Tiger skips Tour Championship
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Tiger Woods announced Friday he will not appear in the PGA Tour’s season-ending tournament at East Lake, depriving the event of the game’s biggest star.
He says he needs a break to “recharge my batteries” for the 2007 season after winning the last six tournaments he entered.
What do you think of his withdrawal, and the reasons given for it? If you were interested in going to watch the tournament, will you still do it? Does golf interest you only if Tiger Woods is in the field?

If he’s too damn good to play in any of the other tournaments in GA, maybe the Masters should stop inviting him.

What an era we live in! Muhammed Ali competed for his title every chance he got, never refused a bout. I love Tiger and am an huge fan, but he’s just gotta play. Especially at the end of the season, when “the tough get going!”

I agree JB. There are just people who no matter how much you give of yourself, still not enough. Tiger is married and if he feels like taking time off to enjoy want he has reaped…that should be fine. He has given us a wonderful season. People need to realize, that entertainment is still a job and at every job we need to take a break. So stop hating. Jealousy is an ugly thing guys!!
To Bushwacker and Golfbag, you only wish you were good enough to be on the same course as Tiger. The time you spend dogging him, you could be working on your game Goldbag…and Bushwacker…it sounds like your trailer is floating away….better go catch it.

He’s never won at East Lake. He doesn’t want to play in a tourney that he’s never won and can’t extend his streak. If it was that tourney in Orlando that he’s won like 6 times in a row he’d be in Atlanta instead of on his yacht.
So remember, Tigger has never won where Bobby Jones grew up and learned how to play.

He aint gotta do jack! He aint here to entertain you. He’s done for the year plain and simple. Get over it. He has nothing to prove anymore. A matter fact, if he quit today, it will take at least another 10 more years from now for “anyone” to even come close. Accept it, love him or hate him he’s the best.
Let me help you out on this, as far as I am concern Bobby Hull is still better than Wayne Gretzsky. Does this help?

Yeah yeah yeah. “Don’t play the race card”. “I don’t care what color he is”.
Heard all of this before. You can say it all you want, but it is what it is; ACCEPTANCE! You simple cannot accept that this man is so damn good. And I mean unbelievable GOOD!!!

I remeber when the Doral Open total purse was $100,000 - 1st place was $40,000. Back then players played from the heart. $$$$ changes everything. It sure would have been classier to make his anouncement a few weeks ago. I am still going to see “The Best” on Bobby Jones’ course.
As it was announced in 2004 - “In addition to being known as the home course of Bobby Jones, East Lake Golf Club will now also be known as home to THE TOUR Championship,” said Ray Robinson, president of the East Lake Golf Club and chairman of the board of the East Lake Community Foundation. “The union is ideal because the heart of the PGA TOUR is about giving back and the soul of East Lake is about helping families succeed.”

Some of you need to lighten up. Tiger loves this tournament, so if he says he’s exhausted, I take him on his word. But then, I’m a Golfer and a Gentleman. Remember, this has been this man’s most difficult year of his life. Plus, none of us can possibly understand the constant pressure and demands for his time. How about some of you clowns forming a foundation to help children (like Tiger), instead of sitting around in your underwear, clutching a TV remote, and typing vitriol into this blog. Geez.

Shame on any “pro athlete” for using fatigue or re-energizing as a reason for missing his or her tour’s season ending event. I agree with others that the heart of the matter is heart (and an appreciation for one’s livelihood). This should be a mandatory event, except for legitimate reasons. Tim Finchem needs to bow up to the these guys and take a stand.

Last time I checked “bestgofherintheworld” Tigah was only about 30% black. He is mostly Asian,etc..get your facts straight before you go trumping the race card. Why do you blacks only root for “your own”? Are you too insecure to be the fan of other races.

Chuck…1,2,3
In your eyes for now he’s mostly Asian, right? But as soon as he does an O.J. on you I betcha he’s another…
But here’s a little history lesson for you.
It is imppossible for a black person to be racist. A matter of fact, the word applied alone to a black person is an oxymoron.
If he’s all percentage up, then I guess I’m part white right? Then that makes us colored brothers, right?
I can care less when any self-center non-black person calls out the race card. It is what it is, RACIST! Now tell me, who is Bobby Hull and Wayne Gretzsky? Did you not read? Or am I just rooting for my colored brothers.

Tiger Woods hasn’t played in a tournament in a month. He says he’s too tired to play at East Lake next week.
He won’t be too tired to play in China, Japan and Hawaii the next few weeks and California after that in his own tournament. He will make millions in guaranteed money.
Tiger Woods is the best golfer in the world. Maybe the best of all time. But that doesn’t mean he can’t be arrogant and selfish at the same time.
The fact that he’s blowing off the Tour Championship at East Lake is no surprise. He did it previously to the defunct tournament at Callaway Gardens and the BellSouth Classic.
If it suits his purposes, he’ll do it to the Tour Championship again next year, FedEx Cup or no Fed Ex Cup.

If you are a real golf fan some of the best players in the world are still going to be there. People complain because Tiger dominates the golf scene then they complain because he doesn’t show up. He can’t please everyone. I found it interesting that Scott Verplank said the $1.5 million dollar purse must not mean much to Tiger. He and all golfers on the tour should be grateful to Tiger for bringing so much popularity to the sport that corporate sponsors saw the value and raised tournament purses dramatically since his arrival on the scene. Take a look at first place money before Tiger and now. If Scott wins the first guy to smile and say I had something to do with that big check is Tiger.

What you are seeing this week from Tiger & Phil withdrawing will be the demise of the PGA Tour. This Tour built by Jack, Arnie, Byron, Gary, & many others will be destroyed by the very greed it invited. The top 50 in the world make so much money playing only a handful of events, it’s like they have a part-time job with full-time salary and benefits. Every year, Tiger shapes his schedule more and more just to focus on Majors. Soon, he may only play 4 tournaments a year. Kind of sad that these smart guys are ruining that which their idolds created for them.

Anyone p-o’ed Woods isn’t playing is just mad b/c they bought tickets. That to me is selfish! The guy has destroyed the field all year and has nothing left to prove. He wants to reload for next year. When Verplank moans that “I guess 1.5 million isn’t all that much” I think the idiot needs to realize Woods has already made nearly 10 million not counting endorsements. Tack on his sponsorhip money and the guy is probably nearing 40 million. So Scott, tell me again please what is his incentive to play? He’s won majors, dominated the field and pocketed a ton of money this year. The guy openly admitted he onlt gets up for majors and last time I checked the TOUR Championship was not a major.
And if you all on here are going to slam Woods for not showing then give some of that to Mickleson as well. What is it, the 2nd or 3rd year in a row he has skipped it?

Tiger withdrew from EastLake but plans to play in China in a few weeks. Seems to me he would be better off playing EastLake and cancelling China. If memory serves me correct, China is alot further from Orlando than Atlanta.

The guy plays golf for a living. He’s taking a day off…get over it! Taking a bite out of Tiger may be the closest so many of you might ever get to success. Why so selective in your criticism? Many have mentioned Phil…the guy plays golf for a living…he’s taking time off…get over it.
Instead of crying about who’s not playing, how about the other great golfers that will be there? Tiger and Phil are fun to watch but there are a lot of guys out there that make amazing shots. Heck, without Tiger and Phil there, perhaps some of these guys will take their game up a notch and really put on a show.
Stop the hating! After all, it’s just golf!!!!

Oh poor Tiger is tired, he played 15 events on the PGA tour this year, the tour minimum to retain your card. Imagine how exhausted he would be if he played 16 events (The Tour Championship), he might have to check into a hospital and miss out on guaranteed appearance fees in China.
Not sure why people refer to a streak, Tiger lost at the World Match Play, streak over!
Stop comparing Tiger to golfers of the past - he doesn’t have their stamina. Jack & Arnie drove or flew to 25 -30 events a year, they must have really been exhausted!

What an ignorant bunch of sheep. Are there any schools down there? It’s an association, not a league. You think Augusta cares if Tiger plays any other tournament but theirs? Why do you guys think sponsers pay players huge dollars just to appear?
How is Tiger arrogant? Do you even know the meaning of the word? He won’t do what you want him to do so he’s arrogant. If you don’t like athletes because they’re overpaid then stop attending. If you never attend then you’re just riding on the backs of us that do.

Good for Tiger. It is funny that this is such a big story. This just shows that the world of golf revolves around Tiger. All h*ll breaks loose when he decides not to play one event and all of the critics come out of the woodwork to say that he is arrogant, doesn’t have heart, isn’t worthy, etc. Those folks who are true golf fans should just thank their lucky stars for Tiger. He makes it popular, he makes it mainstream — goodness, he singlehandedly raised the purses for these events by millions and has anyone looked at the gallery that follows him at an event? Were it not for Tiger, golf would be nothing but a blip on the highlight reel of the 11 o’clock news.
