What went wrong vs. New York?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Falcons didn’t fare so well coming off their bye week.
They surrendered too many yards on the ground and gave up plenty of passing yards to New York as well.
To make matters worse, Michael Vick took a pounding.
What would you consider the Falcons’ greatest weakness in the contest?
Rush defense?
Pass defense?
Passing offense?
Give us your opinion.

What a crappy weekend of football. The Falcons and dawgs both played like crap. Little or no passrush and NO passing offence. Going into the weekend both teams should have been ready to play to win, and niether team came out fired up.

Will somebody wake up in the front office and come to realize that Mike Vick is a f-ing horrible quaterback. Yea he beats the crappy teams, but how many times does he have to fail in a game against a good defense?? YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO PASS THE BALL!! The falcons will never win a championship with him as out QB. Bad passes all day, he can’t protect the football, he just sucks. Welcome too the next 5 years of your life falcon fans.

Rush Defense. The Falcons gave up too many big runs. New Orleans showed that Atl’s quick d overpursues. I didn’t see the game on TV, kept watch on the internet, so I wasn’t able to see exactly how the Giants were able to get their rushing yards, but my guess is that they ran counter plays with Barber.
Why can’t the Falcons make adjustments at halftime? When they needed the offense to get some first downs to rest the d after the Giants scored - it was 3 and out on successive possessions. The Giants are vulnerable on the pass d, how many times did the Falcons try to pass long downfield? Knapp has got to start the game by calling quick pass plays to get Vick into some kind of rhythm. I think Knapp has got to go.

Here’s what I said before this game…still rings ever so true now.
“Please don’t tell me you’re actually trying to give Vick’s arm credit for the 3-1 record. I said leave Vick in as a runner (or as some have suggested even a receiver).
What has he done so far this season to help in the passing game through four games? With the Falcon’s defense if Matt or D.J. would have started all four games would we really have a worse record than the current 3-1?
If Vick didn’t have a strong running game to back him up would he still be a winning QB. Let him try starting for this Arizona team and see if he’s still a winning QB.
Let’s talk about Vick some more after the next three games. I’m telling you if any or all of these next three teams shut down the Falcon’s run game then the Falcons will lose each game in which that happens. Vick can’t win with his arm. If I’m wrong I’ll be more than happy to come on here and admit that in about a month. If I’m right then I’d love for all you Vick is a wonderful winning QB folks out there to admit you’re wrong.”
Turns out the Giants didn’t need to totally shut down the run game to win. Vick is not a quarterback…he is a running back. Start Matt or D.J. and let Vick run from now on. That’s the only way to be a solid winning passing team.

The problem wasn’t Vick’s passing, it was the lack of “catching” by the receivers and the lack of protection from the Offensive line. What was Jenkins’ excuse for dropping a picture perfect long pass by Vick in the first half?

Coaching…coaching…coaching…didn’t they have two weeks to prepare for this game? We had them 3rd and long twice in the second half, you think Eddie or Jimmy called a blitz…no way…we were all ready getting gashed on Defense, why not take a chance? The receivers continued their weekly trend of dropping sure touchdowns…this game showed who is the contender and who is the pretender…

Passing Offense, plain and simple. Teams LOVE when Vick drops back, because the guy is inaccurate, can’t make a decision, fumbles, and is pretty much lousy. Vick has been exposed and figured out. Bad defenses have good games against Vick. A good defense like we seen today has great games against him. He was dared to throw all day, and we see the results.

I am not a vick fan, but it comes down to catching passes and changing up your offensive pattern. too many dropped balls. also why wasn’t vick rolled out more. why drop him straight back on 3rd and 3 instead of a roll out with a run pass option.

Micheal Vick is not the reason we lost today! We have two number one picks WRs that can not catch for s**! Our O line is the worst line in football and I am being real when I say that when you are getting paid millions of dollars to catch a football and you drop touchdowns and first downs then you need to be cut or traded! I had hope for the falcons, but untill we get a passing game, we will never get to a superbowl never the less win one. We will nerver win a superbowl lets be real Atlanta. The players are too busy going to clubs and talking to women. They don’t care about winning they just want their game checks. In the real world, if you do not do your job you lose it! FIRE JIM MORA!! the man is just a terrible coach. why does the offense have no audibles? how exactly does that happen in the nfl? and what about a 2 minute offense or a hurry up offense? is it possible for the coaches to implement such anytime soon? this is just apoorly coached team. I love MV7 but he does have his shortcomings. His shortcomings were never this glaring when Dan Reeves was his QB and we had a bunch of no name wideouts running around out there. But, now that we have a bunch of first round draft picks, we can not seem to do anything passing wise. that ain’t all the fault of the QB. this is just a terribly coached team.

How some of you come on here and say it isn’t Vick’s fault is hilarious (that means funny) You won’t even say it’s part his fault. Always the receivers. You never mention the fumbles, the passes thrown 10ft. over everyones head. I guess I can live with it if you can. Nothing anyone can do, the guy makes too much money to sit on the bench. I’ll hang in there and keep watching, but it’s got to the point it’s almost comical to watch Vick immitate a QB. He sucks.

Please inform the Atlanta Falcons organization that we will continue to lose games until they(Mora,Blank, and M.Vick) agree to change Vicks strategy of running with the ball. He is risking a serious injury as well by continuously using the same techniques. The other teams are wise to what moves he is going to execute. He is a dynamic quarterback but he must change his style.

I can’t stress it enough but the WCO is the wrong system for Michael Vick. If Michael Vick is going to survive as a falcon then they must go back to an offense similar to what Dan Reeve ran or put 335 pound linemans in front of him to give him better protection. And he need a veteran reciever like Deon Branch, Terry Holt or even T.O who know how to get separation to make big plays. The defense will be ok especially when AB is 100%

Let’s just face an unpopular fact. For the Falcons to win against good teams with any consistency, they need to be able to throw the football. Yes, it’s thrilling to watch Michael Vick run for 120 yards a game, but ultimately, and this bears itself out week after week, good teams can stop the Falcons inside the Red Zone and out because they know Atlanta can’t complete a pass when it really has to. Running Vick around the perimeter only works so much. The obvious solution? Try something else. That solution would be really unpopular with fans, and I doubt Mora has the strength of conviction to put Matt Schaub in when it’s very obvious he’s a better passer. In the short term, it may garner a few boos, but in the long term, the Falcons may benefit from recognizing a fundamental truth- Vick may never be a great quarterback. It’s time the Facons made the correct tough decision.

When are the Falcons fans going to quit throwing the Vick card and realize that the recievers are dropping the ball or not getting open. How many times this season has the ball hit the recievers in the hands and THEY JUST DROP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I swear that Butterfinger candybars should be our new sponser. If Matt Schaub goes in and hits the recievers will they catch it?If they do than it will justify that it wasnt Vick doing wrong. It was good to see Mora finally yelling at the recievers for not doing their job.Mora is a good coach and I hope nobody gets down on him.Im not a Vick apologist but lets assign blame where it is due.Vick does not pass block and judging by todays performance neither does the Falcons offensive line.Vick does not catch passes and neither do the recievers! Was Vick in the pocket—-YES!Did the ball hit the recievers in the hands—-YES!His game was not perfect but lets not hope the guy gets hurt for other peoples mistakes.

Did any of you idiots out there see our offensive line?
It is the worst offensive line in football, bar none.
When they do that cheating thing they do, they’re great.
But when they have to be men, and stand their ground, they play like girls getting pushed around out there.
Heck, girls would’ve done better.
Matt Lehr is a pitiful excuse for an NFL player.
And Jenkins.
Jenkins catches that pass, this is a different ballgame. But like always, our recievers let us down.
Vick had four passes dropped today. Not every ball can be on the money, Eli’s sure wasn’t.
And since when did that moron Willie Martinez start coaching the Falcons’ defense?
Greg Knapp, once again, has proven himself to be the worst OC in the history of the game. You have third and one, you need to put a drive together, or at least get a first down to help your defense rest, and what do you do? You play action pass, and Matt Lehr and Todd McClure get Vick sacked bacause of their $hitty pass blocking.

People who won’t blame Vick and instead blame rest of team are very very stupid. Fumble after fumble after fumble, bad pass after bad pass after bad pass, one missed catch then more bad passes and fumbles then another missed catch, then a run. Vick is awful. Receivers are so shocked to see an occasional ball somewhere near their hands that they have a hard time catching it. I’m so sick of the stupid people who insist on never putting any blame on Vick. Sure there were a lot of problems with whole team today…but Vick’s poor play needs to be pointed out as well.

It is amazing to me how little all of these people, who say that Vick is the problem, know about football. As I look aroun the league, QBs throw balls to the receivers and it is their job to catch the ball. The reason teh defense wore down is becasue the offense couldnt sustain a drive. Why? because of dropped passes. Our receivers have one on one coverage and they can not separate from their defenders. Also, the offensive coordinator, Greg Knapp is not getting it done. His schemes are very predictable. The offensive line can not give Mike more than 3 - 5 seconds of protection while otehr teams that are successful get all day long to throw the ball and they have receivers that actually make an effort to catch the ball.
For those that say Vick is not a good QB…. I suppose it was his fault that Jenkins dropped the TD pass today that hit him in the hands, or the many balls that Roddy White dropped that hit him in the hands. I turn the tube to see other teams and see these other receivers in the league making amazing catches where teh ball was not thrown on the money. We need playmakers in teh receiving core. When Finneran wsa playing he and Alge had no problem catching the balls from Mike…. Some of you people need to stop watching football if all you can say is it’s Vicks fault because you understand nothing about the game.

Why is everyone bashing Vick? Did Vick give up 259 yards rushing? Did Vick drop a pass in the endzone? Did Vick let a pass fly through his hands which resulted in a interception? NO, NO, NO! The problem is painfully obvious. Our QB can’t read defenses, throw accurately, throw with any touch, or lead his teammates. Stop blaming the coaches for everything because they have already dumbed down the offense enough. I think the Michael Vick experiment has failed. He is starting to look like a faster Kordell Stewartd than Steve Young. Bench him now in order to save the season or continue to believe in the hype and go nowhere.

On both sides of the ball, we lost this game in the trenches. Vick had no time to pass and Manning had forever and a day. Vick getting sacked seven times has to speak at least in part to the inadequacy of the Gibbs O-line philosophy.
Dunn had one good run and one great one. Otherwise he has been a non-factor recently. I think an O-line with at least three injuries on it is the reason we couldn’t run.
As for their line, they just pulled magnificently to seal off the ends.

I want somebody to tell me who the hell is going to catch that pass Roddy White “dropped” that led to a Giants interception? That ball was thrown behind him and at high velocity. Unless Roddy White was just supposed to sit in the zone for that ball and wait, it was a terrible throw by Vick and it cost the Falcons a field goal or a TD. Jenkins’ drop was huge, but Vick always makes his share of awful throws to cost the Falcons any chance of moving the ball through the air. We’ve all seen it. We all know it. Just admit it.

Something bad wrong in Atlanta !No offense, no defense, no desire to win ! I’ve seen Falcons play worse, but that was when they didn’t have a team!!!!!!When you sign a contract to play professional football, you should at least try to make people think you are trying to win. Arthur Blank should sue the players for salaries they received for the Saints and Giants games, and then return it to the fans who sat through that terrible excuse for a game. Better than that, take the money and buy a quarterback that can pass consistently. I am beginning to think that someone is buying games ? How can professional ball players look so much like professional wrestlers….at least the wrestlers don’t lie about what they do. They’ll tell you quick, “we are entertainers”….Still love the Falcons, but sure feel terrible about what’s happening with the team. Let’s face it… the Falcons are doomed to be a mediocre team. One year we will go 9-7, the next 7-9. I believe this is the best we can expect from them. As for who to blame… is it Vick? is it Mora/Knapp? I am not certain. I like Vick and want him to succeed, but I believe now that he is not going to succeed here with Mora/Knapp. It’s either him or them.

When will the Falcon’s brain trust wake up and face realty. You have to have a passing game to compliment the running game and Mike Vick just cannot get it done in that category. It’s so obvious when we are running and when we are passing. Eli had all day to throw the ball not Mike Vick we don’t have the pass protection only a run oriented O-line. Come on Arthur throw your weight around this season is still salvagable. Change it up let Schaub run a few series we might be pleasantly surprised

Bottom Line, every phase of the game suffered today. It wasn’t just Vick or the receivers. It was o-line, it was overall defense. We should be used to this kind of thing. It happens every season in Atlanta. To set a goal of 9-7 or higher with the Falcons is unrealistic. I said 7-9 before the season and now I’m thinking worse. Just look down the schedule. There are not that many beatable teams left this season.
I try to remain positive week after week, but let’s be honest. This was a must win even this early in the season. Don’t be fooled. The Giants are not that good a team. And now with the Saints and Carolina winning, we’re third in our division with the Steelers and Bengals coming up. You know, 7-9 looks good right now.

Mike Vick is above average good. He is an excellent athlete but his passing accuracy is very suspect. Some times its there & others its not. He does bring the crowd and he is the reason for season ticket sales.
When the tickets stop selling, change will come.

check the winning percentage for mike vick. mike vick has gone to the playoffs in 2 of his 3 years as a starter. mike vick has won playoff games in both years he went to the playoffs. mike vick beat green bay in the playoffs at lambeau. mike vick went to the conference championship game in his second year as a starter. mike vick almost went to the conference championship pretty much singlehandedly in what was in essence his rookie year as a starter. mike vick went to the national championship game as a redshirt freshman in college. virginia tech reached heights with MV7 they had never seen before and that they have never seen since he left va tech. what is the record of the falcons in the last five years when MV7 plays as opposed to when he does not play? mike vick is just a god damn winner, people. when MV7 had a coach who went to the super bowl four times and who was a true believer in his star QB, MV7 looked much better passing the ball. we have a bunch of nitwits coaching this team who were partly responsible for the end of the 49ers 20 year run of excellence.
check the completion percentage for schaub in his NFL career. it is not even 50%. he is wallowing around in reggie ball territory with his completion %. so why do the nitwits on here keep saying that schaub is just this great passer. schaub has been a WCO protege for almosgt 6 or 7 years, and he still can not complete 50% of his passes. that does not sound like he is a great passer to me. and what exactly did schaub win in college? funny, i do not seem to remember a time over the last decade where virginia was just this feared team, not even when your beloved schaub was the QB.
as for DJ, he is one of my favorite college players of all time. i absolutley love the guy. but the next moronic blogger that gets on here and says that DJ is better than MV7 needs to be immediately escorted off this board and sent back to grammar school. only an ignorant bulldawg diehard or a seventh grader could have that opinion. DJ may end up being a great QB some day and i certainly pray and hope that he does, but, as of now, no one on here has any basis to say that DJ is better than MV7. one was the first pick overall and the other was lucky to even get drafted and was probably drafted more as a favor by king arthur to the bulldawg faithful.
the wide receivers suck. i wish we could go back to the days when we had a bunch of no name WRs instead of these useless first round picks. vick actually seemed better.
BTW, it has been 2 hours now, and I am sorry to report that TIKI BARBER has just run past my house and he still has not been touched.

How can you monrons blame Vick. The offensive line didn’t block, the defensive line didn’t put any pressure on the golden boy.
The receivers dropped passes and yet you guys blame Vick. You all are the same ones that wanted Golden Boy Doug Johnson.
I really hope that Vick goes to another team and comes back and kick our butts.
It’s not his fault. I guess since he doesn’t look like you guys, he’s not good.

Dean got it right. Another unprepared Falcons team. Mora & his staff have the team unprepared two out of every three games. You get a lot of attitude from Mora & great pictures of his family, but he ain’t an NFL head coach. We’re in for a long autumn and a very short winter (no playoffs) with this team.

Vick will never be the most accurate guy but he generally makes up for it with his feet. As far as White’s drop they were in a zone. He should have set up in the window. Instead, he kept running. Jenkins had the TD drop plus another really bad one. The worst thing of all though was the fact that NY was sending seven on every play but we never adjusted. Play max protect (with Tivo you would see that the Giants kept seven in when Abe was in) then throw it down field. This line isn’t good enough at pass blocking so coaches need to get them some help with backs and TEs. We also run the same six plays every game. Overall this was a sickening, pathetic, uninspired, coach head rolling performance.

I’m new to this sport so could someone answer a few questions for me?
Aren’t Professional WRs suppose to catch balls that hit them in both hands?
Aren’t Professional DLs & LBs suppose to tackle RBs before they rip for 10+ yds?
Aren’t Professional OLs suppose to block so the QB can have time to throw the ball?
Aren’t Professional QBs suppose to be 6’5”+ and accurate passers?
Aren’t Professional DBs suppose to prevent the other teams recievers from being wide open and catching the ball?

I wonder if some of you saw the same game I did. At least six dropped passes by Falcon wide receivers, no pass rush on Manning, no stopping or even slowing up the run for the Giants and poor play calling. Vick threw 4 bad passes, others he threw away. Wake up people and smell the coffee. It was a team effort that cost us the game. Coaches and Players. Manning had too much time to throw the ball. Any decent quarterback is going to pick you apart with that much time. Mike had little or no time to set up to throw. Until we get some good pass block coaching, decent adjustments at half time and better plays adopted for each team this is going to be a long season.

Wow, what a ugly game. I can’t believe how horrible the offense looked. This a sad day in Falcon history. We may have finally started to see the coming of the crossroads here with #7. I’m the biggest fan of Vick’s, but what is EVER going to happen with this passing game? I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but what is the deal here? Either it’s overthrown or underthrown OR when Vick finally does throw it right; the rcvrs DROPS it. I want to hold out hope, but this is an eerily similar feeling of wasted hope I had on the Braves not choking in the playoffs. The Vick debate is going to go to a whole new level now. No pass rush either. Defense can’t dominate every game in the NFL though either. I’m glad I missed the fight at the end. I heard about it though. Cheap shot from the Giants, but hey, we played like punks today anyway. Worse news is, the Steelers are looking like Super champs again today vs the Chiefs. It’s like 31-6 or something. It was 31-0 for the longest. And now they come to the Dome with our offense looking like hot and smelly turtle @#$%. Just great. Mora, I hope you know what you’re doing. Go Falcons (and learn how to pass…)!!!

Why is it that these Vick fans seems to put all the blame on others, and give Vick a pass on the things he does. Of course recievers dropping the ball is not his fault, nor the blocking up front. And yes it is some what exciting watching Vick run when the pass play breaks down.
But for falcons fans, if we are to have a successful franchise changes have to be made. If Vick is the quarterback then we need for him to learn to pass from the pocket. GO GET A BIG NAME RECIEVER—RANDY MOSS COMES MIND that can catch the deep ball. Also Mora really needs to look closely at maybe giving Matt Schaub a little more playing time…lets see how this offense moves without the abilities of a running quarterback, and see how we look with pocket-poised quarterback. And if things are no different then I would agree with the Vick only quarterback fans.
If nothing changes Atlanta is no better from last year. Like I said before these games against reputable defenses and offense will tell if Atlanta can compete…so far they are failing…and I agreee enough blame to go around. But face it we can not run teams out of the game, we must have an exceptional passing game to compete with good teams.

Has any of you “need someone that can catch the ball” folks ever actually play serious football??? I think NOT!!! Y’all have no idea what a properly thrown pass “feels” like…..You could be standing still and if a ball thrown at you doesn’t have the right “touch” YOU couldn’t hang on to it…
It’s really strange….Vick “wins” games, but it is never his fault when the Falcons lose a game….. HELLO!!!! The TEAM wins and loses….individuals contribute positively and negatively….Dunn contributed in a POSITIVE way (146 yds rushing, 90yd TD run.) Vick the running back had a POSITIVE of 68 rushing yds with a 22yd TD run. Vick the QB from the NY25 threw an INT and from the NY 44 fumbled and lost the ball…..two opportunities down the drain….. Vick looked lost most of the time…..He can run, but he didn’t scramble…. dropped back and got sacked SEVEN times, fumbled FOUR times and was HIT another TWELVE times!!!!! Great offense…. Thanks Knapp….. Vick has talent..Will these coaches ever learn how to use it????The previous staff had Vick going in the right direction….WCO (Wasted Chances Offensively) is a NIGHTMARE!!!

I am tired of Michael Jenkins and Roddy White NOT making plays or making plays that hurt the team. Vick is developing and getting better at passing the ball, but I don’t blame him for running instead of throwing because I wouldn’t have faith in #12 or #84 either. Management needs to step up and get Vick and the team a legit #1 receiver that would open things up and complement Algae. At this point, make a deal for Jerry Porter (Oak) or Mike Williams (Det). They can’t be any worse than what we have. Randy Moss wanted to come to Atlanta. I know his attitude sucks and he takes plays off, but atleast when he isn’t taking plays off he can catch and run. The guys we have play every down but they SUCK. I’ll take part time real talent over full time minimal talent any day. This team has talent but has needed a receiver ever since Andre Rison left for Cleveland.

The falcons were manhandled on both lines of scrimmage. The WR corp is awful. The tackling was horrendous. Paul Carrington has alligator arms. Now all three por-bowlers on the DL are injured. I think we just saw the season vanish right before our eyes todays. The same could be said yesterday at the UGA game.

The Head Coach is arrogant and thinks he knows everything. He, and his staff, threw out some gimmicks early in the season and the League has caught up to them. With no adjustments by the Head Coach, or his staff, they are to blame for the state of affairs.
Mr. Blank has brought in players everyone said would put the team over the top, yet the only one I see earning his pay is Lawyer Malloy…The rest of the team needs to review his efforts and start playing smart and not just aggressive.
It seems the D-Line is only intent on sacks and going for the QB, opening up the edges for rushes, which pulls the LB’s out of the middle of the field where Tight Ends park and clean up. Moving Safeties over to fill gaps left by LB’s means the outside (opposite D’Angelo Hall) is going to be open or susceptible for down-field blocking to spring longer runs.
Coach Mora, I think you bring enthusiasm, but not having players in the right place at the right time, and not having them execute is not an excuse in the NFL. Its time the job is taken seriously by the GM, Head Coach, and all of the players.

I love Michael Vick, he a superrrrr Athlete. But unlike McNabb, he’s not a true QB. I Know he puts buts in the seats right now, but he’ll never deliver the ring. It’s time to pull a Hershal Walker type trade. Give Vick up for a lot of First round draft choices and a veteran QB. You can throw the ball 25 yard a lot faster and easier than you can run it.

The falcons could lose 100 to 99 and you guys would still blame Vick. I dont understand. I understand he tends to overthrow but what qb doesnt. Give this loss to the run defense. When your defense is on the field for 3/4 of the second half for not being able to stop the run they tend to get tired. It also didnt help that the whole starting defensive line didnt play most of the fourth. Trade Shaub now before his value goes down and bring in a receiver who can catch the ball. But dont put all this on Vick.

Our WR’s are garbage. They drop catches that NFL players should make. If Jenkins makes that catch, that’s a TD. If Roddy White makes that catch, instead of tipping it for an INT then we’re inside the 10 with a good chance to score. I can’t believe it, but I actually miss Brian Finneran. Vick isn’t accurate nor does he make great decisions, but at the same time he has probably the worst set of WR’s in the game. Rich McKay is a great talent-evaluator on defense but he’s horrible at picking WR’s. Look at his history in Tampa Bay, drafting WR busts & now he’s doing the same in Atlanta. We need a proven #1 WR (not Peerless Price who was a #2 behind Moulds). Lelie should get the start, he seems he can play. And we should at least throw one long ball to Lelie every game because he’s proven he can make those catches. Our pass protection is also horrible, Vick had barely any time before defenders were in his face. While, Donatel being the wuss that he is (scared we’re gonna get burned) only rushes with the front four and gives Eli all day to throw. If you pressure Eli, he looks rattled and is prone to turn the ball over like Kurt Warner. But if you give him all day to throw, he looks like his brother Peyton. Our play calling was too predictable, 49ers fans warned us about that & many thought Greg Knap was the worst OC they ever had. Our run defense was garbage as well. Tiki was running the ball down our throats, and Brandon Short got a first down whenever he wanted. We play well the first half, but usually under the Mora reign we come out flat in the second half. We had all the momentum, up 14-3 after Dunn had a 90 yard run and after that we get dominated. If our offense could’ve put one long scoring drive, it would’ve been a different story. Also, Jason Webster played well before this game at CB… but he’s a liability, even when he’s playing off in zone instead of press coverage. He still can’t cover his man. It wouldn’t hurt to put Jimmy Williams in there just to see what he can do.

I write the same thing on this blog week in and week out, I fell really bad for some of these Atlanta players and Rich Mckay, there is a talented group of players on that field and we have the worst coaching staff in the league, week in and week out we make the same mistakes and have the same lackluster gameplan. Two questions, who in there right mind thinks Roddy white and Jenkins are NFL receivers, they can’t catch anything Roddy caused an Int and Jenkins dropped a pass that few Nfl QB’s can throw. I believe it was Einstein who said the “definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results” i’m threw banging my head against the wall for this team.

Vick throws a great deep ball, why don’t we throw it more often? I was watching Mcnabb play the Cowboys, seeing how he just throws it deep and let his WRs make the play & was wondering why can’t we do the same? Oh yeah I just remembered, Vick has less than 2 seconds to throw the ball most of the time and when he does throw an accurate ball, his WR’s drop it. Lelie is the only one who can consistently catch the deep ball, he should be the #1 starter. Our run offense graduated from Harvard while our pass offense is still in preschool.

Lay the blame with Mr Knapp. i know this has been beat into the ground and I’ve tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it’s apparent that we are wasting the talent we have. Where are the screens to griffith we were utilizing last year, where are the slant route & deep balls. Where are the trick plays that New Orleans & Philly seem to execute weekly? Instead of studying college options take a look at what your peers are doing. Have yo tried to call the falcons plays before the snap? I am successful over 80% of the time. I honestly believe that we have only about a dozen or so plays. Why are we dropping back to pass on 3rd & 2, if we have the number 1 rushing attack in the NFL? That sack killed any chance of us making a comeback in this game. We need better coaching & receiving play or we will be chasing the Saints & Carolina before we know what hit us.

The defense stayed on the field too long. Great first half but got tired in the second half, you could see the body language. Also, three first stringers were hurt. Our problem is Mike Vick can’t pass in the NFL. If the other team stops the run, we are toast. NO PASSING OFFENSE.

No one knows which Falcon team shows up on Sundays. If they play the rest of the season as they did today and against the Saints, they should finish 6-10. Too many dropped passes, no pass protection, too many missed tackles. Mike Vick should be moved to receiver or running back and develop a true drop back quarterback. It is just a matter of time before Vick gets hurt seriously with the pounding he takes.

1) We have receivers with questionable hands. 2) We have a QB with questionable accuracy. 3) We have a coaching staff that isn’t delivering offensively.
Solutions- 1) Hard to do anything about this mid-season. I don’t think we should trade Shaub. 2) Next time the Falcons are down and struggling, bench Vick for Shaub. Send a message. The alternative - trade him for Moss and some draft picks. 3) At a minimum replace Knapp at the end of the season. I still don’t understand why we brought him in anyways.

October 13, 2006 10:52 AM | Link to this 35 - 7? Laughable… Typical NY sports fan. Look at how good our run defense is!!! No one can run on us. Lets break that down shall we?
Your lucky to be 2-2 and not 1-3. You will likely hold our us to 76 yards as well. thats 76 yards times 3. Dunn, Norwood, and Vick. With Vick passing for 165 ish to make the total about 380 yards against your D. Respectable normally but a 35-7 Victory it does not make. Try 23-17 as our offense actually finds the endzone twice this game. Good luck NY football Giants… your going to need it.

This team will not win make the playoffs this year. The Falcons under Jim Mora have a serious problem of making any type of defensive adjustment when teams find a chink in the amour. The line-backing core is invisible up field. All of their tackling is downfield after a substantial gain. The passing offense sucks! I always thought that a good running game sets up the passing game. NOT IN OUR CASE!!

Mike Vick cannot play the quarterback postion in this league. Shut down the falcons running game and they lose. It has been this way for three years. When will we see Schaub? Make Vick a running back or wide out.

Need to go with something like the Florida Gators with Tebow and Leak (Schaub & Vick). As for the rushing defense, don’t you think they were a bit tired? If the offense can’t sustain a drive of any type, this is what will become the norm.

Hearing the game ( I could not watch it) made me sick and now reading some of the comments here is making me more sick. When the entire offense plays like that the entire game—I would start with the coaching staff. But I would not stop there cause the coaches do not play. Vick is not perfect but he could have had a better day if our receivers would have done what they are being paid to do—catch the ball. It is going to be a long season if we cannot create a passing game. But we need a little help from those boys we are paying to catch the ball.

The falcons need to stop drafting from the borderlines of virginia tech, virginia, clemson, michigan. 2.Sorry about this but keith brooking must go.Stop trading players for players with injury prone history. 3.Atlanta local media must stop broadcasting atlanta teams so much.Alanta Falcons players must stop show boating everytime they pick up a first down. The Falcons Fans must put up a no show for only a couple of home games just to show the team that a fan is for real about wining rather if mike vick or matt shaub is at the QB position. 4. two weeks to prepare for a team like ny giants and the falcons come out and play like a high school team is pity. 5. Jim Mora needs to be more stronger to the players. Hartwell and abraham needs to go and apply for a 40 hour week job to get back to real football. 5.OWNERS need to put in their contract clauses about pay per play performice, because that is the only way to keep players focus the entire game.

Here are the facts: Vick would make a great RB, but he’s so-so as a QB. He’s already past his peak. But this is not all Vick’s fault. There is plenty of blame to spread around. There are offensive and defensive issues all around. And then, there are the coaching issues, primarily Knapp but Mora as well. There is a lot of work that needs to be done and it may take some rebuilding.
With all that said, I can’t believe some are suggesting one player would make it better, i.e., Randy Moss??? What have you been smoking?!? Moss is a team killer, just like TO. You might get a temporary boost from having him on the team, but all the aggravation and drama would destroy what camaraderie the team has left. Look at Minnesota, San Fran and Philly. Time will tell how the two of them will wreck Oakland and Dallas.

I have been supporting Vick for the past 5 years believing that every year is the year hes gonna finally become a better passer. But after todays game Im convinced Vick is not the answer. Its time to end this “experiment” and bring in a true pocket passer..ie Schaub! We are the most one dimensional team in the NFL. Defenses know to just stack the box and let Vick throw which they know will never happen. Im tired of his silly turnovers also that kill so many drives and constantly swing momentum back to the opposition. This is the time to trade Vick and get peak value for him or play him at a different position. And please get rid of Knapp also! Im sure even my grandmother could come up with more than the 4 plays he runs…dunn right, dunn left, dunn up the gut and short pass to crumpler.

People, it is time to stop defending Vick and to realize that he is not capable of leading this team to a championship. While he is a tremendous athlete, he is simply not an accurate enough passer to win the tough games. We need a quarterback who can consistently convert on third down passing situations, and who is capable of reading and beating blitzes.
There is no disputing the fact that there have been many dropped balls. More often than not, however, when we fail to convert in passing situations it is due to inaccurate throws by Vick. Vick certainly has his moments where he does things that no other quarterback in the history of the game is capable of doing. The benefit from such acts is often overshadowed unfortunately by his inability to make the routine plays on a consistent basis. The defense was gashed around the ends today. With the speed that we have at linebacker, it is inexcusable for us to get beat to the corner. This clearly demonstrates an ineffective defensive strategy and a complete lack of ability to adjust to the offense. The blame for these shortcomings rests predominantly with the Atlanta coaching staff. It is even more absurd to be so totally unprepared for the Giants offensive strategy when one considers the fact that we just came off our buy week. And when did they make it illegal to blitz and apply pressure on the quarterback? Apparently, Ed Donatell was the only defensive coordinator in the NFL to get that message from the front office. For God’s sake, please blitz the quarterback. Pierce

when has Vick EVER had the luzury of sitting back in the pocket for 5 seconds like Manning had on almost every time he passed? Almost every time Vick had about 2 seconds to try to pick out a receiver before he has to scramble for his life. The jury is still out on whether Vick will ever be a great QB. He is a freak of nature. An extremely talented athlete. I thought we had a decent D-line coming into this game. But time and time again they couldn’t get any penetration . What if our O-line was as good as the Giants, what could Vick do then? Obviously our wide-outs can’t catch. Who would Schaub throw to? the same recivers that drop passes. Who would block for a slower less mobile Schaub? the same O-Line that let Vick get sacked 6 or more times. No easy answers.

Let me help some of you dillusional clowns out. UGA is not even a top 50 ranked team this year, they had no business being in the top 25 and they will loose the majority of thier remaining games.
Vick is not and will never be a QB. For those of you who beleive differently there are only two reasonable explainations. You are extremly drunk while watching the games, or extremly stupid. No the wide receivers don’t suck. Yes they droped passes they should have caught but every WR drops some passes. You clowns like to focus on that because you are to afraid to admit that your 10 billion a year stiff is actually a stiff. When 2 out of 3 passes are bad passes and the third is a decent pass and it gets drops it’s easy to point to that blame.
Trade Vick… Or you will never have a consistantly winning team. Period..

Hey Yall:
Did you see that game. What a first half by the Falcons. Both teams were tagging it out real good. However, in the second half it appeared the Falcons offens went dead. There was no creative play calling and the receivers stunk up the place. There need to be some coordination with the receivers and their confidence when they see the ball comming their way. They do not appear to be attacking the ball. It looks like they are waiting to receive. When you look at New York receivers you saw a contrast difference in how they were attacking the ball when it was in the air. I guess a lot of this has to do with what their receiver coach is teaching them. I wonder what our recieving coach is teaching our receivers about really catching the ball from Vick. Man, we have to get this Sh-t together NOW! If not, we are going to be in a lot of trouble when teams stack up against us and Falcon receivers can’t break away from defensive backs. And when they do, they drop the Dang ball. By the way I know Roddy White is still rough around the ears, but damn man “Catch The Ball and Stop Giving defenses “Tip Drills”.
On the defensive side of the ball, though the Falcons stayed on the field too long because of the offense, I think they played pretty tough. Nevertheless, I have a problem with their coaches not picking up how the Giants running attack was conducting draw plays against the Falcons aggressive rush. It appears the Giants offinsive line would count to “one thousand” , with the Falcons commmiting, and then they would carry out their blocks. This allowed the defensive lineman to commit themselves too deep in the backfield wherein the Giants running backs just blasted by them, especially of the corners. If I saw this why did’nt the coaches. Come on guys, Do I have to speak for the players as Jeremy Shockey did against the Giants coaches. “You guys were out coached” on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
Let’s get better!!

Knapp is the problem. The Dan Reeves offense suited Vick well. I mean Mora inherited that Dan Reeves team and it went to the NFC title game. Since then we’ve got a sputtering offense, and a defense that seems happy to let opposing quarterbacks sit there all day.
The falcons offense is too predictable, and who they utilize on which down is too predictable. They’ve got to mix it up, or opposing teams are just going to start lining 9 guys up all the time. Except for Lelie none of the falcons recievers are worth covering more than man to man.
Donatell just needs to blitz more, and teach his defense how to tackle better. That’s an easy fix to the falcons, but Donatell refuses to see it.
But I just can’t say enough about how horrible Greg Knapp is doing with his play calling and personnel selection. The only way it could get worse is if they hired Terrell Owens from the Cowboys, and then made him the offensive coordinator. Terrell would be too busy admiring himself in the mirror to call plays, and Michael Vick would be thrown to the wolves worse than he is now.
Michael Vick isn’t the problem. The problem is the offense doesn’t fit the players, the play calling is bad as well as predictable, and the personnel getting the ball aren’t being mixed up enough.
Right now I forsee a 7-9 season.

The most reliable receiver, Finneran, was listed as 3, should have been 1, went down during preseason, which is how we got Lelie, by trading Duckett (mistake if you’re not going to use Lelie). Lelie should’ve been the number 1 receiver when he was acquired from Denver, but idiot Mora and his idiot staff are attempting to make Roddy White and Michael Jenkins, top receivers, when they should be practice squad receivers, if that. You can’t expect to have a high caliber passing game with White and Jenkins as 1 & 2. Lelie should get more touches at this point. Crumpler is inconsitant and hasn’t done much since his contract signing midseason last year. A T O or Randy Moss don’t seem all that bad now, they may have ego but they sure as hell will catch the ball.

BENCH Vick! Vick is NOT a pure passer! Trade Vick for Randy Moss and sign Schaub to an extension! If we do not resign Schaub, the Farve curse will continue except it will become the Schaub Curse. When Vick got hit late out of bounds, I went YES! I want his sorry butt off this team and traded somewhere else where he can run the ball instead of pass. QB are made to pass, NOT run! Hey Atlanta fans reading your blog site and find it very interesting how most of you are reluctant to give the Giants credit for beating up on your Falcons. You guys must not get out much down there. The only games you reference was the one bad game the Giants played against Seattle. Even though the Giants came back in the end scoring 30 points in the 4th Quarter. I guess you missed the Eagles game where the Giants came back and scored 24 4th Quarter points on them. I don’t have to speak on Atlanta just ask your defense. Tiki Barber ran for 185 yards on 26 carries. Your RB Dunn got 80 yards on that one lucky play and you were shut down after that. In all we put up over 400 yards total on your #2 Ranked Defense? Ouch…. I think you guys are a little bit overrated. But if you think you would be anywhere without Mike Vick you guys are nuts!! His receivers can’t catch and his line can’t block. We sacked him 7 times!! He’s forced to run and scramble for his life. The main reason he’s so inaccurate is because he’s forced to throw from the run!! But next time stop making excuses and give credit to the other team. The Giants started the year slow because they have the hardest schedule in the NFL but in the end I promise will have a better record then Atlanta!! Thanks for the victory guys!!

Okay, Okay, Okay. You guys want me to use my imagination then I will add a new wrinkle to the system and try to implement it this sunday. I will line up in the wishbone—-in shotgun (I will call it the “Shotbone”) , i will have dunn on one side and either norwood or griffin on the other side of Vick. I will have one tight end, algea of course and two wr’s, Lelie and Youngblood. We can either run the spread option to either side with dunn or noorwood. who ever side it is that does not get the ball will come under and lead block if it is handed off to Dunn or lead block if Vick keeps it. We can also run some misdirection plays, again using who does not get the hand off to lead block. out of this formtion, since we have a problem pass blocking, both Dunn or Norwood/Griffin can pick extra blitzers or just plain ole DT busting through. Have Algea chip block and hang out in the middle have Lelie take off and have Youngblood do a slant or a inside post. Vick could have time to throw deep and even have time to check down to the 3rd receiver if he likes. We can open up the passing then and after awhile can have a RB ease out into the flats.
Since we have so much talent I will try to get most of them on the field at the same time.
I’m sorry I have not been using my head, this is just too complicated.
I should have had Mike bootleg since we could not hold off the rush, i just wasn’t thinking.
I don’t know why we don’t use the screen more often if we are having trouble pass blocking, i just don’t understand how to teach the screen.
Everybody is blaming Mike but I will have to corale the blame. I’m not putting him in good position to make plays. I keep calling the same plays and it is becoming too obvious. Some of the teams in the league know my playbook more than me.
I am also having a tough time on adjusting to what they are doing on defense. Against the Giants I should have called a few pitch plays to Norwood and Dunn since we were letting the whole defense just shoot up the middle on every play. I also should have run a few slants to keep the LB’s back but I just can’t react too quick.
Just be patient with me

In the first half, Manning didn’t have much protection and his passer rating was ZERO.
In the second half, Manning had ALL DAY TO PASS and his rating improved.
Vick NEVER HAD PROTECTION ALL GAME yet some idiots enjoy bashing him. And Vick still put balls on guys hands only for them to drop it.
The receivers were incompetent. The Oline was incompetent (especially Lehr, and McClure) The coaches were incompetent for: Not using Lelie Playing safe on defense in the 2nd half Pumping up the ridiculous Offensive linemen nobody else would have
The coaches are squandering a lot of talent given to them, making a fool of Arthur Blank with the sales pitch about how you take steps back when you fire a coach.
Well check out New Orleans, St. Louis, Minnesota and other places to see how well first-year coaches can do when they are actually QUALIFIED and COMPETENT.
Our incompetents didn’t know Dez White was finished last year and now that can’t tell Shoddy Roddy White is a complete B-U-S-T. That makes them worse than BOTH of them.
Get Ken Whisenhunt down here and let Musgrave take over the offense NOW. Bench both “starting” WRs and Lehr. Start Lelie AND Youngblood and watch the catching improve and save this season.
Forget the draft status, put men on the field who will block, and catch. Don’t be afraid to be bold, coaches.

The worst thing that happened sunday was the defense. I know we are not going to pass complete 65% of our passes. But I really believe we have a #1 Defense. Obviously the saints for a half and the Giants for a half just outcouched us. We were in a vanilla 4-3 for 2 drives that pounded us. Eli had all day in the 2nd half. We have the players to play a whole lot more man defense. Anybody watch the Eagles play defense.
On Offense Vick is not going to be 60% completion man, but we need to stretch the field and he needs to be able to see over that pourous offensive line. Can you Say Shotgun and start passing let him decide when to run and quite faking handoffs that nobody is buying. They know we cant throw. we need 8-10 deepballs a game. Please use the shotgun alot more knapp. Ed, Blitz… Mora make it so….. Pittsburgs in town could be ugly….
