Congrats! Hopefully Marc Pisciotta, Keith Grunewald, Mike Hilton or some of the others from the ‘83 team will be in touch for a reunion of the two teams. I played with them at Walton H.S. in Marietta and they still live here. Keith (keith@careersports.com) should definitely be in touch with Kyle, as he is an agent for Career Sports (Smoltz is one of his clients). I played with or against ten of the players from the ‘83 team and my Virginia team (West Springfield, who were recent VA state champs in ‘03 and ‘05) lost in State in ‘83 to Vienna (by 1 run), who was eliminated by Marietta in the region final (by 1 run). In ‘84, I was on the VA State Champs team but lost our 2nd game in Region (single elimination then!). The winner, Florida, was Jason Varitek’s team.
The best of 7,500 teams, right here in GA again! Fantastic!

Congratulations guys! I was born and raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, (the home of Little League Baseball) and moved to the Atlanta area about 6 years ago. I was so excited to see a team from Georgia attend the Little World Series—and win! Most people around here only talk about Dizzy Dean baseball.
It’s such an experience to attend the Little League games, trade pins, meet other plays, play ball, and slide down the hill. Unfortunately, since our schools start back so early my kids don’t get to see the games in person any longer (they were too young to remember the games before we moved here).
Kudos to you all for a job well done! You’ll have so many memories to share with others.

Congratulations on an excellent job well done. This took a lot of hard work, pain, and knowhow to reach this goal. What a beautiful way to end a season. Our Atlanta Braves couldn’t do what y’all did. I don’t know how many years your Columbus, Georgia team has been around, but you did get the “World Series” title in less time than the Atlanta Braves. They did it once in the 45 years they have been in Atlanta. Your Columbus team can do it again and again with the same style as you have recently completed. Again, congratulations on a well done season.

Congrats,
However baseball at the youth league levels play year round and it is very expensive to compete, not only dealing with the high gas prices(travel)equipment cost, you are also dealing with the infrastructure. If this game is played 10 more times Japan wins decisively because they are faster, more skilled and have much better athletes as evidence in the world baseball classic. If little league baseball was more accessible, the team with the most cans would win decisively, Puerto Ricans, Latin Americans and African Americans. Look at MLB the game is COMPLETELY dominated by players of color Bonds, A-ROD, Pulos, Manny, Big Poppy, Jeter, Martinez, to name a few. It’s terribly unfortuate but so many of these players get to the miners and realize they cannot compete. College baseball is dominated by Eruopean American players but how often does that transcend to successful MBL players. I seen it happen time and time again little privileged Johnny dominates the private school basketball leagues and begs daddy to allow him play AAU basketball and there the career ends and Johnnie dedicates himself to baseball. Now I expect to be ridiculed but Johnny’s father knows I’m EXACTLY RIGHT. Don’t worry about it Johnny dad will still speak to the board of directors and get you a high paying job when you finish undergrad…….Best of luck next year Columbus, enjoy the celebration/parade…

My brother and I are native Columbusites now living elsewhere, but while on vacation in San Francisco, we watched with pride as the Boys from Columbus took on the world. As excited as we were for the victory over Japan, the sportsmanship that the Columbus team demonstrated to their opponents will be lasting memory for me of the title game. They displayed a maturity beyond their years. As we say in the South, “they were raised right!” Congratulations to you and your families.
