UGA will sign 15 to 20 recruits for 2010 class

Georgia signed 18 football players last week. And that’s about the same number the Bulldogs have targeted for the 2010 recruiting class.

“I would say it’s going to be probably around 15 to 20, somewhere around there,” Georgia recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner said on Wednesday.

Georgia already had five juniors (all from the state) committed on signing day 2008. This year’s signing day passed by without any early pledges. Coach Mark Richt said the Bulldogs are not behind schedule.

“Any given year, who knows?” Richt said. “That’s not normal to have that many [like last year]. That’s probably the first time that’s ever happened in my eight years at Georgia. I wouldn’t say that is the norm or that we’re behind. It’s just the way it went last year.”

They don’t need to sogn hardly anyone. They already have the very best players. They don’t want to recruit too many more just so they can keep things fair to the other teams trying to compete.

If most recruits redshirt then 17 is average number to fit in 85 limit. Obviously some do not use redshirt year, leave early for pros or wash out. Don’t see much of later at UGA, so a 15 to 20 a year is normal reload, hope there are no glaring needs due to injuries as several years ago when so many linemen could not continue. This bodes well for MR style, GA has 150 BCS recruits annnually, UGA gets the pro style offense, TECH will get the hybrid offense kids, I expect in the future there will be more head to head on defensive recruits, maybe 4 to 8 a year that both programs are interested. I hope there is never a year when UGA signs 30+ as some in SEC did this year. It either shows weakness of current team, probablility that recruits don’t qualify (which is a joke) or some signees can not enroll. I would question why a top recruit today with all the transparency that Rivals or Scout give they would want to sign where there are too many others at same level coming in to compete for playing time. Elite players want to play so they can get to Sunday work, prestige of riding pine is not attractive.

This sounds like a ploy to pressure kids into grabbing up the offer before it’s gone.

Does anyone know the status of the lineman from South Carolina that we are still hoping to sign.

DTD,

You’re talking about Kwame Geathers? He visited the Vols in Knoxville on Wed. or Thursday. I believe he will decide sometime this weekend, maybe even today?

Hope he makes the right choice and dons the Red & Black

If you are referring to Kwame Brown, I heard he is Florida bound.

Dad burn it I meant Kwame Geathers (he is set to sign with Florida) I had Bryce Brown on my mind. Brown is set to sign with Tennessee.

DTD, Kwame Geathers was trying to decide between UGA and UCF… then he took a visit to Tennessee a couple days ago. I think we’ll know his decision in the next 24 hours.

He actually eliminated UCF, and will supposedly sign with UF (Florida)

Kwame is set to sign with UGA. Only improves our class that much more. Outside shot he signs with UCF but 90% he is a UGA bound

baloney, I believe you might still be confusing players (hey, it happens w/so many recruits to keep up with). Kwame Geathers is NOT going to sign with Florida because Florida NEVER made him a scholarship offer. It’s down to UGA, UCF, or UT. Maybe he has eliminated UCF (if you know something I don’t) but again, he’s NOT going to Florida cause he ain’t got an offer from the Gators. UGA, UCF, and UT are the 3 schools that he visited within the past 3-4 weeks and these are the 3 schools (among his finalists) that have OFFERED him a scholarship. I agree w/JohnnyDangerDawg (BTW, nice screen name-LOL) 24 hours or so and we should know where Kwame will be playing CFB.

90 percent sure he signs with UGA. Still outside shot he signs with UCF but pretty sure he is a bulldog

Thanks Shane—Sure hope you’re correct?
If he doesn’t come to Athens I just hope he chooses UCF and not Lane “why can’t I keep my pie-hole shut” Kiffin and the Vols. That way I won’t have to HATE him for the next 4 years :)

By keeping it fair

February 13, 2009 12:32 PM | Link to this

Floyd Lawson,

You are right. UGA needs to sign as few a players as possible to “keep it fair”. Otherwise it wouldn’t be fair seeing UGA blowing out other teams they way the blew out the gators last year 49-10 or even the bammers during blackout night. Oh, wait a minute. Didn’t the mighty gators chomp 49-10. On second thoughts go ahead and sign those players. Turns out you’re gonna need all the help you can get after all to “make it fair” against teams like Tim Tebow and the gators.

greg reid is limp. If that is all of the heart this kid has in that he didn’t choose UGA because he would have had to work harder hell I’m glad he went somewhere else. And the “pained look on his face about not choosing the crimzen turd” talk about having to work hard. With his attitude, saban wouldhave run his slack butt off in about 2 seconds!!!!!

It’s all about who keeps who on the field. Injuries, arrests, flops, leaving early for the NFL - recruiting is full of strategy and chance. I think UGA is right at the top in talent every year and will continue to be.

We just need to get a tougher defense with a pass rush (Martinez!!) and a little red zone efficiency on offense.

Scout.com just spoke to Geathers’ dad, Robert Geathers. He said UCF is still very much in the running. He also said he has 3 offers on the table: UGA, UT, and UCF. He also said none of the coaches are pressuring him to decide immediately. Kwame was supposed to announce today, but again pushed back his decision to sometime next week.

So to recap, dawgpound: Kwame Geathers DOES have a standing offer from UGA.

Baloney, Bryce Brown is visiting ut, but will not sign with tennessee.. Hate to rain on your parade.

Kwame Geathers will be a bulldog. He is going to decide within the next two weeks and even though ucf is in it, he will be a dawg.

what a surprise, kwame has an offer after uga sports CONFIRMED with richt did NOT have an offer. uga sports hasn’t been the same since they lost CS. ive cancled my rivals subscription

Ralph, UGASports is a great site. They have some of the best articles and are very well run. CS is great as well, but his replacement KA is also very good. You can’t expect KA to be as good as CS is right away, but he is building those relationships and ugasports signing day coverage this year was much better than last year and better than dawgpost. I have subscriptions to both and dawgpost was just dead and not very good on signing day. Very disappointed with dean and company.

BTW for anyone interested in recruiting.. there is a great and i mean great Q&A with barry every who is a rival’s talent guy and boy it’s something. You have to be a paid member but to me it was well worth it. I love dawgpost also, but no one has this good of a Q&A out there.

Recruitnik. I have a membership to both UGASports and Dawgpost, and both were awful on signing day. If the truth be told, the AJC blew both of them out of the water with articles on signing day. I know, I know, I never thought I would say that …

By Another Rivals guy

February 13, 2009 6:48 PM | Link to this

Let me second that. CS was showed the door at UGASports for many many many many reasons. With that said, yes KA is struggling with learning everything, but he’ll be OK when it counts down the road.

Until Kwame’s Dad releases his grades, he isn’t signing with anyone. The Geathers family does everything different than anyone else. Just look at his brother’s recruitment. Clifton signed with UGA, went to prep school and then signed with USC. Watch for similar things from Kwame. UGA will know you have him when you see him on campus. Maybe.

Some 330+ OT’s would be nice, just make sure they can move there feet, attack at the snap, and bleed RED&BLACK. One noseguard that’s at least 320lbs, can stop the run, and bleed RED&BLACK. Two DE’s, that are quick to shed blockers, can get to the QB, and bleed RED&BLACK. And last but not least a guy that everybody says is a winner, won’t quit, brings a pale to practice, and the game, and yes, bleeds… well you know RED&BLACK!
