SW DeKalb DB leaning toward Tennessee after the Vols first to offer
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
One of the area’s most touted juniors, Southwest DeKalb’s Jonathon Mincy is anticipating offers from Georgia and Georgia Tech.
“They are still evaluating my tape,” he said.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound track star currently has offers from Tennessee and Ole Miss. He attended Junior Day at UGA, Tech and Clemson.
Mincy said he was a UGA fan growing up, but he said Tennessee is currently his top choice. “They were the first school to offer,” he said. “They really want me to come up there and compete. But I still have a high interest in UGA and Tech because I want to stay close to home. ”
Mincy said he was supposed to go to Knoxville for Junior Day this weekend, but he has a track meet. He thinks Tech will be the next to offer. “I have gotten a lot of feedback from Tech,” he said. “They seem to really like my tape.”

This is the FIRST and LAST time I will ever unite with Georgia Tech fans on anything. I hate how all these outside schools, Tennessee’s Lane Kiffin in particular, just “mail in” these quick offers to 30-40 of Georgia’s juniors just to be “the first.” Then the kid loves that “first school” because it’s the first. But Tennessee sent out 15-20, and they won’t take commitments from all 15-20 and they’ve probably offered 20+ in Florida etc. Meanwhile, Georgia and Georgia Tech look like the bad guys, or that they are slow to offer the Georgia kids and they really are NOT. They just have to be very responsible because this is Georgia and they have to work those high schools every year. And yes, I think both CMR and CPJ, after reading Donta Aycock today, are honest men full of integrity in recruiting. On this one Tech nerds I’m with you. This is all BS

uga blew it on Tailer Jones, and they drop the ball here lololol lololol. Somebody is asleep the wheel. You know Richt will offer Tailer Jones and Mincy right before signing day like they did with Stephen Hill and that Dacula W.R. You see how well that worked out? lol ha ha hahaa lolol olol lol
45-42 in the game and 1-0 in recruiting (Stephen Hill), 1-0 1-0 1-0 1-0.

it worked out very well for UGA! They got Marlon Brown. Was Stephen Hill at the Under Armour game? Marlon Brown scored the first TD, 70 yd play against elite defenders. Nobody is falling asleep at the wheel. It was a top ten recruiting class! If Orson Charles jumps on board it will be top 5!

uga season ticket holder: great points. I’m a Tech fan that could not agree with you more. I guess the idea is that a player will hold a sentimental spot for the first team to offer. However, once a team (like UT) is forced to pull some of its offers after getting enough commits at a given position, it will be tough to return to those same high school coaches (that watched their kids’ offers pulled) for later kids.

UGAseasonticket holder: Do you mean how UGA has offered Nick Montana and UT has not offered him? Seems Kiffin & Co. offer kids they ae interested in. Maybe they haven’t seen enough of Montana. Seems like UGA has. Throwing out a double standard aren’t you there big guy? Ok for UGA to offer other kids (even juniors) but it isn’t ok for UT to do it. I get it.In case you don’t know, recruiting is a numbers game. Throw enough out there and settle for the best you can get.You big dummy.

The pulling of offers issue is not about the amount signed as much as pulling an offer because better kids have signed.
Every team in the nation offers 2-3 times the amount of kids they can sign. Georgia will offer somewhere around 50-75 players this year.
However, Georgia will not tell a kid who they have offered WHO DECIDE THEY WENT TO COME TO UGA “no” after they make that decision.
Again, the issue is not whether you need 2 WR and 2 of them sign so you tell the remaining unsigned receivers that you are no longer pursuing them.
The issue is what is going to happen at Ole Miss this year where players who have signed are going to be told they don’t have a scholarship.
That is the problem that UGA attempts to completely avoid.

Right. Like the WR that went to Oklahoma. Told by Richt the last weekend “go ahead and leave” while on his official visit to UGA. Of course I’m sure UGA knew they had Marlon Brown the. But up to that point they made the Dacula kid feel like he was their #1 target at WR.

i count 68 offers from Kiffin for the 2010 class. I hope they all call Monday and accept. He will have a difficult time explaining that to all the kids he has to turn down and how about explaining that to all the HS coaches? This guy is a scum bag. Eventually Tenn. is going to regret hiring this guy.

Let’s realize something folks…newspapers aren’t doing very well these days. They have got to get more and more hype going to draw us to their websites because no one is buying print editions. Take this story for example…player “leaning” toward UT…. LOL Riiiiiiight…. He’s a freaking JUNIOR…and he’s got ONE offer…can you really say he’s leaning to anyone? He doesn’t even have any other choices yet. This isn’t even going to be worth paying attention to for another eight or nine months, by which point, if he’s good, he’ll have two dozen offers and a much better idea of who he’s interested in. UT will do no better in Georgia this year than they have in the past…bank on it.
This nonsense is not the fault of Kiffin or Richt or any program…this is the National Enquirer quality of the AJC these days in their desperate attempt to create stories out of nothing. And frankly, if they get 50 comments every time they do, it does work!

Just one question:
(1)What team would win EVERY SEC Championship if teams were restricted to signing ONLY kids from their own state?? Imagine if Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, South Carolina, Vandebilt, Kentucky,Mississippi, and Miss. State COULD not get players from neighboring states?? AND yet many schools with backwoods, miniscule populations with very small number of Division 1 prospects talk about “kids leaving the state”—how in the Hell would they have a chance if kids DIDN’T leave the state?
By the way, I’ll let you guys HONESTLY answer the question of what state would produce SEC Champions and maybe National Champions every year.

MoDawg: Tell me one thing I am wrong about on this thread. It is 100% accurate. The kid that went to OU was told by Richt “go ahead and leave”. In short every SEC coach throws out offfers like candy. Don’t think for a minute that UGA doesn’t have some kid that loses his scholly so they can add an Orson Charles or a MArlon Brown. I’m talking about taking a scholly from a current player because of injury, discipline etc. It’s all legal, and it’s done everywhere. UGA is not exempt. Also, how do you know that Kiffin hasn’t told these kids that they have an offer for now. Accept it now OR you may not have it later. Do you know that isn’t the case? I don’t either. But I’d say he’ll sign a decnt class for 2010.He’ll even pluck 1 or 2 from the state of GA> ( I know it’ll be one you guys didn’t want).

It’s amusing to see folks complain about what Kiffin does when that is the way recruiting is done! Do you think schools only offer 25 kids? Schools tell these players that they will only take a certain number of kids at each position. Once they have commitments at those positions, the others have lost out. That is the way it is done. To make Kiffin look like a bad guy because he has 100 offers our right now, is pathetic. Maybe you should praise him for working extra hard to evaluate talent early and offer. I can assure you he didn’t just start throwing out scholly offers to everyone. How he handled our current recruiting year should tell you that. I know you were watching. Seems like everyone was watching! Maybe you’ll admit there is a little fear that Kiffin will be successful recruiting Georgia. That’s why there is so much attention towards Kiffin. If you see him as a non-factor, maybe a little less attention to him would be warranted. I believe he will get his fair share of Georgia talent. Don’t worry, there is enough to go around.

I didn’t say Kiffin wouldn’t have a good 2010 recruiting class. I said Tenn. will eventually regret hiring this guy.He has already proved that he is a catfish—-all mouth ,no brain.I predict he will have some recruiting violations within 3 years.Like I said they already have 68 offers out for 2010.He’s going to make some HS coaches pretty ticked off. Then he is going to cheat—-he has no loyalty at all to Tenn.,only to himself.

O’Keef,
Anyone that puts in enough time to know how many offers a rival school has given to date MUST GET A LIFE. Put down the mouse, quit typing on the keys, get off your arse and go run around the block to lose a few lb’s off your gut. BTW, how in God’s green Earth do you even know how many offers Kiffin has made? Oh, 45-42, woof.

It’s true that coaches offer many kids. However, CMR tells the kids that there are X number of vaccancies at a given position and whom ever commits has one of those slots and if a slot is filled and a kid wants to commit he let them know the position has been filled. He is up front with them.
He also has told his coaches and to the public time after time that if a coach offers a kid he better be sure and comfortable with that offer because if a kid commits we will not drop him for someone else.

It is so funny to read how delusional some Vol fans are talking about their staff like it is already the best in the SEC. Recruiting wise this past season Kiffin and co didn’t achieve anything better than what Richt, Meyer, Saban or even that doofus Ron Zook in their 1st class with limited time. As coaches the only person on UT’s staff that has something extraordinary on his resume is Monte kiffin and he quit on his last team in the middle of a playoff run. Then as a head coach it’s comedy to listen to you fools think Lane can even come close to matching up with Meyer, Saban, Richt, Spurrier and Miles…Based on what? Because he talks a big game? If that was all it took I bet most of you would get laid a heck of a lot more than you do.
