Georgia Tech offers Woodward Academy junior RB Delino DeShields

Two-sport star Delino DeShields of Woodward Academy picked up a scholarship offer from Georgia Tech earlier this week.

“Delino and his family had a one-on-one meeting with Georgia Tech’s staff on Thursday, and they extended a football offer to him,” Woodward Academy defensive backs/recruiting coach Ryan Davis wrote in an e-mail. “They will more than likely allow him to play baseball also.”

DeShields is the son of former major league baseball player Delino DeShields.

Woodward Academy defensive end Henry Anderson received an offer from Virginia on Saturday while attending the Cavaliers’ Junior Day.

“I was offered by Virginia coach Al Groh,” Anderson wrote in a text message.

Woodward Academy running back Juwan Thompson attended Junior Day at Tennessee on Saturday.

His father has the same name.

Played for the Expos as a centerfielder/lead-off hitter.

Deshilds SR. was a second baseman, not a center fielder. Also, I don’t think he hit leadoff, not for most of his career at least

It says RATED, not RELATED.

DeShields JR is currently ranked by Baseball America as a 3-star baseball player. That is typical for most good juniors; after their junior year, they will move up the rankings/stars.

I’ve seen him play over at ECB. Don’t know about him as a FB player…

BTW, DeShields SR did bat lead off for the LA Dodgers later in his career.

DeShields senior played both CF and 2B. His natural position was 2B and transitioned to CF to meet team needs. He was a superfast leadoff hitter throughout his career.

DeShields Junior looks like a great baseball prospect. I really hope Tech lands this kid. He’s a great athlete with a lot of potential.
