Duke, Louisville on the rise

March Madness in Atlanta:
Check out the AJC’s Final Four page

After reading Tony’s Saturday take on the NCAA tourney field, offer your thoughts:

MOVING UP

• Duke (21-7, RPI 10): The Blue Devils have moved up to a No. 3 seed with a three-game winning streak.

• Louisville (19-8, RPI 47): Two weeks ago the Cardinals were off the board and now Rick Pitino’s team is a No. 5 seed after four straight wins.

MOVING DOWN

• Clemson (18-10, RPI 44): The Tigers’ loss at Boston College Saturday could drop them all the way out.

• Oklahoma State: Loss at Texas Tech Saturday could make it the odd man out in the Big 12.

KEEP AN EYE ON

• Ole Miss (18-9, RPI 56): We want to put the Rebels in the Dance but they just CAN’T lose at South Carolina (13-13, RPI 89) today.

• Purdue (17-10, RPI 49) is still in the field as a No. 12 seed but that will change if the Boilermakers lose at Northwestern today.

What about UGA? They had a big win today and if they win 1 or 2 more in the reg. season and 1 in the tourney, they should get in. Heck if they win 1 more in the reg. season and 1 in the tourney, they get it. Felton has done his best coaching job this year!!! His last 3 seasons have been excellently coached!!

even with today’s decisive win, I am afraid the Bulldogs willhave to win at Kentucky to have a chance. All of our early season quality wins have tarnished. A win a Rupp is what it will take.

If a team finished 9-7 in the SEC and wins one game in the SEC tourney, that should be just about an automatic…thus, UGA must at least split the last two, win a tourney game and to me, they are definitely in.

i agree 9-7 and a first round tourney win will do, ole miss is going to lose tonight at carolina killing their hopes and the tide lost again to auburn to leave them at 6-8 in the league. UGA is number five in the SEC right now, two more wins will do it. Live by the 3 and die by the 3.

You are correct jerry dog. Bama losing today was huge for UGA. SEC gets at least 5 teams in and a split in the last 2 games will put UGA no worse than the 5th team from the conference. Gotta hope bama loses one more.

Why is everyone sold on Tech getting into the tournament? They are going to finish under .500 in the league. Barnhardt is in love with them for some reason. You don’t deserve a trip to the tournament going 1-18 on the road in your conference. They won’t be playing any tournament games inside the “thriller dome” so Tech is guaranteed an L. The Dawgs will be dancing. No respect man. Georgia is the Rodney Dangerfield of the college basketball world. GO DAWGS

Well, lets see. Ga won…Al lost and Ole Miss is going down in flames at SC.

As of now…Ga…if this thing is to be fairly done…should be 5th in line out of the sec for an ncaa bid.

Seven (7) teams in the SEC with the best won/lost record should be selected,

SEC fans, you crack me up. UF, KY, and Vandy are the only SEC teams that even deserve to get in the tourney. Bama being ranked 25 is the biggest joke other than Butler. Since the SEC is a major conference, they’ll get some extra slots but not enough to get UGA in. Bama, Ole Miss, and UT are all ahead of them, they lost to all 3. I thought only the UGA football fans were optimists to the point of idiocy. Enjoy the NIT, keep improving, make a run next year.

Hopefully the tournament committee was forced to watch a few of these snoozefest SEC showdowns (watching Bama/Auburn a while back was painful) and will realize they should give some bubble teams from GOOD conferences like Texas Tech, GT, and Providence some love.

Barnhard, you are absolutely incorrect. Kentucky is not that good, neither is Virginia, BC, FSU, Va Tech, DUke, and it continues. The ACC isnt good, the only reason the teams are ranked so high is bc they are beating up on each other. Only contender in elite 8 time will be UNC. SEC is low too, only contender is UF, watching out for vandy, bama to make runs as they are deep teams with talent and bama has experience. The Big East will be best represented- Gtown, Marquette, Pitt are solid, ND, Syracuse and WVU are great as well and Nova,Prov are right behind. Pac 10also is down- as they have UCLA and the others are too shaky, USC, Zona, Waash St, Oregon are all good but they are too iffy and not great. They will all be out by sweet 16. Big 10 is solid and Big 12 has 2 teams-TAMU and Texas. KAnsas will loose again first round, they are overrated.

I hope darren is joking. By his mindset there is not good league besides the Big East. Put Prov in the ACC. they already lost to FSU by 32. I hate FSU but they are a bubble ACC team and they have a top 40 RPI with a top 10 SOS and 4 top 25 wins. Find a Big East bubble team with that resume. Only UNC and UCLA have more top 25 rpi wins. The ACC is by far the best conference in the land.
