Florida junior thinks UGA will be a “contender” in 2010

Despite the loss of Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno, Treasure Coast High School junior Jeff Luc thinks UGA will be a contender in 2010.
“They were ranked No. 1 at one point last year, and I’m sure they will correct the mistakes they made and be right back on top,” he said. “Everyone loses players. That’s why they recruit.”
Luc, a 6-foot-1, 235-pound linebacker from Port St. Lucie, is making a Junior Day visit to Athens in March.
The Miami native currently has offers from nearly 12 schools including, Southern Cal, Florida, Miami, FSU, Notre Dame and UGA.
He could not name a favorite, only stating that he liked all the Florida schools.
“I don’t know too much about Georgia, so I definitely want to check them out,” he said.
One of the nation’s top juniors, Luc has been invited to the Under Armour and Army All-American Bowls.

Auburn is sixth school to offer Heritage DB Garry Peters

Auburn is the latest school to offer a scholarship to Garry Peters, a junior cornerback from Heritage High in Conyers.
Peters has received three new offers in the last five days from Alabama, Auburn, and Clemson, according to Heritage defensive coordinator Andy Szatkowski. Peters has six offers, with South Carolina, Central Florida and Maryland being the other three.
Peters is 6 feet, 173 pounds. He attended Junior Day at Georgia.
”Garry is an athlete,” Szatkowski said. “Most schools are recruiting him as a cornerback, but he could play many positions like safety, wide receiver and returning kicks.”

Tennessee Volunteers aggressively recruit Georgia prospects
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
If Lane Kiffin is building a fence around Tennessee, then it may take some time, because he and his staff are surely focusing a lot on the state of Georgia.
The Volunteers created a stir on Friday when they became the first school to offer Gainesville sophomore linebacker A.J. Johnson, one of the state’s top 2011 prospects. Yes, that’s for players signing scholarship papers almost two years from now. And no, it wasn’t Kiffin, but Tennessee assistant Ed Orgeron who delivered the news.
“[Orgeron] asked if any other school had offered A.J. yet … we told him no, and he said ‘All right, then we [Tennessee] are going to be the first,’” Gainesville assistant Todd Wofford recalled.
Tennessee has traditionally recruited very heavily in Georgia. The Volunteers have offered at least a dozen of the state’s 2010 prospects, including two of Johnson’s junior teammates at Gainesville, quarterback Blake Sims and wide receiver Tai-Ler Jones. With the Gainesville trio, UGA or Georgia Tech has only offered one - Jones (Tech).
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Jones said he was surprised by Tennessee’s extra early offer. “I’ve been hearing from a lot of schools, but none had offered. My coaches [at Gainesville] told me that Tennessee wanted to talk with me on the phone, that they were going to offer. I didn’t believe, though, until I heard the coach [Orgeron] say it.
“It was very exciting. Your first offer is special because it’s your first offer. I’m going to work hard, and hopefully I’ll get some more [offers].”
When Johnson was asked what he knew about Tennessee, he said, “They play in the SEC, and they have a defensive coordinator [Monte Kiffin, Lane’s father] who was one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL.”
Johnson had 160 tackles for Gainesville this past season.
