Bulldogs name starting QB

Georgia coach Mark Richt named senior Joe Tereshinski his starting quarterback Sunday night.

What do you think of his decision?

Do you like having the maturity of a fifth-year senior behind center?

Do you think he will only hold the job until one of the youngsters is ready, or do you think Tereshinski will make the most of his chance and keep the job?

With two QB heisman trophy winners, QB with most wins in college football history, a runner up Heisman, twice ranked #1 NCAA offense, two national championships and DJ Shockley. I don’t think anyone should second guess any quarterback decision Mark Richt makes.

I like it fine. He’s a Bulldog and will do his best. If that ain’t good enough Coach Richt will handle it. We can’t change it by blogging so no point in trying to create a needless controversy.

GATA Joe T, GATA.

I’m not really all that surprised with Joe T being #1, but Joe C being #2 caught me off guard. Anyone who saw the Gday game knew Cox could move the ball down the field, but struggled in the red zone. I guess Cox has made progress in that area. Anyway, Go Dawgs!!!

Sounds like a total bobby cox move to me.. Simply enough, JT doesn’t know how to look off a receiver.. you figure after 5 years he’d figure that out. Stafford will be in by USC.

Glad it’s done with…for now. As long as Joe T doesn’t get rattled i think he will do fine. It’s not the QBs that worry me, it’s the O Line. If Joe T doesn’t get protection and time, it doesn’t matter if it’s Joe C, Blake or Stafford…they would all suffer. I do miss DJ…maybe Logan can bring some of the scramble back!

JTIII will be fine. He has earned the right to start. If he can get through the south carolina game with a win, he will start all year. Stafford needs a redshirt year to get ready. I have complete confidence in CMR’s decision.

I’m not surprised he chose Joe T to start the season, however, I spoke with a former AP voter out here in Dallas, and here is a direct quote: “If Stafford does not finish the season as Georgia’s starter, this will be the worst season under the Richt era.” In my opinion, Joe T is the QB who is most ready to start right now. He won’t be the #1 option by midseason.

It’s not a matter of second-guessing Richt-he made the right decision… rather many had hoped that one of the young guys would really excel and beat out the rather marginal JT3. The fact that JT3 is the best UGA has is disappointing.

I was dissapointed that Stafford did not have a better showing Friday. I don’t think coach Richt had any other decision to make. I’d love to see Stafford play, but maybe a redshirt is the best thing-esp if Joe Cox does well. I don’t see Barnes being an eventual player in this mix.

I think this was the worst kept secret in the Bulldog world. I am impressed that Joe won the starting job, but I am equally surprised that the true freshman phenom is caught so far down in the depth chart as to prevent him from anything close to meaningful playing time this season unless one of the 2 deep either self-destructs or one/both are injured.

Pretty much guarantees a redshirt for Stafford, something I did not want to see.

Joe T took on all comers and kept his job. Time will tell, as MR implys, if he’ll stay #1. Cox also caught me off guard but more power to him. Stafford? Damn if I know. He can’t play him unless he blows his RS. Is he going to RS him? I really hope not but no guessing from me because I really don’t know what he has in mind. Co-3? Does that doom his chance to play? I’m listening to what you Dawgs think. Joe T, so far, has done the job.

Joe Tereshinski will be fine. I truly believe the competition has forced him to be a better player. Other teams are going to force us to throw the football. Eight men in the box and pressure will be a common sight this year. However, in order for JTIII to be successful he must be willing to burn a few balls and not force a turnover. We have a great kicking game and the defense should be as stout as ever and they will make some plays for us, as they have in the past five years, and I think we will be fine. Plus,Coach Mark Richt prays over his decisions and I trust anyone who prays over their life and profession. With that said, we should be in great hands! Can’t wait!

I’m not going to second guess CRM. CRM has always been a straight shooter. Honestly, Joe T is experienced, scrappy, and a leader. He has done everything in his power to help this team since he arrived. No one gave Greene, Pollock, or many others any credit until CRM put them on the field. I remember when Green was boood in the clemson game because everyone wanted Shockley. CRM is doing what is best for our team. Go DAWGS!!

I do not doubt Richt one bit. But placing Stafford as a co-3 with Barnes is a wonder to me. I think Cox should be the backup for now, I agree. I see problems though just like at UF. I guarantee you that Leak will be looking over his shoulder at Tebow all year and that will be a problem. Leak will be looking at one potential problem….JoeT3 will be looking at three. I see problems ahead for my beloved Dawgs just because of this alone!

Oh yeah, and another thing. Please don’t compare DJ Shockley GT 04 game to Tereshinski 05 UF game. Those were different circumstances. Just wanted to get that out there because I keeping hearing this and its hilarious.

Joe T is a good call, red-shirt Stafford, and name a 2-3 between Cox and Barnes. It was mentioned Cox moves the ball up and down the field good but has red-zone problems, tell me when UGA didn’t have red-zone problems in the last five years. Run a full house backfield with Brown, Lumpkin, and Ware all in the game at the same time in both a T and a wishbone. UF didn’t beat us last year because Joe T was QB, they won because they kept two backs in to protect CL. WV kicked our buts because our D looked like the bad news bears. If the D puts us in a hole and the OL can’t protect the QB or open holes for the backs it doesn’t matter who the QB is.

By sandeedawg

August 20, 2006 11:51 PM | Link to this

This is a running team this year, and a rebuilding year. if Joe T can be as accurate as David Greene, then we’ll win 8 maybe 9. The biggest concern is the offensive line, really without the O line any QB is going to struggle. I’m hopeful the backs can get around the ends, and Joe T can hit them coming out of the backfield on quick slants. He may not have much time. Expect a lot of blitz’s from SC, and plain old defense from Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, and possibly Tech.

Richt knows qb’s, that goes without saying, but it’s scary to think jt3, a 5th year senior, took this long to “win” the job. If we’re playing to not lose, I’d rather take the growing pains with the freshman. Still, jt3 is a great kid and hopefully will have everyone’s support.

Joe T. is probably the most ready to play at this moment. He’ll do fine as long as the defense keeps the team in the game. Hopefully the running game gets going all season to take some pressure off of the new Georgia QB.

Over all is the whole program.I think Mark learned at FSU how to keep kids around and just keep reloading.I think I remember Cox saying he would transfer if he was the odd man out.If you guys blast me out I want argue back alot. But I do believe FSU 15 years in the top rankings every year was no accident.I believe if freshmen was phenoms they played as fresh, but other wise at times I think coaches held back players that was a little better as fresh and sophs and those players were willing to wait there turn.Because as a coach you know kids dont want to come to a place where true fresh is loaded at a position and playing alot. And there is a fine line where you need to play guys early to show you will because the better players out of school does worry about early playing time.I totally trust CMR that he knows how to keep a program on top and the way you do that is to keep around real good players and stay away from playing fresh unless you have too.I do beleive Stafford is one of those players tho that will be hard to keep off the field as the year wears on and he learns the systym!Go Dogs!!!!!!!

Richt apparently has the best view here to make the right decision for right now. We need to support his decision and root on the Dogs now, no matter who the QB is. If there will be a time to go with someone else, then we need to be there too. Remember, these young men chose to go to Georgia and stay to play for the Dogs.

We are fortunate that we start the season with W.Kentucky this year. Richt gets more time to evaluate in a true game. Joe T. will start this game. Let’s start with that game by pulling for him too. He is definitely a Bulldog!

Not too many other teams are blessed with having too much talent at QB to be confused about who to go with. Richt will go with who he believes will lead the team the best to win. We do not want to be cheering for a QB change. We want to be cheering for the Red and Black to win. Gooo Dogs!!!

Anyone who thinks that Joe T is a good choice didn’t see the game he finished against Arkansas, a game he almost single-handedly lost late in the game, or the pathetic display of athleticism he showed against the Gators; a game I am convinced we would have won had DJ been able to play. Richt is just being cautious for the time being and giving his runner-up time to get in some more reps before we really start to play anyone. I suspect the Joe will be out by UAB and the Dawgs will begin grooming the next gunslinger on the roster. Stick to the up-man duties Joe, your QB days should have long since been done.

By BirdDawg

August 21, 2006 12:59 AM | Link to this

Joe T has no arm. None.

DB’s are going to be able to jump in front of many of his slow arriving passes.

And this is the worst thing: DC’s around the SEC are going to stuff 8 and 9 men into the box to ground our running game down to a halt.

Our passing game just went from respected, to zilch. And because the passing game will not be respected, our whole offense is going to be just awful.

Our great running backs won’t be able to run against 9 men in the box.

We can only hope that when we are down 2 scores at the halftime of the SC game, that Richt finds us a QB that opposing DC’s will have to respect.

I think this is the best decision to start the season. With the O-line a bit in question, Joe T might be better qualified for getting drilled than some of the young bucks (he has proven that he is physical on special teams and in the famous QB draws of the UF game last year). As the line gains experience over the first few games we might see more and more of the snaps going to Cox, or even Barnes/Stafford. We will still be experimenting in Columbia, but when Tennessee comes to town we`ll have a true #1.

For know, we gotta have faith in JT3. Forget about the UF game, because he didn’t loose that for us. Our defense gave up TD’s on the first two drives, and we struggled in the kicking game.

Tex, I couldn’t agree with you more. I don’t care how many division title’s Bobby has one. With the talent we had in the mid 90’s he should have won at least 3 or 4 more. He got outcoached big time. Joe T. could start for Troy or maybe even Miss St, but he doesn’t have the skills to be an upper echelon QB in the SEC East. I know he’s a third generation Bulldog, but folks face the facts the talent is not there.

People should not give up on the dawgs so quickly just because JT got the nod. Richt said all along that it could go into the season before a QB is finalized. And I don’t think the fight is over. As we saw Friday, Stafford needs to work out a few bugs. He will take over this team at some point this season, but CMR has to make sure he is ready. Any of the 4 Scholarship QBs would have been a fine choice, and all 4 would have done well as the 3rd Starter named by Coach Richt. It’s not like this is some area of weakness, as all 4 are Top 10 Rivals’ Ranked QBs.

Coach Richt named David Greene Number 1 on his Depth Chart too, but categorically then as now refused to name even David Greene his Starter until exactly the same time preseason 2001 as this choice now.

This is no different.

The knee injury and the broken thumb the week prior to the G-Day Game set Blake Barnes back, and I really do not think he is at 100 percent – nor has been. Hopefully, he will get PT in the Western Kentucky game because I believe in him too.

Clearly, Joe Cox is an exceptional College Quarterback who will get more consistent if he gets the 11 percent of the snaps DJ Shockley got prior his Senior Year that he and David Greene shared in Coach Richt’s first 4 years here.

Joe Tereshinski III is a Top 10 Rivals’ Ranked Pro-Style Quarterback from 2002’s Top 60 Quarterbacks Listing by Rivals, one worse than Brandon Cox Auburn’s Starter – who was Number 9.

Joe Peter Tereshinski III is also a very tough runner and with 4.7 certainly can tuck the ball and take off with alacrity. This long has been a stable in Coach Richt’s design for his Quarterbacks, that they must be able he says repeatedly to take off and run the football in college for him. Further, Coach Richt repeatedly is equally adamant that his Quarterbacks must be beyond any shadow of the doubt leaders in the classroom. Look at David Greene, DJ Shockley and now Joe Peter Tereshinski III – all 3 – who have Graduated from The University of Georgia CumLaude, With Honors.

Coach Richt’s 3 Starting Quarterbacks here at UGA starting now his 6th season since Vince hired him here have much in common.

And, yet they are all different in a skill set that Coach Richt molds his Offense around.

The main constant among the 3 is that Coach Richt chose all 3 to be His Starter.

He was, after all, quite clear to us all along on all 3.

That is, if you can Speak English – which cuts you out Buck Cochran alias northwestDawg.

Of course, I am singing The Party Line when I state that I Trust in God.

And, I therefore Trust Implicitly Coach Richt.

How do I feel about it ? I think we have 5 this year, four scholarship of whom All 4 are Rivals’ Top 10 Quarterbacks in the nation that season Coach Richt recruited them all 4 here and, so was DJ Shockley too anyone of which would start at Auburn, for example.

Or, Tennessee.

Or, Ole Miss.

Or, Alabama.

Or, Vanderbilt.

Or, anywhere else they do not have Coach Richt to teach them what Coach Richt teaches his Quarterbacks.

Next season, we get yet another and he too now Number 6 Rivals’ Top 10 Quarterback in the nation in a ROW to cast his Lot with Coach Richt.

Name me another school that ever could have made that statement ?

How will it play out ?

1st assumption is that Blake Barnes isn’t and has not been 100 percent with multiple debilitating injuries.

2nd assumption is that Joe T is not the QB because of seniority or legacy.

3rd assumption is that what Coach Richt has always stated when the AJ-C previously tried to have some bloody quarterback controversy about being beyond reproach , top grades in classroom work, leadership skills, consistency, being able to run the ball, etc. are in fact the truth.

And, this is no small point I stated to the likes of those who prefer to call Coach Richt a blithering idiot for naming DJ Shockley the Starter for last season, this choice does allow Coach Richt to have what he also states as paramount regarding quarterbacks as well every time the AJ-C comes calling on Coach Richt to ask him about Quarterbacks, and that is that he wants to have 3 Quarterbacks able and ready to play every season and to add 1 Top Signee at QB every recruiting season.

You cannot recruit another every year Top 10 Rivals’ Ranked QB nationally as he has done now including the Commitment for next season now 6 Times in a Row (DJ Shockley 2001, Joe Peter Tereshinski III 2002, Blake Barnes 2003, Joe Cox 2005, Matthew Stafford 2006, and now next season Logan Gray 2007) and jump Matthew Stafford over 3 Scholarship Quarterbacks Coach Richt long-since promised their shot to too.

That is the bottom line, not that you are capable of assimilating the facts presented daily for 6 years to the AJ-C on Quarterbacks and what he thinks about QBs by a coach whom you have done nothing in public but criticize in the 1st place.

I told you so.

Coach Richt has been steadfast about this exactly all along, so too has every player on the team, every coach of Coach Richt’s Staff, and each and every one of the Quarterbacks and all of their families daily as well.

It was a ruse for you northwestDawg…Buck Cochran…any of your other handles posted in here as.

So, now give us your obligatory “but Coach Richt is as wrong about Joe Peter Tereshinski III, as he was about David Greene and DJ Shockley before Joe T.”

Joe Peter Tereshinski III could win his 1st 8 Games he starts and will likely go 11-3 or 10-3, either of which is Top 10 with our schedule. 2 others will play this season and both of them will play next season along with one more, while for the 6th consecutive time at UGA for a Coach Richt Signed QB Ranked in the Rivals’ Top 10 in the nation - there will be one Redshirted next year as well.

Check back with me about that, as you did about this.

And, tell me I don’t make predictions.

While telling you that you are full of BS about your own.

.

Without a returning starter, the job was up for grabs pre-season. I don’t like UGA one bit, but apparently Tereshinski won the job. Isn’t that the way it is supposed to work? Imagine a HC saying something to the effect: ‘…uh, yeah Joe. Look, I know that you moved the team best, and have the best grasp of this offense…but look, I got this guy right out of high school who is a real big shot. Yeah ,him. . .

Coach Richt beat South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier again last year when Spurrier then had his top 7 tacklers on that team last year that Spurrier does NOT have one single one of this year.

Joe T could be 8-0, and 11-3 or 10-3. While you sit there acting like Joe T has zero arm and that is all there is to being a QB, David Greene did not have any arm either right BirdDawg ?

I’m very excited about the news on Joe T. It’s about time. I personally think he will have UGA competing for the East. Very solid Sr. QB is my guess. This year when we play the Gaytors, perhaps the defense will show up in the first qtr. and maybe Milner will make that huge catch that would have been a huge factor in field position.

If we redshirt MS will that cause us to lose the commitment of Logan Gary? Logan said he would redshirt and wait behind MS for his opportunity to start. If MS is given a redshirted Logan will lose one more year of play time (if he wins the job). I guess it doesn’t matter in the long run. We will more than likely get more QB’s in the next 4 years. But it would be nice to see Logan spend a few years learning the system and have 2 years of eligibility. I just like the idea of a QB who wants to learn the system and is dedicated to the Dawgs.

I’m sure CMR appreciates all the input.

Who said that MS is going to sit for 3 years?

This depth chart is for one (1) game.

JT3 earned it - in case you did not read the scrimmage notes from Friday.

MS will not transfer if he is redshirted.

Why is RS MS a bad thing? Only good could come it.

We have 2 other Elite 11 QBs in addition to JT3 to choose from. That is more talent than most teams.

I invite each of you that know more than CMR to apply for his job. I would welcome anyone with more talent coaching my team.

If Stafford gets red-shirted, Cox or Barnes will be leading the team by mid-season. Joe T. ain’t got it.

Unless the running game is explosive, led by Thomas Brown, I think we are looking at a 7-5 season at best.

Joe T. had the best results on Friday as QB and earned his starting position. Stafford has great talent and may end up back in Texas as a Texas Longhorn or Texas A&M Aggie if he doesn’t play much his freshman year. Cox and Barnes have great talent but 4 great QB’s and Coach Richt won’t outsmart or ourscore Spurrier’s USC gamecocks in Columbia the 2nd game of the season.

Ladies & Gentlemen, please go back up top and read my post. I do believe I said that Joe T won the job fair & square. BULLDAWG, YOU ARE JUST A SAD PERSON! ENOUGH SAID, YOU’LL CONTINUE TO ATTACK ME BUT WHO CARE WHAT YOU DO! For me, now it’s just a situation of hoping and pulling for Joe T to do the job. MR was pretty firm about the door not being closed yet so who knows. I don’t. Stafford? I wonder how he will get a chance to play so why not go ahead and say he’ll have a RS yr. I hope he doesn’t but I’ll just watch MR and see what he does. Joe T, not only played the best so far in preseason but he’s also the most conservative choice. MR just kicked a FG and we have points on the board. I hope we have so much talent we run over SC because we won’t put many points on the board. Feel bad for the receivers if they thought they would have a break out yr. Now, MR has made his choice so let’s come together and “JUST WIN, BABY”!!!!!

I think we all knew Joe T was going to be named the starter. He’s a senior who has done everything the team has asked him to do—and he’s the only one of the 4 QBs to start a college game.

I don’t think he’ll be the starter all year, though. I am more surprised to see Joe Cox as #2, to be honest with you.

The Dawgs could have gotten a HS QB to come up and beat South Carolina. Their D consists of one good LB and one good corner. That means the Dawgs run wild with the ground game. Dawgs getting the ground game going keeps that 2nd rate QB the cocks have from getting on the field to even start to prove he can challenge the Dawgs. Im sure it will be a close game. But then again we said the exact same thing about Clemson two years ago when we blew them out 30-0 and we also said the same thing about Boise State. Look for the Dawgs to turn a suspected close game into a SC nightmare! Nuff Said….SOS goes down AGAIN!

I lived in Jax for 35 years and pulled against Florida and FSU all that time. But I will repeat we have a coach that knows how and when to play players and reload year after year.FSU’s top 5’s for 15 years was no accident. In regards to the person that said Bobby got out coached and should have won 3 or 4 more NC’s.That was not the case they had to compete every year with some great Miami teams that they had beat 4 times only to watch field goals sail wide right!By the way there was way more FSU fans in jax so I was always pulling for Miami. But that was a follish statment.I used to get tickled at the stupid Miami players saying things like “we just wanted it more”.No on those field goals you just crossed your fingers and toes and hoped the kick didnt go thru the uprights.Bottom line is I think we have a coach that knows how to keep a team on top and he learned it from coaching at FSU.

More interesting than joe t being #1 is joe cox being #2 and stafford and blake being three, in my mind this speaks volumes that while stafford has all the physical tools at this point he must not have the grasp of the offense, i think it is obvious to all that stafford is the most physically gifted of the four. It will be very interesting to see if all four play against WK in the opener or if just joe t and cox get snaps. I hope joe t works out or i really think this qb situation is going to be a disaster this year.

And you know what? Most of you are absolutely right. You didn’t see a damn thing! No one at the practice field or the film room would waste their time blogging, they have a job to do. Anyone who criticizes CMR’s decision is criticizing CMR, which isn’t something a true dawg fan should do. All you people jumping up and down need to settle down a little. Joe T may not be the most gifted talent wise athlete, but neither was D Greene. Greene consistently threw touch passes over the middle and in the flat to running backs, but he managed the game. He made the audibles and check downs to get into good plays rather than bad ones, this comes from being in the system. It’s not guaranteed the Joe T can manage the game like Greene, but he gives you the best chance to run the system correctly and successfully. Sure, don’t look for 80 yd bombs for scores, but expect good 3rd down conversion percentages. Hopefully, we will be committed to running the ball which will take pressure off Joe T. If the box is loaded up to stop the run, then you need receivers to step up in one-on-one coverage to make catches. I am confident that Joe T is the best man to find the mismatches for the receivers, a freshman in a new system would not, he could throw 60 yd jump balls though for possible interceptions. Guys, cut the coaching staff some slack, I admit I was hoping for Barnes or Cox to step up, but Joe T must have shown that he is the man to beat, so give him a chance.

Go Dawgs!!!! And how anyone could say they wouldn’t watch the dawgs because Joe T was named the starter, move your sorry a** to Alabama, please. Don’t need ya.

I’ve watched Joe T for a few years. He has always shown guts and the ability to compete during his limited time in games. I always wanted to see him at rover,LB or Safety because he hits so hard and probably would have a shot at the next level from one of these positions. He chose to stay with QB because he loves the position. I’m not sure why people say he has a weak arm, always gets the ball there on time as far as I can see when he’s not hit before releasing the ball. Restrictions on plays selected for the Fla. game and dropped passes hurt him more than his arm strength. Remember the QB for Tenn. a few years back when they won the National Championship. Same skill level as Joe T. and never made mistakes. Run the ball, pass a few times across the middle to freeze LB’s, stop the run and don’t turn the ball over. That is a typical description of all Champions at any level. Go Dawgs and Joe T, we will be fine.

OK, I’m totally for Joe T starting for three reasons: 1) He’s the only person who has any starting experience, 2) His father and g’father were also starters at UGA, so he knows what to expect, and 3) Mark Richt has confidence in him to start the games. I think that it’s a smart move, and if for some reason he doesn’t show up to play, then one of the other young pups will be there to get in there. Go Dawgs!

A few questions for those who live UGA football (I’m not one of them):

Should Barnes transfer?
What is the best thing for UGA/Stafford for 2007-2009? I’m assuming he’s the best of the bunch. Does this point to UGA heading down Patriots/Tom Brady model of play, having a QB who’s focus is on not screwing up, letting defense and rushing win games? If so, do they have the horses to make this work?

Not surprised. In many ways the pecking order was the best politically.

Joe T - #1 because he held his own and has earned his shot.

Joe Cox - #2 because he did move the ball between the 20s in the Spring game and he was the most likely to jump ship. This gives him incentive to stick around.

Blake Barnes - #3 is justifiable because he did miss significant time in the Spring due to injuries. Even though he has made great strides with an apparently strong showing this Fall, Richt was likely OK with placing him behind Cox because (I seem to recall hearing/reading) that Blake has said he has no intention of transfering.

Stafford - I don’t have a good enough read on him (i.e., his personality) to know how this sits with him. As he progresses, he may be too good to keep off the field. If others step up and do well, Richt/Bobo can delicately pitch it to him that he might be headed for a redshirt.

The year after my graduation, I returned to Athens to see the Bull Dogs’ final SEC game of the season vs. Auburn. A sophomore, backup QB entered that game with seconds left on the clock and tossed a game winning, SEC championship winning TD pass. This Athens native wasn’t the starter until his junior year, but his accomplishments are momentous. I offer this little story to demonstrate that it’s not always the starters who are the heroes, and that it is performance on the playing field, not the practice field, that counts. So, have patience, Dog fans. Things will work out. By the way – the sophomore’s first name was “Fran”. Now you know the rest of the story.

I doubt any of us on this forum have been observing at every practice, sitting in on all the meetings, or pouring over data from the QB drills. What does it matter if any of us think it is a good choice or a bad choice? It’s kind of like the guy in the right field upper deck arguing balls and strikes. He is free to do so, but he does not have the vantage point to be taken seriouusly.

Joe T. has paid his dues and has earned the right to be the started and a side benefit will be that it will encourage all the upper classmen who are not starting to stay the course and work hard, because if they do, they too will get their shot. But Stafford has to be the second guy, because if he isn’t; then that tells me they do not see him as the starter next year!!!! I know a high school great can go from stud to dud making the transsition from H.S. to college, but Stafford is not going to be a dud and he needs lots of playing time in big games this fall.

MS will not even consider a transfer (especially to Texas where Jevon Snead landed)

Joe T will do a good, if not excellent, job

There is no possible way UGA ends up 7-5 or 8-4. This is the easiest schedule they’ve had in decades (ranked 3rd easiest in the SEC). Between USC,AU,UF,UT there is no way we lose all of these. Who else poses a threat?

I wouldn’t be surprised if a Joe T led UGA team competes for another SEC Title.

Once again, y’all are ignoring the most important part of having Joe T as our starting QB.

Not his affect on the vertical passing game only (which there will be none), but his affect on the offense as a whole.

DC’s know that Joe T has not arm. They know he can’t chuck the ball around, and they’ll have their DB’s ready to step in front of his slow passes.

But more importantly, because those SEC DC’s won’t rightfully won’t respect Joe T as a QB, they are going to stack 8 to 9 guys in the box… every down!

We won’t be able to run the ball, y’all. If your QB doesn’t have an arm, then you won’t be able to run the ball. Joe T cannot keep defenses honest.

And Bull$hit, you can take that to bank, moron.

Look, I don’t dislike Joe T. He’s a loyal dawg, a damn good dawg, who’s the heart and soul of this team.

But he does not belong under center. He doesn’t.

And all of you who act like Coach has never made a mistake before. He’s a great Coach, the best in the SEC, but he’s not perfect. He still makes mistakes with the clock. STILL. Anyone remember the Auburn game from last year?

And he has made another huge mistake this year. Opposing defenses would have had to respect Joe Cox’s ability to get the ball downfield. But they won’t respect Joe T. And I don’t care what’s happened to SC’s defense. It’s still the SEC, and y’all will see it in Columbia.

Our running game is going to get stuffed because Joe T doesn’t have the ability to keep the defenses honest.

And this is worst thing about Joe T being chosen as the UGA QB. Our whole offense is going to suffer because of it, not just the passing game.

Congratulations Joe T . I believe Joe T played well enough to beat Florida. Coach Richt got real conservative in his play calling and threw in the towel after the TE dropped that first pass on the first drive. If Joe T can throw it thirty yards(which you know he can), Richt needs to spend some time reviewing his brain freeze at the cocktail party.Stafford will benefit from a redshirt year, so will the dawgs. The qb’s will be ready . Defense needs lb’s to fill the holes on run support.Sorry saying anything negative about coach Richt but I’m still trying to forgive him for punting with 1:50 left, down by 4, to BC in the music city bowl his first year.I still think he a great head coach, maybe he needs a talented Offensive cood.

Altamaha, it is easy to blame WM for the 1st 14 points. Some one said they had studied the film? You’ll see that we came out to stop the option “O” and LO & BEHOLD!!! They weren’t running it. Martinez was to slow in readjusting the “D” and gave up the 2 tds. After that we shut them down. My deformed Reptile relative did tape the game and did review what happened and shipped ther tape to me. NO, the question from the game was why were we so conservative on “O”. If any of you think Terecrapski is gonna win us a natty title - I’ll have some of what yall are drinking.

if you don’t agree with joe t starting that’s fine, but why is everyone taking shots at the guy. here’s a heralded recruit that did everything/anything asked of him. he’s one tough SOB on the field and a smart kid in the classroom. in his final year nothing was handed to him, he works his tail off wins the qb job and now people are taking shots at him left and right… give the guy a break! lets see how he does and then pass judgement.

bird dawg is about as stupid as he is annoying. look i’m not even saying MR is perfect. but considering he watches and knows these kids better than anyone. i’m sure if joe t was that much of a detriment to this team he WOULD NOT BE STARTING! you keep harping on his arm strength. what in the world gives your the title of arm strength evaluator. how many times have YOU seen joe t throw the ball? what defines arm strength. david greene had a conceived lack of “arm strength” he seemed to do just fine. quincy carter had a lot of “arm strength” he seemed to do pretty badly. “arm strength” does not a good quarterback make. a huge factor in excellent qb’s are what’s between the ears. and i’d say joe t is just fine in that aspect.

It would really be nice if the Dawg Nation could rally behind CMR and be unified in their support of the team, and trust that he knows what he is doing. He’s earned that trust. I’ll tell you what else he has earned— those 4 guys respect him and will be loyal to him. In Stafford’s case it couldn’t have been any more clear cut. CMR stated last week that the scrimmage on Friday would be the final test for the starting job. He said quite publicly that his main concern with MS was his tendency to force throws. On a level playing field- same plays, same number of plays (was it 10 each?) Stafford forced 3 passes for interceptions. He will never be able to say he didn’t get a fair shot.

I’ll bet this whole thing has been something great to behold… pure competition… and I’ll bet the team is now more unified and fired up because of it than they ever could have been if everything was predetermined. I personally think CMR is a genious in so many ways because of the way he handled it. I am glad for JoeT, I trust that he will do well. I am also glad for Cox and Barnes, I hope they both get to see some good playing time, not because JoeT failed, but to bring other dimensions to our attack. The future is with Stafford if he grows like he should in the system, but for now, His job will be to soften up the hands and arms of our recievers. A friend tells me that he has bruised up some blood vessels for guys trying to arm catch. Our recievers will be twice as good this year, thanks to retiring the tennis ball machine and letting Stafford drill 10 yrd slants over and over.

We will lose a few games this year, probably. But my prediction is that we will turn the corner in an area that is vital—- we will start dominating the teams that we should dominate. We need to trust in our gameplan, execute it, and blow lesser teams away. If we had done that in previous years, Joe T would have tons more experience, and there wouldn’t be so many CMR doubters and back stabbers. If the South Carolina game is even close we can forget about any hopes for a NC this year, and I honestly don’t think we’re quite there anyway.

Coach Richt is building a program at Georgia that makes me proud to be witnessing. These are the good old days and I wish the fans would throw caution to the wind and put all your faith in God and CMR. (hope you don’t mind Cuz)

Does anyone actually believe that we could have a “7-5 season at best.” You’ve got to be kidding me. It doesn’t matter who is QB. We have enough talent to win 9 games at least. Also, I hope that the Georgia people rally around whoever is QB. The feel on campus is optimistic and positive; alumni and other fans, please don’t screw this up. Mark Richt knows how to coach and how to win. I trust him. Stafford’s time will come, but JOE T IS THE MAN!

i’m with you cracker, bird dawg (if a dawg fan at all)bases everything on arm strength which is totally aburd rating the effectiveness of a qb, and no one can blame Joe T for Florida last year. He had no receiver help, and CMR mad terrible misjudement by handcuffing the offense because Joe was on the field. No one really knows how Joe can play or lead until we see him in the first game, so all of this terecrapski stuff should cease (how old are you anyway). Give the kid a chance, if he doesn’t produce, there’s no doubt CMR gives the next guy a shot. No way does he play poorly all season as the starter and we go 7-5 like some morons have said on this blog. If we go 7-5, it’ll be because all the QB’s failed when they got their shots. People, get a clue before you bad mouth the team. Joe needs our support, and I’m first in line until PERFORMANCE shows he shouldn’t be out there.

NW if you want to hitch your horse to somebody saying that CMR intentially tanked the Fl game last year after the first play, what can I say.

Starting Qb on the bench, low scoring game, (in fact we shut them down for 3.5 quarters), game plan to run against Fl, no real deep WR. backup Qb totally different style and a week to adjust the team to that. Hmm. Playing conservative, well, hell, who would have thunk it. And the thing is that if it werent for critical special team breakdowns, doing exactly what he should have done, would have worked.

Gator (or should I say Hater), go back to your swamp. Your time will come soon enough!
As for the this blog, I actually agree with someone who mentioned the Bobby Cox syndrome. Loyalty to the veterans….but remember just like B.Cox, CMR is willing the throw in the rookies. I am probably one of the few who isn’t surprised to see J.Cox as the #2 for now. Remember, he is the one who is probably most in synch with the Dawgs biggest wide receiver threat MM. They’ve got several years of playing time together and he must have made some significant improvement b/t the spring and now in order for CMR to list him as #2. Don’t be surprised to see him starting the USC game. Plus, why would Richt want to showcase his true talent. Keep Spurrier scratching his head and wondering how to prepare defensively. The USC game is critical to the DAWGS season.

We just lost to— South Carolina. After Joe T. loses a couple of winnable games— Richt will finally do what he should have already done: Make Stafford the no. 1 QB and Cox #2.

It’s too bad Stafford doesn’t start the opener, then give off to Cox in say— the third quarter.

It will cost us a shot at the SEC title!

After his coaching debacle in the Sugar Bowl— any loyal Dawg has to look closely at Richt. Making $2 mil doesn’t make you any smarter.

Quoted from above: “Ridiculous to question the decision! How can you say that Joe T. has a terrible arm? Anyone that benches over 300 lbs is strong as an ox! Also, if you ever played the position of quarterback as I have, you would relize he has plenty of arm strength.”

I doubt there is much of a connection between bench press and arm strength in accurately throwing a football. If so, then line up a tackle at QB.

I do trust Richt, but I like most others do not think JT3 can lead the Bulldogs to an SEC Championship. He was awful in the Florida game (besides the one good trick play). I was hoping for Stafford as well. Now that Stafford is 3rd, maybe he was overhyped. I think we should take our lumps this year and go with one of the youngsters.

7-5 or 8-4 would be alot sweeter with one of the young qb than a 1 and done Tereshinski. Cos then you have next year to look forward to.

I would like to take a poll here….

Please answer the below questions yes or no.

1) I am a fat bastard and know nothing about football. (Yes or no)

2) I played a little ball in high school..ok, I played flag football during PE, but I was only picked last once. (yes or no)

3) I say “us” and “we” when talking about the Georgia Football Team, but I say “them” when they lose. (yes or no)

4) Even though most of my atheletic energy is spent on mastebating to internet porn and going to the fridge to get more pudding, I, somehow, in my warped sense of reality, think I could actually play QB for “the dawgs” because I watch football on TV and am pretty darn good at Madden 2006. (yes or no)

5) In the dark depths of my pathetic mind, I actually think I could run a program better than Mark Richt. OK, so I may not know the difference between cover 2 and cover 3…and I have no idea what Gap, on, over means….but I swear, that guy is an idiot some times…I mean, how can they lose a game? I mean, I cheer hard for them and no one else in the world wants their team to win more than me… (yes or no)

Bree— the Notre Dame box was a version of the T-formation. But instead of the QB lining up under the center, the whole backfield would shift. A combination of a triple option, wishbone, and shotgun formation. The era was the 1940’s in origin, mid 70’s when I saw it first hand.

By Hunk Erdown

Hey Cracker

you forgot 2 questions:

6) You think Joe Tereshinski is a legit heisman candidate. (yes or no)

7) You think tripping, handing off to the RB, and then tripping and falling as you catch the ball thrown by said RB is a show of athletic prowess and trickery. (yes or no)

thats it, how does the world look without the rose colored glasses?

Just wanted to throw this out there for any comments, but if it plays out that JT3 struggles and Cox comes in and starts the rest of the way and Stafford red shirts, this could be a tough situation next year. Having the returning starter(Cox R-Soph) and then Barnes and Stafford with Logan Gray as the frosh, you know that CMR will be loyal to his returning starter, so would this mean Stafford would sit behind Cox until he is a senior, i just do not see Stafford waiting 3 years for that. And no one can say “oh well Stafford will start next year over Cox” if we know anything CMR is loyal to his QB and Stafford would be running the scout team. Maybe i am overthinking this but seems like a real possibility for 2007.

Coach Richt and his staff are professionals. They are paid to make these decisions and most certainly know more about it than any reader, fan, or general critic. The coaches know who is best suited to be the starter at this time, after all, their very jobs depend on such decisions. In fact, I find it absurd for the media to raise the issue. All DAWG fans just need to support it, if you can’t, support someone else.

To Ryan…. 6)NO, but neither is anyone else on the team. In fact, UGA has had a lot of good QB’s that did not contend for the Heisman. So what does that have to do with the lack of football knowledge on here?

7) That was a pretty exciting play, but does not mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things…the fact that the kid was Ivy League material and the fact that he had the desire and ability to play very well on special teams while behind two current NFL QB’s means something…I do not think anyone on here has an understanding of his abilities….I do think that Mark Richt and Joe T have a lot more invested in this than you do….I also think that how the line young line performs will be the most important factor in the success of the offense….

Coach Richt is looking to win this year, not necessarily sacrificing this for future years. A freshman can contribute, even start at many positions - but quarterback, that’s tough. You simply have to be too many things in too many situations. Yes one day young Stafford will be in all the record books. But for now, and sometimes, you have to go with a guy that may not win it for you - just make certain he doesn’t lose it for you. UGA has too many athletes in too many positions not to take full advantage of other players. Since Stafford apparently did not even rise above Cox and Barnes, there is a good chance he may even red-shirt. Next year, he will be the man.

Before you fellow repeat something you heard about CMR being way too conservative, how about actually check your facts. JoeT attempted ONE less pass than Leak did. We played that thing just as good as you can given the one week to revise the plan, and did exactly what everyone else had done to beat Fl., control the game and shut them down defensively. The last championship team from this state was NOT the Stumble-Bee’s it was Georgia Southern. If you’re trying to clarify D-I or I-AA then do so but get it right. Oh yeah, also, when was the last time Tech won 9 or 10 games in a season or a conference title. Seems like establishing itself as the premiere program in the SEC over the last 5 years says a lot more than struggling to run middle of the pack in the ACC. You’ve got to lay ground work for success and thus far, Richt has done a better job of that than Gailey. The Engineers were benefactors of a fragile schedule (pre-BCS) when they won a lesser share of the National Title in ‘90. The Dawgs are sniffing title every year and winning 10-11 games means they’re constantly in contention. Emerald Bowl vs. BCS caliber bowl………you do the math TECHIE!!

Mr Ryan, …I am pretty confident you do not know what is going on in practice right now and I am pretty confident you have not seen much film on any of the Quarterbacks… I have no stiffy for Joe T… nor do I have a stiffy for any of the other QB’s… I do, however, draw wood occasionally while attending a Gymdawgs event…ironically, I think of coach Y when I am trying to keep from cu… never mind…where were we? Oh, the bottom line here is that if anyone on here thinks they understand this complex situation better than the coaching staff….well then, you are delusional. These situations usually work themselves out… and I beleive this year will be no different. UGA has had a helluva run under the current staff… good news is that the team is pretty young, a lot of guys are going to get an opportunity this year…highly touted guys who were redshirted or behind guys who are in the pros…they got another year in the system…been through the workout…hell, maybe even juiced up a bit… we shall see…either way, nothing you do or say will effect the outcome of any of the games….if I were you, I’d worry about parking and how much Beam you are going to sneak into the game…..

7 = Number of Tech wins every year.

And that’s never going to change, no matter who your coach is.

0 = Number of Bug wins against Richt.

And that number is never going to change, because you’re Tech, and basically, beneath us.

We need to dump Georgia Tech from the schedule, because every year, those stinking Bugs hurt our BCS standings.

This is why, in 2003, we didn’t get a BCS Bowl bid as the number 2 team in the SEC and had to settle for the Citrus.

Now, if we had played a better team, like Duke or Wake Forrest or NC State, we definately would have made the Fiesta or something.

Bug, go away and play with your James T. Kirk action figure and have him have doll sex with Spock. And then get really excited about that idea and have to lock yourself in the bathroom until your mom comes and bangs on the door, because we all know that as a 27 year olf Bug, you live in your parent’s basement preparing for Dragon Con and the next Star Wars movie.

Spanker.

I strongly suspect that MR has coached more football games than most of you critics have ever seen. He has excelled at the job he was hired to do. What’s your track record? If his decision doesn’t work out, then you can gloat all you want. ‘Til then, just shut-up and let the man do his job.

I’m not surprised JT is the first game starter, but I am puzzled that in Firday’s AJC it was stated that Barnes was #2. I’m hoping for improvement at the QB spot, but am not confident JT is the answer for the season.

Have a little faith in Richt’s decision. He’s at least ten steps ahead of all of us. At least he should be. He knows his reputation, legacy, etc. depends on it. I assure you if things are not going the way he desires then he’ll make the change. After Goff and Donnan, we owe it to him. Also, don’t worry about Stafford, the cream always rises to the top. GO DAWGS!!!

Isn’t it funny to glance through all the comments and see just how many Tech, Florida, Tennessee and Auburn “fans” have come on here to show their deepest concern over who our QB is going to be this first game?! Amazing. What’s not really amazing is how many of them are totally ignorant of what success in college football requires…TEAMWORK. One QB is not going to make or break a TEAM’S auccess. Fact is, defense and a running game are what makes a team a champion. Just ask Parcells or other Hall of Fame coaches. Don’t worry boys, our “lousy” starting QB is going to beat 3 of the 4 of you (and one of those three is certain to be Tennessee).

Chuck, Pat Dye was a successful Hall of Fame coach at Auburn, states “Defense and a QB who will not let you get beat” wins SEC titles. You have spoke the correct words, large percentage of Super Bowls and NCAA titles are won on this theory.Auburn success has been good defense and good offensive coaching.Example, UGA lost its defense the first half of West Virginia game in the Sugar Bowl, look at second half when defense woke up, late, but did make the game close.

From ESPN Web, five ACC predictions Aug. 21:

  • Georgia Tech will provide the ACC its biggest out-of-conference victory of the season — but it won’t come against Notre Dame. The Yellow Jackets will give the Fighting Irish everything they have, but Notre Dame will still pull out a close victory on Sept. 2. Georgia Tech will rebound well and finish third in the Coastal Division and salvage its season by upsetting rival Georgia on the road. —Mark Schlabach
  • Dogs are getting no respect anywhere. We’ll be glad they played the games this year. Everybody pile on ESPN, Schlaback et. al.

All of ya’ll stink as Georgia Fans!

I hope JT3 passes for 300+ in every game, just to shut up you naysayers. With a running game like the Dawgs are gonna have this year, and defenses stacking the line, the passing game should be a piece of cake. Especially if the receivers are catching the ball like some of the reports I’ve heard.

You wishy washy so called Dawg fans need to give JT3 your full attention and support. He’s our QB this year, how bout some enthusiasm?

For those of you who do not understand the TWO National Championships comments you obviously don’t think outside of Bulldawg Nation. The poster meant that Richt was the caoch of two National Championship winning QB’s (obviously at FSU). Someone might have already stated this, but I got tired of reading ignorant posts from people in love with themselves (Texans).

Stafford is not ready. The poster who talked to the AP voter proves what everyone knows .. that AP voters don’t have a lick of sense. You don’t start TRUE freshman QB’s in a power conference and expect to win. Georgia is not so down this year that they should just up and throw away the season to get Stafford a year of experience.

In all the hype about Stafford being a 5-star QB people are missing a few things.

Joe Cox was the number 7 overall Pro-Style QB in his class by Rivals. Nothing shabby there, as it is much higher than even David Greene was.

Blake Barnes was the 9th overall Pro-Style QB and had 4 stars. Again, better than Greene.

Joe T. was also a 4-star recruit and was ranked as the 10th overall Pro-Style QB in 2002.

To be real, Stafford probably has the most upside, but he also got alot more press playing at a higher class-level in a upper middle class area than alot of these other QB’s.

If you want to go further, Joe Cox might be the best of the bunch in High School but for some reason got little press. His TD numbers are outstanding, and he went to school with Massaquoi so there is likely a rythym they have already built up. Anyone who throws for 4500 yards, 66 TD’s and only 5 picks … IN ONE YEAR ONLY .. can run my football team anytime.

Long story short, all of these guys can flat out play, but Georgia needs a QB who won’t LOSE games for them. Right now, Cox and especially Stafford are flat out making far too many mistakes. Barnes seems to be middle of the road on the mistakes, but doesn’t move the team as well. Meanwhile, Joe T is moving the team just fine and is NOT making many mistakes.

Richt may not be the best play-caller, or clock-manager, but he flat out knows QB’s. Let the man do his thing and make changes if needed.

Grew up atop Baxter hill and watched all three Tereshinskis perform , plus all the BULLDOG IMMORTALS from Sinkwich and Trippi to date .Measured by character, determination and leadership abilities,JT has been”weighed in the balances and found not wanting”.Is that enough??I hope so, but fear not;however, recall in your evaluation that there are skill players on the far end of those passes —-their abilities count for just as much as the QB , and they can make the “trigger man” look good ! Perhaps a COX to MASSAQUOI combo—-one that set all those records in North Carolina—-will rise again like the mythical PHOENIX; and the ancient GIANTS that roamed the sacred turf of Sanford Stadium will bless their descendants once again .WE WAIT.

Good points earlier Altamaha and Hunk, these so called “fans” who use the Ark. and Fla. games as a basis for criticizing Joe T are showing just how ignorant they really are!! Do some research people!! I did watch the replays of those games. When JT was forced into the frying pan against Ark in a close game, did he show butterflies in his first meaningful stint under pressure? With time running out in the 1st half, he fired a perfect bomb (that was actually caught) to set up a FG. And in the Fla game, after spending the week under the national microscope, was he nervous? His first pass was again a perfect bomb that hit Milner in the hands. Not bad for a guy with no arm! A catch in that situation may very well have changed everything. Someone mentioned earlier that JT couldn’t throw and catch his own passes. After several drops by the WRs, Joe had TBrown throw the halfback pass back to him so he could SHOW THE WRs HOW TO CATCH THE DAMN THING!!! And with a gator all over him to boot! He was practically a one man show in that one. JT made the least mistakes in the scrimmages, as we all know, and the defense he faced in those situations were much better than any group we’ll see all year. That’s right, I said it: ANY GROUP!!!!

Tereshinki didn’t look that good against UF last season, so that means he still sucks. He didn’t really perform better in pre-season than the other QB’s. Stafford TORE IT UP…and CMR just refuses to hand him the job! But getting back to Joe T…I just can’t get over that ridiculous, clumsy looking game vs. the Gators. Everyone knows that players don’t IMPROVE from one season to the next! Richt must not want to win…or worse, make the leghumper nation happy. Seriously,as a GT follower, the perfect scenario IMO would be for UGA to go 1-11 or 2-10, with Tereshinski breaking every QB record in school history. I care NOT ONE BIT about UGA…I just don’t suffer rude, unfair fools lightly.

Those of you raving about Stafford - sure his first pass was a 64 yd bomb, but he was 4 - 11 for about 70 yards the rest of the way. He threw picks in the scrimmages - HE IS NOT READY! Will he be? Sure. At some point. I agree that Joe T is not the most talented, but that doesn’t mean he can’t win. To BirdDawg - OK, he couldn’t separate himself from the other 3 more talented. But what does it say about the other 3 more talented if they can’t separate themselves from Joe T? I believe the phrase is “read between the lines” - they aren’t ready to lead an offense. Talent is part of it, but you have to be able to run an offense, not just chuck the ball. Dawg fans (even the most critical) can we not trust the man who has won 2 SEC Championships in 5 years?

    AltamahaDawg,

Well, he was 8 for 23 with only 100 yards and an interception. I don’t want to hear the excuses that Richt was being conservative. He missed his fair share of receivers. That was another great game our defense played against Florida but yet again, our offense stunk. 3 out of 4 years now We have held them under 21 points.

Joe T will be fine. Mark Richt gets paid $2million a year to make these decisions. If we don’t trust the Joe T decision then we need to fire Coach Richt. Joe Cox or Matthew Stafford will get their chance at some point and will have every opportunity to be the QB in due time. There is no need for anyone to transfer or think about transferring. DJ Shockley did the right thing by sticking around Athens. He got two SEC rings and was drafted in the NFL. What else could he or any QB ask for in a career. The only QB in UGA history that probably should have transferred was Preston Jones when Eric Zeier came in. Jones could have started for a number of teams then however he struck around Athens as well. Be patient dawg fans, Mark Richt knows what he is doing. I see the dawgs going 9-3 or 10-2. Wait and see!

I think Georgia has an over abundance of richs at QB. There is only one QB position and four contenders. Coach is playing them one against the other. The three who didnt get the call could play and star on any other team in the country. All three are stupid to stay at UGA. Transfer to another team and get on with your football life. You will waste it at Georgia. How many top rated QB’s do you think GA will recruit next year?????

If it was me - I’d make up some injury, pat Joe T on the back, hand him a headset & clipboard to get his coaching career started. Let Cox and Stafford battle it out on the field so we can prepare for a national title run. Isnt that the goal? Or are we trying to be the braves of college football.

    70-plus alcohol arrests at UGA

    Associated Press

    Published on: 08/22/06

Athens — Police in Athens-Clarke County made more than 70 arrests on alcohol-related offenses during the first weekend of fall semester at the University of Georgia.

Between Friday and Sunday nights, 40 people were arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol, police said. Eleven people were charged with having open containers and 21 were charged with driving under the influence.

Police said nearly two-thirds of those charged with DUI were 24 or younger.

Patrols were beefed up downtown with two extra officers on Friday, police Capt. Melanie Rutledge said. She said police anticipated larger crowds since classes resumed on Wednesday.

Police reports show officers arrested or cited at least a dozen UGA students, but officials could not say Monday exactly how many students were arrested.

Underage drinking was not limited to downtown. Police arrested a Gainesville State College student in eastern Clarke County about 1:40 a.m. Saturday after he was accused of using a gun to threaten his neighbor — a UGA student — at The Lodge of Athens apartment complex.

Timothy James Weichselbaum, 20, was charged with making a terroristic threat and underage drinking.

Joe T. did not lose the Florida Game. Milners dropping a perfect pass on the first play on offense did not help the situation but Joe T. obviously shook it off and gave a good effort deserving a win.

Play calling in the last possession took away the chance to win that game with running sweeps, with time running out on long yardage plays, rather than passing. Richt is a great head coach but not a good offensive coordinator.

Joe T. held up fine but the other skill players showed more problems with pressure than he did.

Now he is the recognized leader, by the team, and that will make a great difference in his support from those skill players.

Mark Richt is a very good coach and judge of talent. He made the right decision for this years team. For those who want to write off 2006 and build for the future they should realize that Mark wants to win NOW as well as the future. Joe T. with Cox as backup offer the best opportunity for winning this year. Barnes, barring injuries, is History. Staffords time will come after Cox finishes. Mark Richt has shown his ability to stick with what offers the best opprtunity to continue to win year to year. He does not rebuild he just reloads. Three cheers for the greatest head coach in the country…Mark Richt.

Jealousy is a bad thing. Just because you support programs that:

A.) Have never beaten a CMR coached team B.) Have never been to the GA Dome for the SECCG since 2000 C.) Have lost 5 out of 6 to CMR coached teams

is no reason to be angry. Go for therapy, counseling etc. Maybe you should concentrate your efforts on trying to improve your own worthless teams. Maybe then you could support teams that could actually participate in a meaningful game in the months of December or January.

Auburn people have every right to talk-we have split with them over the last 4 years and they won the SEC in 2004 and got hosed on the national title thing.
