It is Tech - Georgia Nuff said. Take your name game, branding B.S. and stick it where the sun don’t shine, AJC.

The reason this game doesn’t have a ctachy moniker is because the rivalry is bigger than just a football game. The schools square off in almost every sport and the rivalry is just as intense. Basketball, volleyball, baseball and even club sports. The rivalry runs deeper than just football and one game. A “catchy nickname” is too shallow to represent the significance of this rivalry.

To quote Lewis Grizzard, “It is our way of life versus their way of life.”

And to quote George P. Burdell, “To HELL with Georgia.”

I don’t think it has a name because it’s just not that big of a deal. The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is the highlight of UGA’s season; the Tech game is just a little afterthought that no one really cares about. It’s only important to Tech. Ted, you’re right on with the “Who Gives a Crap Bowl,” but both teams already have six wins, so I’m not sure I understand your second suggestion.

All you Techies don’t get to far ahead of yourselves. Yes, you guys are having a good season and will have a good shot at winning the ACC. I would say being 9-2 and ranked #19 makes you guys some kind of powerhouse. The fact is if you guys finish with 10 or more wins, it will be only the FOURTH time in school history that you have finished with 10 wins or more. UGA has done that the past four seasons alone. Yes, we have some problems we need to fix and it probably won’t be this year that they get fixed but don’t think that you guys are going to walk out of Athens with a win. I predict a close game as always and I would hate it for you guys if you came to Athens on your high horse and got beat by poor old Georgia. You guys will have a young team next year as well and will lose your QB and Calvin when he goes pro so next year around this time, you will probably be talking about the ‘06-‘07 season and wonder when the Bugs will ever have a 10 win season again.

Yeah Tech will drop a notch next year, But there is no reason UGA should be struggling this year. Look at the recruiting classes that have poured in. I expect with a week off, Georgia will play us very well, but come on, we’re having a good season, we’re gonna talk it up a bit. And I really hope that the team that lost to Vandy and Kentucky finds it’s way falling apart again 18 days from now, in the Grits Bowl/Blitz for the Grits.

“Tech vs UGA” says it all; we don’t need a catchy, moronic phrase to define the game. The AJC needs to focus on real news and real sports coverage; both of which are grossly lacking in its newspaper. Tech & UGA are both great institutions. The fans enjoy sports and the rivalry. Most of the derrogatory comments can be attributed to those who lack the intellect to gain admission to either institution. If you don’t have a diploma from Tech or UGA and you are too dumb to get one, you need to remain silent! “Tech vs UGA” belongs to the Alumni. I respect UGA grads and their University, I loathe the redneck tag-alongs who can’t spell “dog” and give UGA a bad name. Tech grads and UGA grads have class; it’s too bad that we can’t screen our fans !!! Oh, yeah … and while we’re at it, let’s come up with a catchy phrase to define the AJC. Last I checked both PUBLIC institutions receive funding from the state of Georgia. Neither school seems to discriminate which taxpayers those funds are derived from, so I say it’s open to all Georgians citizens in good standing.

I also happen to know of one (although I’m sure there are many more) very large Tek booster who did not attend the school, but would probably be given your seat at The Joke in a heartbeat if he wanted it.

And Tech fans, the whole “We are the CEOs and ou are the employees” garbage. That might have been true in the 70’s, but its not true now. So drop it. Since both original locations of THE VARSITY are in ATLANTA & ATHENS then maybe we need to make the greatest DRIVE-IN the the USA part of our BOWL? Name it the “Wuad-haf, Wuad-haf, Wuad-haf” BOWL and we play for a Chili-chesse-dog, onionrings, and a F.O. where the Winning team serves the Loosing team a VARSITY MEAL at their hometown location. “SERVING UP SOME CROW” is the title maybe? The trophy should be a giant peach pit. It should be made out of a really hard wood such as hickory or walnut and should be carved in such a fashion that it look identical to an actual peach pit…except, of course, it would be roughly forty times its size.

The Pit should NOT be mounted on a base. Rather, it should simply have a nice flat spot on the bottom such that it can be placed upon a presentation table or displayed in a trophy case.

…when a team is forced to relinquish The Pit, they have the option of adding a substance to it that mimics a bit of peach pulp. Nothing gross or anything that might damage the trophy should be used, mind you…kudos go for originality vs. being impish or stupid.

Atlanta is an artsy town… there are probably plenty of capable people who would be happy to carve this thing for posterity…(Your mark can be on the flat spot on the bottom)…volunteers???

BTW, I say, “Bravo, AJC!” Let’s face it… the “Good Ol’ Fashion Your Mama Wheres Combat Boots and My Daddy Can Kick Your Daddy’s Butt Bowl” doesn’t have much of a ring to it.
