Your take on price increases
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
What do you think about the Braves’ increasing ticket prices (read the story here) despite finishing with a losing record last season? Do you think it’s a given that prices for pro sports teams will rise most years, even incrementally?

If ticket prices are raised so should the payroll.

If the Braves had decent ownership that would spend and allow us to compete with the other clubs, then I wouldn’t mind the ticket price increase as much. Arthur Blank got away with raising ticket prices because he has spent on free agents, and has put the players we need on the field to win. Unfortunately for the Falcons, those acquisitions just haven’t preformed. The Falcons will never win with Vick at QB. As for the Braves, we need ownership to spend on a bullpen for us to be able to compete.

Increase in ticket price for losing team that refuses to sign anymore big name free agents, let alone resign their own talented stars because of “salary cap restrictions.” Doubt that I will go to any games next year. And darn sure doubt that I will watch the crappy broadcasts on FOX that “feature” Rathburn and his trusty stooge Torborg .

Take your Vick-hating someone else, Andy the moron.
As for ticket prices being raised, Im not surprised. Attendance went UP even though we lost. Looks like we just wanted to see something new, even if it was losing.

Hey Jay,
The Falcons would be winning with Schaub at QB. Vick stinks.

If you are going to raise the price, you need to put a better product on the field. You need to go back to being involved in the acquisition of top free agents. We need an owner and not a conglomerate run our team.

If anything, the GM should be taking a pay cut. Yeah, they have won all those pennants, and what great consolation (Like kissing a sister). Teams with high expectations won’t settle for a mere divisional pennant. Now to increase prices after deleting all the former all stars from the roster, is truly disrespectful to the fans supporting the braves. As for me, in my house I will serve the lord’s winning organizations.

The Braves can do what they wish, its unimportant. Inside Atlanta, we support the Falcons, only!!!

Relax, it’s a couple of dollars a game—Braves tickets are still one of the best values in sports. The Braves product is a great one almost every year, it’s ashame more people in Atlanta don’t realize it. What’s better than a few beers, a nice night, and a solid team on the field? Go Braves.

I was no marketing major in school but let me get this straight: Time Warner can’t fill the seats during seasons in which they make it to the playoffs. Now in a new marketing ploy they are not going to raise the payroll so that we might actually compete; but instead they are going to raise the prices of tickets to add to the already ridiculous price of food and drinks the year after we don’t make the playoffs after 14 straight years. Hmmmmmmmm interesting concept. Underpeform, raise prices, screw the fans even more, BRILLIANT!! We must’ve had a team of monkeys working around the clock on that one!!

I’m on of the few Atlantans that would much prefer to watch pro sports over college sports. Baseball is my #1 sport, so I don’t mind paying a little extra to go to games. I really do wish the Braves had 1 owner instead of a numberous owners. I think Bob Rathbun does a very good announcing job with both the Braves and Hawks, he does get excited at times, unlike some other Atlanta announcers. Worst Atlanta announcer is Chip Carey by far.

Horrible call by Dgrvly. Rathburn knows about half as much about baseball than each annoucer on the TBS crew. Dgrvly seems to think that the volume of someone’s voice is more important than knowledge of the game. Besides, I never want to confuse watching a Braves game with watching a Hawks games. I have Rathburn’s voice burned into my head from watching the Hawks lose by 30 points each game for the last 10 years.
As for ticket prices, suck it up everyone. It’s only a few dollars.

Attendance was up? Every time I turned on the T.V I saw a half empty stadium. Besides, the ushers at Turner Field as like prison guards. They will not let you sit in empty seats regardless if nonbody is coming. I remember when I paid $60.00 for Game #2 of the 1995 World Series. I thought that high, but it was the World Series.
I would rather spend my money on a nice dinner and maybe catch the game on the T.V in the bar. I will still have money left over and not feel violated by watching Chipper stink it up.

If they raise prices they need to raise the amount they are spending on the team period. It’s ridiculous that they dropped payroll then stuck it at 80 million and now refuse to move on that number then they decide to charge us more for tickets. I have no plans to attend any games this year. If more of us do that and demand a better product then maybe they will eventually raise payroll again.

How in the @#$% can the Braves raise tickets prices and not raise the talent that we see year after year. When was the last time the Braves went out and got a BIG name free agent? If things does not change/better you will see a BIG decline in attendance and TV revenue. Now go out and seek some much needed help and STOP bring in over the hill has been players…

Andy, what has Schaub done? The answer. Nothing! You’re the typical fan that thinks when a football team is going bad the backup quarterback is always better. Tisk, tisk. You’re so predictable. Tha Falcons have many problems. Leave your address. I’ll send you a quarter so you can buy a clue.
As for the Braves raising ticket prices. I with the crowd that demands a raise in PAYROLL before I attend another game.

Isn’t raising prices on the heels of a down year a foolish move?
The laws of supply and demmand say that the Braves will sell even LESS tickets than they did last year

The Braves management team need to come down off their high-horse. You rarely, if ever, sell out the smaller stadium and you are going to raise prices. I don’t have a MBA from Havard but that doesn’t make good financial sense to me. More fans equal more parking fees, equal more concessions, equal more…you get the picture? We, the fans, can do without you and I encourage other fans to stay away; I know I will. There’s more to do in Atlanta than sit in an over-priced seat and watch a below average product. Where’s Ted Turner when you need him?

Look at it this way. Minor league baseball is not that far away and you don’t have to take out a second mortgage to take your family to more than one game a year. How long will we fans continue to subsidize such ridiculous salaries? Unfortunately, most of us will probably do it forever.

Sad to say that it’s no longer a surprise that ATL is just not a sophisticated sports market. The poll itself speaks to that. Braves ticket prices are a bargain.
Fairly new stadium, team has one 14 out of 15 divisional championships. The blog world wants to blame low attendance on everything except ourselves.
Braves (and Falcon) tickets are cheap by comparison. Blogging about only one WS championship and greedy players/owners is an excuse. Transient market? Who cares? When I’ve been away I still go to see pro sports.
Most of the complainers don’t buy tickets anyway. When it comes excitement, loyalty etc. Atlanta is a cow town. Other teams sell out win or lose and pro sports are no longer new to the city.
You might have a fight over the Hawks and Thrashers but to trash what the Braves have done, from the trash heap to the top of their sport while fans really ignore them is stupid. The whole Glavine fight proves that. Who turns down millions more in salary to do the same job? That’s not greed and salaries are subsidized NOT by ticket sales but by other income sources.
In all pro sports the ticket prices here are below the median. Everyone complains about fans of other teams coming into Atlanta but here’s the question…why are there ALWAYS tickets available for them??
It’s not, repeat NOT a sports town. If you can’t support a winner you’re not a sports town.

Braves Raise Ticket Prices? Food and parking increases will follow. Have they done this because the Braves are such a great team in high demand, or perhaps to cover the $14 million to spoiled F* heads like Tom Glavine—-I still can’t forgive him for the S* he pulled during the strike! Eat Me Braves I wouldn’t my or my families time spending money on a bunch of spoiled pusses!!!!!!

It is utter Bull$#!+ Raise the prices without raising the spending limit on player salaries is gouging the fans. Although, I will say that they outpriced me on the tickets a long time ago. I only go when the tickets are given to me.

Wally Wonka,
What has Vick done this year? He has lead us to losses against the Browns, Lions, and Ravens in three straight games. The guy is good, but he will never lead us to a superbowl. Schuab deserves a shot. With playing time, I think he can lead us farther than Vick. He is a better throwing quarterback. How many more losses to the Lions do you want to see?

Matt Schaub has three career starts. What’s his record in those three career starts? 0 - 3. People think just because he passed for over 300 yards against NE, he is going to be the next Joe Montana. Michael Vick will NEVER be benched. Either get used to it or go root for the Panthers.

I consider my self a typical southern. When I pay for something…. I want something in return. So what am I going to get for my extra $1-$7? Is there going to be anything different in the ball park from last year? Are food, parking, and/or beer prices going to drop? Are they going to use that extra money to spend on players? The article mentioned that the increase is partially due to the improvements to the park made over the last three years. So why didn’t ticket prices increase during that time? The article also mentioned operating cost increases. If operating costs go up then find a way to cut costs in other areas LIKE MOST BUSINESS DO.
Frankly they should sell the big a$$ drum in the out field that no one can hear anyway instead of increasing ticket prices. I also have no interest in the kiddy land area that they created BECAUSE I HAVE NO KIDS. Why should I have to pay extra so a bunch of snot nosed kids who have no interest in baseball can play in the kiddy area during the game? FIRE THE CHEARLEADING SQUADE. That should save some money. Heck there are only about two to three good looking ones in the bunch anyway. These are just a few money saving tips that Mr. Schiller should have considered before he decided to increase prices.
After the $10 admission to the PP (and for those who don’t know what PP stands for you don’t live in Atlanta and should not be reading this blog) an extra $1-$7 will get a pretty young half naked lady to shake her rump in my face. What is the ball park going to do with my extra $1- $7??????
