Polls and state divided on Tech, Georgia

Who has the best college football team in Georgia? It depends whom you ask.

Georgia Tech moved ahead of Georgia in the Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets are No. 13, three ahead of the Bulldogs. The USA Today coaches poll and the Harris Interactive polls, on the other hand, rank Georgia No. 14 and Tech No. 15.

Both teams are 5-1.

Which team do you think is better and desrves the higher ranking?

How can Georgia give up 51 points in a 51-33 loss to Tennessee and still be ranked ahead of Tech in the coaches’ and Harris polls?

I’m a sophomore at UGA, and honestly, I’d rank Tech ahead of us right now. They didn’t allow 51 points to be dropped on them at home. And their only loss was a hard fought game versus Notre Dame, not the stunning, embarassing loss the Dawgs put on last night. They’re not far behind Tech, but any Georgia fan would be stupid not to be worried about the Thanksgiving weekend matchup.

i agree, tech is better on both sides of the ball because, and its hard to believe, reggie ball has the advantage from the qb position. its hard to believe a team with so much talent (georgia) cannot execute better, oops, yes i can, look at the falcons and their coaches wasting all that talent also.

As a tech fan, even though we are ranked ahead of UGAg, you can’t really worry about that right now with Clemson and Miami coming up…split those games and we have a good chance of being in JAX….win both, and then we are defy in JAX and that’s the most important thing right now….

I remember another 51 point game…and I’m thinking that a few guys on the team do also. Maybe we can return the favor and better Tennesse’s spanking of the pups. I’m frankly kind of disappointed in all of the UGA fans falling off the bandwagon. Where’s the spirit? Calling for Richt to be canned, you gotta be kidding. Best thing to happen to UGA football since Walker. Tech is better now, let’s hope also on Sat after Thanksgiving.

While it was a great comeback for Tech and nice to be ranked so high, the game as a whole yesterday wasn’t a great statement for such a large jump. And I’ve been around long enough to know that Georgia finds ways to win games.

I have not fallen off the UGA bandwagon, I bleed Red and Black. But I can still objectively say that our team is young and not as good as it has been the last 4 or 5 years. It’s a rebuilding year. Give Stafford another year or two, and with that arm he could be the best QB in college football. And Mark Richt is a fantastic coach. He has brought so much to the program. I do think his and Willy Martinez’s game calling are far too conservative. But I will still cheer for the Dawgs, Richt, Tereshinski, Stafford, Massaquoi, and anyone who represents Georgia.

As bad as I hate to admit it, Georgia Tech is better than Georgia right now. And they may be better than us on November 25th. Who knows… Last night was truly electrical at the stadium — a great night for college football. But last night also taught us Dawgs some things — and we best put those things into perspective during the coming weeks. We did not play like a Top 10 team last night — nor did we against Colorado and Ole Miss. And with the exception of Vandy, Miss State and Kentucky, we have Auburn and Florida to look forward to BEFORE we play GT, OUCH

GT is playing well and deserves the ranking … that said, UGA is still in the race for the SECE title, and by the time we get to the NATS, we’ll be rockin again. We will beat GT as we almost always do - at least in the years that they’re not playing ineligible players.

By the Teck game, GA will have its house in order and more consistent quarterbacking than will ever take place with Reggie Ball at the helm. The doggies would probably be number one in the nation had they snared Johnson and he’s good enough to be the only problem GA will really need to worry about. The talent is better at GA and they should smack the jackettes, but this is the year where the stars might be in the proper alignmnet for a rare victory for the boys in yellow (a disgraceful team color, by the way). But, one Johnson doesn’t equal Swain and Meacham.

Yeah, Tech deserves it right now. I will never be off the bandwagon for the Dawgs at all. I went through the 90’s years all right so I think I can handle this. Richt simply needs to make staff changes but knowing him and his loyalty, he will not do a thing and continue to let loyalty trump talent. Love coach Richt but he has to make changes for us to take that jump to National Championship contender and not just SEC champs. As far as Tech, they have the best wide receiver in college football and an experienced veteran quarterback (main word being experienced)…and a better defensive coordinator than us so yeah, they deserve the ranking although I thought the old Tech was going to come back yesterday and have their normal mid-season collapse. Anyway, congratulations Tech and lets keep our heads up Dawgs. Got to build for the future.

To be honest, I wouldn’t even rank UGA in the top 25 right now. Miami and FSU are better products than UGA. They got stomped by Tenn at home, and nearly lost to a terrible Colorado team at home as well. Need I mention the near loss against a terrible Ole Miss team on the road. UGA is hurting because they no longer have David Greene to bail them out, or Shockley for that matter. Tech got screwed in the Notre Dame game, almost lost to Maryland yesterday, and against all odds won. Need I mention the game at Va Tech? I think Tech should be a top 10 team, and that’s not because I’m a homer. Name another 1 loss team that should be ranked higher, and it’s not the OVERRATED Irish. UGA will find their way into a bowl game, it just wont be the Sugar Bowl. Tech needs to find a way to beat the Tigers at Clemson, win their HOMECOMING game against Miami, and find a way to not let themselves down at a surging NC State. If they win the next three, they will be 10-1 heading into Athens. UNC and Duke will be nice warm ups before the Dogs get their shot. By that point UGA should be 8-3.(Losses to Florida and Auburn pending)

The problem with UGA is that we got out-coached again. This team looks like it did not even leave the locker room for the 2nd half. No adjustments, poor tackling, and pitiful play calling kills us again. Where was Lumpkin in the 2nd half? The defense was exhausted at the end. No wonder they gave up all those points! Mark it down- UGA will NEVER win a national championship as long as Richt is coach! NO killer instinct!

Well, my fall season starts with the first dawgie loss and in this one UT hung 51 wonderful points on em. Polls don’t always make much sense, but Tech has been somewhat more steady and improving while the dawgies have been so hapless as to almost lose to CU. Thousands of dawg fans stowed their dawgie paraphernalia in disgust last night as Tech moves up..

A five spot move up in the rankings wasn’t expected. Yes, maybe a couple, and we all knew UGA was going to drop most likely out of the top 15 with a loss as they had been barely hanging on (barely) to their previous ranking. ButI am still worried about GT special teams. I thought last week at VT may have been our breakthrough game to set us on course for the rest of the season with some confidence, but dang! We’ve all been waiting for a complete collapse on kick coverage, and I feel like Bell is like flipping a coin. But oh well—-a big jump in rankings, putting us right behind Clemson is a great statement—-setting up for ESPN Gameday anybody??

Both teams should be disappointed in their performances yesterday. The Dawgs not only couldnt stop the pass, but they let Tenn run all over them. Until they figure out the QB issue and figure out how to keep thier D off the field they are going to have problems. Tech is having some of the same problems. Mostly being consistency. They can run the ball better than they get credit for and they do have #21. But they are in the same boat as UGA. Both have tough games coming up. Right now it doesnt matter who is ranked where becuase when they meet the ranking will be much different. In my opinion it might as well be a toss up. But seeing as though Tech’s only loss was to ND and it was close, they have the edge. GO JACKETS

Anyone want Chan Gailey?

By jj is right

October 8, 2006 05:29 PM | Link to this

jj, right on the money. Never will we win a national championship as long as Richt is coaching the Dawgs. The true CMR showed himself when Uga went up 24-7 on Tenn and he went COMPLETELY conservative in play calling, like the game was already over. Like we had won the game in the 2nd quarter. Anyone who understands football saw it happen. I started screaming “NOOOOOOOOOO, the game is not over, you can’t stop now!) He has no “killer instinct.” What in the F$%@ is wrong with him. Every time Uga f#$%ed up or Tenn scoed a touchdown, ESPN would show CMR’s face and he looked like he was thinking about taking a nap.

And one comment about you sorry a#$ Techies, get over yourselves, you suck too. You finally win ONE game gainst a good opponent, Va Tech, and now you think you’re the new USC. You’re crazy. You barely won yesterday over the sorry Terps. Even though the Dawgs are aweful this year, I’d shut up about how you’re going to kill us, because as sorry as we are, your team is no better and you always find a way to lose to the Dawgs just like we find a way to lose to the Gators.

Its always flattering when some moron steals your blog ID, but he made it very clear he is a Mutt with his comments. You had to know the UGA fans would point out us squeaking by Maryland when they have done the same versus Ole Miss and a winless CU. You ever notice how they talk big about the bottom feeders in the SEC being good programs but play a tough schedule until a Wake Forest goes out and whacks Ole Miss, or USC whacks Arkansas. I’ll be the first to admit the ACC is down this year, but the SEC was definitely down last year and you didn’t hear the mutts pointing out that they won the SEC in a down year for that conference. I’ll be more than happy for the Jackets to win it all, conference down or not. The bottom line is we are on the rise and UGA may have to settle for a mediocre year or two before they start talking about winning a NC again. Their offensive line is going to be even worse next year and I don’t care who you have at QB or RB or receiver if you don’t have a line. Bring it on Mutts and I think it is absolutely laughable that on their fan blog they are complaining about UT fans not having any class. They can clearly recognize that because they pretty much wrote the book on it.

It always amazes me when Muttland brings up the ineligible player issue. Think back to 80’s when Muttland was exposed by you know who. Any and all victories by Muttland in their “heydey” should be removed from the record book.

But you know, they still have to compete in the SEC. So I guess allowances can be made.

lets face it the ACC and SEC are having down years. Ofcourse GA has much more talent than Tech does but Gailey has turned the play calling over to two coordinators where as Richt continues to meddle with the uninspired GA playcalling year after year after year with largely the same result.

On the defensive side of the ball, they were in a zone defense all night and got zero pressure on the QB, ofcourse the more talented QB’s like Ainge, Chris Leak, etc are going to find holes in a zone when they are only rushing 3.

And to the guys that have Quinten (sp?) Moses listed as a top 3 NFL pick…..please that guy played like it was spring practice.

Having said that….GA can still rebound but they gotta go back to Stafford. Tech will probably lose one more to either Mia or Clemson……the winner of GA vs. Tech is going to be playing in a nice bowl…..the loser is headed for Peach, Gator, or some other snoozer. :-S

JJ, ill tell you where Lumpkin was not in the 2nd half and that is in a D-lineman’s face laying a block on him. He had 2 critical missed blocks, one led to a batted pass and interception, the other was the punt block for a UT touchdown. That is unacceptable despite the great running.

I am a UGA alum and avid Dawg fan. As of today Tech deserves to be ranked higher than the Dawgs. Tech’s resume at this point in the season is better than UGA’s. However, I think that the Dawgs will prevail against Tech in November. I also think that the Dawgs will surprise some folks the rest of the way. The UT game will serve as a big learning experience for the Dawgs. But hopefully Tech and the rest of the SEC will just go ahead and write the Dawgs off. That will just make the last week of November and the first week of December that much more satisfying for Dawg fans!!

Tech was not that disappointing. Yeah, we all wanted a blowout but let’s not forget that the Fridge was coaching the other guys so Maryland was not going to be a pushover. They came out with their A-game. But like an experienced team that has learned from the past, Tech picked themselves up off the floor and came back swinging hard. Tech’s D kept them in the game and gave the O the spark they needed. On to the mutts now, did anyone else notice that for the thrid straight week UGAg’s offense only put up two TD’s? And the offense was completely shut down in the second half. All the rest of the scoring came from special teams. You cannot rely on two punt/kick-off returns for TD’s each week. With the lack of offensive production UGAg should be critically concerned. With only 13-14 points of offense the mutts should really be worrying about Vandy & UK too. It’s great to be a Yellow Jacket…..

This will not be the last loss either.Florida, Auburn and even Ga tech have the weapons to embarass this team. They may regroup and beat one of these with a great game, but the talent is not there. Remember all the seasons UGA outrecruited Florida and lost. The Dawgs have never been coached up since I can remember. Tech deserves to be above UGA,no doubt. Go ahead with all the haters and say Mark Richt and his staff should be fired. Why? Why do Dawg Fans believe they are truly National Championship Contenders? It has been almost three decades since the only one that anyone can remember. Get over yourselves and be happy with “good Seasons” and winning records. Those bowls in Tampa and Orlando are very nice. For the record, I am a lifetime DAWG fan and a UGA Alum.

At this point of the season, I must admit that the GA Bulldogs just are not that good. Our team lacks the pyhsical presence that we’ve had the past few seasons. Tech’s defense gets after people and they have a superstar with Johnson.

Don’t we have this dumb debate every year? Tech thinks that they can beat GA after we lose to an SEC team. Newsflash to all you Jackets: Just because the Dawgs lost to Tenn does not mean that Tech will beat them. Tech is no where near the team that Tenn, FL and Auburn are….They play in the weak ACC conference. Like I’ve said before, real men play in the SEC. So Tech, you guys keep sweating out the games with the likes of Maryland, NC State and Wake Forest, and the Dawgs will be taking on Florida & Auburn. See you in November.

Aside from UF and UT, no other school in the SEC has done anything this season worthy of a Top 25 ranking. The SEC is clearly a favored conference - based upon PAST reputation only. AU, LSU and UGA were only a MARGINAL team away from being exposed, as they all have been; yet, the sports writers still placed AU ahead of TECH. Let’s not even talk about the coaches poll with AU AND UGA ahead of TECH. But certainly TECH needs only to focus on BEATING CU right now.

We’ll settle this the good old fashioned way….on the field on Saturday after Thanksgiving. I’ll get crucified for this, but I actually hope UGA wins their games until then (but it won’t happen, you’ve got at least 2 loses PRIOR to the Tech loss). Would make the victory ever so much nicer. It just seems to me that UGA fans are having some memory lapses…would you really want to trade Richt for a chance at Donnan or Goff again? Hell, about 1/2 the Tech fans out there would gladly give you Chan Gailey in exchange if you want to trade. Tech is recruiting better ever year, with a HUGE recruiting class this year and with all the buzz about Calvin Johnson that’s going to improve for the next few years. Get over yourselves UGA, it’s time for some competition again. And don’t give me this garbage about the forfeited games. If UGA got slapped for all of the Harrick/Kemp/etc issues over the years you guys would have gotten the death penalty and the only football you’d be seeing in Athens would be on TV.

Right now UGA is reeling after getting their asses kicked at home and Tech just pulled off a clutch victory after demolishing VT on the road one week earlier. Even before UGA’s loss yesterday they weren’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard, barely beating Colorado at home, and completing less than 40% of their passes against Mississippi on the road. As of right now there is no reason why Tech shouldn’t be ranked higher. Does that mean Tech will beat UGA? Not necessarily… but as of right now Tech is definitely looking like the better team, and deserves the higher ranking.

Newsflash to all you Jackets: Just because the Dawgs lost to Tenn does not mean that Tech will beat them. Tech is no where near the team that Tenn, FL and Auburn are….They play in the weak ACC conference. Like I’ve said before, real men play in the SEC.

Uh, HELLO????? If memory serves, we spanked Auburn twice, and Wake Forest??? Well they handed it to Ole Miss unlike you pathetic mutts. Not bad for the 2nd worst team in the ACC.

The rankings are correct. Who has UGA beaten? Tech did just squeak by a 3-1 Maryland team but they dismantled VA Tech in Blacksburg. And Georgia really stuck it to a winless Colorado team (won by 1) and an equally awful Old Miss team (Won by 5). Let’s not forget that Tech’s lone loss of the season was by 4 to the then #2 ranked Fighting Irish while UGA was blown out at home by a lesser ranked opponent in Tennessee. The only reason that game looked close was because of the two long returns for touchdowns. The great scoring defense of UGA, which was only so because the combined record of their previous five opponents was 11-19, was blasted for 51 points. I’m sure that brought back some bad memories of Steve Spurrier at UF. And as for those calling for Richt’s job, you UGA fans don’t know what you’d be losing in Richt. When he leaves for Miami or FSU, whichever job opens up first, you’ll be back to a mediocre team in the SEC. Looking ahead to November, barring a terrible game by the Jackets, Tech should win easily. I’d like to see the bulldogs (legally) contain the best receiver in the game, Calvin Johnson. Go Jackets!

Let’s be realistic here: UGA is not an elite team. This much is true.

HOWEVER, if you honestly think that we dont have a chance in every game we play from here on out, including FLA and AUB, then you clearly are an imbecile.

For the supposed Dawg fans who have already thrown in the towel because of one loss, get another team. Your kind is NOT welcome.

We will compete every saturday. Last time i checked, we totally dominated the 1st half last night. Much like the 2nd half of the Sugar Bowl. It’s scary to think how much potential there is if the Dawgs would just put a complete game together. Hopefully they’ll do so in JAX.

Keep kicking the team while its down; it’ll only serve to add fuel to the fire.

And Techies, get a clue. We still own you, and the status quo will not change because of the ineptitude displayed in 1 half of football against a very good football team (which tech is not).

Before you guys start looking ahead to November, you might want to focus on getting by Clemson, Miami, and NCSU.

Go Dawgs.

I love how so many of you Dawgs write a bunch of smack about how if Tech played in the SEC they would get killed - I particularly love the references to “if Tech played Auburn.” Tech did play Auburn two of the last three years and won both of them. Oh… and who was the Quarterback, the GREAT Reggie Ball.

Each year Georgia out recruits Tech by a landslide… problem is that they don’t know what to do with all that talent. You can only play 11 guys at a time. Georgia has more quarterbacks than Carter has “liver pills” …. so what do these high school all americans do?…… they come to Georgia anyway to sit on the bench between the hedges. Does anyone know how Georgia does it year after year? … must be the pretty coeds and the “relaxed” academic standards. GO TECH! This is our year!

On the way we can stop in at Atlanta and pick up Herschel and that stiff Buck Belue to hand him the ball. We will win this south again soon! We will get our plantations back and have these boys picking cotton again between games. Trust me DAWG Fans…..slavery will be back before you win any title with this bunch. These UGA fans want us to wait until November to determine who is the best team in the state. Guess what… we will get that opportunity and I’m sure it will be an entertaining game. However, that is not the main question posed by this blog, namely, “Which team do you think deserves the higher ranking?” We’re talking about rankings right now, not what happens in November. I think an ample number of Dawg and Tech fans have posted that Tech deserves the higher ranking RIGHT NOW, and I would agree. As the season progresses the rankings will change to reflect the progress of both teams, and yes, bragging rights for the state will be established in November the way they should be… on the field. But for right now, Tech should be the higher ranked team and IS the higher ranked in the AP. Go Jackets!

Two things: One, all you Techies sure talk a lot of trash for a program that has not beaten UGA in about 15 years (remember that the last 3 wins were vacated by the NCAA).

Two, it’s time to scrap JT3 and plan for the future. I’m tired of hearing “You can’t win with a freshman QB” and “A freshman QB is worth 3 or 4 losses.” It’s looking like UGA will have about 3 losses, anyway. Let’s work on the future. I watched Arkansas win at Auburn with a freshman QB. I watched a freshman QB throw 2 TD passes for Florida against LSU yesterday afternoon. Let’s gather JT, JT2 and JT3 on the 50 yard line at half time next Saturday and officially thank them for their time and service to UGA—then, let’s cultivate a QB who will not allow the offense to get away from him when we are up 24-7 in a nationally televised game.

Good grief. All this talk about which conference is better is stupid. Several top teams in both conferences are disappointing, including UGA. Both conferences have several traditional weaklings. Wake Forest mad Ole Miss look awful but then UGA had all they could handle. What does all this mean? Nothing, except the only way to compare teams is on the field in heads up competition. Cheer up UGA fans. It’s just a game. Don’t get hurt falling off the wagon!

Wow. To say that Tech would win no more than two games in the SEC is absolutely absurd. Sure, losses to UT, UF, AU and maybe LSU, but aside from that the lousiness of the rest of the teams is rivaled by no other conference in the nation. Even though the ACC is in a down year, we still have many mediocre teams and also Clemson and Tech. Miami and Florida State will move up soon anyway, and I’m sure Miami will finally come around when it comes our time to play them.

After watching replays of some of Joe T’s completions early in the game I realized he didn’t even play well in the first half. The three big catches in the first half were all on bad throws where the receivers made great catches. Then 2 interceptions and a fumble later on.

Terrible game all around for him. Like I’ve said since before the season I’ll take a few losses with Stafford starting to get him ready for next year…but let’s get him ready by letting him start from here on out.

Plus it looks like we aren’t going to win any more with Joe T. starting than we would with Stafford starting…we may even win less. So let’s let Stafford take this team over from here on.

I’m going to say that Tech should be ranked above us. Our defense is not all that good. Tennessee’s offense manhandled us. Our offense has been completely stagnant. Tech has a ton of talent on offense and their defense is solid. They beat some good teams and they have lost only one to a really good team…which was still close. We have won against mediocre at best teams and we lost to a really good team, but we got destroyed. It doesn’t matter that Tech is ranked below us in the USA Today poll, if they beat Clemson, they’ll be ranked above us when we lose to Florida (Gators are looking solid). In all, rankings only matter at the end of the season. I’m pretty confident that Tech will be ranked above us anyways.

I’m going to REPEAT what others have said…U[sic]GA keeps talking about how FLA and AUB would kick our butts, etc…that we dont really have to compete in the ACC…om, did you notice that the War Eagles beat ya’lls sorry butts all the time…and…wait a minute…who beat Auburn the passed two years…yea…keep talking mutts.

You better believe that VTech would’ve smeared you guys all over the place.

Georgia Tech has a great program, we always do, we are just INCONSISTANT. That’s it. And in case you havent noticed, we dominate in quite a few other college sports and our grads will always beat you out for a job. Really, I get so tired of your bragging. We arent always #1, but we usually do really well by comparison. Since the only thing good coming out of Athens is football, I suggest you guys learn some humility. You will probably lose to Auburn or FL or both…we have to come up there this year and that will make it competitave…I really believe we can take ya’ll.

GO JACKETS!

My opinion….it doesn’t matter where the polls have either team right now.

The polls will do what they will do. For instance, next week Tech is off and UGA plays Vandy. UGA will take care of business and will likely jump back ahead in the AP poll. Does this really mean anything?

If the teams played next Saturday, which would win? Hypothetically, it appears that Tech is in a better position as a team right now (UGA’s unsettled QB situation is the most obvious question mark), but the game isn’t until late November. Who knows what twists will occur between now and then? UGA could solve the QB question and Tech could develop unforeseen problems.

Both teams are 5-1 with one tough home loss. Both teams have feasted on weak opponents early in the year. Tech has one “quality” road win against VT.

Both teams have tough games coming down the stretch. UGA has their normal gauntlet of Florida and a road game at Auburn before the Tech game. At worst, they should be 8-3 going into the final game (and maybe Auburn isn’t as tough as expected since they just got jacked up by Arkansas). Tech has a road game at Clemson and a home date with Miami. Otherwise, we’ve got road games against NCState and UNC and a home date with the Dukies. Could be two 8-3 teams going into the Big Game.

This could be the most evenly matched the teams have been in recent memory. UGA will have the big home field advantage. However, Tech will have had some big game road experience to fall back on (Blacksburg and Death Valley).

Great to have the last game of the year be a topic of debate for a change.

This post is ridiculous, its not the end of the year yet, so therefore who cares? The thing that every fan should be happy about is that both schools are in the Top 25 and representing GA. Let the bragging rights go to the winner at the end of the year. Go Dawgs, and Go Jackets!!! gonna make for one hell of a recruiting war if both teams can build some momentum. Not the worlds biggerst Dawg fan but hell as long as Tech is winning too, I can handle it.

George P LIAR - You need to find a QB, once you do, UGAG will be fine. Till then, you will continue to get pounded. Too bad Georgia is the 4th or 5th best team and could have 3-4 losses when Tech plays them with possibly only 1 or 2 losses.

Two fake field goals? Two of the stupidist calls i’ve ever seen at the flats. Third and 1 and you throw a pass to Johnson. Did you not notice the three defenders. Now you have to take every game as serious as you can. Tech depends on Ball,Johnson and Choice. This is not going to work guys. You need a tight end and a running back and another receiver.

You dawgs (now a small d.)need to take mister Johnson and set his stupid behind on the bench.Florida (I still believe Jacks is a home game for them) is going to be real tough. Auburn just got thier behinds beat like a red headed step child so the are out to prove something now. polls are basically for the fans and they only really count at year’s end. we will then find out if gt is better than uga - with the real test being in athens this year. that said, the ratings should help our (GT) recruiting.

the sad part about uga is that when gt gets a quality super star high school player like calvin, he becomes quality super star college player. for all those out there who have blogged that gt - especially chan - doesn’t improve players, the super high school stars that go to uga rarely (but sometimes) become super stars in college.

and don’t talk about reggie, since he was not picked by anybody to be a college qb, and certainly has shown he can do a quality job. not an all american by any means, but chan and pat nix have definitely made him into a respectable college qb.

Georgia showed how young a team they are Saturday night. With a 24-7 lead they thought Tennessee would lay down and the game was won. The Dawgs will be fine they will have some more growing pains this year. Georgia is no longer about being a good team but about a great program. This is the reloading year. Tech is much more experienced and should be ranked ahead of us. The sad part is that some team that plays in a two team conference unlike the SEC and ACC will will play for the National Championship. As a Tech fan I have to say that neither of the teams has looked great by any stretch of the imagination. Neither team is playing consistent football and both have a few more challenges ahead before they play each other. First of all, we (dawg fans most of all) have to remember that tech is in the acc. so until they beat anyone with near the talent the sec has( which they haven’t)then you tech fans can talk all that smack. you have ball as a qb so that gives us a advantage right there. He is the guy that threw the ball out of bounds on 4th down. he cracks under pressure. we just have to make sure we apply it instead of sitting back like we did the Tenn game. we have the guys to do it we just need martninez to unleash the dawgs so to speak. no need to get down on the dawgs we lost to a pretty good Tenn team and had the whooped in teh first half. we cut our own throats with the turnovers and conservative play calling on defense. i would have liked to have seen us blitz more. we had Tenn 4 and long from there own 5 or something and instead of putting pressure with the blitz we dropped 8 back and rushed three and gave ainge way too much time to find a hole in the secondary. unlike ball he is a good qb. Richt even took a little jab at martinez by saying he would have liked to have seen more pressure put on ainge. of course he didn’t call him out by name but as a team. the dawgs will be ready by the Ga tech..and Fla game….we need to just whoop on these next two teams and get us back some confidence. Tech just does not match up well with us at all..just doesn’t have the talent..they will fall in the rankings after this next game anyways and most likely end up 22 or 23 like always while UGA is sitting in the top 10…everyone will see by teh end of the year. every team has a bad game like this just have to get over it and move on…the dawgs will be fine and tech will end up with there 3 or four losses again. so dawg fans need to just relax and give these guys a chance to set things straight.

    go dawgs.

I tried to tell you folks that UGA would be down some this year, but y’all just laughed and said I was getting senile. Lucky y’all caught the Gamecocks before ol’ Steve made the change at QB, huh? The ‘Cocks are playing much better now. GT deserves to be rated higher than UGA right now, as they are playing very well and Calvin Johnson is trouble for any defense to handle. Their only loss was by four points to a great Notre Dame team. UGA has no chance to beat the Gators, and only a slight chance to beat Auburn on the road (is that Michael Johnson kid still playing for UGA?). GT may lose at Clemson, but they should win the rest of their games leading up to the big battle in Athens in November. Right now, I would have to give GT the nod in that game, but what do I know, right?

We don’t need to impress anybody, we just need to keep winning. We get to play Georgia so it’s a mute subject. Hell Georgia still can win the SEC, I’m glad they have some fight in them after the Tennessee game. I hope they clean the table and make the last game even more interesting. It could be the ACC Champs vs. the SEC Champs in Athens. I doubt it but the possibility is there. Auburn will beat Florida in Auburn this weekend. Then it is up to Georgia to beat Florida and Auburn. If they do they are in. Tech needs to beat Clemson which is just as hard, but if they do they are in. Tech can afford to lose one and make it Georgia has used their loss up. The SEC champ will have at least one loss.

GT could still stumble against Clemson or Miami, but stands an outside chance of actually tasting Orange this year; however, GT is playing better ball right and has a much better defense.

UGA’s loss to UT saturday night continues to affirm how the Dogs are consistently over-rated and fail to win the big games. UGA is the Michgan of the SEC.

Stick around, it only gets better when UGA travels to Jax to face those Gators from Gainesville. If UT scored 51 on you, just imagine what the Gators are going to do to you. Remember how some UGA fan popped off to Steve Spurrier in 1995 how no team ever scored more than 50 points between the hedges? UF scored 52, and now UT just scored 51. That’s gotta hurt!!

Rocky Top You’ll Always Be Home Sweet Home to Me!

The problem with Athens is that they give no respect, thus they get no respect. UGA is nothing short of a “football factory” where players plan 2-3 years of exposure for the NFL draft, then off they go to the pros without an education.

Not to worry, because all those rabid dog fans will be posting blogs defending UGA and attacking other schools, instead of taking a hard look at how medicore their program really is. Also, you need not worry about Mark Richt much longer, because Coker will retire at Miami after this season and the Mark will be heading Miami. Who knows, maybe Ray Goof of the Donnan of new era is still available.

You will see a different team after this weekend lost and for you GT fans Good season so far BUUT you better show up for Clemson and worry about the Dawgs later I can asure you one thing when it comes time for GA. and GT our Dawgs will be ready. I see 2 National Championship in the future for Georgia. Georgia will finish strong and make us PROUD. So grow up fans and take the lost sure it hurts but it hurts the player and coaches to .But to me the lost don’t hurt as bad as bad the mouthing our players and coaches, grow up or go fishing.

The ranking is correct. Period. The UGA defense has been suspect all year and the offense is about as bad. And, don’t say I’m jumping off the bandwagon because I’ve been one of the few on this board that have been saying this all along. CMR play-calling and handling of the quaterback situation leaves much to be desired from someone of his salary and supposedly greatness. The defense is horrible— 51 points is an embarrassment. It’s time for some soul-searching on the team and the coaching staff. I’m still waiting for all these great recruiting classes to show something on the field and the coaching staff to earn it’s high salaries.

    TO TECH FANS:

    Give me a BREAK…

You ALMOST lost to MARYLAND this weekend!

IF UGA dosen’t commit 4 TO’s in the 2nd half and a blocked point we win easy and nobody is talking about this.

UGA has 5 STRAIGHT top 10 finishes 3 SEC TITLE TRIPS and 2 SEC TITLES in the last 5 YEARS!

TECH has not beaten GEORGIA in what 6 or 7 YEARS!!!!!!!

I think it is laughable that you TECH people’s world revolves around what GEORGIA does when you are nothing more than an afterthought to UGA

Where will you TECHIES be next week when you lose to CLEMSON? and in 2 weeks after MISS ST and VANDY UGA is 7-1 and right back in the top 10?

NOW FAIRWEATHER DOG FANS: There is something to be said for being in a rebuilding year and still being in the chase for the SEC and ranked in the top 10-15….we could be like TENN was last year 5-6 and lost to vandy or like FLA the last 4 years at 8-5 every year!

UGA is quite capable of beating FLA AUB and GT but I am betting on a 10-2 9-3 season which is what you TECHIES can only dream about once every 5 or 6 years

AND TENN fans don’t talk too much we handed you that game and what makes me so aggravated at GT and TENN fans is that they only come out of the woodwork when their teams win—-only then do they talk and fly their car flags and wear their hats!

UGA will be fine—-they have a program that makes GT fans burn with ENVY and that’s all this is!

Who cares if Georgia won 2 SEC titles in the past five years? Most of the players from those two teams are long gone. Coach Richt is a good coach and a nice guy, but has no intensity. You can never tell by looking at him if their winning or losing. He’ll never win a national championship. As far as putting Matthew Stafford in, he’s not even the best freshman quarterback in the SEC. You have two freshman at Arkansas and Florida who are helping win games against quality SEC schools, while Stafford has to be pulled against lowly Colorado, and would have been dismantled if he would’ve started against Tennessee. Richt’s coaching is also going to hurt recruiting, after six games he can’t even decide who his quarterback or running back is. What blue chip prospect wants to go to a school if they don’t know if they will get playing time? Looking forward to the Florida game, maybe we can put up 52 points. Not a Yellow Jacket fan, but they are a much better team this year than Georgia. Hope they kick some butt in Athens!

I am a Tech and Bulldog fan. I am proud of both teams and I am definitely awaiting the end of season matchup with excitement.

It was most embarrassing to see Georgia loose like they did to Tennessee Saturday night, but I was night surprised. So much emphasis has been placed on the talents of the quarterbacks at Georgia. I have not been overly empressed by either of the three, but I would give the advantage to Mr. T (experience does count). But this is what gets me with the offensive coordinator(s):What wrong with the back field? Is there a reason why Andre Ware did not touch the ball at all Saturday? There are four backs and could not figure out how to run them more to take advantage of the clock and to at least move the ball? Why does it have to be Lumpkin, Thomas, Southerland and the after thought Ware? All four of these guys have done Georgia well and you forget about them?! Give me a break!

I would rather see you use up the game clock running the ball down the field, than allow the quarterbacks continue to through interception after interception.

At least when Reggie throws the ball correctly, he has receivers who are willig to sacrafice themselves and go get it. Georgia you had better step up and play your talent to when the games you should. Stop waiting until these guys are Seniors and them allow them to play!!

When are the supposed readers of the AJC blogs going to start answering the questions posed? We were asked:

Which team do you think is better and deserves the higher ranking?

How can Georgia give up 51 points in a 51-33 loss to Tennessee and still be ranked ahead of Tech in the coaches’ and Harris polls?

    My answers:

GA Tech deserves to be ranked higher than UGA because of strength of schedule, and the only way UGA can be ranked ahead of GA Tech in the Coaches’ and Harris polls is that they haven’t been following college football this year and are basing their rankings on past years.

All this talk about the inelligible players Tech used is funny, its not like Joe H or dez or kelly campbell were inelligible, Tech still would have beaten the dawgs anyway, bringing up the inelligible players is a dawg fans way of excusing themselves for sucking and blowing the games, Remember Godsey running down the sidelines in Athens for a TD? that was great im sure everybody thought the option was gone once hamiliton left.

I agree on possible losses to Fla and Auburn. However,

The dawgs won’t lose to Tech. If they come into the game with three losses and Tech is favored then the Dawgs will have the extra motivation of knocking off a higher ranked team.

The main two reasons Tech will lose are 1) Chan Gailey has had these guys on a psychotic roller coaster since he’s been there and he won’t have an adequate game plan 2) Reggie Ball has neither the talent or brains to beat the Dawgs.

Remember this post, cause it’s gonna happen.

Chase gets my nomination for moron of the year award. Georgia controls it’s own destiny? If Georgia and Tennessee won out, then Tennessee would go to the SEC title game since they destroyed Georgia (or Florida could go if they win out). Sounds to me like Georgia needs some help. As far as beating chests, Uga still celebrates their national championship from 1980. Give me a break! If Georgia can talk smack about Florida after we have humiliated them for the past 15 years, then Tech can surely talk smack about Uga. As far as Tennessee, they’ve beaten you 2 of the last 3 years, so they own you now too. How many Daddy’s can one football program have?

    Difference between UGA and TECH

For UGA a 9-3 or 8-4 year = a bad or down year

For Tech a 9-3 or 8-4 year = one of their best seasons ever and a great year

Also the HARRIS and COACH’s polls are the only ones that matter in the BCS—-the AP poll no longer figures in the system—-it is worthless

Any TECH fan that says he wouldn’t trade the success of our program for theirs is a LIAR!

Whats bad is I am a GRAD student at UGA but I actually pull for TECH when they aren’t playing GEORGIA but the way you TECHIES spit venom on everything about UGA it makes me want to pull for you to lose every game

I have lived in GEORGIA my whole life and I wish that every year UGA and TECH could be undefeated when they play but you TECHIES think that just because we lose to someone like TENN we are going to lose to you is funny and sad

Classic Georgia Tech. Even now, while they have so much to play for in their sorry conference, they are obsessed only with UGA. How about this- Actually bring a team that will COMPETE to athens in november, and then start talking about whether or not GT is as good as UGA. Make sure you bring that little shiot-talking quarterback of yours with you- he always rises to the occassion against the dawgs.

UGA is ranked higher in the Coaches poll because they know UGA is a better team and they don’t need until they play each other to figure that out. we had a bad 2nd half and couldn’t recover. put that behind us and we move on now. i have seen both of these teams play and tech is still not up to par with UGA. simple as that. Tech hasn’t shown me anything other than calvin johnson makes reggie look half way decent. ball is not better than Joe cox or stafford right now..he just happens to be the only qb. poor tech..so until they beat UGA tech can’t say anything other than Tenn beat us 51-33. tech, even when they beat us those times long ago couldn’t move the ball. so to ansewer the question. UGA should be ranked higher and the coaches have it right. we all know that the writers don’t know dick about sports anyways. just all a numbers game for them. coaches know football and know that uga is the better team…TEAM being very key here. tech has one player on offence and a good def. coord. that is it. will need ore that than that to beat UGA. like maybe 5 fumbles on the uga 5 yard line…they will not move the ball on us otherwise.

SORRY GO GATORS but you are wrong!

IF UGA wins out they will have beaten two top ten teams in FLA and AUB and if UGA FLA and TENN finish with the same record the tiebreaker is the higher ranking which UGA would have if they run out the Sked. It happened just like that a couple of years ago when TENN beat FLA and UGA beat TENN and lost to FLA Fla of course controls their destiny too but if UGA beats them UGA does so bothe of those teams have control over what happens and TENN doesn’t

And you never heard me mention FLA b/c they have owned UGA the same way UGA has owned TECH so I don’t run my mouth about it the same way TECH shouldn’t run theirs

But come on man how can a team be your “Daddy” when you have beaten them 5 out of 7 GET REAL on that one!

Thanks for setting it straight Go Gator, and be sure to take it to them in Jax. By the way, can someone help Chase or SCDAWG take the wheels off their double-wide this weekend? They also have to cram for their Jim Harrick exams, thus improiving the poor graduation rate.

By the way, I know for a fact that Maryland would have taken it to you just like UT did this weekend. If you little doggies ever want to step over into the ACC and play Miami, FSU, VT, or GT let us know. The ACC is weaker than the SEC, but the SEC is getting weaker by the moment. Oh yeal, count the aggregate national titles form the ACC in the last 10 years as compared to the SEC and you might be surprised….

Your futile attempts at f’ball comments don’t work due to your losing streak against the Dawgs. What is it now??? 5 years??? By the way, that GA gymnastics comment is getting old. Come up with some new material. The Gymn Dogs being successful are just one more example of how superior GA’s athletic program is when compared to Tech’s. I mean look at your stadium. I played high school football in a stadium almost that size. Also, I’d like to see the SAT scores of all of Tech’s “smart” f’ball players. Can’t tell me all those idiots are engineers. GT seems like the better team right now, but UGA has WAY more talent.

If Tech beats Clemson next week, then I’ll start to believe. But right now they look like just the same old Tech team—find a way to beat a Top 10 team on their home field, then look terrible against a vastly inferior opponent.

As for UGA, I can’t figure out why they look so lost. A team with that many blue-chip recruits shouldn’t look that bad.

Tech has played two Top 10 teams (ranking at the time). Played one to within 4 points and soundly beat the other. UGA has played no Top 10 teams, 1 Top 20 team and was soundly….I mean soundly defeated! Facts are that UGA should not be ranked in the Top 25! Florida and UT are back in front of the DAWGS.

    By Go Gators

    October 9, 2006 12:35 PM | Link to this

Granted the Gators haven’t lived up to expectations the last five years. However, our expectations are a little higher than Uga. Uga seems to love bragging about SEC titles, when in a couple of years nobody will remember who won the SEC title that year, except Chase, who will still have the championship license plate on his 1979 Pinto. We expect to win national championships, not just SEC titles. An SEC title without a national championship doesn’t mean a whole lot. Ask Georgia players how much the SEC titles meant to them once they started selling their championship rings. And if I remember correctly, Florida and Tennessee have each won national titles in the past 10 years, while Uga hasn’t won in 25 years. As far as Tennessee, winning 5 of the last 7 means nothing if you’ve lost 2 of the last 3 years(both in Athens). Breaking news, Coach Richt decided not to open next year with William and Mary, their defense looks too good. They’ve settled on Parkview High School (who have been listed as a 3 point favorite).

I am not a fan of UGA or Tech, but it was great to see the “#1” scoring defense get punched right in the face by the Vols. Let’s get real here, UGA’s schedule has been very weak up to Saturday’s game. They beat down a W.KY team that Roswell High could beat at home, beat a so so Carolina team on the road, beat down a weak UAB at home, played horrible vs a horrible Colorado team at home and barely won, and went on the road and played bad again vs Ole Miss and won. UGA is not a very good team this year. (spare me the excuses) They will lose to FL, AUB, TECH, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Vandy gives them a run for their money. So UGA fans just need to suck it up and hope there is a spot open for them in the Liberty Bowl or something like that.

Go Gators we have alot in common, and thanks for bringing those DAWG fans up to the surface. Agnes Scott rounds out game 3.

Yes, 25 years ago, and still living in the past. If not for Belue to Lindsay on a last minute pass, there would be no title, but they got lucky and a victory over ND 17-10. I will give them that much.

By the way, Chase has a 1973 Red and Black Pacer. The horn barks when engaged. Also, you better have 911 on speed dial when they come to Jax, they are going to need it. Run it up as big as you can. I am talking a UF on-side kick with 51 seconds remaining with UF 60 UGA 3..YEAL BABY!!

This is to address the guy that brought up SAT scores. Do you really believe that Tech athletes, especially football and basketball, have the same entrance standards as the general student population. You are kidding yourself. Want proof. Listen to that idiot on the local sports radio show in the afternoon that went to Tech. He is stumped by any caller that uses more than a 10 year old vocabulary. How far a school bends is not the issue. If you bend the acceptance requirements at all, it is tainted. I do agreee that they should all be the same requirements. I wouldn’t even care if they made all schools mirror their general populations standards. UGA would not suffer because of the high quality of football athletes this state produces. .

We have two very average teams at this point causing all of this emotion. Tech is going to lose to Clemson, Miami and maybe NC State along with a who knows game with UGA. The Dodgs have played average at best against terrible competition. The only time they have plyed a decent team in two years they got beat! Both programs are very lucky to be 5-1. Who cares who’s ranked higher at the mid-point of the season with the strongest games still to be played. UGA is over-ranked based upon historical rankings from the AP and the Coach’s. After huge beatings and not winning a single game so far against a team with a winning record other than UAB why are you talking smack???? At Tech we still have to overcome Chan Gaily. Richt is at best only as good as Gaily according to talent and success. If Tech gets past Clemson and Miami then they are far better than UGA. By the way who said UGA’s talent is better than Techs. UGA fans? Imagine that from a bunch of homers.

I see this blog is full of Pulitzer winners.

Most true Dawg fans know that the current rankings are correct for now. (And 90% of Dawgs on this board admit it, so where’s the supposed arrogance?)

I think most true Tech fans realize that they have very important games coming up and aren’t too concerned with the current rankings.

As for the UGA-Tech series, we’ve beaten Tech for a number of seasons now, so we still hold the upper hand. Yes, the same way Florida owns us. Just facts.

I hope Tech plays well and it’s another good game between UGA & Tech. It’s good for the state to have two top teams. (If small states like Alabama can produce enough football talent for four decent D-1 programs, the ninth largest state in the U.S should at least have two good teams at that level.) But alas, I hope UGA wins again.

Georgias only problem is that they only want to play a half of a game. That is unfortunate when their opponent plays a whole game. Georgia played a good first half against Tenn. with both the offense and the defense playing well. Then they retired. Why they did not come out running in the second half after both Lumpkin and Southerland ran so well in the first half, I dont know. But I do know it cost them the ball game!

We all knew that UT had a good chance of beating us this year, but who would have thought that our D would have played so soft? Poor, poor plan of attack by Martinez - UT knew exactly what to expect and they planned acccordingly. It’s not rocket science. Furthermore, who would have predicted that Ainge’s jersey would have been as clean & white at the end of the game as it was during the pre-game warmups? I could accept losing a hard-fought game to UT during a re-building year, but to lay down and die like this was simply embarrassing.

I am so grateful to the person who corrected my earlier response on the correct Ware that it isn’t even significant to mention their name here.

Why didn’t you comment on what the issue: Why does Georgia figure out how to use the four backs they have to their advantage? It doesn’t matter if they always obtain the most recruits in the state or SEC, when the guys do not really play until they are Seniors. All the hoopla around the quarterbacks, I’m not impressed by either or them.

At least in the early 80’s when Herschel Walker was playing, Vince Dooley ran him until either he tired or the defense tired. Georgia is not doing that. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even know who Southerland was until Saturday night and he was the only person catching. At this point, I would rather see a three back offense and tell the quarterback to just hand it off and get out of the way.

When it came to the defense… I guess Ainge was invisible, but I saw him. They couldn’t even get a man on him. Give me a break. The defense was worn out, then stayed on the field too long. There were some other players who could have played. I want Georgia to use their talent to their best. Yes this is a rebuilding year, but don’t be predictable.

Tech has some issues, as well, (like figure out how to get the ball to the receivers more),but there are improvements made each game. No one needs to be talking about a National Championship with either of these teams, they are simply not complete.

This is not a bash of either team, I will always cheer of them both. But Georgia needs to realize that you talent this year is in the backfield and you are not taking advantage of it.

Let’s go DAWGS! Let’s go JACKETS! The goals is to win your Division championship and win your bowl game. Stop bashing each other, this is neither teams year; just enjoy the excitement.

…and having won 5 of 7 against UT, we may not solely own them anymore, but we still maintain a majority stake. We do, however, own 100% of Neyland Stadium (3-0).

By the way, “Ramble On!” seems to have a big chip on his shoulder. I guess he’s not a happy person. I hope he finds help. (But yes, Odell might be high and he probably got his weed from that big-time pot dealer / Tech football player.)

Ramble On!, I’m not mad at all. In fact if anyone should be mad, it should be you. I would be mad if my team lost to their instate rival for 5 straight years. Thanks for “forgiving” me for calling you a dork as my afternoon hinged upon your forgiveness. I’m curious, how do you figure that GA Tech has better athletes than GA? We’ve beaten you in f’ball the past 5 years. Hell, we even beat you in baseball & basketball. Also, you’re dead wrong when saying that GA Tech recruits better than GA. Were do you get that fact from? GA tech has consistently recruited horrible the past 5 years compared to GA. GA has had a top 10 recruiting class every year CMR has been there. Tech never even gets in the top 25. Maybe Odell is high, but he makes alot more money than you, and has a bigger house. Judging by the way you talk about Tech, I’m inclined to ask you if you’re high.

As a lifelong Tech fan, I couldn’t care less about whether Tech is ranked about UGA right now. The only thing the rankings are good for are positioning for bowl games and banter for sports talk, which I guess this is. When you have a head-to-head match with someone which we fortunately do, it will be decided on the field. I am about tired of this “not legally beaten” sour grapes. I suppose that the decade of wins that UGA enjoyed prior to Jan Kemp’s finally outing the football program should be forfeited by the dogs. I seem to recall a certain National Championship that was won during that period…do any of you UGA faithful want to return that one? So just cool it with the “legal wins bull.”

As it turns out, it appears that under our current disciplinary status (reduced scholarships) Chan and the Jackets seem to be doing more with less than the dogs. Can’t believe that I seem to be defending Chan. I was one that was calling for his head when Brain extended his contract on the way out the door. Guess he is doing pretty good after all…and if the recruiting class lives up to expectation…continuing to do more with less!

    GO JACKETS!

I think Tech might be ranked a liittle too high w/ moving up 3 spots from people dropping, but they probably deserve to ranked ahead of UGA for now (& the AP definitely more reputable than the Coaches & Harris Polls). Tech still has higher ranked Clemson, Miami, & improved NC State in the upcoming weeks though and just barely beat Maryland… while UGA still has Florida that owns them & Auburn before getting to Tech, so it’s a little premature to be arguing & celebrating over who has the higher ranking.

GT, That is the same way that I feel about the season. GT and UGA could both be heading into that game with one loss each or three loses each, easily could go either way. Both potentially playing for conference championships.

Only from some of you GT fans can you come on here running smack ABOUT OUR LOSS. That’s the way it usually works. Classy real classy. Better worry about your own house. Hope you win out until the end of November. Don’t think one bad quarter and four turnovers against UT won’t be dealt with and corrections made.

The rankings have a way of usually working themselves out and come November it will be decided ON THE FIELD. So you guys are right about one thing RUN YOUR SMACK NOW because after November those GT WHENMILLS will turning againing!!!!

I’m new to this Country. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching college football this Fall. It’s great to see the excitement around the community when it comes to college football.

My observations thus far: Is UGA in the Division 1 or Divison 1AA? Their opponents seem pretty wimpy (Western Ky, UAB, Mississippi, Vandy, Colo.).

I believe Ga. Tech is a national football program having played Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and other top Div. 1 Schools.

    I love this Country!

Palmetto State Dawg brings up a good point. The dawgs have a top ten recruiting class every year and GT’s are horrible. They win the last 2 games BARELY, according to him; we can’t even compete…hmmmm. You haven’t been watching the early commitments for this year either, don’t look, you won’t like what you see.

Now if you had half of the brain you are claiming to have, then you would have seen this beat down coming to you from UT, I did.

I don’t really care about the polls in the middle of the season. There are so many must win games left for both teams (Clemson and Miami for Tech, Auburn and Florida for UGA) that the polls right now mean almost nothing. Granted, an Orange Bowl appearance for us would be huge (especially since last year we played our bowl on a baseball field with both teams standing on the same sideline), but I want to see UGA finish just as well because win or lose, a better opponent makes Tech look better. I was glad to see Tech was given its due in the polls, but I don’t want UGA to fall either. It all comes down to how good your opponents are, and lower rankings for UGA mean lower bowl appearances for Tech.

Just gotta share with Tech fans one of the most sublime pleasures in life: listening the Ga bulldog hotline show on AM750 after a UGA loss.

Caller:”I jus’luv the Dawgs, Coach, but I jus’ don’ unnerstan’ how we can lose to team like Vanderbilt, Coach. I think it’s time fo a NEW HEAD COACH!” CLICK

Goff:”…Well, thank you for the call, Cletus. I’m proud of our team and we gave a hunnert and ten percent and when we give a hunnert an ten percent, I’m proud of this team. Next caller, Larry”

Caller: :”I jus’luv the Dawgs, Coach, but, damn coach, when are we gonna get an offensive coordinator in here.

Donnen:”A Coordinator? A Coordinator? Cletus, why you don’t you stop by my office and tell me face to face why we need a Coordinator?” (I swear that happened)

Caller: :”I jus’luv the Dawgs, Coach, but when are we gonna jus’ run the ball? This is the ES EE CEE, Coach.

Richt:”Well, Cletus, thank you for your call and your support for the Bulldogs. I could explain why we throw the ball, but you wouldn’t understand because you’re not an offensive genius from FSU like me and my Lord Jesus Christ didn’t give you enough brain cells to understand. Furthermore, those cells you do have are awash in alcohol and disappearing at an alarming rate, much like your soul will disappear into hell unless you repent. Next sinner, er, next caller, Larry.”

At times, it has been my only consolation, given the mediocre (at best) state of Tech football the last few years.

Ramble ON!, you really are another delusional Tech fan. You want to talk recruiting? OK….according to Rivals.com, Tech has a total of 14 commitments, while 5 of those are 4-star players. GA has a total of 18 commitments, while 12 of those are 4-star players. We’ll probably get a couple of 5 stars before it’s all over with as well. So you tell me, who is recruiting better? It’s all facts….Go look it up yourself. GA’s recruiting class ranked in the top 5 least year. Was Tech’s even in the top 25? I like what I see when I compare the two teams recruiting efforts.

I actually did see this loss coming as I don’t think this is the Dawgs’ year. That means that we probably won’t return back to the Dome, but we should still beat Tech. We can beat Tech during a bad year. The SEC is a very tough conference, unlike the ACC. Obviously Mark Richt is doing something right at GA. He has won more games this century than any other SEC coach, won 3 SEC East titles, and 2 SEC titles. Those are facts, and go look them up if you doubt me. What title has Tech won lately? Not a damn one….Why wouldn’t I come on this blog? Just because GA lost to Tenn doesn’t mean that I don’t like talking a little smack to Techies like yourself.

Background: I’m Ga born and raised, my dad was born in TENN. I have always thought that GA fans are arrogant, stuck up, their crap don’t stink, etc. Sorry UGA friends! lol….but I’m for the VOLS, living in GA!

Anyway, Sat. night, I got 4 calls from UGA fans during the first half, basically after every score by GA…they were teasing this TENN Vol fan, and screaming “How ‘bout them Dawgs” over my answering maching (I NEVER answer the phone during a game). My husband, a GA fan, did answer it twice and was laughing with them, but knew it was p** me off so he said “it ain’t over yet”.

All during the first half, I kept telling my hubby that GA was just too hyper! Too jacked up, like on an Adrenaline Rush….and that they HAD to come down sometime. I predicted they would be “worn out” by the 2nd half. I WAS RIGHT. I won’t recap, but 51-33!!!! My lord, that was a stomping in their own house!

Needless to say, after the game, the appropriate time to brag on your team, neither of my UGA friends who placed their calls to me in the first half would answer their phones! The GA fans always prove me right….I hate arrogance. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!

Man this is SOOO funny. I prefer GT to the Poodles any day. And my brother-in-law is probably still mad about his overrated Dogs getting their noses smacked but good. Hav to remember to wiggle my Vols keychain at him next time I see him.

ANYWAY, the only reason I’m posting is…..how does it feel for Dog Nation and Jacketdom to know that probably 3 or 4 Big East teams could beat either one or both of them….WVU (hate to admit it), Louisville (with a BACKUP QB), Rutgers, and Pitt…..all could beat GT and I’m pretty sure at least 3 of em could beat UGA…..cause they can put points on the board and not lay down in the 2nd half.

Hmm maybe football really wasn’t invented in the South after all.

The question is “who should be ranked higher?” I say, “who cares?” Now, I believe at this point in time that Tech should be ranked higher, but who really cares. The way this season has gone for Tech and UGA, heck - most of the Top 20, nothing can be chalked up to who won by how much. Ohio State, USC and Florida (not to mention a host of others) have all had squeky wins, who cares. That is why the games are played. I personally hope both teams win out going into the final game of the season, would make it that much more meaningful.

Tech needs to FOCUS on Clemson and UGA needs to FOCUS on Vandy…….period !!!

I dont particularly care. The polls are all hype. The fact is Tech has always found a way to choke against teams they SHOULD beat. If Tech is favored in the game this year, put ALL your money on UGA.

UF is the only offense UGA faces this year of the caliber of UTs. Auburn got dominated at home by ARKANSAS!?!?! Tech needed 4th quarter heroics to beat a Maryland team that got pantsed by West Virginia.

So go ahead, Tech. Buy into the pollster hype. Reality will set in soon enough.

    TO: Randy Blalock

This is to answer your question about the Defensive backs laying off the Tennesse receivers. Its because of the Defensive Coordinator- Willie Martinez who seems to have NO clue as to when he should be making adjustments to what the other team’s offense is doing.

While I admit, Coach Richt has done a Great Job overall in rescuing our program from the Goff and Donnan years. The second half was embarrashing and both Coach Richt and Coach Martinez should be ashamed of themselves. Coach Richt for going away from the run when we were running it down their throats at will and continuing to throw the football. This caused our defense to be on the field the entire second half and by throwing the football on almost every down this caused those 3 interceptions, one fumble and one blocked punt which led to 31 of Tennessee’s 37 second half points. From what I saw and had said previously to this game- if the Dawgs had played 4 quarters of inspired football instead of the 2 we would have won. I just hope Coach Richt, his staff and players learn and grow from this.

As for rankings GT should be ranked higher at this point as they have been the more consistent and better looking football team. As for all the smack being said both team’s fans, the teams need to focus on their next opponent and play them one at a time. In closing to those who hate the Dawgs and those who hate the Jackets lighten up a little. I’m just glad both teams could be playing for their respective Conference Championships the first week in December and that speaks volumes to the quality of football in the State of Georgia

BadgerDawg, you said I was mad that I didn’t get accepted to UGA? U mean “Redneck Country”? Why would I go there. Athens is for Rednecks my friend. I’d rather be in ATLANTA anyday! GO GSU EAGLES & JACKETS! And Gators for that matter! lol

We (UGA) are such wannabees! How many times do we have to get slapped down (ie Groundhog Day) before we get the picture?

Tech will always be the underdog in this in-state rivalry because too many people are brainwashed as little kids into liking UGA, Tech could win 3 national titles in a row and still wouldnt be as popular as UGA, but hey somebody has to stand up and support the underdog Tech=Rocky, UGA=The big tall Russian well guess what this is our year to shine, its funny to see puppy fans get so upset when they even slightly sense that the guys in Atlanta might have a good year, well guess what you cant keep somebody down forever, GOLD AND WHITE FOR LIFE!!!!!

To all Fla.& Tenn. fans. We know you have a fairly good team this year. But I am trying to remember when either one of you were SEC champs last? Help me out here. RECENT? And the current SEC champs are WHO ? Times have changed , the championship trophy comes thru LSU, AUB ,OR GA. now. Sorry!!!

The dawg,s remind me of rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers as a kid from NJ. The Dodgers were a great team until they played the Yankees. Just like the Dawg’s they folded year after year. The scary thing is that 50 years later the Dodgers have not changed much. Will the Dawg’s be the same.

M/R is a wonderful man but will he ever be able to beat the good teams consistently? after 5 years I don’t think so.

Hey “Better then you” HAHA. You MUST be a UT fan. Its uh…Better THAN you. Anyway. How bout 5 for the last 7? How bout 3 in a row in Knoxville (UGA Home away from home)? While we are on the hows…How does it feel to always be no 2? Looks like UF will see to that again this year. Since you obviously cant spell, here is a hint:

You cant spell Citrus without UT!!!

    hahahahahaha

And Russo, how are you saying the Dawgs choke? wait…SEC Champion Dawgs choke? This is a rebuiling year for us, not UT. Joe T. being hurt the last month instead of on the field hurts, but as he gets gametime, we will get better.

    GO DAWGS!!!!

Mike, To people with even a 6th grade education, it’s Dogs, not Dawgs. ‘Course Mikey, you are evidently a product of the Ga public educational system, and if not for curves in the grading of tests, you’d be a f-. In blogs, it’s not a spelling test, for if it were, one may argue that you can’t spell CHOKE without UGA

Been watching Ga. football for 56 years—saturdays decisions by the great one Mark Richt were absurb—-the two freshmen who saved his butt the last two games were cast aside for the worst QB in the history of Ga. football.—the only thing Joe T. has done in his career is call snaps on the punt team—he is a joke—no talent so slow and his passes are the dream of any defensive back.—-god help the dawgs because Mark Richt with his 2million paycheck has sold out to the big money alums at Ga.—-this season will be a disaster because of his decisions on offense—get off the defense they had to play most of the game—

Teams will recruit replacements for rising 3rd year players, not seniors. So, what happened to UGA’s Soph or Junior QB? There was Greene, Shockley and was the plan to give Joe the start after Shock? Which was the red-shirt, Stafford or Cox? An answer from somebody saves me from research. Thx

Ramble ON!, the fact of the matter is that you never had a point. You’re just wanting to bash the Dawgs after we lost to a SEC opponent not your beloved Jackets. I thought our receivers actually caught the ball pretty well the other night. What has GA Tech done since your shared national championship? Nothing, period.

Gen Neyland, Cox was the redshirt, and probably they thought he was the QB of the future. This time last year, Stafford was playing high school f’ball in Texas.

At this point you have to give the edge to GT as for all the UGAG people on the high get out of your tunnel vision and wake up for a change. Yes GT squeaked by a 3-1 Maryland team but the last time I checked UGA beat a 0-4 Colorado team 14-13 (the same team that got spanked by a Div. II school)and at the same time beat an Ole Miss team that got waxed by Wake oh but wait beat Ole Miss only because of the help they got for those who know Football and watched the game know what I am talking about ( holding on the blocked punt or should I say the phantom hold to ensure UGAG gets the win ) So to all the UGAG band wagon fans get a life.

You got torched for 51 on the so called number 1 scoring D and yes you scored 33 not due to offense as all know. At this time this should not even be a question that is asked. GT is the superior team as for UGAG that was just the first of at least 4 losses this season.

Georgia is a great team but will never reach their potential if Mark Richt doesnt start RUNNING THE BALL!!!!! Kregg Lumpkin and Thomas Brown would’ve both had 100yd games and Joe T. wouldn’t have 3 turnovers if they just RAN THE BALL. YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE LESS THAN 40 RUSH ATTEMPTS VERSUS TENNESSEE…someone will see that error and beat Tennessee by RUNNING THE BALL ….that said, if UGA does this they will finish the regular season 10-2, because they still won’t beat TECH

It’s understandable why you fleabags have this insane arrogance about football. It’s the only thing the mutts can claim they done better than GT for the last 5 years, but ignorance is not bliss my flea infested 2nd best football team in the state of Georgia. We are ranked higher in most polls; our students have more class/intelligence, and make more money upon graduation. I’m trying to remain humble and not make the mutt nation to upset, but you keep squawking about the SEC and this and that, and the fact is you got waxed last week at home and you still don’t have a QB. You’re over rated, and GT is going to beat down all four or five of the QB’s the mutts bring out. Good luck against Vanderbilt, you are going to need it. After all they are the second best team you have played this year so far after 6 games, which is a joke, just like your QB situation. Now I’ve got to get some work done today, so don’t make me mad.

General Neyland, if you’re still out there…you’re SEC, is half as good as you wish it was, hell Alabama barely beat DUKE. If that’s not proof enough, than just wait till we spank the fleabags, just like we did you the last time we played UT (look it up) and Auburn.

GTGIRL25…take over for me will you, I’m tired of banging my head against the wall. THWG

WE ARE JUST BETTER…get use to it.

Presently GT is playing a much more cohesive game than is UGA. If the Bulldogs can get their act together (which the latest game should wake them up a little), then UGA can be a better team than Tech (though as a Tech fan I’d rather see Tech wipe the floor with the Bulldogs). If UGA can learn from its mistakes then I has a chance of walking away with a National Title.

Ramble ON!, can I have a hit of what you’re smoking? The ACC is better than the SEC? Yeah right! Tech struggled against Maryland, and we have whipped you little insects 5 years in a row. The Dawgs cannot control who is on their schedule as that is up to the AD. If you had half the brain that you claim to have, then you would know that. You haven’t beat GA in 5 years, we lead the overall series by a comfy margin, your stadium holds like 50,000 and the guy to girl ratio at Tech is 10:1. Need I say more? Ramble ON!, do you recall last year when you Teckies were talking all this smack leading up to the GA-Ga Tech game? GA had just lost 2 heartbreakers to UF & Auburn, and somehow that made Tech think that they could beat GA. You were playing at home, and you were destined to beat GA. What happened? We shut Calvin down, and stunned the Dorks in their own house. You don’t have a prayer in Athens this Nov. Keep on dreaming Techie at your job that pays you $250,000 per year. To listen to you guys tell it, that is the starting salary for Tech grads. Gimme a break!

Palmetto State Dawg—-sounds like your smoking some of Odell’s stuff already. You better get ready for Vandy, because, from what I’ve seen these last 3 weeks, you mutts are going down. Wouldn’t that be great!!!We wouldn’t have to listen to your PhD “greg” aka “the man” or you insane delusions of grandeur.

I really think Vandy is going to beat you fleabags, you don’t have a QB and your over-rated (still) fleabags are still sucking their thumbs…whaaaa, whaaaa!!!!! Good Lord, what happens then, will Sonny declare a day of morning, raise the flag at half mask?

I am a Dawg Fan and will continue to be one regardless of the losses. However I do not believe we will reach our true potential with the offensive and defensive play calling from our sideline. I love Coach Richt because of the high morals he instills in these young men and the great recruiting job he has done. However his play calling is atrocious, I can see us throwing the Ball around if we had a proven QB, but since David Greene or DJ is not behind center why the hell are we not running the ball more. Secondly we should all know that the defence was not nearly as good as advertised, you could have seen in in the Carolina game despite the shutout, and later in games against Colorado and Mississippi. I do not believe we will win with Willie Martinez as DC, but will CMR be a man enough to can his friend? that is to be seen. I am sorry to say this, but Tech has done better with less than we have done with plenty. My reason for saying so is that Tech does not recruit all the Star Recruits we get at UGA, but somehow manages to get so much out of them. I am not upset that we lost, becuase we cannot win them all, but I am upset at how we lost and how we performed. It will not be surprising if Florida and Auburn put up more than 50pts on us. Willie Martinez lack of imagination on defence was noticeable to me from we played Florida last year, and I have been telling my friends since that he has no clue. We will get outcoached against Fla, Aub and GT.

I agree with Palmetto Dawg. I am a die hard Tech fan, but some GT fans don’t need to be putting lipstick on the pig. UGA has owned us since the millenium. We have no promises that we will win this year. Even if we DO beat them, it doesn’t change that they have owned us lately. If we win this year, we need to keep improving our program for years to come. UGA DOES have plenty of talent. They are young and under Richt they will come to play once matured. We are having a great season thus far, but show some class and act like we have been here before.

Joshua, How do you think GT has felt the past few seasons. Gailey is a great guy and is great for State football. The alumni love the guy. Play calling is another subject. He DOES bring in good personell. You have to pick your battles. Not all head coaches need to call the plays. Just remember that Richt started coaching FSU after their NC. All of FSU;s success had nothing to do with playcalling. It is called GREAT recruiting and stout defense. Those are two things that UGA has done well. I ate UGA, but Richtcan still win many football games for you guys. I feel the same for CCGailey. This year is our’s for pride though. I will shoot myself if we lose to you this year.

Ramble ON!, Tech beat Troy by 15 pts, and you squeeked by Maryland. You had better worry about Clemson. I live in South Carolina, and they have a very good team this year. They’re going to wax you Bugs in Death Valley.

As for Vandy, whatever dude. If Vandy beats us, I will personally mail you a check for $100. You need to listen to your boy, GOLDEN CHILD. He is a realistic Tech fan.

I think Golden Child is you incognito…nice try though. As far as Vandy is concerned, I couldn’t sleep knowing you paid me a full weeks worth of work. Just make sure you beat them better than 24-7 that would mean you couldn’t beat Wake Forest-ha ha. I don’t UGA is man enough to beat Vanderbilt.

Isn’t Clemson from the pathetic ACC?

Don’t get to full of yourself, I’m fully aware of what Clemson can do, but, they we’re going to do that last time we played there, and would you like for me to remind you what happened?

Lastly, I’m from GT where 2 + 2 = 4 and figured Palmetto probably meant you were from SC. I understand, being a dawg, you have to explain these kinds of things.

Let’s just put an end to this and admit it!!! GT is just better. No matter how you slice it or dice it.

Thanks for a great effort Joe. I wonder if Sonny will have a cow about that headline???????

Ramble ON!, the only thing that Ga Tech is betten than GA at is holding weekly Star Trek conventions. Your grammar leaves a lot to be desired from a person that claims to have a degree from such an esteemed institution like GA Tech, but then again you’re probably just good with numbers. Sorry, I can’t take credit for GOLDEN CHILD’S comments. Yes, Clemson is from the weak ACC, but they will still beat you Nerds, and make you look even worse. So you’re from GA Tech? I didn’t realize that GA Tech is a state or town? Spare me your ridiculous diatribes of how in your delusional mind, that GA Tech is better than GA in football. It boggles my mind how you can say that after we have beaten you 5 straight years. Maybe you’ll shut up after we beat you 6 straight, but by then you’ll be punch drunk with losses….Boo Hoo.

With the recruiting that uga gets, they will always get high rankings in the preseason polls. Georgia Tech has to “earn” their way up throughout the season. Although I think that TECH would beat the pants off uga if they were to play right now, it should be a good game when they do play at the of the season….

What boggles my mind Ramble ON! is that you Tech Dorks continue to talk smack after you have taken a beating from the Dawgs 5 straight years. Your QB Ball has a hurt leg, so sorry to hear that. I hope Clemson breaks it in half. Georgia OWNS Ga Tech, and those are the facts.

Probably one of the nicest cities on the Eastern seaboard, but your rube a* wouldn’t know anything about that. I guess we can’t all be from Tennessee. A state that is land locked (I doubt you know what that word means), has a coon hound as their mascot and has guy dressed as Davey Crockett on the sidelines. I mean, PhatPhil, we can’t all get our corn from a jar like you. Very creative with the comment about the brother & sister. I’m glad to see that your GED education is paying off for you. I’m a coach of 21 years and a Georgia fan for 40 years. Being from the state of Georgia, Georgia Tech is my 2nd favorite team. Which team is the better of the two? Georgia has the better athletes, their weakness is that the coaches staff does not play the game or call plays to take advantage of the teams strengths. Offensive play calling: You would think, and I’m sure some of Georgia’s staff is thinking the same thing, Scoring 33 points is good, the offensive is clicking “Not”. Georgia’s Offensive allowed TN to score at moments in the the game where if Georgia had continued their drive and scored or at worth got off a punt, it would have been a different feel of urgency for both teams. Georgia’s strength is its three good running backs and its big offensive line. A team uses its strength to wear down an oppondent and to get itself out of bad situations. Example, When you rush for 5yds on a first down inside your 30 yard line, and your strength is running ball not passing, On 2nd down you should be rushing again. There are times to do play action to keep a team off balance, get close to the 50. Make them stop your running attack with 3 good back they will get tire before the backs do. Defense the secondary spends more time watching the quarterback and not knowing where the receivers are on the field. I noticed that the backer and and secondary had their eyes on the QB and had no idea that the receivers where coming into the open areas.

Please pass this on to the UGA staff I know they get alot of armchair advice this is from a different view that they maybe be able to share with their players.
