DEL.ICIO.USWoodward’s DeShields considering two sports at Georgia Tech

It’s too soon to know if Woodward Academy junior Delino DeShields will attempt to earn his living as a professional baseball or football player.
So the 5-foot-9, 180-pound running back/outfielder is keep all options open.
“Right now, I’ve got [football] offers from Georgia Tech, Stanford and Central Florida,” DeShields said. “Maryland hasn’t offered yet, but they’re coming on strong.”
The son of former major league baseball player Delino DeShields, the Woodward Academy standout and his parents met with Tech coach Paul Johnson and several of his assistants last week.
Part of the discussion centered on whether he would be allowed to play baseball and football for the Jackets.
“They said they would like to have a two-sport athlete,” DeShields said. “They said they’ve had a couple of people that have done it and they think it’s good for them.”
DeShields plans to spend the upcoming summer playing baseball for the Atlanta Bluejays, which will allow him to travel around the country and participate in showcase and college events.
DeShields, who will likely be selected in the 2010 major league baseball draft, said his father wants to see him continue to play two sports, at least for now.
“My dad wants me to go into the draft and see where I stand,” he said. “If it doesn’t go like I want it to go, he wants me to go to college and play both sports and see which one I like, then go from there.”
If he goes the college route, DeShields said he can picture himself at Tech.
“I like the school,” he said. “It’s not too far from home. I think it would be a good fit.”

PJ had J.R. Revere of LaGrange play baseball and football at GSU and had Arkee Thompson of Windsor Forest play basketball and football at GSU.

I don’t understand why you people, UGA and Tech fans alike, enjoy posting stupid shiz on the AJC. Every single post is littered with crappy insults and then the other side actually gets offended by it. It is especially sad when someone from Tech comments on the UGA stories before a UGA person does, and the UGA fans comment on the Tech stories before someone from Tech does. It is ridiculous and makes you look stupid and insecure. Just my thoughts.

ReasonableMan, it’s done in the name of cheap, if not childish ‘entertainment’. Certainly, this is a reasonable, but fun way to get at each other until Tech and uga ACTUALLY play each other in a sport. As the post pile up, they tend to get farther from the subject in which the article intended. By the time people get done on this particular subject, uga fans will be calling Tech fans hypocritical nerds and Tech fans will be calling uga fans toothless rednecks that lost 45-42…. it’s a pattern that has been faithful on the majority of these latest articles. It’s a ‘clean ole fashioned hate’ thing. The funniest part is when fans of OTHER teams get in on the action….cracks me up EVERYTIME! Hope this has helped you in some way….for the record, it takes ‘a delay of up to 5 minutes’ before your post is approved; don’t hit the ‘post’ button twice. It just shows what a novice you are at this. The stupid and insecure are reserved for those that would use the word ‘shiz’. Good chattin’ with ya!

You GT fans seem to be a little touchy lately. I thought beating UGA for the first time in 8 years would have you guys on a natural high. What’s going on?
Tecnhnique, is that the best you could come back with? How about tossing out a “Ugay” or “Ugag” or some other clever name like that.
Bumble Buzzard, my 3rd grader says 45 - 42 = 3. Thought you Tech guys were supposed to be good a math, especially considering you mastered that tougher-than-any-other-college “calculus” course. Oh, and you guys gave us a “beatdown” in recruiting?…….HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, not THAT’S something I haven’t heard much.

dirt dauber, YOU said it was a lamp pole. now it’s a pool? does this have ANYTHING to you excelling in drinking 101? i’ve seen this to be a HUGE past time in athens. are you STILL cramming for this class? i get the 51-7 score. when was that? ‘02-,03 season? 38-3…not getting this, coming from a turd eater, though. we beat YA’LL….with your suggestion, here are some scores- 41-30, 49-10, 45-42( again, THIS past season). with your short comings, you couldn’t handle a vinyl girlfriend. with your blurred vision you’d pop her (sharp objects are not recommended around inflatibles). i think we’ll pass on your old gold pool…. after all, it was Tech that did the p**’ on our instate rival between the hedges THIS past season. say what you will, bragging rights are ours. Tech is the state champion!

dirty little dauber, you SEEM to know a lot about guys from tech…is this the beginning of your coming out of the closet celebration? maybe, a little ‘squeal like a pig’ kind of thing? pocket protectors do it for ya?! in regards to the rings, they were in celebration of tech maintaining the longest winning streak between them and the mutts. i assure you, that we Tech fans have NO inferiority complex in regards to that school in cow town. how could we? we were the ones that won! uga doesn’t win in the classroom OR on the field. St. Simons, WHO doesn’t have an experimental moment from time to time?! unlike dauber, though, i was man enough NOT to puncture it with the high pitched sounds of a slowly leaking balloon! go get yourself some tire patches and borrow one of dauber’s; certainly, he’s got plenty of them lying around. ;0)
