefull for what he has done and the class that he has exhibited during his time at tech. I wish him all the success possible.

I hope CJ goes to Tampa for selfish reasons…so I can watch every game in our Florida TV market. My 2nd hope would be the ‘Trade Vick to OAK so CJ lands in Atlanta’ scenario. That is only if Vick is gone because i would hate to see Calvin subjected to any more time with a QB that is so athletic everyone thinks he is good, but can’t see downfield and thus loses. If CJ had played with a team with a decent throwing QB….even one that performed as Bennet did in the Gator Bowl, he would have set all time national records in every category, won the Heisman, and been Knighted by the Queen of England or something. That could have been at UGA, or at Tech without Reggie Ball&Chain (Chan’s fault). Imagine CJ at Notre Dame with Quinn or at USC?
Of course he should go pro. No one on this blog would walk away from 5 to 10 million $….and that is what every year out of the NFL would cost him….not to mention the injury chances, etc. I was thankful to watch him at Tech, and look forward to watching hime every Sunday. He will dominate the NFL recieving world from his rookie year forward. His draftability (I know, no such word) is much greater than Moss, TO, Bush, etc., because he has something way beyond all of them…CHARACTER. Add that to unmatched speed, strength, size, hand eye coordination, and you have a draftee like no other. OAK might take him just to trade him, unless they work out a deal before the draft. TO who? Moss on what? Clear out, CJ is arriving.

Uh, Herschel was valedictorian of his high school class (Johnson County HS). And for those of you making fun of his highschool, Tech actually signed Brad Jefferson from Johnson County this year. And no, he’s not valedictorian. He isn’t even going to qualify. You bunch of jealous pukes make me sick.

Calvin Johnson will be to the NFL draft what Chris Bosh was to the NBA’s: an outstanding player whose lack of national exposure will cause him to be a “surprise” at the pre-draft workouts. He will go higher in the draft than expected, behind one or two “sure things” … and then will be an immediate star as a pro. As with Bosh, his combination talent and character will be welcomed by fans.

I will agree that CJ’s talent is in the ballpark with Herschel but to say that he’s surpassed him is an absolutely ludicrous statement. Beyond that, Herschel carried his team to a NC while CJ carried his to a division title in the worst major conference in the country. Nothing against Calvin but making that comparison is like comparing Butterbean to Muhammad Ali.

Top 5 pick without a doubt. He would be Top 3 pick but a lot of teams need a QB first.

I read these comments on this blog, and I must admit I have to laugh. You can live under any old myth you want to Tech fans. The fact of the matter is I have worked in Finance and Development for the last fifteen years, and I have NEVER worked for a Tech grad, nor have I EVER known a Tech Grad to employ anyone in Banking. Face it, the vast majority of Tech grads are number crunching drones who work FOR someone. Most Tech grads have ZERO people skills and don’t know how to talk to people (as evidenced on this blog). They might be able to balance their checkbooks, but they absolutely CANNOT sell, develop relationships, or close a deal. Tech people are numbers dorks, not big picture people, and they’re doomed to be mediocre their whole lives.

Yes I’m sad to see Calvin go but I can’t blame him. The last think I would want is for him to see him hurt and ruin a future NFL hall of fame career. If he is not injured and plays a full career he wil by one of the bets of all time. For those of you UGA fans that think Calvin did not have great games against you, you are right but that was not Calvins fault. You forgot who he had throwing the ball to him. If Taylor Bennet had been throwing him the ball his numbers would have been great. I have to agree with the blogger who wrote about what Calvin’s numbers would have been like had he had a Matt Lienart, Brain Brohm or even UGA’s David Greene throwing him the ball. Even with Reggie throwing him the ball, had Calvin played a full 4 years he would have had some of the best numbers of all time. UGA nation be gald we did not have a great QB or the last 3 years would have been a lot different. I’m glad to see some others who agree that the Falcons should trade Vick to move up in the draft to get Calvin. Clearing up Vicks salary would allow the Falcons to sign Calvin and 2 quality offensive lineman to block for Matt Shaub. Good luck Calvin thanks for the great memories and being a great example of a Tech student-athlete.

For a 4-Star recruit, CJ did well at GT (uga doesn’t do as well with their bench full of 5-star boys, maybe CG is better than MR at promoting talent?). Top 5 pick for sure.

We all remember Ken Swilling who came back for his senior year and injured his ankle. Good Luck Calvin - we’ll enjoy seeing you on Sundays!

    Dumb pointless blog.
We wont know of the horse trading going on behind the scenes until the last minute. Calvin’s Mama is praying for him not to to end up in Detriot or Oakland so I suspect he wont. My speculation is as good as yours.
