Best wishes for David Pollack

Here’s a chance to send your best wishes and thoughts for David Pollack as he recovers from a broken neck.

He won’t know for several weeks whether he’ll be able to continue his football career, but he says he’s preparing to move on if it’s not good news. “Football is not that important,” he tells the AJC’s Carroll Rogers.

What do you think of his chances for getting back on the field? And what are your best memories of him during his career?

I love to watch you play, but what I look most is your confirmation that “football doesn’t define” you! Good for you!!! Too many athletes (and young people) today don’t understand that. Keep spreading that message and being a POSITIVE force in peoples live. Best wishes to you and your wife and family. Keep praying and keep smiling :->

I broke my back in 1998 on a motorcross accident. I had a 12 hour surgery. I have a friend that is a wrestler that broke his neck around the same time I broke my back. It was rough very rough. The wrestler went back to wrestling and I am able to play sports as well. With the proper rehab I think he will come back. Good luck David, By the way I have a pair of your game gloves I got at a charity golf tournament. You can do it. GO DOGS!

Best luck to you and your wife! Wish you a full recovery soon! I never liked football until I watched you and David Greene playing for the DAWGS. I know a doctor in Chamblee who is one of the best for treating this kind of injuries—-many years ago he successfully treated the First Son of Egypt who got similar injuries.

Well, I had heard about your injury during the game and I don’t even keep up with Football. But I just wanted to tell you not to give up on completely healing and have faith that the Lord will do this for you. Plus you are a real inspiration to others, especially young kids, that get hurt bad and feel like their life is over. I have two young boys, Garrett 11 and Shane 7, and they play soccer. As a mother you always worry about your children getting hurt during any sport or activity, but you can’t give up your dreams out of fear. Garrett wants to be a professional Soccer player and who knows, maybe he will, but I tell him that you have to search your heart and have more than one dream. Hang in there and take care of yourself. P.S. Your wife is a very special and loving wife to stand by your side and take such good care of you. Give her plenty of hugs everyday ! ! !

He promises us that he will meet our needs if we seek him first and through that he is glorified. I will constantly remember you and your wife in my prayers and I pray that GOD will give you the peace you need to sustain you through this time.

David, I broke my neck (C2) in a car wreck 3 weeks after you broke yours. I too am in a halo for 12 weeks and seeing your pictures is very reassuring to me. I am a huge Dawg fan and just knowing that I am not the only one going through this is a huge help. Best of luck with your recovery.

I read that you are having a hard time sleeping. I have found that if you roll up a towel and put it behind your head it is a huge help. It doesn’t feel like your pins are the only thing keeping you up when you do that. I get much better sleep with the towel behind the halo for support. Hope that helps!

David,

You were one of my favorite Dawgs ever, and I’ve seen a lot of them.

You’ve been in mine and my family’s prayers, and I hope that you will one day be able to return to the gridiron.

If that does become something beyond the path your life is heading down, though, I suggest that you would be an excellent coach and leader of young men. Your life in football doesn’t have to end because your playing days might.

You have much to give to football: your leadership, your passion, your fiery emotion, and your ability to inspire others.

Doesn’t that sound better than a life in banking or business? As a coach, you’d be able to help many a young man suceed not only on the gridiron, but in life as well.

I tell you what, there’s a former team of yours who has a defensive coach who seems to have none of those abilities and characteristics you possess, and the team is worse off because of it.

After you time in Ohio is through, I hope the path you life takes brings you back to Athens. I’m sure Coach Mark Richt would be able to find for you a place on his sideline.

Best wishes, and all of my prayers…

You’ll forget the tightening of the screws and the scars will simply lead to another chapter in the larger story. All the best.

I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed watching a Bulldog player as much as you. Your enthusiasm and sheer passion always made you my personal favorite and obviously, the favorite of many others. I was living in Austin, TX when a co-worker and HUGE Texas Longhorns fan told me, “y’all have this kid - #47 - who is just AMAZING!” You amazed us then and still do. May God continue to bless you and your family and may you have a complete and speedy recovery.

And I agree with the writer who referenced your possible future as a coach. I believe that your life will always contain some aspect of football - whether as a player or possibly, as a coach. With your knowledge, skill and enthusiasm, you would be such a HUGE inspiration to young players. When Erk Russell passed away recently, I remember wondering, “who in the world would ever be as great a Defensive Coordinator as Erk?” and it came to me in a flash: DAVID POLLACK! You are a true “Junkyard Dawg!” and I wish you only the best…thanks for continuing to make us all proud.

David and Lindsey, You are a Blessing to each other. Hold on to your faith, and never let it go. God Will, and God Can. My husband had to wear the same kind of device on his leg for a year after a very serious car accident. They then decided to remove his right leg, but at the last hour, they tried one last Surgical Procedure, and IT WORKED!! He told me this week that he is ready to return to his job that he’s done for 42 years. MIRACLES HAPPENS!!! What God has for you….It is for you. Blessings and Happiness Always.

David, I am a huge UGA fan and i try to follow the careers of UGA alumni as they pursue careers in the NFL. I have sent 3 sons to UGA so I have a vested interest. I am also a huge Pittsburgh Steeler Fan having been born and raised there. So please get better so we can see how my Steelers do against your Bengals. You did sack my quarterback, Ben, and it was bittersweet for me. You get well and get back in the game. If Rocky Blier could do it after being told he would never pay football again, so can you. But in the end….you are loved. A lot of us out here can’t say that. You have a lot of love out here. Take advantage of it. I think your healing can be found in the people that love you the most. In December 2005 I broke my c-2 vertebra along with around 13 other bones in a car accident. I was a senior at Brookwood high school (just around the corner from Shiloh) planning for a professional ballet career the following year. My life was put on hold just as yours is now. I wore the halo until March 28 when I had a c-2 fusion. When I heard of your injury and that you were getting a halo my heart sank. I wanted to write to you but I didn’t know how. I know how much the thoughts and support from others meant to me. Looking at the pictures on-line of you brought back so many memories. I noticed the cut sleeve on your shirt so you could slide it under the halo. I remember cleaning "my holes". I used a bone stimulator that looked just like the one you have. Kissing was always dangerous for others. And I played more video games than I ever had in my life. I finished my senior year and am now dancing again and attending Georgia State until I have fully recovered. Going through what I did taught me so much. I never knew there were so many nice, caring people out there. I also learned to be thankful for everyday. I know that you are experiencing so many different emotions and it’s hard to feel lucky. But you are lucky and so many people are thinking about and praying for you. I know that this is one of hundreds of notes that were sent to you and I’m sorry that it’s so long. When I was in my halo I felt like I was the only one in the world in that situation. It is inspiring to see you in such good spirits and with such a positive attitude. I have a lot of good ideas when it comes to living with a halo. We had to be creative so I could have my hair washed and my body cleaned with clothes to wear. I wish there was a better way I could share those things with you but you look like you are doing great. Good Luck! I will continue to follow your story and hope for the best!

Your radio interview with Loran Smith on the Bulldog Tailgate show is one of the most impressive statements of faith that I have ever heard and numerous others have commented about it also. I am praying for God’s will in your life and that he gets you all better! I also respect you for the level of energy drive, Zeal you have. I play soccer and also play defense and would think play like POllack. Like there were 45 seconds left and when the game was over i could take a break. I would dig deep to finish the game just like my Hero David Pollack. I am amazed how great a person you are! I met you at an autograph signing for Sports Addiction in the Douglasville mall! I remember the line was crazy but once i got to the front of the line - it was worth it - every second! I remember i said ” you’re the hottest guy in the whole world.” very childishly but being able to met you that one day made that year so awesome! You are truly a great person! David, I was upset by the news of your injury. Everyone in the Bulldog nation took a collective gasp and immediately got on the prayer wagon for you and your family. I too have been going through a difficult journey, but it has given me strength in God and my family. And when you have a good woman in your heart and in your life there is nothing that can’t be overcome. I would say God Bless to you , but God has blessed you already. As a Christian man you know that there is a lesson in this and you have probably prepared yourself for a situation such as this long ago. David, You have alot of fans in Georgia that are praying and thinking about you every day. I hope that you have a full recovery and that you are able to return to playing football. However I praise you and I am very impressed with your decision to go back to school. I’m sure that there are alot of kids and other college players that look up to you and hopefully this will encourage them to get their college degrees in the event they are ever injured. I pray that everything works out for you and your family. I also wish you the best. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

David, Like many here, I loved watching you play. Just from watching you play, I can tell you are someone who appreciates what God has given you and make the most of every opportunity. Thank you for your witness for Christ, and for using your situation to remind us that there are more important things in this world than sports, work, etc. I wish you well in your recovery, and may God bless you richly.

David, MY favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11. God indeed has a great plan for your life, whether it is back on the football field or in Real Estate. Thank you for being the manof God that you are and for sharing your life with us, for all of these years. I miss you terribly at UGA, but have learned the meaning of “Who Dey” because I love to watch you play! More importantly, I love to see & hear what you & Lindsey are doing off the field to serve Christ. May God continue to bless you richly and abundantly!! We all thank God for blessing us with you. What’s up Dave? From a Georgia boy to a Georgia boy, I do send out well wishes to you on a speedy recovery, and for you to get back out on the Gridiron and knock some heads, like you did when you was at UGA. I went to Georgia Tech from 1998 - 2003, and y’all did give us some hell, but we did stick in there with y’all. In my opinion, I think GT and UGA are evenly matched because it’s always close when we play y’all. Again, best wishes on a speedy recovery, and always remember If God’s word is your compass, and his spirit is your map, then you should be on the right course to full recovery.

Julia suffered a broken neck on 10/16th in a car accident near her home and from the early hours in the ICU she has talked about how she now has something really in common with you, besides being GA loyal through and through. Our prayers are with you and Lindsay for a complete recovery. God always strenghtens us in the broken places. I want to wish you the very best. I have been a die hard Tech fan since 1970 when I moved to Georgia. I have pulled against UGA for those same years as well. A worthy adversary makes the college game what it is. Within those confines, I would never wish injury to any of the Dawgs, past or present. The world would be a better place if more of our people had the work ethic and focus of college athletes. I have always admired and respected the quality athletes that UGA has produced. I particularly respected the level of play you demonstrated against us and wished we could have more players of your tenacity. I am sure that tenacity will serve you to prevail over your present circumstance. I hope to see you sacking high salaried quarterbacks next year. If not, I wish you a good life outside of the game.

    Truest of best wishes,

Our prayers are with you any your family durng this time. I am a life long GA fan and love every game and year that I am blessed to our Dawgs run onto the field.

As you and Lindsey both work and heal together and prayerfully live your life God will show you what path to follow.

When the days come when you wonder what to do please read Romans 5:1-5

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

    May Blessings and Prayers.

The Bulldawg nation continues to lift you and Lindsey up in prayer. The four years you and David Greene played at UGA showed the world that good guys don’t alway finish last. The good Lord has big plans for you. Coach Richt once told a reporter (about you), “The motor’s always running.” Glad to see that’s till true, even while you are recuperating. Thank you for your sweet spirit, the wonderful example you set for youngsters and for flashing those dimples!! No wonder Cincinnati loves you as much as Georgia does. We’ll continue to pray for a good report. A very famous Bulldawg (YOU) once said “Don’t cry cuz it’s over; smile because it happened.” I hope we’re smiling in the months to come. David - What a blessing you have been to so many people! Your testimony while playing at UGA was always so uplifting, but now God is using your neck injury to show so many people in this country how a person who has given his life to Christ can respond positively to a seemingly devastating event. You and Lindsey are proof that we should praise God when things are good, but we should praise him just the same when they are not so good. Being raised as devout Dawg fans, my two children have always adored you, and I am so thrilled they chose such a genuinely “good” person to admire. Thank you for your witness, and I pray God will grant you a speedy and complete recovery. Regardless, continue to seek his will and you will be happy and successful. Remember that the will of God will never take you to a place where the grace of God will not protect you. Claim the victory! Love and prayers to both you and Lindsey.

I have been a Dawg fan my entire life and the two finest men to ever wear the Red & Black representing the Bulldogs on and off the field wore numbers 47 & 34.

We wish you a speedy and complete recovery. You will be a success in whatever future endeaver that you pursue in your life whether on or off the football field. You are the kind of high character individual that would make everyone proud if you were to ever run for and hold political office.

As a young man, I grew up watching a baseball player named Pete Rose demonstrate a work ethic that sadly is not the norm for our society. I learned that real success in life comes form this work attitude when applied towards all aspects of one’s life. Over the past few years my family and I have been blessed to watch you perform and you have become that same symbol of tireless effort and commitment to my children that Pete Rose was to me. Thanks for being what God has asked of you; He will not be in your debt over this seemingly life changing event. God bless you and your family.

    Dear David,

I pray for a speedy and complete recovery for you my brother. I have been so impressed with your attitude after facing such a serious and career threatening injury.

I know that you take comfort in that God is in control. I know that you have the support of your family and your Bulldog family. There are many christian brothers and sisters praying for you.

May God continue to bless you and your family!!!

    GO DAWGS!!!

David, I am a UGA grad living in Fayetteville AR. I always thought you represented what I love so much about the University and college football. You had a passion for the game and you were having fun. When GA came to AR to play the Razorbacks in your senior season, I brought my son and dad to see the game. What touched my heart and impressed my son, was after the teams completed warmups and headed for the locker room, you came to the center of the field and held your arms out wide and raised your face toward a beautiful blue sky. My twelve year old son was standing beside me and asked me what you were doing. I said he is praising God for the day and the opportunity to play the game. You had a great day on the field. But, what has stayed with my son more than your performance on the field was watching you praise our God! Thanks for the example. I will pray for your speedy recovery. Go Dawgs! sic ‘em… woof, woof, woof

    David,

I put you in my favorite DAWG class with the likes of Hershel Walker early on just because of your values as an individual and your athleticism. I found it coincidental, as it turned out, that you and Hershel are the only three-time All-Americans from UGA. I proudly wear #47 and will never think of another name to associate with that jersey.

I pray that you will recover fully and get back out there for Cincy and make a big difference as you did at UGA. Regardless, your presence and testimony back at UGA sure could be used to help kids, like the O-line Miller guy who just got kicked off the team. Those kids have the chance in a lifetime and don’t know/realize what they have. Thus, take it for granted. You can now show them how quick things can change and why they need to stay on track and maximize their opportunity.

One day, I want your autograph, in person, not on Ebay.

    Get well soon!

    Danny

You are an inspiration to us all. My husband and I follow the Dawgs from Texas and made the long drive to the Outback Bowl to watch you and David Greene play your last game as Dawgs. It was a great trip and worth the drive. We followed you as a Bengal last year and were always excited to see you and your enthusiastic way of playing. You are a true roll model for the kids coming up and we hope and pray for a complete recovery.

Hi stranger! It’s been awhile, hasn’t it? I’m still here in Snellville, going to nursing school, and working at Eastside. I have seen so many people have setbacks in their life, but the ones with a positive attitude are the ones that thrive! I’ve heard you on the radio recently and it sounds like you’re doing great, despite the circumstances. I’m so proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished. I sure do miss watching you play in Athens, though! Keep your spirits up and you’ll be back to new before you know it! You’re in my prayers! Kristina Campbell

David, I was listening to the Ga. pregame show a few weeks ago and heard your interview with Loren Smith. I had always heard of your faith in Christ, but those few moments on the the radio really made me think of “What am I doing with the time God has give me?” Beyond all of the football heroics, I’m so proud that you are unashamed to call Him, Lord. God has a life beyond comprehension for us all. My favorite scripture is: Matthew 7:24-27 Parphrased- Build your house on the ROCK! May God continue to bless you and Lindsey. <>< Eddie Cole

I am impressed m by your character, you don’t allow your job define you as a man. You are so right there are more importnat things to worry about. Especialy holding your four babies. God knows what he is doing and he has a great plan for you. Keep your faith and trust in him.

    David,

I ahve been a loyal Bengal fan for some 35 years now. I was so excited when they drafted you because I know they had a special player one that every team that is going to win a Super Bowl needs. I was wathing the game when you were injured and immediately started praying t hat you were Ok. I was saddened by the news that you were injured with a C-6 fracture. But I like you am a man of strong faith and therefore I know that God will heal you fully and bring you back to where you need to be which is leading the Bengals to the Super bowl in ‘07. You and your family and in my prayers always. May God continue to bless you all each day.

    Your # 1 Fan,

    Keith
