Tech-Troy postgame forum
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Yellow Jackets had their hands full with Troy on Saturday, but dominated the fourth quarter and wore down the Trojans to win 35-20.
It was their last non-conference game before Thursday’s ACC opener against Virginia. Reggie Ball set a Tech single-game record with 130 rushing yards and the Jackets defense made big plays late.
What are your thoughts on the game? On how Ball played? Is Tech ready for the ACC? What excites you, and worries you the most, as conference games begin?

APB is out for Calvin Johnson. Can Conrad, I mean Patrick Nix find him?

After the Thur night game, Tech should be 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the ACC. Although I hate ND, I did wish they would have beaten Michigan - it would have made Tech look better.
Tech did what they had to do against Troy - mission accomplished.

The first half wasn’t as pretty as it should have been, and the fluke interception in the end zone in the 2nd half made it look a lot closer than it was, but over all mission accomplished.
Jackets were never in trouble and everyone played a sound game. Let’s move on to VA and kick their butt.

Solid effort Jackets! Nice job, Reggie — setting school record for single game QB rushing and 299 yds total offense (rushing + passing). Stay focused Jackets and keep it going!

That moral victory against Notre Dame is not looking to good now bee fans. Humpty Dumpty and brady quinn were exposed for the frauds that they were all along. Now maybe the Notre Dame hype machine will die down again this season. I wouldn’t be suprised if Michigan State kicked their a* next weekend.

Glad to see that Patrick Nix is finally calling the plays by himself. It was a great turnaround in the second half. Also did you see how well Bennett threw the ball. Boy he is tall and has a great left arm. I love my Jackets. I sure hope they beat those pesky Dwags.

Saturdays football games proved one thing! The media and the TV talking heads have, once again made Notre Dame the most overrated football team in history. It happens every year. Just like the local media, makes Geoergia, the most overrated team in the south. I predict ND will finish no better than 7-4, And Georgia will be no better.

Here I am, battered and bruised - congrats to Tech for beating the teams they are supposed to; I’ll be on the flats Thursday night to see Tech take on UVA. My beloved Irish, mistake after mistake after mistake. I think some credit/blame goes to the great ND schedulers who, for whatever reason just seem incapable of putting a directional school (NE SE LA State of the Blind, etc.), a walkover (Vandy, Duke, etc), or something on the early part of the schedule. I think the boys were just drained after the emotional game against Tech and all the build up for Penn State (most expensive ticket in the country that weekend, including Texas Ohio State). Oh well, Tech, keep on rolling.

Funky white boy, how much more wimpier can ND schedule get with GT and a way overated Penn State team? Hell they only play one more ranked team the rest of the season! Let them wussies come down here and play an SEC schedule one time and then you can cry about the schedule makers.

morris,
The SEC is one of the most over rated football conferences in the nation. Only stupid SEC fans believe it to be tough.
Check out any strength of conference rankings at the end of any season/year and you will find the SEC to average around #4 in the nation. But, I know, you stupid SEC fans don’t believe in facts or data or numbers, you only go by emotion.

I guess thats why 5 different SEC schools have won the national championship since 1980, the conference is overated. I think you need to check your facts before you run your mouth and look stupid. Also check the bowl records of SEC schools the last ten years champ.

WOW is the ACC overrated…Let’s break this down…The Top 15 by conference 1. SEC - 5 2. Big 10 - 3 T3. Big East - 2 T3. PAC 10 - 2 T5. Big 12 - 1 T5. Notre Dame T5. ACC - 1
And this is after our Top 4 played each other…

I think they made some improvements. I am tired of hearing about Calvin, especially when he drops one that hits him in the hands. We need to keep spreading the ball, and moving the ball. If coaches watch film and all they see us doing is throwing to Calvin, then they don’t have much to prepare for. Execution is what we want, and I don’t care how it gets done. I think Tech is underrated, Clemson is overrated, and Georgia is overrated. Just cause Georgia blows out some Highschool programs they earn the right to be in the top 10?

I think the game went pretty well. The play calls improved in the second half. I liked how we utilized more players. The kicking game still concerns me. The punting is inconsistent and the kickoffs are all over the place. Kickoff coverage is still not much better. Evans did the best when he returned the punts, straight forward and not sideways. The secondary blew some coverages, and we got lucky when Troy missed some wide open passes. I think the season outlook continues to improve as we improve. We’ll have to wait and see how we play in the ACC first. The ACC teams are looking a little weak right now. Miami got blown out, NC State looks bad along with North Carolina, Duke, and Virginia. I think the biggest tests will come against Virginia Tech and maybe Clemson. Georgia is overrated as usual. Can’t wait to see how they match up when they play some better teams. Go Jackets!

I wish they could work the middle of the field more with reggie but his height I believe limits that. I give him props for being a scrappy competitor and keeping the job for 4 years. I believe it is time to stop bashing and see how hard this kid has worked for this program and remember none of us are perfect.

I want to thank the biased ajc writers for (Mark Bradley) for being critical of Reggie Ball’s progress maybe this week he will put Calvin down and Calvin will have 250 recieving yards against the Cavs. Also I want thank the biased writers for keeping the pressure on uga’s next Heisman hopeful “Matthew Stafford” , the kid has talent but lets get real his statistics are not that impressive considering the teams he has played against so far, lets wait & see what he does against legit teams that have real talent like (UT,FLA,Auburn & Tech). And all this talk about who has the best conference, lets wait until the end of the season to see who is still standing after teams have played conference opponents, until then I will keep my prunning shears ready for those damn ugly bushes surrounding that ugly stadium in athens in November….go JACKETS !!!!!

morris - actually point well taken, unless you are talking about UGA, who has played NO ONE and won’t play anyone until October 7th (Tennessee) then two cupcakes, then Florida, then a cupcake (Kentucky) then Auburn and Georgia Tech. Just remember Morris, when ND is rolling on Army and UGA is losing to Auburn… it’s better to drop game #3 than game #10 for the final rankings.

The ACC is embarrassingly bad. Not sure what happened to NCSt, and UVA. UNC is slipping (again). Bellwethers FSU and Miami are fading. VaTech is untested, but probably the only legit top10 team in the conf. Clemson, BC, Tech round out the middle, all of them beatable. GaTech vs. VaTech is a pretty big game for the Jackets…if Tech finally plays to its potential (ie: doesn’t drop a gimme this year); this game could decide who goes to the ACC Championship from the Coastal div.
SEC is stout. It pains me to write it, because the avg SEC fanatic certain doesn’t need his ego stroked, but it’s true. And don’t underestimate Stafford. The kid is stout. Barnhart, I don’t think there will be a BCS controversy involving the SEC, because I don’t see any of the SEC teams going undefeated. It’s too tough.
Also, how many of the Tech fans were pulling for Boss Ross to stick it to aTm Sat night? Man I was hoping Army would win, not just for Ross, but just to see Army get some kudos. Most of those guys will be in Iraq or Afghanistan within a few years. Fran is a huge disappointment for aTm. I’m sure the aTm power brokers and alumi are about at the end of their rope. Maybe the Aggies can pick up Chuck Amato after he gets the boot. Or Bunting. Or Cocker. None of them could do worse.
