Dalton DE Jalen Fields says his top choice is UGA

Dalton junior defensive end Jalen Fields, who is rapidly becoming one of the state’s top 2010 prospects, said he wants to play in the SEC because it most resembles the NFL.

“It’s the speed of the SEC,” he said. “You don’t see that in any other conference.”

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound currently has offers from UGA, Ole Miss, Alabama, West Virginia and Florida State. Georgia is his top choice, and he is going to Athens for Junior Day next weekend.

“UGA was the first school to offer me,” he said. “I’ve been a Bulldog fan since I was little. I have dreamed of playing on Saturdays.”

So why doesn’t Fields commit? “I’m keeping my options open,” he said. “I want to see some other schools and find the program that fits me best.”

Fields said Alabama and Tennessee are also high on his radar. “Alabama was the first Junior Day I attended,” he said. “I like FSU as well.”

Fields said he thinks Arkansas or Florida will be the next to offer.

On another issue, CMR is stressing because some of the biggest names of the 2009 class are in big-time academic trouble. It’s going to go down to the wire. Hopefully, like last year, the Georgia admission’s office can help push these guys through. We only lost one last year, Toby Jackson. They tried everything with that guy and so did Hargrave. People are very nervous about this year’s group.

Both Dexter Moody and W. Ealey have to make some tremendous academic strides. You need to worry about both, but Moody more than Ealey.

Why do we persist in recruiting MORONS! I’d rather have an athlete that is next on our board if their academic standing is a lock! I am hearing we could lose as many as 6 and we had a small class to begin with. Sure we are top 5 in recruiting but if we lose even three we probably drop at least 5 spots.

I do not know where you are hearing this from. There is a very good chance we lose Moody to Hargrave. The only other one who is up in the air is Geathers. We knew that too begin with. If he doesn’t qualify he will go to Hargrave as well. Geathers school says he is on track though. Ealey would be the next closest to not qualify and he is on track, and should, qualify. We might lose two tops, chill out.

Guys, it’s more than just Moody & Geathers. Add Smith, Charles & Ealey. NOT qualified yet. And my source is VERY reliable.

Dawgman,

Why worry about where our class stands according to recruiting sources like Rivals and Scout. The standing is not going to win any games for us, just the guys we recruit. Yes, there is validity to standing per class, but man, it just has nothiing to do with anything but bragging about it. These kids still have to be coached up and therefore productive. I would much prefer to brag about winning! As for qualification, some of our GA school systems are just not cutting it with our young people. Then there is the individual who realizes too late that he might have a future in football. By then, it is all catch up. Maybe we need to evaluate these kids at an earlier age, whereby they have some idea that if they work hard, a scholly might be a possibility.

What UGA’s problem is is they’re too honest with their student athletes. The only thing Yech is better than us at is hiding their mentally challenged “student” athletes like Michael Johnson. LOL!! This guy wouldn’t last a semester at GPC, yet he’s been at Yech for 5 years??? Riiiiiiiiiight!!! It all starts with Yech with their relationships with the hs coaches. Why else do you think they use the same exact schools every single year to get their “student” athletes? These hs coaches pass the retarded jocks at their level and then Yech carries it over once they get on campus. UGA is making these guys do everything on their own merit, and they pay the price for it each recruiting class.

We can learn a lot from the douches from North Ave. on this subject, LOL!!!

Charles said himself that he would have no trouble qualifying and that he had no idea where the rumors of trouble started. Ealey seems to be on track, I don’t know about Moody. CMR may be signing Geathers and getting him into Hargrave, if that is the case, to keep him out of Columbia. He may think that one Geathers with a chip on his shoulder lining up with SOS is enough. Geathers is just rated a three star player, and UGA has plenty of young linemen on the team already. The Dogs lose only one Senior O lineman this year. So, even if Geathers enrolls he will probably be red shirted.

I live in Dalton and watch this kid play each week. He is huge! Sometimes he looks slow but i think that it is because he man hanldles his opponent with such ease that it makes him appear sluggish.

Some of you guys are amazing. You will btch if CMR doesn’t sign the big names (according the Rivals, etc., who happen to be in it for the money), and you btch if someone he recruits might not qualify.

It is no secret that UGA’s admission standards are higher than the SEC’s and NCAA’s so there are some guys we won’t recruit and some that won’t meet the UGA admission requirements. Somehow CMR has been able to do pretty well in the past with the guys he has recruited and those who have been admitted.

Lasat time I checked it wasn’t in his contract that he had to get your approval on his recruiting strategy or coaching strategy.

Get over it.

Jalen Fields is a good kid. According to his cousin, he’s not mean enough. He’s quiet and too nice of a kid. He’ll be alright tho, after coach Fab get him out of his comfort zone.. if he signs that is.

Dexter Moody and Kwame Geathers will redshirt anyway.

Go DiamonDawgs!

Ga public schools need to prepare these high school students for the next step which is college.

So beanuga, it is the high schools fault? How about putting some responsibility on the students and their parents. And just for your information, the next step is not always college. Some sudents are not college material.

I agree with you Rick. Parents have alot to do with it also. I believe some of the coaches in high school just don’t care about the players future. Some of the coaches are not worried how good the players grades or test scores are to get them in college.

Mark Richt has been thru this a thousand times. Some people would complain if Coach Richt did not recruit players who are close but have not qualified yet.Every big time football school is recruiting them. Most meet requirements a very few UGA recruits go the prep school route. We lost 1 player last year Toby Jackson and the rest were fine. This class we will lose one and even he has 4 more times to take SAT-ACT but must graduate from high school.Coach Richt is known as one of the top recruiters in the country and will remain recruiting top 5 classes for many years to come.Everybody needs to chill out he knows what he is doing.I have coached football in Georgia-Alabama and Texas for 23 yrs and Coach Richt is the finest coach and recruiter I have ever met and I have personally met most of them. All UGA alumni and fans you should feel fortunate he is running the show and national titles will follow very soon.He has 2 national title rings from FSU nd knows what it takes to get there.

RY is actually 100% right. I mean, are we supposed to assume it was just a huge coincidence that ONE year Tech had 20 or so athletes that received passing grades they didn’t earn? Give me a break! Whomever was in charge of their coverup dropped the ball and they got exposed. I’m sure that person has since been fired and Tech now has a new person in charge of hiding the retardation of their “student” athletes.

R/Y is the only POS on these blogs that has to make up a new name so he can congratulate himelf on being”100% right”. What a lowlife loser. Real dog fans don’t even give him any credibility anymore! I mean, how low can you go?

Looks like someone is bitter at always being proven a liar. Real “dog” fans? You mean like your fake “Dog” handles that you use trying to pass yourself off as a “dog?”

Talk about your lowlife losers. What a tool, but oh so typical phaggot fan.
