M.L. King RB Mack Brown says Georgia Tech and UGA reserving No. 33 jersey

M.L. King’s Mack Brown, one of the nation’s top tailbacks for 2010, said both Georgia Tech and UGA are reserving his No. 33 jersey if he signs with either in-state school.

Brown had hinted that Florida was an early leader but now claims no favorites. He has nearly 20 early offers, with Ole Miss and Rutgers being the latest schools. Brown made an unofficial visit to Georgia on Saturday.

“I’ve been wearing 33 since I was five years old,” Brown said. “Every time I get offered by a school, I ask that coach about 33 to see if it’s available.”

What if 33 is taken by another player? Is that a dealbreaker for Brown? “No. I mean, I would love to have it. But if it’s taken, then I’ll just have to work hard. Hopefully when it becomes available, I can earn it.”

At Georgia Tech, 33 is worn by senior Troy Garside, who is listed as safety and A-back, while junior tailback Kalvin Daniels has the number at UGA.

HMMMM. Wasn’t it GT fans that were criticizing UGA coach Mark Richt for offering to hold certain numbers for certain high school players? You mean the great Coach Johnson has to do it too. Oh my, not his greatness. In typical fashion, GT fans spew crap about other schools and then look stupid when it is revealed that their institution is doing the exact thing in which they are criticizing others for doing. When GT loses, all you hear is academic insults and fallacies. Yes, Tech fans are full of crap. No, GT is not above recruiting ploys. No, GT is not the elite academic school that they build it up to be. It is just another school. No, being an engineer is not the be all end all major. That is just GT propaganda. In terms of Kalvin Daniels, his father is not named Kal Daniels. Get a clue. Kal Daniels was an outfield for the Dodgers and is not related to Kalvin Daniels. In terms of bloggers , do you believe your petty begging and arguments have any impact on a high school kid? That is pathetic. Let kids make decisions based on their personal interests and what is best for them. Go DAWGS.

Tech didn’t say they were holding it. Garside will not be using it in 2010 that is a big difference. If Dwyer were #33 then this kid would not have a shot at it until Dwyer left or offered to give the number away.

I remember reading critical comments from several different Technoids regarding the reserving of jersey numbers. Now the wiggling and squirming trying to justify why what Johnson told the kid is different than what other schools do. If those bugs made intelligent comments in the first place, they wouldn’t have to sound so stupid trying to back away.

Hey Mutts,

Learn to read. The kid asked if he could wear #33. #33 is held by a senior on Tech and by a junior on UGA. So, that means if this kid goes to uga, they will tell a senior he has to give up his number. Great way to show respect for your Seniors, Richt. If he goes to Tech, the number can be his because no one will be currently wearing it.

Hold onto what ever number jersey. It won’t do any good. This guy unfortunatley is going to be a gator.

February 28, 2009 10:49 AM | Link to this

You can bet that if a number is currently being used, any coach except maybe Johnson, will ask the player if he minds giving the number up. To not ask would be classless. You made an assumption based upon the character of the coaches you know the best. You obviously don’t know Richt. The critical comments from the bugs were about LSU, UGA, and UT, reserving a jersey (currently used or not). You obviously think holding and reserving are two different things. That argument makes you sound stupid, but don’t worry it at least makes you sound consistent with your bug friends. As an avid LSU fan, it is hard for me to imagine you criticizing any SEC school or coach. You guys were an embarrassment to the game of football in the Chicken Bowl.

As a collective grouping Tech fans are generally full of scat. They have to pump themselves up with some of the most overblown propaganda just to get through their miserable days knocking out CADS drawings in some dark little cubicle, if they are employed at all, and then go home to their pitiful existence of video virtual reality and blowup dolls. They could probably use that time better learning to walk, talk, and chew gum simultaneously, or maybe get some help from a psychological professional to improve their total lack of a social skill set. They could also probably benefit from going back to school to get a better job so as to be able to afford tickets to Tech games which obviously they can’t based on Tech season ticket sales and game attendance. I really feel sorry for them in a way. I don’t think any of us would like going through the days of the typical wannabee something but can’t Tech fan.

All the me firsters that populate the trade school fan base can’t possibly understand the fact that a kid could actually be willing to give up a number for the good of the team team and in that way actually make a contribution that contributes after he is gone. The selfish overblown egomaniac tech fanbase cannot possibly understand such a concept. That is why they are destined to be the losers that they are into eternity and any success that they have is always so short lived. There is no I in team mites. But that just flies right over your big fat heads doesn’t it girls?

To all you Dawg fan’s get a life, who care’s what number any kid wants if that is the main reason to pick a school that is sad, i get sick of who is smarter and how many fan’s are in the stand’s, the Dawg’s should fill the stands even when many never set foot on the campus except for football games, just think the most famous team as for titles at Ga. is not even a men’s team, can you say gymnastics!!! And if the Jacket’s don’t mean anything to Dawg fan why even make a comment!! Let the bashing start.

Tech fans just admit you were morons for saying anything about uga holding a jersey number and you really are. Only a fan who doesn’t know jack about football would make a comment about a team holding a number.. gt does it, every team does it. It’s no big deal. Don’t let mack brown fool you, that #33 jersey means something and for anyone who has played ball and you grow up wearing the same number it is very impt to keep that going.

Hey Jacket,

The kid will be a senior next year in high school when he signs, as will Kalvin Daniels be a senior in Athens. By the time he signed and got into school (assuming it turns out to be UGA) it will be immediately after Daniels has used up his eligibility, so no one will be giving up their number in their senior year. Tech will have to hold the number open for a year if they get Brown.

Next time think before you write something stupid, particularly if you plan to insult somebody else in the same sentence or paragraph.

Counting double 0, there are only 100 jersey numbers on a football team. It is not uncommon for two players on a team to share the same number. They simply won’t be on the field at the same time.

Only one thing is certain: #34 WILL NOT BE USED on any Georgia team IN ANY SPORT. Promising a High School player a number is much better than promising a new car or passing grades.

Well, considering Georgia Tech is a Tier 1 school, the 4th ranked engineering program in the country, the 35th ranked overall institution in the country, I would say…actually, you are incorrect. But I am sure you are quite used to that. Just to be clear, Georgia Tech IS an elite academic school, Georgia Tech DOES have the better football team currently, and you DO come from a tardfactory.

To real dawg, pleeze, lets look at reality. The market has dropped about 3000 points since your main man Obama and his first lady assumed office. So far he is a very much a failure, and it will get worse.

Ready for change here is. America will be living out of cardboard boxes by the time re- election rolls around again. He is over his head and most American’s know it.

Mike Vick will never return to Atlanta, and most fans hopes he never plays again, he is an idiot, that threw his life away over dog fighting? That’s how stupid your hero’s are. From the tone of your comments, you are a racist and nothing else matters to you but the color of skin. I have stayed off these stupid blogs because there is nothing but hatred and stupid opinions, mainly from the bulldog fans.

When I hear someone as ignorant as you comment on politics and of all things, Mike Vick’s importance to the future of Atlanta football team. I cringe at the thought of the stupidity of your reverse racism, and those that still harbor hate for past history.

If you are a UGA student, that explains a lot.

It,s idiots like you that are always rekindling the past as an excuse for failure.

Tech has the EIGHT game winning streak…. national championships stack up in Tech’s favor, but all that is in the past…. it is good that you enjoy reading about college football, but all you did was add to the ‘childish rants’ that you seem to oppose….i’m not trying to be funny and feel no embarrassment in my post….. i’m just questioning your platform when your respond with ‘bumble turd’ and a cry for originality…. your own hypocrisy is as typical of a dawg fan as TechSux’s INABILITY to actually read the article that has inspired these post. whyucry, you are in your element…. regarding your language, i can handle it….i’m saddened by your weak use of an intelligent vernacular!
