Vick’s gesture
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Michael Vick exchanged words with fans after the Falcons’ loss to New Orleans and made an obscene gesture, for which he later apologized. Should Vick be punished beyond the NFL’s standard fine for such behavior?

As I stated about 4 losses ago. Praise him one week, fine him the next. The dude is human. But if that is going to make some of you FAIR weather friends content, go ahead and fine him the little measely $5,000 dollars which isent even a spit in the bucket to what him brings him a month but since you of your little feelings are Hurt because through you Some love with the middle finger. Many of you had you been in his shoes probably would have did the same thing..shot the bird.or worst.its over for the birds this season. The start off with so much promise..then.a big disappointing end to a season.

nah, he can’t help it. it’s in his genes. he’s related to Marcus and we know what a class act he was. Vick’s a superstar (or at least he’s paid like one) he should get all the free passes he wants. However, it would be more appropriate if he flicked birds at his wide receivers and not the fans.

I think losing and a fine are punishment enough. Also, since Vick apologized I feel I should apologize as well. After the Falcons lost to the Saints on Monday night a few weeks back, I claimed they gave it away because of the first game at the reopened Superdome, and that the Falcons were a better team than that, etc. Well, I was wrong….the Falcons really are that terrible! So sad to have to admit that one.

not only were vicks comments rude and completely disrespectful but very dissapointing for a player of his stature and experience, he has been in the nfl long enough to know how to deal with this kind of situation with fans and flipping them off can not be tolerated i’m sure if schwab was givin the starting job he might show a little more respect even shockley and he is a rookie he better not take his position for granted or it might maybe should be taken from him if he doesn’t start earning his paycheck on and off the field.

Bench Vick for both his poor performance and for his attitude. He is an embarrassment to the city, to the fans, and to athletes of all ages.

Let’s do the same to him that they are doing to Michael Richards - not a darned thing! People get angry and do not always handle their problems in the best possible way. Get past it. I get sick and tired of these armchair quarterbacks trashing our team - everyone does not always play well (can you say Pittsburgh Steelers, last years Superbowl Champs??). Learn from your mistakes and keep rollin’.

No, he should not be punished beyond the NFL’s standard fine for such behavior. He should be punished for being a poor team leader, regardless of how many yards he gains or how many passes are dropped by his receivers. Maybe someone should introduce him to them sometime. Apparently they have never met.

No. He should be fined, not suspended.
And Jon, I can tell you what Schaub can do: NOTHING! Our O-line is a turnstyle and our receivers have bricks for hands.

It represents what I saw at the Dome. It was my first Falcons game in 5 or 6 years. It used to be a nice place to take a family. Now it is no place for kids. I wouldnt let my wife go to the bathroom alone, as i was scared for her safety. Between the knee deep bottles in the parking lots, the drunk retards behind us screaming F* this and F* that. The guy the vomited in the bathroom, and the other thug crap going on. Not only will i not go, i will no longer go even with free tickets! Thank god these were free!

I think Vick was just frustrated although he should know how to act by now. I wouldn’t fine or bench Vick. I would fine Jim Mora for poor coaching. The Falcons can’t win a game or the superbowl kicking field goals and running the exact same plays they have been all season. Fine and fire Jim!!!

Clearly No QB wants to lose a game 4 in a row. Clearly looking on the faces of the falcons they were hurt and upset. Regardless of how long he has been playing, and it matters not how many games or touchdowns or his accomplishments his fans are fair weather. Just because you purchased a ticket and the game didnt go as you would hoped it go, gives you the right to trash the players. If you as a fan are going to be that emotional. stay home and watch it on TV like the rest of us. I was upset but I wasent trashing any of our players. If any one acts like spoiled out of control children..it is you fair weather fans. As for you racist ones, well considering the source :-/ I rest my case..in other words ” i would expect nothing better from the likes of some of you” not suprised by some of your comments..it figures.

Mike should have gave the finger to DeAngela Hall for trying to pad his stats instead of knocking the ball down in the end zone, yeah I called him DeAngela cause he played like a girl. Mike Vick played his heart out and all you folks do is berate the guy. I am not mad at you Mike but please do not let these idiots get to you, you put Atlanta on the MAP. Talk about obscene; the AJC has a picture posted of Blank on the sidelines again. Will someone - maybe one of the other owners - please tell him that he looks like an idiot down there? Going out and bothering a sales clerk in one of you stores was one thing, Arthur, but distracting the head coach of your professional football franchise is something else all together. The clerk didn’t work any harder after your visit and the players won’t either. Stay in the office where you belong.

Okay..Let me first say what Mike did was not “the right thing to do”. We all know this and most importantly, so does Mike. One incident does not tell someone’s character. Character is when you are running for your life every week and receivers are dropping passes and you stand there and accept responsibility for thier mistakes. Greg Knapp is a poor playcaller at best this season. The facts are this..Mike is not having a bad season. He plays the same every week, makes the same passes every week. We know what we get with Mike and Warrick each week. The difference in the Falcons winning or losing has been the production of the receivers..POINT BLANK. When they catch balls and make plays..we win. Mike accepts responsibility for the teams losses each week and never bad mouths his teammates. He has been in Atlanta over 5 years and has been nothing but positive. He is humble, God fearing and gives back to the community with every opportunity. Yes he made a mistake and lost his head, but let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I hope when he got into the locker room he layed into those receivers and Greg Knapp.

I was so happy to see the Saints beat the Falcons AGAIN. I was so sick and tired of hearing that everything was “stacked against” the Falcons when they played the Saints in the Superdome. The Saints played with heart, the Falcons looked like they had everything else on their minds but football. Vick is a really good athlete but they had better teach him how to pass (although the DROPPED passes didn’t help either. If he keeps running like that, he is going to wind up hurt and out of a job real soon. One person cannot win a game all by themselves. Now I bet we start hearing calls to dump Mora…….

Don’t waste your time watching spoilled brats. This (Michael Vick’s attitude) is why I don’t watch ANY professional sports. They are overpaid, egotistical, hoods that think they are God’s gift to the world. Watch college football instead. They play for the love of the sport, their teammates and their college….not just for the money. Michael Vick has no class and is overrated.

Vick has got to go, fire him, gone. adios. Trade him while we can get someone halfway decent for him and before we have a thuggish Miami stlye brawl on the field or a drive by.

Here we go again!! I get so sick of fairweather Falcon fans criticizing Michael Vick, because our coaching staff can’t call appropriate plays and our receivers can’t catch. Get a grip and learn the game if you really want to comment. Without mentioning names, we have bloggers referring to Vick as a “thug”. Tell me when has Michael gotten in trouble with the law? As for the finger, he was probably flipping those same idiots off. While not justified, I do understand his frustration. In addition to the “thug” comments, we have someone suggesting that we get rid of Vick and use the salary on receivers that can catch the ball. Again, how stupid. By making that comment you’re acknowleging that the ball is getting to the receivers, which is a quarterbacks job.
On the other hand, we have bloggers who understand the game and deservedly should be comment on this team. First, I didn’t recall seeing number 7 on the field at the end of the first half, during the “hail mary” play. Hall should’ve knocked the ball to the ground, instead of trying to make a play. Funny how these same fans had his scrotum hanging from their chins after Pitt and Cincy. Matt Schaub, who has 1 career win, could not win those games. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
I have a suggestion for Michael Vick also. Hang a mistletoe from the small of your back for all of your detractors and play ball.

Man, not only is Vick and the Falcons an up and down team but so are the Atlanta fans. As long as Vick plays well, the city is behind him but God forbid he play bad or the Falcons go on a losing streak. Atlanta Falcon football fans are a bunch of bandwagon hypocrites. What Vick did was wrong. He is supposed to be the leader of this team and is the reason the fans come to see the games. So he has to know he is going to be cruicifed when he or the team plays like they did and if he acts like he did. People will always judge him no matter what he does or how well he plays. Look at Brett Favre. Possibly should have retired a couple of years ago when he was losing games and throwing more interceptions than touchdown but the fans didn’t boo him. Yes, I know he’s a future Hall of Famer, hell, I played against him in college and he beat my college team on a last second drive. So I knew he was going to be great. Mike is an up and down player with probably the greatest “potential” of any player in the league to be great but he has to have the other pieces of the chess game around him to be great. Unfortunately he does not have all those pieces, players, coaches and including faithful fans.

Yes! He should be fined more than he will be fined by the NFL because he was caught and his gesture was shown on national TV. If he should blame anyone on his playing ability, it should be himself not the fans. Hasn’t he ever heard of freedom of speech? The fans should be able to express themselves and their disapproval of the Falcons. Michael is supposed to be the leader of the team but he showed his leading ability with his gesture.

Arthur Blank - you go where ever it is you want to. If it weren’t for you - we’d still have a crappy looking Dome, Dan Reeves as the coach and more losses than we have now. This Fan thanks you. First off people, that game was not Vick’s fault. He did everything he could to win but the fans blame him for some reason. Roddy(shoddy) White dropped a sure TD right in his friggin hands and Jenkins dropped another pass that was thrown perfect to him in stride that he could have easily scored on. Our WR’s SUCK people!! Its not all Vick’s fault at all especially this game. And I don’t give a s** if he flicked some drunk fan off that had no business blaming him for this loss. We need new WR’s and we need to fire MORA. He is an idiot of a coach

Oh and one more note I ‘d like to make is Blank should never have fired Reeves. Vick had his best year under Reeves. Should never have hired some rookie punk coach like Mora who has no head coaching experience whatsoever. He is a players coach and doens’t discipline the thugs on our team like Deangelo Hall who sits on the sidelines listening to his frigging IPOD when the offense is on the field. I mean give me a break and hire some coach that will whip these panzies in shape and quit acting like their buddies.

$ 2,000.00 for season tickets where I can go pay $ 40.00 to park and drink $ 7.75 beer and watch a below average team. Our defensive secondary looks like a bunch “Goin Gray” Ray Buchanans. That includes Mr Hall. I’m sick of watching him waving to his fan club while receivers run by him. He’ll break up a 5 yard pass and act like T O, only to be burned on a 40 yard play two downs later.
Get an offensive line that can give Mike time. Look at Peyton Manning and Brady. They can make a ham sandwich in the pocket before they have to throw the ball.

Hey, Freddy Grant! If he laid into Greg Knapp as you suggested, that would be really classy on his part. Knapp is his coach. I don’t know where you played, but that lack of respect for your coach should not be tolerated at any level. By the way, Vick is not having a good season as you suggest. Just take a look at his ranking in the categories for QBs. Rushing is his only good stat. I don’t know why people will not get over the fact that rushing QBs do NOT win week in and week out. He’s fun to watch when he runs, but that’s not how you win in the NFL. Blank drafted him as a marketing tool and it’s working. Winning is not required, so don’t expect it.

Hey guys, i’m not a falcon fan but i really must say that the demise of the falcons is not really Michael Vick’s fault. Sure i think that Mike needs to take on better leadership with this ball club and perhaps mature a little bit more, but the losses cannot be explained away as Mike being a bad QB. The coaches are the ones to blame for the teams demise. They have no earthly idea what they are doing. They don’t know when to call what plays. The sooner Arthur gets rid of them, the better the ball club will be. They will then start to post w’s in the win column. Now my team is THE DALLAS COWBOYS, they will be coming to town on December 16, 2006. I’ll be out on a tail gate tip. BE THERE OR BE SQUARE. We intend to kick some bird booty. Now let Michael Vick shoot that, LOL!!!!

The down side or cons of being a star QB. Handsome, wealthy, talented but cant apease the fans. Instead of being Happy right now the birds have a heavy heart. Falcon fans really drive in to stone the concept that Money isent everything or constitues happiness when you play for the NFL. I hope Vick and the others are saving for a rainy day because when those Legs slow down..the insults been thrown at him now will feel like cotton balls compared to whats coming in the future when he slows down, and he will. I say maybe at 30(which is old for fast runner)I can hear yall now..”Vick needs to go sit down, he cant run no more!”

Quotes that sum up the Saints loss-
“This is a league,”[New Orleans Wide Receiver Joe] Horn said, “where if you don’t do your job, they run your [butt] off. Those guys better wake up and smell the coffee and start catching the damned football. I can’t blame [Vick] for, you know, being upset at them sometimes.”
“We have three first-round draft choices at wide receiver and none of them can catch the ball,” [Arthur] Blank told [Fox Sports’] Tony Siragusa after the game.
Vick’s words: “I can’t explain how I feel. Somewhere along the line, guys have to start catching the ball.”

Steve Young - Tampa Bay franchise with poor direction and poor coaching= a quarterback going nowhere. Steve Young - San Francisco franchise with winning attitude, players who can catch a football, and coaching to the quarterback strengths = Super Bowl and Hall of Fame Career. The same thing is going to happen with Michael Vick once the fans run him out of town. If the fans would have been able to handle MV at quarterback and Lovie Smite as a head coach, then everyone would be talking about the Falcons instead of the Bears. Could you imagine the Bears if they had Mike Vick instead of Rex Grossman?
Atlanta fans get what they deserve, I hope Mike Vick gets trade just to show all the haters how stupid they are when he lifts the Lombardi trophy for another franchise.

The Falcons HAVE the worst fans in the entire league. First of all they really do not have a fan base. Most people in Atlanta are from other states who moved to Atlanta. Therefore they want to cheer for Atlanta but only if they are winning. Now that the Falcons are losing these folks who relocated to Atlanta are against them. This is a problem with all the Atlanta sports teams and fan support. This is a city with so many folks who are not from here and refuse to be a true supporter of the teams in Atlanta, this is simply a BANDWAGON CITY. I hope the Falcons, Hawks, Thrashers and Braves understand that it is not personal with the lack of fan base but the idnentify of the city.

The problem is that people in Atlanta love Michael Vick but from looking from the outside in he is not a good NFL quarterback. I was listening to a saints radio broadcast yesterday and one of the anouncers made a good point. On a lot of the passes he throws, he forces his receivers to adjust instead of throwing a good ball. This is not college football, a NFL teams needs a quarterback that can throw the ball not run around like a headless monkey carrying the football with 3 fingers like a hot potato.
Lets see what Matt S. can do!!!!

The only reason there is any conversation at ALL about the Falcons is because of Michael Vick. This team couldn’t get a sell-out game after its Super Bowl run…and now the only draw for the last 6 years, you want gone? Again as an Atlanta Falcons fan ITS NOT MIKE VICK’S FAULT. Our receivers suck so bad it makes me sick. They dropped at least 2 TD’s out there yesterday and numerous other balls. Our pass defense is a joke. Deangelo Hall is a joke as well. What an overrated piece of garbage who has been burned so many times this year for long TD’s its not even funny. Maybe he should quit running his big mouth for a change and try defending his man. That guy talks more trash than anyone i’ve ever seen and DOESN’T back it up by any means. Nice defense Hall on the 4th play of the game when Devery(Who) Henderson burned for a 79yd TD. Quit acting like a thug and play some defense

The apology should come from Mora for having such a SORRY ability to select key receivers! The Receivers(or lack thereof) deserved the bird yesterday-but do you give the bird to your “teammates” (for lack of a better word) and suffer the locker room tension and the public scrutiny for talking badly about your teammates or give it to the loudly BOOOING fans who probably didn’t see the gesture (I was there, I didn’t see it). When asked who played yesterday- my reply is Mike Vick against New Orleans! Schaub would have been in the same shoes… no recievers, and less running yards (HATERS.)They should pay Mike for doing the receivers job.

here’s the long and short of it. vick has been coddled and, as a result, has very unrealistic expectations. he is a modern day bobby douglas, a mediocre qb who can do some spectacular things with his feet. he is like a nyc basketball legend, able to do some things that take your breath away, but not very good in a team format. is he the equal of tony romo - no way. vick believes that he is a superstar, when he is really little more than a millstone around the team’s neck in the tradition of Gary Sheffield, Walter Berry, and TOdor. Time for the Falcons to trade Vick for someone who might develop into a leader and a winner rather than keeping this ignoramus around for us to sufffer through. Look at this “leader’s” comment about Roddy White, hardly indicative of the big shoulders that lift a team to victory, but wholly consistent with a small mind that does not recognize his own short comings and that which it takes to contribute to the greater good.

What Vick did yesterday was inexcusable even if it was understandable. It was a tough day (one of many) that he’s endured. That being said, if ANY other player has been suspended for such an act I say the same should be handed out to Vick. No player is above reproach, period. It’s hard to do but as a professional athlete you have to take the bad with the good. The fans, particularly in my section, pay good money and haven’t gotten much return for their investment. Call me a ‘Vick Hater’ if you will but he brings a large portion of this on himself. Granted he has had too many drops which cannot be blamed on him, but he fumbles entirely too much. Don’t forget either the fact that MANY Hall of Fame QB’s have been benched in their career. Maybe it’s time to do the same with Vick and see what happens.

To all those that want to trade Vick: No way any team in the league would take him for the price. The Falcons would have to subsidize a team to take Vick. Next: Vick is poorly coached. He did better in his one healthy year with Reeves because Reeves recognized his talents and limitations. Mora gave Vick a playbook only a few very bright QB’s understand. Vick is not that bright. Next: Only the most accurate QB’s could pass to these poor receivers and even then it’s a gamble. Vick is not a good passer. Next: Blank is a major distraction on the field. At least Jerry Jones actually played football. Blank probably doesn’t even throw a decent spiral. Blank needs to keep himself in the owners box. Next: The O-Line is fine. It run blocks wonderfully as evidenced that Atlanta is the best rushing team in the league. How can you pass block for a guy that can’t pass, doesn’t recognize open receivers and when he does the receivers drop the ball? Next: Defense. The defense needs a better secondary. Much better. Again, I think the defense lack good coaching more than good talent. I hate to say I told you so, but, I said Blank should have kept Reeves. Mora’s first year was reaping the quick rewards of Reeves’ work. Blank is not a football guy, he’s a fan with enough dough to buy a team.

So this is the way it goes? A fan, some who make fifteen bucks an hour and has to be cut corners to buy a ticket to a game or buy a season pass they really can’t afford, is not supposed to get frustrated and lose their cool because their team is losing week after week to teams they should be beating but its cool for a prima donna player that makes MILIONS to lose his cool because he can’t get the job done? Some of the ragging on the receivers is justified, but not all of it. Some of the passes Vick throws takes a lot of adjusting for a receiver to catch. The fault goes both ways, angry fans and frustrated players. All hope for this year is gone.

Look, this is easy. The Falcons just suck. With the exception of 1 year in the last 28-30 years they have sucked. High profile QBs and #1 draft picks don’t always get it done.
1 - Get rid of Vick. He knows nothing about getting it done as a team; it’s always, “look at me run!”(even in college) 2 - Get rid of Moira; just plain does not have it for this team. Maybe get Shula from Alabama now that he needs a job? He couldn’t do worse & you’d get him cheap as he’s unemployed now.Get some quality “hungry” team players;maybe some CFL guys or a college like Rutgers or East Louisville. The NFL(Atlanta too) is getting the same reputation as the NBA; dominated by thugs from the ‘hood without an ounce of sense. Most families I know will not go to Falcons games anymore and not because they are fair weather fans. Sure the Dome is safe if you buy the most expensive tickets. In the end the Falcons need a total gutting from Moira on down and keep that yahoo owner OFF the field at all times; it’s just stupid and it’s called micromanaging. In the meantime, fine Vick and then bench him 4 the rest of the season and let some other QB get a shot ‘cause Vick doesn’t have it.

DeAngelo Hall sucks and he blew this game giving up the 79yd TD on the 4th play of the game and then letting that other bum Copper on New Orleans catch the hail mary pass at the end of the half when all he had to do was swat it down. But NO Hall has to make some half a* effort let him catch it. What a joke this guy is! All he does is talk trash the entire game and is more overhyped than Vick for god’s sake. Trade this piece of garbage ASAP and get some damn receivers that can catch WIDE OPEN TD’s. Most of the people on this board could have caught that ball Roddy White dropped! This game was not Vick’s fault at all and if you think it is then your NUTS. His receivers dropped like 5 passes 2 which were sure TD’s.

But wait I forgot, he probably never leaves the democratic stronghold of Atlanta, where it currently ranks #3 among the homosexual population. so, basically, Vick is home-sweet-home, but just don’t leave the city limits, because Georgia (not Atlanta) is where he is not welcomed.

Yeah for all you morons out there that say Atlanta fans suck. Well you don’t know crap because I for one have always been a Falcons fan since i was little kid. I will still support them no matter what. But when your team goes out and spends the money it did on Defense this year in guys like Abraham, Hartwell, and so on and these bums can’t even get out on the field because of numerous nagging panzy injuries its frustrating. Everyone on our defense is hurt for petes sake. My point is they spent all this money to go to the Super Bowl this YEAR. Obviously thats not going to happen but when your management signs injury prone players like Abraham(who has had groin injuries his WHOLE career) it shows what kind of a joke our so-called management people know about football. Our RECEIVERS are the worst in the NFL. If I was Vick I would be scared everytime having to pass to Shoddy White or Michael Jenkins. Talk about two serious 1st round busts. My main point is Vick is not the problem here at all. This guy can make the pass easily but when you have TERRIBLE receivers to throw too what do you expect the guy to do for gods sake. Come on people! Were bashing the wrong person here. It’s the defense, receivers and the horrible coaching that is killing this team. BRING BACK REEVES! Blank is an idiot BTW too.

I must have been watching another game. Vick was the ONLY player on the Falcons that played well yesterday. 6 dropped passes and poor play calling are not his fault. Roddy White should never play another down for the Falcons. What a freakin joke. Without Mr Vick in that game, they get beat 50 to zip. Mora and Mckay should be shown the door. When is the last time, they had a good draft? Oh yeah, when Coach Reeves was making the picks. Jenkins and Roddy White. WOW. 2 wasted first rd picks in a row. I will give them credit for Norwood. What I find deeply disturbing are the racist comments in this blog. When Jake Plummer used an obsene gesture, no one called him a “thug” or “homie”; they simply said he was classless with bad manners. I wish people would use the same equilibrium. Michael Vick did not show leadership in this instance and he should be fined accordingly. Fans abuse their freedom of speech when they hurl insults at athletes because the team is losing. The Pittsburg Steelers are on a downward spiral, yet I see their fans traveling here to Atlanta to support them. The Falcons need an overhaul, but I don’t believe it’s the fault of one individual. The definition of “team” clearly states that.

Vick isn’t the best QB but he does play HARD. The problem for the Falcon’s isn’t 1 player- it’s the team. In order to win football games you MUST catch the ball and score. Which we haven’t done well in 4 weeks. Our receivers in particular Roddy White has been dropping good passes from Vick consistently over these last weeks.
As far as the flipping the bird- in Atlanta that is a form of HELLO on the highway. We all do it when we get frustrated driving in this traffic and I’m sure that most of us on the road at 5 pm are not Thugs. I don’t believe his action was appropriate but I nderstand!

Just as I thought……a bunch of full-time rednecks and part-time fans chiming in to bash Vick. Give him a fine and move on.
The Falcons problems are much bigger than Vick giving some redneck a deserved “peace sign”. Larger blame goes to Blank for not choosing Lovie Smith to be our coach. Lovie was more proven than Mora. The coaching staff are poor game planners on both sides of the ball. Vick merely covers many weaknesses of the coaching staff and offensive line. If the coaching staff, O line, and receivers put in half the effort Vick has………we would have a winning record.
BTW…..Schaub is merely another Doug Johnson. Didn’t we have this convo before? Rednecks have short memories too, I see.

Vick has no heart, no leadership skills, and as he’s continually shown zero class. He’s a great athlete, but he’s never going to win a championship as a QB. Trade him to someone else who is in love with potential and get something in return while you still can.

I honestly do not understand why fans or anyone is upset with Vick. He is a large (and sometimes the only) reason why the offense does anything at all. He throws on the money most of the time and he runs darn well.
I am most upset with the corp of recievers (and I use that title loosely with the Falcons). Vick hit them in the chest or hands multiple times and they simply dropped the passes. This is not the fault of Vick.
I say, keep Vick and get new recievers!

Nah… don’t fine Vick, don’t bench Vick, don’t fire Mora. Don’t do anything. Keep accepting the status quo until we lose the rest of our games and have ANOTHER FREAKIN’ LOSING SEASON! We can keep things as they are and enjoy all the franchise respect of a Detroit, Cleveland, or other perennial LOSER. For all the hype and bluster about Vick, he’s just a talented, but poorly coached piece on a talented, but poorly coached and underachieving football team. Don’t do anything, just let the fans stay home and watch ‘em lose on TV - or not.

I never in a MILLION years thought things would end up this bad. I was at the game and it was terrible. At one point I think we had more yards given to us by the refs calling penalties on the Saints then we had generated ourselves. It seemed it was Vick and the Refs vs the Saints. No one but Vick showed up. That is nothing but poor coaching and I don’t see how Mora holds on to this job. This team is filled with listless, spoiled, scary, ball-less, little girls. It is so painfully obvious that the guys aren’t prepared for anything and act like this is the first time they EVER played football. Blank should refund half of the season ticket holders money back. I say half because you can never predict winning or losing, but there is no excuse for not trying. This team is in serious dissarray from top to bottom. Blank, McKay, Mora, Knapp, and Donatell as well as the players (ESPECIALLY the rcvrs)are all responsible. This is typical of Atlanta franchises though. We not only lose, but look like total morons doing it. If there is a way to screw up a game, season, and/or playoff series- you better believe we invented it. This season is a total summation of the franchises here in the ATL the last thirty or forty years- bumbling fools with no guts. And then when I think it can’t get worse, I get home to find out MV7 had given the crowd a middle finget salute. Just great Mike, I understand we are all human, but man this season is already going down the tubes, don’t make it worse by embarrassing the franchise. This terrible, from the “roota to the toota” and I can’t think of anything else to say right now. This sucks.

Not to condone the hand gesture, but I’m donating $5 to help with the fine. Where do I send in the money to? Vic should’ve kicked the Gatorade table over weeks ago instead of letting everything come to a head like that! Instead of the hand gesture..not to approve his actions, but I see the Winning attitude! I just wish the whole team and coaches get the same attidude and run the table with the rest of the games left! The Playoffs start now! They have 5 bullets left.(ole soldier attidude..one shot one kill) Personal note to Vic…. Do what you do and it will all come out in the wash…as my grandparents would say. It will show if the team has bad receivers or bad DB’s or bad LB’s or bad coaching decisions. Personal note to Coaches… Try playing a 3-4 just to make the team call a time out…heck even take out the LB run the goal line defense on 1st and 10 on the 50. Be proactive not just reactive..What have you got to loose? It’s do or die time NOW! Play with reckless abandonment!! I miss the guys who’s job it was to be a wedge buster who would dive into the air to take out a pile of 3 or 4 blocker…That’s what ATLANTA is truely missing including the FANS…I miss the Atlanta Fulton County Stadium Fans that wouldn’t bail out on Steve Barkowski and you know he couldn’t play with this line.

I hope you all aren’t surprised by what happened on Sunday. Ron Mexico.. I mean Mike Vick has been in a rut every since the comments about him needing to be more of a passer came out a few weeks ago.. Bottom line is they suck as a team. And for Vick to lay blame on everybody for not catching the ball, HELLO, maybe he should learn how to run his offense a little better. True, there were a few catchable passes that should have turned into 7 but all in all, Vick is not running his team like a true QB should.I think maybe he needs to be reminded he is the QB and not the RB!!!! It’s pretty sad when the QB is the leading rusher on the team. And would Arthur Blank please stay his a$$ off the sidelines. He’s more of a distraction to the team than anything else… And way to go Big Jim on the comment about Vick being a coach killer. Why not add fuel to the fire that already burning out of control. At this rate, the Bucs will probably finish ahead of the Falcons!!!

I’m still looking for that self-esteem bone the Saints were supposed to throw back at the Falcons during this game. (During the blog for the Saints-Falcons game in the Superdome, someone posted that the Falcons would get it back in November). I remember a pity-bone being mentioned too and it looks like the Falcons couldn’t get that one either!

There is NO discipline on the Falcons team. Not from anyone. The owner walks around cuddling the players, remember when he was pushing Vick in a wheel chair on the sideline? That is not acceptable ownership practices. He should stay in his Box seat and let Mora TRY and concentrate on the game. Mora shows NO emotion, you never see him get in any of the players faces, he should!!!! If they make a mistake, he should show his disapproval, not by a finger gesture, like Vick, but with emotion. Vick should be benched for the next home game, his EGO needs a down sizing, mostly, Vick try to remember that you are a QB and that does not mean that you RUN on all plays. We do have running backs and a Tight End on the field. We need receivers!!!!

You people MUST have not watched the game if your blaming VICK for this loss. He is the only reason we even had a chance in this game. Are you people forgetting that his HORRIBLE receivers dropped numerous passes and 2 sure TD’s that would have put us ahead. Our secondary is AGAIN the worst in the NFL. DeAngelo Hall is a joke who gave up 2 td’s in this game and the one at the end of the half where all he had to do was knock it down was a complete debacle. This guy needs to get his butt whipped and quit acting like some gangster talking trash and fighting every chance he gets on the field. What a disgrace he is more than anyone on this team. Vick I’m still with ya and I hope we can get you a new coach and some new receivers.

This unappreciative city has driven Vick to this point and now has the quarterback and pro football team that it apparently deserves. Everyone who calls Vick a “thug” for this already thought he was and wanted this to happen. I’m sure that everyone yelling from the stands was a fine, upstanding person and that everyone facing the same situation would have simply turned the other cheek. I love Atlanta’s teams but am increasingly ashamed to be part of its fanbase, which is only mocked everywhere else.

Vick’s actions were inappropriate. However, the fans’ behavior is never called into question. It doesn’t matter how much money he makes or how much you paid for a ticket. You’re not entitled to act like a total jacka** when the home team loses. The Falcons wide receivers have hung Vick out to dry all season. Is he the most accurate of passers? No, there are going to be some incomplete passes in every game. The dropped passes have doomed the Falcons, but I think this game highlighted the team’s need to acquire a big time wide receiver. As for big AL, what game are you watching? Small mind? You’re a moron! The receivers couldn’t catch a cold. Vick has done just about everything for this team with little help from the other 10 guys on the field. Yes, he has his shortcomings. Why are the other 10 guys allowed a free pass when the Falcons lose? What about the offensive line that doesn’t block consistently? How about the wide receivers who drop touchdown passes? After yesterday and today, I’ve come to the conclusion that Atlanta deserves to have a losing team. You always criticize the wrong guy. Then that same guy comes back and bites you in the butt on another team. Then you guys stand around wondering why he didn’t do that here. Because it was never all his fault to begin with. (ie. Jason Terry, David Justice, and Dominique Wilkins and soon Mike Vick.)

If it “required” that he be fined by the NFL, then, pay the fine, accept his appology and move forward. No extra fine is warranted. It’s amazing how far from the original question people seem to wander. You’ve got everything here from racism to some uppity broad bragging about her luxury bathroom stall, to natives hating on the transplants. No Wonder Atlanta has no real fan base, They can’t concentrate on a simple question long enought to answer it, how can they give their devotion to a team (win or loose)?

Truth of the matter……..Vick is going nowhere soon baring injury. By the sounds of some of you, I wouldn’t put it past a redneck to pray for an injury to Vick, just to give Schaub a shot. Sooner than later, there will be coaching and personnel changes. Vick is the only man in the organization exempt from being touched. Accept it…..deal with it…..and move on. Who cares what Vick did by giving someone the finger! That stupid fan was probably drunk and acting like an idiot. Who cares! Vick is sick of getting blamed for EVERY single loss this poorly coached team has and I would be too. ITS NOT HIS FAULT! What Vick did was wrong, and his emotions got the best of him, but are we going to have to hear about this all week. He did not commit one of the felonies the Bengals are known for.
Can one person who describes Vick as a thug please give me an example of a specific thuggish behavior he has done. Do not point to the finger because I am sure you have done that before and do not consider yourself a thug. Like the Master said, “…throw the first stone.”

Perhaps the falcons should trade him to a team that could better use the talents he has, perhaps USC or Ohio State. After the second season the rest of the league figured out how to win against the falcons but he falcons did not adjust. Vick is the antithesis of Dan Marino. Dan never won a superbowl because he could not run, Vick won’t win because he cannot throw.

People get off of the man, he made a mistake with the finger but apologised, end of story. On the other hand get on DeAngelo Hall’s case he blew 2 TD’s and if you watch all the games like myself, he has blown alot of them this year. Get on the WR’s for dropping every pass thrown to them, get on the coaches for the worst red zone play calling in all of football, get on the uneducated football fan for screaming at the wrong guy (VICK). When Vick when the superbowl here in Atlanta I want the same dumba$$ folks on this blog to chim in then, oh he will bring Atlanta a suberbowl and YOU, yeah you with all the negative comments will be the first one on Peachtree with your 3 kids waiving at him saying how much you love him.

I have read many of the comments made. First let me say I am not a Falcon fan, but I watched the game yesterday. All i saw was Mike Vick working his butt off for a win and his supporting cast doing nothing. I guess Mike is suppose to be able to throw the ball and then be the one to catch it as well, and don’t forget we want Mike to block so he can pass the ball before he catches it. Get real, the man is not the entire team, to blame him for a loss shows how little Atlanta so-called fans know about the game. Mike keep doing your thing, because if ATL got stupid enough to let you go, the Falcons would still play the way they do and you will be somewhere else getting a superbowl like you deserve.

First off….lets get one thing straight…there is NO way Vick will even win a Superbowl…hell i doubt he’ll ever play in one. He’s not a good quarterback. He is an exciting player and being an athlete can make things happen, but he is not the type of quarterback that can win a superbowl.
You want me to shift blame to D-Hall…no problem…he’s been a punk azz b*** in the secondary who just rus his mouth.
So you think Vick should have been praised for his performance yesterday just because he played hard….unfortunatly “playing hard” doesnt put many points on. The falcons lost yesterday, the falcons fans voiced their opinions by booing….Vick reacted in the thug-like manner of which he knows…flick em off….a real class act, i dont care if he apologizes everyday for the rest of his career in atlanta…you cant erase what is done. I agree with the comments(most) that Vick played his butt off. I also admire his playing the role of QB and not dissing his putrid wide receivers. If Mr. Blank is ready to make changes, yesterday should give him a good starting point. Even the best passing QB looks weak if his receivers constantly drop the ball on the big plays. At least I learned the Saint’s cheer yesterday.

Hey Wall St.bro, don’t turn this into another race war for petes sake. Thats not what were saying. I love Vick and this game wasn’t his fault AT ALL!!! I also don’t think Vick is a thug by any means. One thug on this team is DeAngelo Hall who talks trash the entire game running his mouth and acting like some kind of gang member. He is always in fights on the field and talks like some uneducated idiot. He even threatened that one player from another team(can’t remember who it was but it was in an article on espn.com). The other player said he wants to put a good hit on the thug DeAngelo next game because of all of his antics. DeAngelo said to yeah “Bring his boys to my house. Vick was wrong, period!! He has to be the better person and he lowered himself by making that gesture to a fan.
This team has completely gone into the shi*tter…last week, the special teams did nothing; this week, the defense can’t get off the field when they need to. The Falcons D gives up more big plays on 3rd down than any “good” team is supposed to. D.Hall needs to STFU and make a play!! Injuries have hurt this team, but other teams have suffered injuries and have kept winning!!
Mora is probably going to get the boot, especially if the Falcons don’t make the playoffs…the coach always takes the fall. However, the players have to be accountable and they simply have not gotten it done the last four weeks.
Let’s stop all the race baiting and name calling on the blog…it accomplishes nothing but further exposing how the anonymity of the Web allows people to offer ignorance without fear of repercussion. GO FALCONS!!

Vick wouldn’t have to run if the receivers would get open consistently. Falcons fans, have you ever noticed that all of the great NFL quarterbacks had a great wide receiver? Bradshaw- Lynn Swann, Montana- Jerry Rice, Troy Aikman- Michael Irvin, and Unitas- Raymond Berry. Who does Vick have? if Schaub got the start, he would have to endure the same problem.

This is unfortuntely AirTran’s fault. Their ad says “Let it fly, Mike let it Fly,” and he did. I’m scared to the see what that hockey player’s going to do. That ad says something about a penalty box. And you know something naughty has to happen to get put in there.

Living in a white supremacist society, I am not surprised, when people who benefit most from white supremacy are upset when someone, i.e. Michael Vick, who is not white, making large sums of money, and makes a human mistake is bashed so harshly for doing something that most if not all of us have done at some point in our lives. “Thug”, “Homie”, and “Who wrote his speech for him” are all comments that display the ignorance of those people who obviously have no understanding of those terms or how they originated. The real “THUGS” are in the White House, but no one seems to care or talk about issues in our society that really matter. Let Michael Vick go to another team that has a coaching staff and receivers and he’ll finally have his super bowl ring! Spread love and stop all of the hatred!

For 28 years of living, it’s been tough being a Falcons fan! The year 1998 was great, as it was Atlanta’s first SuperBowl experience. I think what upsets fans the most is the expectations year end and year out that totally get you so excited about the upcoming year, only to be disappointed by embarasssing athletic performances by professional athlethes making millions of dollars. Is there some kind of curse on Atlanta Sports? Why can’t we win? Vick played as hard as he could yesterday. He rushed for almost 200 yards (remember he’s a quarterback) which was the only offense we generated all day. The dropped passes have to stop, period. How about putting Schaub at quarterback and Vick at receiver! No sense of letting Schaub waste away as he’s clearly a special talent. Vick definitely can’t do any worse than the receivers are doing now. Let’s make the most of our talent, since we can’t seem to suck in picking up quality free agents and draft picks.

Typical fair-weather Falcon fan comments! Ya’ll make me sick. You want to throw the man off the team when he does 1 bad thing out of frustration. You have athletes out there beating their wives, doing drugs, pulling guns, and jumping into stands fighting with crowds. Vick only shot a bird to a small section of the crowd. He didn’t stand in the middle of the field and shoot a bird to a 360-degree. The man took matters into his own hands when his running back was stopped for short yardage. When his receivers dropped balls. When his offensive linemen weren’t blocking and protecting. The man ran for 166 yards and threw for almost 100 yards. Yesterday he was a 1-man show because the offense let him down. You give it all you’ve got then the crowd boo’s you afterwards. How would that make you feel? Ya’ll were kissing Vicks A$$ when they won against the Bengal’s & Steelers. Yes the quarter back is the leader but what can a man do when his offensive is letting him down. Defense did an OK job under their conditions with injuries. The problem isn’t Vick; it’s bigger than him. So for all the bloggers that’s bashing Vick. F**k you 2. Picture me shooting a bird at U smiling. And don’t jump back on the bandwagon when they start winning or make it to the playoffs.

Hey Wall St Bro, not trying to use the race card at all… I am definitely not a racist at all and would never support people that use race in discussing Vick. I meant Ebonics because people like Bill Cosby has used that term as well… The Fact is Mike does not have the mental capacity or knowledge to play Quarterback in the NFL and that is evident by the way he carries himself in interviews and the way he speaks; the guy has no class what so ever… He was an okay college Quarterback at best… It’s time to give Matt at shot!!!!

Michael Vick’s behavior was a disgrace to himself, his team, and to the city of Atlanta. I have been fan since Leeman Bennett and the super bowl song and will continue to do so. If you don’t like what is being done on the field, don’t go to the game. Either ya on or off the band wagon, choose. These same “fans” will go our in numbers buying up all his jersey and paying top dollar for tickets if they make it to the superbow. AB, if they don’t appreciate your boys here in the A, move them to another city. I will still come see you play. I too would like to see Matt play. In order for Vick to become a pocket passer, the Falcons would have to significantly improve their offensive line and the wide receivers. Until the “genius” GM Rich McKay decides to protect Mr. Blank’s investment on the field, the Falcons will continue to lose. Second of all, I don’t know of any Hall of Fame quarterback who would have success with the receivers dropping passes like White, Jenkins and Lelie have all year. Consider this, Schaub has never won a NFL game. Do you really think he will be so much better? Vick can’t do it all by himself. He’s smiling and laughing with folks at halftime. What should he be doing, Broncos fan? Vick reminds me of Barry Sanders, another great player who got no help from his teammates. They were content to watch him make all of the plays, just like the Falcons here. Can you fair weather fans wrap your minds around that concept? No help from his teammates, but yet he catches all the blame. Will you criticize Schaub the same way? I’m tired of the race card too. However, I feel that we as a country can’t escape race. We try but it plays a role in everything we do, even in the arena of sports. Sorry, sports fans!

I’ve been on the fence about Mike Vick until this week. Can he read defenses – no. Is he a great passer –no. Can he manage the running game – maybe. Can he run –yes. And the prev stuff can be learned.
But is he a Team Leader? NO. He sat on the bench looking dejected, not rallying the offense. Did he yell at Roddy White for dropping that pass with no one around him? NO.
Does Peyton Manning yell at his team, trying to get them fired up? Yes.
The only people Mike got mad at were the FANS! Priorities? - WRONG!
This is what I think destroys MV7 as a QB, the lack of leadership skills. And it cannot be taught. If he doesn’t have it by now, MV7 never will…
The there was Arthur Blank on the sideline consoling Mike Vick, patting him on the knee. Just what he DOESN’T need. And this is my last point.
MR. BLANK, GET OFF THE SIDELINE!! You are keeping the team from gelling. Your presence on the sideline is a distraction, keeping the players and coaches from doing what needs to be done. Has anyone ever been in a meeting, and the ‘big boss’ shows up? Everyone else immediately goes into CYA or brown-nose mode. NObody will jump up and take a risk and look crazy, because it might be the only impression the ‘big boss’ gets, and might destroy their career. So everyone sits tight and plays it safe.
Same for the Falcons, everybody sits on the sideline and thinks ‘I played my role well enough not to get fired today’. And they don’t get fired up on the sideline, yell and curse (maybe) and jump around and swing things (god forbid you hit the boss by accident), so the sideline looks like a morgue or a corporate board meeting.
*Mr. Blank, your presence is really Mike Vicks last excuse for why he and the team are not playing well. * Get off the sideline and let them either gel and pull it together, or not, but at least let them take their best shot.

Atlanta will never win a championship with Vick at QB. I’d either trade the guy or put him at receiver where he belongs. Schuab is much better passer and the team would be better with Vick at receiver. I’d trade him though because he’s too expensive to be so overrated.

Until the concepts of TEAM and GAMEPLAN replace the current crap of SHARE THE LOVE and I OWN THE TEAM AND SURE LOOK GOOD IN MY NEW SUIT we’re all in for MORA the same. This team lacks leadership at ALL levels and until it is found will suffer. Since you guys dont have any answers, listen up. You’ve got two decent QB’s with various skills. (similar to the Steelers of past seasons) Why not “Randall EL” the Vickmeister, and spread the field. This would completely disrupt any defensive scheme with the spy being taken out. You can throw to him, reverse to him, and even line him up at QB to do whatever. If he can run and throw, you gotta give him a chance to catch. Can’t be any worse that than anything Knapp’s come up with. We’ve got weapons, we just cant pull the trigger or in the case of our receivers, we are just scared of the bang!

Seems to me after watching the game that it has to be Michaels fault that those receivers dropped all those passes. And just how many passes were dropped during the game. That HAD to be Michael’s fault, I mean, he only hit them in their hands. What were we thinking to expect anyone to catch passes that hit them in the hands. And blown coverage on defense, that must have been Michael’s fault too, right. He does play both sides of the ball, right. And Morton Anderson missing a chip shot (for him), that must have been Michael’s fault too. Maybe I don’t know very much about football. I always thought there were ELEVEN men on the field, NOT ONE….

Dr Doomed, what the heck does that have to do with the game. I bet your parents were brother and sister. The problem is that we try to make Gods out of sports celebrities and entertainers. Mike is just like everyone else in this world. And who on this blog can say they have never become frustrated and flipped someone the bird. As for his performance in this and any other game. Seems to me he gives 100 percent every game, even when the other players give up he continues to play his heart out. As for his pay he deserves his pay and a few of his teammates pay too, heck he’s doing his job and theirs too. I really feel sorry for a man that plays like a superstar, but has teammates who play like my sons little league team. With the exception of a few others.

Michael Vick has lost his “touch” - he isn’t as good as the media makes him out to be. Michael and other players are in the spotlight - they knew what they would be up against BEFORE they signed on - yet they signed on and ask as if they should receive zero negative comments. Oh and here’s another thing - SIGN AUTOGRAPHS - especially for the young ones who see you as their mentors (I got this from the security folk who protect you). No one is above no autographs.

“To all Falcons fans: I wish I didn’t have anything to apologize for. But my actions were caught on film, so I must. Please know that I appreciate your support. I am fully aware that if I played for the Braves or Hawks there probably wouldn’t even be anyone in the stands for me to give the finger to. I see the fans as part of the team. Honestly, I do. In fact, I regularly give the finger to my receivers. But at least they deserve it. I hope you will understand that my actions came out of frustration. I have a deep burning inside me that sometimes causes me to explode in anger. This deep burning is often accompanied by itching. Please stick by me and this team as we try to get through this. I realize this is my sixth year in the league, but I remain one of the most dynamic players in the game — one always on the verge of breaking out — and I can promise you that I will stay as such for many years into the future until I am in my mid-30s and have finally been converted into a third-down back and emergency quarterback. Then, when I am a role player, getting flipped off by me won’t seem like such a big deal.

Vick lacks the mental capacity to be a quarterback in the NFL? Has he been given the tools to be truly successful? No way. He’s been saddled with wide receivers who can’t get open and can’t catch. Is his footwork perfect? No, but that may have something to do with being under constant pressure from a porous offensive line. He opts to run many times because he clearly doesn’t have any faith in his wide receivers. Why should he? We all should see by now why he runs the ball so much. He feels that he has to do everything himself. Blank will probably make changes to the coaching staff. But he really needs to invest free agency dollars and draft picks in Calvin Johnson and offensive linemen. Going bargain bin shopping for blockers is clearly not working, Rich McKay!! Hey Falcons fans, when’s the last time you saw a Falcons offensive lineman in the Pro Bowl? Great drafting, Richie boy! Two wide receivers that can’t get open and can’t catch! You really know how to pick ‘em. I miss Terrence Mathis!

I am no “fair-weather” Falcons fan; not really a Falcons fan at all. Nor am I a Vick-hater or Vick-basher. However, I do think that Mike Vick is the most incredible athlete I have ever seen. His strength, speed and ability to move while under pressure (which is all too often) are unmatched in the NFL. I have always doubted though that he is or ever will be an NFL quarterback. We can, like Jimmy Mora, make all the excuses in the world for his continuing terrible performances as a passer and we will still lose. The truth is that Mike is only 5’11” tall and a few pounds short of 2 bucks. I wish, for the sake of the city of Atlanta and the Falcons fans and even more for Mike Vick that he could get a fresh start somewhere else in the league. I doubt that any other owner would take that incredulous salary (thank you very much Mr. Blank) but maybe if the Falcons could help absorb part of it there may be a taker. Oh, by the way…. does anyone know where the Falcons can find a pass receiver who CAN CATCH A PASS? Vick is not a great passer but he might be at least average if one of his crew would catch something in his hands!

The fact of the matter is that most, if not all, of the people posting an opinion on this blog have never played professional sports. Accordingly, no one knows what it feels like to play your heart out and then get booed as you walk off the field. I am not excusing Vick for the gesture, but I am quite certain I would be tempted to do the same thing. Heck, most of the bloggers here probably shot a bird to a fellow motorist on their way into work. Bottomn line: Until you have walked in his cleats, you have no room to talk.

If he was selfish he would ask to be traded.

Although he should control his emotions - Vick is not the problem. The offensive line is poor at best and the offensive play calling is the pits. We have real good running backs and Dunn has to jump thru legs, it is amazing that he can get what he gets. When the quaterback out rushes the running backs game after game it is obvious. The coaching staff needs to see these limitations and fix these problems - and Roddy White needs a new home.

Being upset about the way the game went has nothing to do with how you present yourself in public. Being in the spotlight, all “superstars”, “athletes”, or “moguls” have a million eyes on them and even more little people that want to be like them. You chose to take that position, so you have to respect all those around you. Why act the way you do not want your children to act. Why act the way you would highly disapprove of if your child’s teacher behaved the same way? We are grown, so we need to understand and realize there is a time and place for everything, and when everyone is watching you, act accordingly and respectfully!!!

Blank is the major problem. He needs to stop standing on the side lines. He needs to let the Coach’s coach. Mora dares not stand up to Vick and scream at him for making a mistake, Mora values his job and yes Vick allows himself to be a Coach killer because Blank takes care of his baby Vick. Vick is a very tallented player, just not at quarter back. He needs to be a running back. Vick was low class flipping off the fans but Blank has allowed this type of behavior from Vick by making him the center of the game.

He should be fined, but not above NFL standards for that type of behavior. I believe it’s time for Mr. Blank to shake up the organization anyway from the coach to the quarterback. Face it, Vick has not lived up to his potential and the team has not done well under his leadership. He’s way too overrated right now for what he is accomplishing. It’s time to replace Mora also. They’ve had long enough to turn this team around. It’s not going to happen!

I don’t care how talented Mike Vick is, or how many yards he had rushing. A quarterback leads his team, and the Falcons are going nowhere. Acting like an ill-mannered teenager by flippinf off fans just proves my point. Bench him for the rest of the season, and let’s Mora and Schaub play football rather than Vick ball.

You can not question Mike Vick’s effort. He laid it on the line Sunday going all out. As a season ticket holder and at the game Sunday, it is more visible live than on TV. He got leveled on the Roddy White drop.
Given that, I don’t think the Falcons are better than year in - year out 8-8 given this coaching staff, and cast of characters.
Frank and Jesse James ( Abraham and Hartwell )have hamstrung this team for the next few years under the cap. Blank bought damaged goods.
Brees looked right at Rossum at the line, waved at him, and then threw it at him.

Plus he was standing up for his team mates……they might have said something to the recievers…….like…. “you suck or something”……..now that would NOT have been warranted, and maybe something about the coaches as well…..
I think Mike should be able to flip us all off………gosh with the wonderful way we win……..and the pride he has in himself and the community………
We should be able to take a “FU*K OFF”, every now and again……..
Thank you Arthur Blank……..thank you for raising the ticket prices……..gee I am glad I cleaned the garage yeasterday…….afer three years as a ticket holder, this year I passed……..

I am so tired of folks performing and/or saying despicable acts and/or comments, and then turning around and apologizing. Why? You meant exactly what you said or did. That is who you are.Frustrated or otherwise Mike Vick has no class. (Look at his brother) Fruit from the same tree.
As for the Falcon prepared apology that was issued. Give me a break. He could never string together that many sentences. Jose, you continue to show your ignorance. You say that you are racist, yet you say “Michael Vick does not have the intelligence or mental capacity to play quarterback in the NFL”. If that’s not a racist statement, what is? This guy has one of the highest winner percentages of any active QB in the league. As for the way he carries himself, I agree he’s not the most polished player in the league, but have you taken a look at Chad Johnson or Edgerrin James? There’s a lot of other players that could use some polishing. I don’t know you and have never met you, but are you sure there aren’t people who don’t agree with the way you speak? Think about it.

Matt Schaub career stats = 66/134 49.3%comp. rate, 5 TD’s, 4 INT’s, 68.8 passer rating. Started two games, lost both. Typical Falcons fans, look for the back-up, then complain when they’re not winning. Good thing for you is that there will always be a back-up ready to take the starter’s place. Prediction for the game versus the Cowboys (12/16). There will be 30,000 Falcons fans and 41,149 Cowboys fans. The Cowboy bandwagon is bigger than the Falcons.

Vick should not have done what he did but he is still young and I hope he learneed from this. You have to admit he has had a rough week, being called a coach killer by his coach’s father- now being discussed all over the airways, the frustration on where this team is and then the WR’s dropping balls that frankly look like pee wee league. The CB’s looking like the keystone cops on the last play before the half. Maybe they were yelling Coach killer to him - you don’t know. I am not saying it is right, but I am 39 yrs old and work in corporate America and I can say for a fact that if I were berated verbaly that I would respond with words not used for the kitchen table. He has to remember there are kids at the games also, but so do the fans no matter who they are pulling for. Adam - you want Schaub to play so bad, who is going to catch the passes? Can he escape the Gauntlet? I know, you sneaky guy, you are a Vick supporter and want Schaub killed back there so people can’t ask for a switch. - Very Sneaky!!!

Mr. Blank has worked so hard to bring the game to the people of Atlanta….for what?
Mike Vick is an exceptional athlete but is still a human being. Too many lose sight of that little fact.
Nonetheless, kids look up to the behavior of professional athletes, so regardless of his contrite apologies, the hammer needs to be brought down hard for that little snap in judgment. Otherwise we will have kids thinking its OK to “flick off” anybody they please and just claim that the situation got the best of them!
It’s called CONTROL. It is needed on the field, off the field as well.
And yes, I agree that some changes are warranted, especially in the offensive line and receivers. As for Mora…I really don’t know. Maybe we will score big in the draft this year.
As for safety issues at the dome, that is not totally the concern of the Falcons organization, is it? What about the City of Atlanta and the APD?

Vick is no leader, so no one follows. Vick is no QB. He may be the best athlete in the NFL, but is no QB. Develop an offense where he gets the ball in the open field and he’s a Hall of Famer.
Mr. Blank, I refuse to send any of my hard earned dollars to this hyprocracy. In fact, where’s Nielson? Hey Nielson, my TV is NOT even tuned to the Falcons. Okay people, let’s not get blinded by the “smoke screen” (Vick gesture). The issue of 5-6 is not Vick, it’s the consistent decline of the entire organization. Yes, Vick is a part of the problem but not the source of our losses. The issues are: What is our offensive strategy to score more points? We are still in it, so we still have a season to salvage. Along with that is our coaching, oline, and receiving corps. At this point, Vick is the least of our problems. Start with Roddy, and work your way up to Mckay.
I think it’s understood that Vick-haters will hate upon his success and failures. This will unfortunately transend on other future QBs in the Falcon organization, that look like him. The confederate pride still rears it’s ugly head.

I worked in cleats for four years playing SEC football and you learn to control your mannerism, which Vick Brothers have a problem. Michael’s actions were deplorable. Yes, it was bad day, yes it was stressful etc. etc. HOWEVER; using profanity (verbal or gestures) is a sign of lack of control and frankly a lack of vocabulary/education. Having ignored the rude/out of place fans would have spoken volumns to the crowd and TV audience as to Mike’s character and self-control. I firmly believe that what comes out of a man/woman in times of stress is an indicator of that person’s true soul/character. People in a position of influence (and many a young athlete looks up to Mike Vick) has an even greater responsibility to behave in an exemplary manner. Mike needs to be punished and held accountable for his actions.

You guys kill me with this professional crap. It’s not like this “youb-young” man explodes all the time. Most of the time you get very little emotion from Vick up or down. Jake Plummer did the same thing but it can’t compare with the venom vick is receiving. Everyone has a breaking point no matter what your position is and unfortunately Vick’s was caught on tape. I guarantee you somebody called him Coach Killer, and based on all that has happened this past week, you would have to be on morphine to let that no bother you. What is funny is that if Vick is no longer here, the first thing the organization will do is get an offensive line and better receivers then swear it was all Vicks fault why this team struggled.

Blank is trying to be a leather face Jerry Jones. He needs to stay in the booth and be more heard than seen. I think at this point, and with all that speed, they need to shorten the routes which should better their chances to make plays and have more control of the game. I can save them and take them to the playoffs. I need 1.8 million up front, a 4+ million dollar property in the ATL, and 1 million in stock options from Home Depot. You know I didn’t even mention the defense. I have a solution for that too. Show me the money!!!!!!!!
It is getting really tough to watch these guys. I was complaining about the plays that take to long to develop for most of the game yesterday along with the stupid play calling. With Vick being paid greatly by Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons Organization, he should be more of a quarterback that a crybaby. He should not blame the fans for booing the team and should of not disrespected the fans. If he would throw the ball more to the recievers, they would care more to catch it then run for 20 plays without having a pass thrown to them. Sure he is great when he scrambles but as a quarterback he needs to support his recieving corps.

Judging by the anger in some of the blogs, I don’t think it’s too many saints(no pun intended) in Atlanta. If anything, the people in Atlanta should be glad this man had the heart to try to put this game on his shoulders because of our sorry wide receivers. It seems to me that the word “thug” is becoming the politically correct way of saying the n word. Please don’t use this incident to release some underlying hatred for people that don’t look or act like you.

Okay, here it is in a nutshell. Vick sucks!!! Get rid of him, or make him a running back after you teach him how to hold the ball. As for the receivers, they be open, but after Vick hold the ball for as long as he does they are covered. He holds the ball entirely to long. Another that need to be traded is that wanna be Dione Sanders DeAngelo Hall. He is a disgrace to Dione’s #21.

Comments by Msteven says that Michael Vick is only human and comments by Big Dave reminds us that it is in his genes since he is related to Marcus Vick. But Hayden might be more on point - treat him the same as Michael Richards. Perhaps this should be a career ender for Michael Vick - or at his career in Atlanta. Think of all the ads and billboards around the City of Atlanta. They would have to be changed to show Vick give the “Bird” to the fans here in Atlanta. Perhaps it is a new way to fly (Air Tran ads). To say that he is “sorry” is not enough. If Al Sharpton can’t accept an apology from Richards, why should the fans in Atlanta accept anything one from Vick. I once heard a wise statement - a drunk tongue speaks a sober mind. Both Richards and Vick have recently showed us what they really think, whether drunk or not - their sober minds have been displayed. We, as citizens of this world, should no longer tolerate this type of behavior from people that are put before us both in the entertainment world and the athletic arenas. It is time that someone stood and said, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!”

As a falcon fan, I wish we could hear similar from our head coach instead of all the Vick smooching!! I urge you to go to espn.com and review the coaching ratings. Parcells is 2nd at 94% approval rating. Even Dennis Green at 2-9 ranks higher than Mora.(a 19% approval rating higher than only Tom Coughlin) Need more?? Jeff Fischer gets a 92% for a 4-7 record. Why? Because he called out that dumb lineman that kicked the guy in the head. This team desperately needs discipline.

A truly classless gesture by an extremely talented athlete. However, when has anybody EVER reported about Michael’s work ethics? Or the sacrifices he makes for others? Michael’s behaviors suggest that football practices, and the games themselves, are simply necessary interuptions about his main desire to the glorify Michael. He’d rather be getting down, partying, and generally living the high life. Until he shows a bit of humility and truly give a damn about anybody else besides himself, the Atlanta Falcons will be doomed to be a very overpriced 2nd attraction in a town that deserves much better.

The problem is not with Vick, Mora, or the receivers but with all three. First, Vick holds the ball too long and tries to always make plays happen, but when the pressure is on he cannot depend on a 20 yrd run. Three steps back and pass that worked well for elway, montana, tom brady, etc. Mora is next, his team is not playing fundamental football. They have many careless mistakes and look SLOPPY-this is the coach’s responsibility. Lastly, the receivers just suck. So what is the resolution, there is none. Blank made a poor investment (just like the current Home Depot CEO)and the team will not win big for another five years.

I guess we know now what Arthur meant when he said his team would have class and character. He meant no class and no character.
Wonder what he told his kids about Mike’s “finger pointing”.
Mora said Mike’s apology was “heartfelt”. I think he probably meant “walletfelt”.
Can’t wait to watch all the fallout from this one.

Hey Jose, I must apologize. Sorry “Cool Hand Luke” is the extremely racist one. In addition, all those that think Michael Vicks’ deplorable act is the same as Michael Richards’ racist outburst are even more ignorant than “CHL”.

So, Vick flipped off the crowd because some fan was taunting his teammates. Can we say “wahhhhhhhhhh!” Pay me 10 million a year and you can sky write insults directed directly at me. As for greg Knap’s play calling, y’all have a hshort memory. Atlanta won the first couple games with a crushing running attack, and Vick complained about being a one-dimensional QB. Kanp instituted changes so Vick could throw more (more glory) and viola, his weaknesses as a passer have come to light. Ignoring all of the alleged racism, who’s at fault, and so on, Vick’s problems are that (1) he’s just not that smart of an individual, and (2) he’s so freaking athletic that I don’t think he’ll ever develop the discipline to stand and take the hit to deliver a pass… not when he can tuck the ball and run. The greatest QB’s in the game were not the fastest or most athletic or even the most electrifying, but that hed great vision on the field, checked all their receivers, read the defense, and then made the right decision even with defensive players hanging all over them. 6 years for Vick. Wonder who we could get in trade?

You passed on Lovie Smith for your head coaching position without even giving him a second interview?
Hmmmm….

What Vick did and what Michael Richard’s did are two different things. One was a very racial tirade and the other was the “universal” sign of disapproval. Who cares about Al Sharpton, he is nobody to try to apologize too. This cat was caught on tape organizing a drug deal in NY. As far as Michael Richards, I have always liked him as an actor but I will just say he lost it. Sometimes in anger you say the most hateful thing that you know of to hurt a person. He is not that important anyway. As far as Vick goes, the stupidity goes bith ways. Maybe he was stupid to do what he did but what about the drunken people harrasing him? We are talking about a 26 year old! What do you want? Blood?

I am tripping as I continue to read this blog. It is amazing that Mike Vock giving someone the finger has come to this. I agree with the blogger above, he who is without cast the first stone. Most of you want Schaub to start, for what reason. It would be worse. He still would not have anyone to throw to, or anyone blocking from him. Only in the south. The personal attack on Mike and even his family is so unnecesarry but what more can you expect from the South.

No, Vick should not get more than the standard fine from the NFL. His frustration is with the fact he can’t score a TD. The play calling is AWFUL!!!! Twice we had it on the Saints 7 Yard Line and had to settle for FGs instead of TDs……No big Back to bull it in!!! Did anyone else notice that Vick fumbled again on the first series of downs???? Luckily the Falcons recovered.

Everyone wants to villify Michael Richards for an on-the-job emotional outburst.
Who is holding those two young “gentlemen” in the crowd accountable for being extremely rude and obnoxious by loudly heckling a performer while on stage, ruining the performance who paid their hard-earned money to hear that performer, and using racial slurs themselves in a 2-against-1 position?
Now, those two A-American ( I am one, myself. ) disrupters demand an apology, with no apology from themselves to their fellow audience members (of ALL races) whose show enjoyment of the show they disrupted, to say nothing of apologizing for being rude to Mr. Richards? More importantly, they also demand they get PAID for their hurt feelings? Hmmmmm……
Did those poor innocent fellows make the honest mistake of thinking they were merely at a local movie theater and were just yelling at a movie screen, or were they merely CELEBRATING THEIR DIVERSITY with the “Evil” Michael Richards began keeping them down?
Recognize.

Vick is exciting to watch, and at the QB position, he has the opportunity to “RUN” when he wants to, but why the big hype??? It puts so much pressure on him and takes away from his responsibilities as a passing QB….. Many thinks he is the greatest athlete the NFL has ever seen…..What about Emmitt Smith or Walter Peyton or Gayle Sayers or Eric Dickerson or Barry Sanders or O.J. Simpson or Franco Harris or Tony Dorsett or Jim Brown or Marcus Allen…..what about the new kid LaDainian Tomlinson????

These people will not be happy until they are back to being the not thought about, no segment on any sports show, half-empty Dome attending, who cares about the Falcons, are they in Atlanta?, no reason to care unless a good team comes to town, dreadful team they want to be. When Vick does leave, taking half the season ticket holders with him, maybe they’ll be happy……until the owner decides to move the team to a better market that is…then they’ll ignorantly wonder why.

I’ve been a Falcons fan all my life, and was so pumped when Vick joined this team. I think what bothers me the most, beyond the simple lack of class, was the gesture was at fans. I can understand his frustration at losing 4 in a row, but to flick off fans, even idiot ones, is ridiculous. The fans support his salary, and I took it as an insult to me, even though I’m not “hating” on him. I think he makes a lot of dumb decisions, and his athleticism gets ahead of his brain sometimes. I want him to be our quarterback but if he can’t put things together and keep it consistent, we need to move on. Not a race thing, just a winning thing. I, like many other Falcons fans, have sat by year after year and had a season end way before the end of the year, and I’m tired of it. The money this team spends should be getting us further than it is. It’s not just Vick, but he needs to step up and be a leader, and not let moronic fans get in his head. He gave them exactly what they wanted.

Vick should not be fined for flipping the bird, his play and the play of the whole team was way more obscene than a middle finger. Vick does need to go, and so does pretty boy Mora and his offensive coordinator..(which the title fits him well, his calls are very offensive to the fans). Call me a fair weathered fan if you like, but I find it hard to root for a guy that makes as many mistakes and poor decisions as Vick. I know Atlanta does not have a great recievers….but hey neither did New England when they made their run. New England does something I thought Blank had promised he would do…they go out and find intelligient players with class….I say get us a real team that is a legit contender… I would rather see Superbowl Highlights any day rather than Vick highlights….oh and for the ones that compare Atlanta to the Steelers…yes Pitt is having a rough season… but if you remember the Falcons sucked last year too… I know they did go to the NFL Championship game a couple of years ago. But they made it that year because the NFC was horrible. Look at the Falcons record with VIck… it is ok….but against quality opponents it is less than desirable…but this year they cant even beat the teams that are the bottom of the barrel. Time for a change….I am done with going to the games until they start winning.

look I do not care whose fault it is. what I want to know is why can’t vick throw a slant pass or a quick post when the other team is blitzing. why can’t the receiver see the blitz and adjust his pattern the way he is supposed to. What I see is a Quarterback who does not know what he is doing or a coaching staff that is clueless. If vick is not allowed to change the play, then why isn’t he complaining. Instead he says he hopes the coaching staff does not leave. Either way changes have to be made. What upsets me is no one in the media is asking questions about the offense. about the lack of a game plan or strategy. No one is asking critical questions. I would like some answers.

Please don’t speak for the City when addressing Vick’s actions. I was 20 rows above where the “heckler.” If I could have gotten to him from the Club Level, I would have. Did Vick need to do that? No. But he did. And from where I was standing he was applauded for actually giving it back to those horrible (enter the appropriate expletive here) fans. I am as much a member of this “city” and he didn’t embarass me. You, along with all your fellow “fans” need to get off your high horse, move on, and decide whether you are going to be a fan or not. All of the blame does not fall on Mike Vick. He made a mistake yesterday and as far as I am concerned it is over. No one is perfect. No Vick is no Peyton Manning but he does bring things to the table that Peyton doesn’t. If you look at the Colts they have alwasy surrounded Peyton with good receivers and a good offensive line. The falcons will never go far as long as your tight end is your leading receiver. I believe a lot of the blame goes to the front office and coaching staff. If you want Vick to become a better passer, then you have to get him good receivers. On the other hand these are professionals and the other receivers have to step up and play ball and be aggressive. I think Mr. Blank needs to take a hard look right now at this team and where it is going. Also the falcons have to come out with more determination and desire. Right now they are playing like they don’t even want to win and I know with most coaches that is unacceptable.

the problem with vick is he has been told all along that he is a nfl qb. as you should now see is that he is a good college option type qb. quick feet only is not good enough in this league. yes the o-line is suspect and the w/r’s are questionable at best let’s remember that ther is more than one option on each play. maybe someone else had more room on some of those passes that were dropped. maybe we should play one of the other q/b’s and either is fine with me( before the race card gets thrown at me) and put vick at r/b.

First off I am so sick of bandwagon fans blaming one person for the team losing. He can not throw the ball, catch it and run into the end zone. The fans were wrong for booing and saying obscene things to him when he was walking into the tunnel. I was there and saw it, he was fine until someone kept bad mouthing him. Yes he was wrong for giving the finger but people do it everyday in front of kids and adults. He is human and allowed to make mistakes. Lets just move on from this and the real fans keep supporting the team.

Hey Roddy, stop worrying about the clubs and your cars and spend some extra time at the complex catching passes. Some posters on this issue are riduculous. Okay, Vick was wrong to make the gesture that he did. But, the fans were just as wrong. Yes he makes a lot of money…and fans pay for the tickets which pay his salary. I have a question though…How many of you would tolerate abuse (either verbal or physical) from someone just because they pay your salary? I’m sure that many of you have made worst gestures or comments in front of your own children without a second thought. Last year K Collins was booed by the entire stadium, didn’t do anything but motivate him to play better. Mike could learn something from that!

I just read Michael Vick “best of all time” in the same sentence. I think I wet myself.
He is not great, nor is he even that good. He is likely the greatest athlete to play the game of football. And he is a threat when he rolls out. Both a threat to run for 100 yards oand a threat to turn the ball over by not tucking it away. Terrible quarterback. Great runner. Great arm. What a waste. Schaub would serve the purpose much better. At least he knows how to read a defense. Trade Vick for some recievers that know how to catch with their hands and you might be OK.
The finger episode? He should sit this week out as a gesture to the community, the NFL, and most importantly his teamates that he claims to lead. Whether by his choice or by Mora’s. It isn’t like they can’t win without him…They can’t win with him. No comparison to M. Richards. He is a blatant idiot, while Vick did something idiotic. Completely different.
Mora is not the problem, nor is his offensive play caller. Execution is the problem. But, like Vick, everyone wants to make excuses.
Mr Blank did not get where he is with substandard production, this is true. Unfortunately I think he believes his own hype about Michael Vick. The most famous non-producing quarterback in history. What is his record again? How many times has he hurt himself? How many fumbles? Great rushing yardage, though. Clearly that helps.
His bust in the Hall of Fame will say: ” He sure could run for 16 games per year. “
Oh well, as we say in Chicago…Maybe next year.
