Lane Kiffin “felt bad” about accusing Urban Meyer of cheating, says dad

Lane Kiffin “felt bad” about wrongly accusing Florida coach Urban Meyer of recruiting violations, his father told the Orlando Sentinel. “Yeah, he screwed up,” said the elder Kiffin, Monte Kiffin, who also serves as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator.

“In Tennessee they liked it, but when it was out there on the ticker tape — ‘Kiffin says Meyer cheated!’ — it looked worse than it was … and Lane felt bad about it,” Monte Kiffin told the Sentinel in Monday’s edition. “I just hope people understand. He respects coaches. He wasn’t trying to come across as arrogant. He’s not arrogant. He respects Urban Meyer. He respects all coaches.”

Florida is the reigning BCS champion.

Here’s a quick recap from the AP: Last month, Kiffin apologized for accusing Meyer of violating recruiting rules in pursuing wide receiver prospect Nu’Keese Richardson. “At an energetic breakfast with some of our donors and alumni I made a statement that was solely meant to excite the crowd,” Kiffin said in a statement. “If I offended anyone at the University of Florida, including Mr. Foley and Urban Meyer, I sincerely apologize. That was not my intention.” Kiffin was reprimanded by the SEC. Kiffin told a group of fans at a signing day breakfast celebration last month that Meyer phoned Richardson while the recruit was making his official visit to Tennessee recently. Richardson, a Pahokee, Fla, native, signed with the Volunteers on Tuesday, despite having indicated he would sign with the Gators. Kiffin told the crowd, “I love the fact that Urban had to cheat and still didn’t get him.”

Other than accusing the national champions of cheating, blaming Marlon Brown’s grandmother, and smirking while his highly overpaid staff of assistants go topless in front of kids, Lane Kiffin is just a swell guy. A swell guy, I tell you.

So now Mr Lame Kiffin respects Urban Meyer? Well I’m not so sure about that but I will tell you this…after Sept 19th he will!!! For anyone whose never been to the Swamp, let’s just say it can get a little LOUD but I think I’ll go out on a limb and predict record decibels for Kiffey Boy and the Vile-n-tears. They are definitely gonna lose their shirts that day. All I can say is they better bring their earplugs AND their jockstraps!

Both of Florida’s recent National Titles were basically decided on a vote. In my opinion, when you “win a title” with a loss, it isn’t nearly as special as an unblemished record where you defeated every opponent in your path. Florida was simply in the right place at the right time. This can basically be said for all of Florida’s NC’s.

Now I’ve seen it all. This just keeps getting worse by the week. So now we have Lane’s daddy saying Lane was sorry he accused Meyer. Good grief. Time for Lane to grow up.

For what it’s worth, I don’t challenge ANY of Florida’s NCs. They earned every one of them.

Daddy, please make them quit picking on me. This sounds like a conversation a parent has when talking about their 10 year old….well, they didn’t mean to do it…they are good kids, really they are.

SUPER DADDY to the rescue. If not for Monte, that entire staff would be a joke. Not a single GOOD COACH among them. Fall cannot get here fast enough. The ‘intelligent’ UT fans know what’s coming….Lane Train is fixing to derail.

It appears Monte understands the magnitude of his boys blunders even if his boy does not. Too bad he has to try to clean up after him since his son can’t utter a sincere apology. Monte is older and wiser. His son is young and spoiled and that is Monte’s fault. The lame Kitten will learn the hard way in the SEC and at UT’s expense. yes UT fans might be enjoying this now but they are not going to be enjoying the drumming they get from the rivals next year. They made a blunder in hiring him. He is not a proven winner, and I am not so sure that staff of coaches can do it. They may be able to recruit but can they focus to put a game plan together, that is a different story? Ed O could not do it at Ole Miss, he was too busy recruiting, the only thing he really focused on.

Smyrna man, so if you can’t find facts that help your argument, you just make them up? It was not 35-0 halftime at neyland you moron nor does ut hold the record at uga for most points scored. Since you REMEMBER that game, the score was 51-33, not exactly a blowout since it was 44-33 with less than five minutes. As I recall, UGA was up 24-7 in that game, so I wouldn’t exactly say you dominated like say 41-14 UGA 03. Final score in 07 was 35-14 just in case you want to make up that score as well. Refresh your memory next time.

Well, I didn’t think it was possible. But Spurrier is no longer the most hated coach in the SEC and the guy hasn’t coached a game.

The philosophy any press (good or bad) is good press is quite risky.

Knowing UT fans (and to be fair - most SEC fans), if the Vols start poorly, they will be all over him and use the same poor judgements they are presently defending as examples on why he has to go.

At the end of the day - it’s about winning. If he wins, the Vol nation will love him. If he loses, I actually feel for the Vol nation, because the rest of the conference is going to pile on, and they will have brought it on themselves.

It leads to the question, “is this guy a ring master or a clown”, either way at U.T. the circus has hit town.

By R2P

So let me get this straight, A head coach can contact a recruit only one time a week. unless that coach is Urban Meyer, he can call a recruit time and time again…..is that the way that should be taken?

Lane Kiffin, even with daddy coaching the defense, may not last 3 years in Knoxville—-he can’t coach, and UT fans will not put up with his BS when’s he’s losing to Bama, UGA and Florida every year. UGA will lay half a hundred on their defense this year—mark it down. Ut will lose 7 games.

The Gators have the record in 1995 when the ‘Ol Ballcoach was the first to hang “half a hundred between the hedges” 52-17.

By hmmm

JPGator, I wasn’t going to mention WHO held the record, but you would be correct. SOS was still passing with less than two minutes to score a touchdown to be the ‘first’ to score 50 against UGA between the hedges. I think he still held resentment from being sacked 14 times his heisman year that cost FLA what would have been their first SEC championship.

Monte will be a good DC for UT. Other than that, I’m not sure what they have in the coaching department. Since D wins games, they will be an average or slightly above average team in the SEC for several years. Given Montes D is the only reason Tampa Bay made a super bowl, UT may be back on the Map. It is Monte that is to be worried about. All SEC OCs need to be working now on how to beat Monte.

And, whatever happened to intelligent, decent conversation? Monte Kiffin is a total class act, and I am wishing that some of the father will rub off on the son. It needs to happen soon. As far as Florida having luck to get into 2 of the last NC games, well that is a lot of serious luck. And Johnny Reb, I bet you’d trade the victory over Florida for a NC anytime, right? Well, Mr. Reb, Florida will take losing to the Rebs anytime if they win a NC. That loss inspired the entire Gator team, not just Tebow. And I am not sure if there will ever be another undefeated SEC champion again…certainly not the Vols anytime soon. If last year’s Gator team couldn’t go undefeated in the SEC, then what team can? The Gators were a powerhouse team last year folks. They defeated a powerful Oklahoma team with one of the best, if not the best, defensive teams in the country. And every starter on that team is back this year, and every outstanding backup on that team is back this year, and every 5-star recruit from the previous year’s recruiting class is back this year, and every 5-star player they signed this year is on the team this year. That does not sound good for the rest of the SEC. And the Gators are going to be an exceptional team on offense, too. Mr. Kiffin better bring more than emotion and talk to Gainesville. It is going to be a Gator feast on Volunteer hunting dog meat for sure. I expect Meyer might save all 4 time outs for the last “5” seconds of that game!

I agree that our new young, very young, coach has put his foot in his mouth a few times in a short period of time. However, just the thought that this coaching staff is not a very special collection of coaches is rediculous. They will need a few years to bring it together and I am sure do not expect to beat FLA, AL & GA right out of the gates either. I know I do not expect that. I do believe they will take down one of them next year though. But the idea that Meyer will run up the score on them because of all this is laughable simply because he runs the score up on everybody anyway. Kiffin has all of you talking about UT in Jan, Feb & March and that is all he wanted to do, he is not nearly as stupid as you think he is. He has fired up the fan base and especially the boosters, smart move on his part. I personally was very upset to see Fulmer go, he gave us the only NC during my lifetime (undefeated was a better feeling I am sure than with a loss, even tho I’ll take a NC with a loss at UT anytime). But what we now realize is that we needed a fired up coaching staff that is not afraid of anybody, Fulmer’s inability to beat Florida, afraid or not, was why I think he needed to be replaced. The new staff is not afraid of Florida, we will compete with you guys in a few years. Looking forward to it.

I’d say Lance “Village People” Kiffin has more important things to be worried about. Check this out:

The prospects were led to the film room, where Kiffin thanked the recruits for making the trip and considering the Volunteers. “Then this other coach [assistant] got up there and said that Tennessee takes special teams very seriously, that it’s a big key to winning,” recalled Northview defensive lineman Denzel McCoy, who has 31 early scholarship offers.

“That coach said they get real fired up on special teams and yelled for everybody to ‘Get up, get on your feet, and get fired up about special teams.’ Then this other coach ripped off his shirt Superman style. It was crazy.”

Many in the crowd weren’t sure how to react. “The coaches told us to stand up, but nobody really knew what to do. We started clapping, sort of like one of those ‘Ah, this feels awkward’ kind of things,” Volger said. “The coaches yelled ‘OK, we’re going to give you another shot. We’ve leaving the room. When we come back in here, we want it really to get crazy.’”

Douglass defensive lineman Garrison Smith said the lights in the room dimmed. “This one coach stayed behind and walked to the side of the room. Then he kept slamming the [side] doors, as if the other assistant coaches were trying to break it down. It was like an angry dog or some wild animals were on the other side.”

After a few moments, Smith said the doors swung open and the Tennessee assistants ran into the room. “By now, three or four coaches had their shirts ripped off.” Smith said around 10 Tennessee players, including All-America defensive back Eric Berry of Atlanta and quarterback Jonathan Crompton, ran down from behind the recruits to meet the coaches on the floor. “Eric and the rest of the players were chanting ‘U-T, wild boys … U-T, wild boys … U-T wild boys.’”

VolFan I would agree with some of what you say, the only problem with your theory is I don’t thnk Tenn is gonna give this guy 4-5 years to try to build this program especially with they are going to have to put up with and what they are paying that entire coaching staff. Your problem is why your coach can “steal” players from other teams, he couldn’t steal a top flight QB recruit this year. Heres your best case scenerio…this year you got Crompton, and unless this guy suddenly becomes Peyton Manning, I don’t see this season going anywhere MAYBE 6 wins. Next year you get a QB but he’s a true freshman so thats a wash…and the next year maybe 7 wins…and in the meantime Kiffin is becoming less and less tolerable to the fans and administration, maybe even a possible minor/major NCAA probation because he clearly either doesn’t understand the rules or doesn’t care…And by the way, if you don’t think Urban Meyer can and will pour on the gas then you don’t know Urban Meyer. And the rest of the league will be trying to fan the flames!

Johnny Reb…I think the Gators will be looking forward to playing your Rebels the next time they play. You can count on that. And as far as Nutt having the Gators number, I don’t think his past history at Arkansas supports your theory. I also think Ole Miss was one of the top teams in the country at the end of the year last year. They were very talented. And, Ole Miss beat Florida fair and square last year as well. But you are not living in reality if you think you would exhange beating Florida for winning a NC…and Florida did win it on the field against Oklahoma, which was the second best team in the country at that time based on their “of field” performance for the year. Ole Miss might have been as good as both Florida and Oklahoma at the end of the year, but their losses at the beginning of the year… “on the field”…prevented them from having a shot at the NC. But you would have traded those early losses and bad play for a loss to Florida…if that would have put your Rebs in the NC game against Oklahoma…if you deny that, you ARE NOT dealing with reality in your life, unfortunately. Or you are just a fan of another team and just enjoy ripping the Gators for any reason…which might be the case.

WOW! So many experts out there! CLK is gone in three years huh? I don’t know about that. What I do know is this. The rest of you clowns have just one more year to run your mouths, then CLK and the VOLs will shut you up!

For you gay-tards…..Tebow will be gone next year year, and you will not have a QB of that caliber to follow. As much as I hate gay-tards, I will give Tebow credit. He is a freak of nature and an outstanding college QB. I wish him well in the NFL, however, we all know that florida does not produce good NFL QBs. Also, Meyer will probably be gone as well. Off to ND after they fire Weis.

All the rest. Like I said…..enjoy next year…..after that there will be a new SEC power….GO VOLS!!!!

VolFan, you are correct that Tebow is a freak of nature and I don’t expect us to be able to just replace a once in a generation type of talent. But we’ve got a guy named John Brantley who was Gatorade Player of The Year in 2006 and will be a junior with 3 full years in the system. As much as I hate to compare us to FSU … in the 80’s and 90”s thats what the Seminoles always had…a talented experienced junior QB to take over and thats why they had such a run of success. So look for the same scenerio sorry to tell you. As far as Urban Meyer going to ND, why would you take a step down??? The only way up from Florida is the Pro’s and I’m not so sure thats a step up!

As long as Meyer is at Florida they wil be strong. NC every year? No, that is not possible, but they will be stong and will have great players. Luck, Johnny Reb, you are right, we are lucky to be a Florida Gator. Go Gators

Michael;

I must have missed your article regarding Spurrier accusing Kiffin of cheating the day he was hired. You and the SEC office must have been sleeping that day!

Make an effort to be, at least, somewhat objective!

Ted. Spurrier is irrelevant. Deal with it.
