UGA serving The Butler well?

Peachtree Ridge kicker Drew Butler, son of former Georgia and NFL kicking great Kevin Butler, is reportedly considering whether to walk on at his father’s alma mater or accept one of the offers from Duke or Memphis, the two schools that have so far extended him full scholarships.

Should Butler even be in the position of having to decide if he’d like to walk on at UGA, where his father Kevin remains a kicking legend? Does Drew Butler deserves a scholarship offer from his father’s university? Should he take the scholarship offer from one of the other schools? Would there be UGA backlash if Butler chose not to walk on at his dad’s alma mater? Give us your take on what Butler - and Georgia - should do.

Sign Jr as quickly as possible… Kicking is a huge part of the game and you can bet this kid has his father’s genes.

I guess it depends on how good of a kicker he is. Apparently UGA doesn’t consider him to be good enough for a scholarship. Unless they just don’t normally scholarship kickers.

But I don’t think he should be scholarshipped Just because he is Butler’s son.

they usually ask kickers to walk on and earn a scholarship. andy bailey was given a scholarship out of high school, and we know how that turned out. couto, on the other hand, was a walk-on who kicked well and was offered a scholarship this year.

It would be UGA’s loss. I have watched him kick for the last 2 years @ PRHS & his punting gave us field position when we needed it, his kick offs see the end zone quite often & he has good distance for field goals. It would give UGA a kicker that can do it all if needed.

I love Butler, but we need to go back to the “earn your ‘ship” kickers. If he’s good, he’ll get a scholly soon enough.

Give us his stats. Despite what the ajc thinks of the typical UGA fan, some us do think with our heads as well as our hearts.

I would however, hazard the guess that, his family would not endure financial hardship if they had to pay his way at Georgia.

I didn’t see the kind of talent in him that his dad had, but I only saw the championship game. Young man, you may develop in college to be an NFL caliber player. You can do that at Duke and get a great education. Take that deal. Im a Dawg fan, but let’s face it, you’re a kicker. Kickers can thrive anywhere. A Duke degree is hard to come by.

If Drew is a real Bulldog and I think he probably is, he will walk on and punt for us next year and possibly kick off. Then in 2008 earn the schlorship and be the full time placekicker if he is good enough. Only time will tell. He will get the Hope Schloraship anyway as he is a smart young man. That will cover him in 2007.

His family can afford to pay for his college education.

He should concentrate on which school can provide the best education. Football should be a sideline that could possibly give him a financial foothold on life (NFL).

So many miss the opportunity to take advantage of the college degree. ie: Reggie Ball

I hope that Georgia will wise up, make a great PR move and offer Butler a scholarship. I mean, good grief, the kid is not going to be another disappointment like Joe T. Drew Butler has already proven that he has what it takes, and Lord knows the gene pool is deep enough!

Drew, PLEASE forget about Duke. Duke is where potential football greats go to see their careers die. Kevin, please put your kicking foot in motion and steer the lad toward Athens!
