Northview DL Denzel McCoy surprised to leave Clemson without offer

Northview defensive lineman Denzel McCoy participated in Junior Day at Clemson on Saturday.

“It was awesome,” said McCoy, who saw his scholarship count climb to 31 earlier this week when he received an offer from Purdue. “They really emphasize academics at Clemson. And I like the way they were really organized and how the players were where they needed to be.”

McCoy didn’t meet Clemson coach Dabo Swinney one-on-one. But he did hear him give a speech. “He talked to us as a group,” McCoy said. “He’s a great guy who is energetic.”

The only disappointment was that the Tigers didn’t offer him last weekend. “I was kind of surprised,” McCoy said. “But I went with the flow. It was alright.”

McCoy predicts that his next offer will come Clemson, Florida, Nebraska or Oklahoma. “Florida wants me to come down before they offer,” he said. “I’ll try to make my way down there.”

Georgia Tech continues to make a major push for McCoy. “They’re probably the school that sends me the most mail, as far as handwritten letters,” he said.

McCoy isn’t sure when he’ll take another visit to Tech. “I’ve seen everything I want to see about them,” he said. “I do want to see if they’re the right fit for me.”

Why hasn’t Georgia offered? Looks like Rodney “I’m going to interview for every available job to leverage a pay raise” Garner is lazy at the wheel again. They’ll probably offer him a month before signing day like they did with Stephen Hill and Cam Kenny, and get turned down again. Wake up UGA.

Seneca Dawg - I think Rodney Garner’s and Georgia’s recruiting strategy in general has fared pretty well thus far. They’ve earned a little trust in their tactics.

WR Marlon Brown TE/WR Orson Charles
