Tennessee reports another recruiting violation by Lane Kiffin

The University of Tennessee is reporting a third secondary recruiting violation involving new football coach Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin, in a radio interview Friday morning, mentioned recruit Bryce Brown by name and called him “a great player.”

According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, NCAA rules prohibit a coach from making such comments before the prospect has signed a letter of intent.

Earlier this week, the school reported violations for a mock news conference held by nine prospects during an official visit to the university, and for using a fog machine as a recruit entered the field at Neyland Stadium.

Additionally, Kiffin was reprimanded last week by Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive for falsely accusing Florida’s Urban Meyer of a recruiting violation.

Earlier this week, the AJC asked UGA coach Mark Richt if he had a “direct” response to Kiffin’s comments involving Georgia.

Seriously now. At what point does UT cut their losses? Spurrier may have had something when he questined whether Lame Kiffin took the coaches’ test. There is going to be an unparalleled amount of pressure on this clown.

What in the hell did the UT AD see in this clown? He has managed to alienate half the SEC in just two motnhs, in addition to almost weekly violations. Much more of this and even Spurrier will seem classy. UT had better get real good, real quick, or it will be a long season on Rocky Top.

Read this carefully. Last season under ex-coach Phil Fulmer, UT self-reported 7 secondary violations. You read anything about those? No, of course not. Do you think any other SEC schools had secondary violations that you didn’t see in print? Of course, they did.

What you have is some leftovers inside the athletic department at UT who still feel sorry for Fulmer that are running to the media with any snippet of anything to show Kiffin in a bad light. Granted the coach has been a magnet for bad publicity, but the guy is being stabbed in the back, maybe by some of the same people who helped Fulmer and friends push Majors out the door.

So, in summary, it’s been three secondary violations that won’t penalize Tennessee in any way, but is still less than half committed last year. You just get all the Kiffin news good and more importantly, bad, quicker than you would have under the old administration.

Just be impressed that UT goes overboard in self-regulation instead of burying stuff like so many others do…even 70 miles up the road in Athens.

Ryno, the problem is we’re only three months or so into his tenure. At this rate, it’s a dozen or so a year. Sportsline had a great line last week in an article about Kiffin. He’s born on third base (‘cause of daddy) and thinks he hit a triple. He got the Raider job because of his name and the UT job for the same reason. No success as a head anywhere, I don’t think.

Yeahbut, he’ll slow down. Just a quick google search showed that the Dawggies had five in the first six months of last year, but cleaned it up in the second half of the year…or maybe, just didn’t recruit after that, who knows.

The guy wasn’t allowed to put his own staff together at Oakland, so he was at odds from the start with Al. Trust me, the guy is working as hard as anyone you can mention to prove he is a good coach. Working with a chip on your shoulder to prove you belong causes you to make mistakes.

He’ll be fine. We’ll be fine, and yes UT-Florida might finally be must see TV again…the way it’s supposed to be.

UT pays Ogeron $650.000 dollars a year to recruit. The had one of the worst recruiting classes in the SEC west. The fence they built around Tennessee was made of paper UGA got two of the states best. Coach “O” shows up to kids house supposedly drunk and drops the GD bomb on his Christian family. Kiffin calls out most of the prominent coaches in the league while his own resume is weak as hell. He may (which I doubt) know football but, he’s shown early and loud he knows nothing about winning in this league. FATPHIL looks like a genius compared to this clown.

UGA incurred 14 secondary violations total last year, for the ENTIRE athletic department. 2 of those 14 violations were by the football team.

So, Michael, you have proved once again that UT fans are complete idiots. Your stupid coach who has no qualifications or experience to be in his position (seems like that’s a theme in this country now) has already proven he’s in over his head.

What’s even more scary about this fool, is that he was supposedly the RC for USC (this was his big accomplishment that the UT morons love to parrot), yet he apparently doesn’t know any of the NCAA rules at all in that regard. You would think if he was the RC for USC that he would know the rules, but he clearly doesn’t.

If he can’t even get the recruiting rules correct, why in the hell should any one believe this mental midget will be an effective head coach? He was an abomination at Oakland (keep in mind that Gruden was very successful there with the same crazy owner and went to a super bowl), but we are suppose to believe that little Lane will somehow put it all together in the SEC.

This will be very fun to watch unfold. Every SEC team is licking their chops at this point, as UT seems to be a wounded antelope on the African Savannah with this dolt running the show.

Take your idiotic left wing rantings else where you stupid fool. This is a sports blog. Before you insult other people’s intelligence, I suggest you brush up on your basic grammar and spelling, as you come across as a complete dunce. However, that is assumed when it comes to an Obama supporter.

However, since you opened this political can of worms, I guess I’ll elucidate further. Let’s just stop this ridiculous notion that Obama is such a great speaker. It’s been shown that whenever this charlatan doesn’t have a teleprompter in front of him, he just stutters and stammers his way through everyone of his explanations.

I’m sorry, but nobody who is great speaker or great mind has to say ‘ummmmm’ or ‘uhhhhhhh’ every 10 words (along with abrupt pauses). Odumbo has been completely exposed when there isn’t a teleprompter, but ignorant fools like you aren’t capable of making that simple observation. But alas, you are an Obama supporter, so the expectation of reasoning shouldn’t ever be assumed.

To the UT folks. You’re a little delusional, if you think this guy is going to come in and put UT at the top of the SEC East. Tennessee is a fine school and you have a great football tradition, but you do have a big problem in your own state. And that problem is a limited number of high caliber players. UT’S 2009 recruiting class consists of 20 players, with only 6 from the state of Tennessee. You signed 4 from Georgia and 3 from Florida. Maybe all of these kids were being recruited from Georgia and Florida and UT went out and just took them, but I do not remember most of these names being heavily pursued by either school. Georgia has the luxury of being able to focus in their home state and then try to grab a kid here or there. Florida is in an even better position than Georgia is. Both of these schools are well coached and have much deeper talent pools in school right now. The rest of the east is no cake walk, and you play a much tougher opponent in Alabama than you used to play. I thought CLK got a raw deal out in Oakland. I’m beginning to wonder if maybe he got what was coming to him. Maybe he will come in and take the East, beat Bama, then beat LSU in the SEC Championship game and play for a National Championship his first year, but I think 7-5 (at best 8-4) before the bowl game is a little more realistic. Then, we’ll find out how patient the UT fan base is, especially if he continues to put his foot in his mouth. I will give him this, for a late start, he made a nice run at some high profile recruits and managed to get UT’S name up for consideration for some kids who had written them off. That’s the beauty of this, we can pontificate all we want; but we will know how talented UT really is until they kick it off. Had the talent level dropped off that much, or had the game surpassed Fulmer or was it a combination of the two? If he’s 6-6 first year, he had better improve in his second or I’m quite confident that there will not be a third and you guys will be in worst shape then than you ever were under Fulmer. Finally, for what it is worth, I’m not rooting against you. We need for Tennessee to be strong for the good of the conference; I just want you to lose at least one game a year. See you in Knoxville.

Everyone seems to forget the the “idiot son” still has the “genius father” on his coaching staff. Monte may be his salvation in the end. And…by the way….”ugh”…when it comes to idiots, you might just be looking in the mirror. You might not like the current President (and most didn’t like the one…President George W. Bush…that just left), but one thing about Obama (and you don’t even have the decency and respect to correctly spell the name of the “Presdident of the United States”) is that he is NO moron. You have about 1/100th of the intelligence that President Obama has…and I can say that even though I have no abiding interest in politics. But I do have respect for my President, whomever the President might be, even if I agree or disagree with him or her. I suggest that if you can’t can’t have respect for the President of your country, then maybe you should find some other country and president (or dictator in your case) that might be better than the one you are currently living in…in fact, I strongly encourage you to do so.

So, the new head coach has made some mistakes. Now we know. He’s not perfect. Did you really believe that he was? Too bad. I feel your pain. Then, some of you jump to political bashing. Here we find that neither one of these presidents are perfect either. What a shocker. Guess the new coach has had a pretty good recruiting class. UT might end up being a pretty good team next year. That worries some fans of the other schools.
The best way to derail this train? Have UT fire the guy. How do we do that? A word attact might work. At least, we’re trying.

One other thing…I am actually wishing Kiffin success in Knoxville. Agree or not, the SEC was a little down last year. The Vols and Auburn not have winning seasons last year was one major reason why. Kentucky and Vandy are getting better, and the SEC needs the Vols and the Auburn Tigers to be a good team every year. With Florida, Georiga, Alabama, LSU, and now Mississippi being strong, the SEC needs a comback by Tennessee and Auburn. So I personally wish Kiffin would just shut his mouth and work with his father (and keep “O” sober and let him recruit, not coach too much) to build back a strong team in Knoxville, so when the Gators beat them almost every year, then it will mean something. And the win next year against the Vols ALREADY MEANS SOMETHING to the Gators, and especially to Meyer. The Vols game next year might be bigger than even the Georgia game…believe it or not. I still don’t believe things were entirely Kosher with the NuKeese Richardson thing. He was ALL Gator and turned way too fast to me…only time will tell. But NuKeese also was afaid of the Gator depth chart at WR. He would not have seen the field for two or three years in Gainesville. He probably will start next year in Knoxville if he gains some weight.

While I’m glad Kiffin doesn’t coach at my alma mater, hyperbole about him ‘angering’ opposing coaches is fairly benign.

On the other hand, he’s taking significant risks by being seen as a loudmouth by recruits and high school coaches. His biggest gaffe was making bad jokes about an area he recruited. Here’s what I wonder: how did this guy keep his foot out of his mouth when he was recruiting at USC?

OK Lame Kitten just stop it now! Because I’d much rather watch you run the Vols into the ground than deal with Gruden every year! If Lane hasn’t signed the contact & I’m UT I pull the staff aside clear bringing in Gruden with them. Maybe give Lane the option of staying as OC. At this rate he’s going to have them on probation & be fired before he even coaches a game. I HATED Foolmer so it’s hard for me to grasp that Kiffin is already more hated across the SEC than Fulmer was. If UT some how lands the all 4 of the kids still out there then the NCAA better take a look at that!

The political naivete on this blog is astounding. To those who bash Obama….sorry, rednecks he’s your president and you’re going to have to live with it. You can rationalize in your head that you’re the smart one and that everyone else who voted for him is just a big idiot and I’m sure you know it all and are soooo bright….but that’s not going to change the fact that he is our new leader and he deserves at least a chance.

Now, you can either be like comedian Rush Lim-blah and hope that he fails (i.e. hope that our country fails), or you can try and move the country forward and stop assuming that Democrats are complete idiots and have no idea what they’re doing(fat chance of that, I know). Also, at what point do you stop defending GW Bush?? I mean, people actually have a reason to dislike him….wars, the economy, the out-of-control spending in this gov’t, jobs deminishing….. we are judging him on his results, not our pre-conceived notions. His economic plan was nothing more than lowering taxes and now, in the face of a complete catastrophuck, the Repubs once again think all we have to do is lower taxes some more and that will just take care of it. Did you guys get repeatedly dropped on your heads when you were children?? Wake up….we have to try something a little more aggressive and maybe even risky to pull up out of the tail-spin becasue what we did before didnt work!!

So, Obama will definitely NOT get it all right….he is not perfect nor omniscient….there wil be mistakes and mis-steps….he did not create the mess we’re in but he did ask for the job….the people voted for him….now give him a chance. Judge him by his actions and his results…he said himself if what he does doesnt work we will have a different president in 4 years. That’s accountability….somethign we havent heard or seen in at least 20 years. All you haters out there I’m wondering at what point you became a Republican and stopped being an American. Get it together folks.

Signing a coach that didn’t have any intelligence, all he would do would be to run the ball. He dressed sloppy; he had never won anywhere in a BCS conference. TampaGator- How can a guy from FU who has everything going for him to crow in our ear not do so? You think of the SEC welfare overall before you tout your own team. You just cranked the college football fan ladder up a notch. You are truly a wise fan with respect for your opponent(s). And you deserve respect in return. You are correct….We want Tenn to succeed to a certain point because we selfishly want to be proud of our team when and if we beat them. UGA had hollow victories this year over Tenn and Aub. It just didn’t feel good to crow when fellow institutions are down. We should all be proud of a healthy SEC and wish it to continue. There hasn’t been too much joy in Mudville when we were experiencing a down year, but I truly feel for those fans for Tenn and Aub and won’t feel right until they get rolling again. The victories are much sweeter for all of us when we don’t have a clue as to who will win a game going in and we pull it out.

If Kiffin was at UGA under the same circumstances, I would feel pretty small about now. So do many of the Tenn folks. I join those fans from Tenn who were never against Coach PF and always felt he was a class act. Then the Bama frenzy over illegal recruiting remarks about Bama’s cheating made him the vitriolic target for their own shame. Never mind that others cheated, never mind that players testified, never mind that other coaches report violations especially when queried by the NCAA. They just carried out their frustration on Phil, a good man and coach. As a Dawg, I feared his coaching most of all. So did FU. So did Vandy. So did So Car. So did Kentucky. So did any team that was his SEC West opponent any year. How does a respected coach get dumped for this guy? Sure, Coach PF had good assistant coaches, but it sounds like the ones left will get trashed by the new coach by him not taking responsibility for losing the two best in his state to UGA. If Phil was still there we would not have pulled that rare double-coup. Period. SO, we feel for you fans and will be glad when you get back up on that horse. Same goes for Aub with Chizik. We have gotten used to your competition and it is no fun whatever to beat you when you are down. Starting with Valentines Day 2009, we wish you the best.

UGA-Tech series was best when one had a great record that we could destroy. Then you felt like a champion albeit only for a year.

TampaGator is correct about our politics as well. By the way-does anyone want to buy a collection of Bushisms? I have 365 of them on a calender. And while some of you lame-brains probably haven’t digested it yet, President Obama is the Commander-in-Chief of all US Armed Forces. The most powerful man on earth. The most well-spoken President since FDR and Kennedy. Did everyone know that he was Law Review(Top10% of his class) at Harvard and President of the Law Review at Harvard? That makes him the brightest President we have ever elected.

To all my Tenn friends; I hope Kiffin doesn’t turn out to be your Bush. It appears that he will give him a run for his money.

It occurred to me that Kiffin has read the NCAA regs on recruiting, but the question should be WHEN? He had to have read them if he recruited for USC, but they add on to them through the years. Has he read them LATELY? Maybe Spurrier had a point!

sapelodawg-Good point!

LifeLongHawksFan - Yes, Kiffin was a recruiter at USC. Do you think they get all those great players by following the rules? Who was in charge of recruiting when Reggie Bush decided to go to USC?

P.S. Just how painful is it to be a life long hawks fan? I’ve suffered through many a season hoping those guys would get better.

Tennessee must receive some sort of punishment for these violations….if not why do we have rules?… everybody should be able to mention recruits names and have mock news conferences. they should lose 3 schlorships for several seasons…maybe he will not be so careless next time….why is the NCAA giving this guy a pass? this guy is reckless…he is another Jackie Sherrill…he has only been at rocky top for several months and he is already showing signs of winning at all cost….GO Dawgs…Go Gators ..Go Alabama…Go everyother team except the cheating arrogant coach Kiffin at Rocky Top!

Vandy,

Very few people genuinely “hate” Obama as you think. You just naturally assume that because liberals naturally hated Bush with a passion before he even set foot in the office. He never had a prayer of a chance that you are asking that Obama be given.

In regards to Obama most people simply disagree with his policies which according to empirical historic evidence will sink us further into depression and in 1-2 years we will most certainly experience double digit hyperinflation.

If you could put aside your ideology and if you had the most basic understanding of economics(especially monetary policy) and economic history you would readily see that what is going on now with the stimupork bill is a recipe for disaster. People like Rush Limbaugh want him to fail now because his policies are going to herald economic devastation.

The beauty of what Obama is doing is that he can’t lose. If his economic plan succeeded (which it won’t) then he can claim success and continue in office. However, if we sink even deeper into depression similar to the great depression in the 1930s then people like you will clamor for even more big government control and interference. Why? Because at that point things would be so catastrophically disastrous that people like you would believe the only thing that can save people is yet even bigger government. Learn some economic history before you start spouting off ideological gobblegook.

longtimedawg- Hold on! You will bury us all with that talk. We all have violations. You need to distinguish between secondary violations and outright cheating violations. Biiigg difference. UGA gave a guy a t-shirt one year and Danny Ford of Clemson did payback on us for Dooley reporting his dirty recruiting. Ford lost scholarships and we ended up on probation for a lousy t-shirt. Read and understand the “violations” before you type. They were self-reported by Tenn.

It amazing how the dems want to defend Bezerk Obama and want us to all get behind him for the sake of our country, but had no trouble running down Bush and anything he did.The man did keep us safe from another attack from 9-11 until he left office.Where was the respect for the position and office of president for the most powerful man in the world when Bush was in office.Obama’s already had more of a honeymoon, than Bush got eight years ago.

LouVales- I’m glad you capped the”L” on Lou. It used to read “iou”. I’m just going to dub you “FU”Vales because that’s where you are from. TampaGator already gave us food for thought, here. You might read his blogs to pick up the “why” of the “who” from FU that we welcome on our blog. How are you since we spoke last time? Wiser? TampaG has upped the blog by going SEC instead of turning inward. Nice food for thought for all us bloggers.

UgaVII- We have to go out on the town together. How about in Jax. I’ll show you how to drink 4 big plastic cups of beer and share the filtered product with all the FU vehicles in the parking lot. Nine in a row sound impressive? And you can leave a special present in the pickups. Of course, if you can’t go with me I’ll have to bag my two dog’s pooh (sounds like a good name for a band) and distribute without you.

Hey Vandy and Obama - “Most people” are not economists either. The majority of them, including Republican economists of note have endorsed the spending stimulus as necessary. I realize facts are annoying but they are facts none the less. The repubs have been in charge of the economy and led us into this mess. And get ready - the south is the only place left, with the possible exception of some western states left for repubs. The demographics, they are a changin. Repubs have two choices : 1. Radically change their platform or

  • Forget about winning any national elections soon.
  • And this is coming from a white guy who fought in Vietnam for his country who is tired of the national republican facist party as led by Rush Limburger. Hows his leadership working out for ya?

I’ve said it since the annoucement of LAME KITTEN being named UT head coach. He will get them in trouble. All of you Rocky Toppers, called me on it, when he got in trouble in South Carolina, one of the violations not yet publicly reported. Now there are 3 publicly reported. His family history of violations, NC State, and where ever dad was before that, UCLA troubles (Ogreton) leave you to know one thing where there is smoke, there is fire.

If he didin’t have enough integrity for Al Davis and the NFL, do you really think he can make it in the NCAA, and especially the competitive SEC.

I hope he changes, and I wish UT well, but you just need to know what you have gotten yourselves into.

Mike and Vandy, You folks seriously think Bush deserves a pat on the head because our homeland only got attacked once on his watch? Not since Pearl Harbor has that happened to that degree and you think that he did something good cause it didn’t happen twice on his watch? Just keep applauding him and the economy he created, see how that works out for ya. Vandy, we have the worst economy since the Depression and you have the nerve to give economic advice? Typical, you guys dig a hole and then proceed to criticize anyone trying to repair the damage. As for Limbaugh, he made more sense when he was on the oxycontin. You guys need to run Limbaugh and Molly Moose Hunter next election. You can have your hero Bush endorse them. The platform can be outsourcing more jobs, cutting taxes for the wealthy and corporations to zero, and expertise in managing the economy. See how that works out for ya.

Don’t give us that BS about Republicans ruining the economy. We have had a Democrat congress for several years. Congress makes ALL the calls. The only thing a president can do is (1)Sign bills into law, (2)Veto bills & (3) Commander-in-chief of the military. Bush had a 29% approval rating. Congress(Democrat controlled) had a 16% approval rating. Bill Clinton started the huge downfall by pressuring the lending institutions to loan money to those who never came close to qualifying for such loans(I guess that makes (4) things a president can do).Go Dawgs and go SEC.

Indepentent Observer….you got me confused with another poster, I’m not one one supporting Repubs or bashing Obama. Some guy was responding to my original post and called himeself “Vandy and Obama” and proceeded to tell me that people “judged” Bush before he stepped in to office. While that may be true, I wasnt one of them, and now he is doing the same thing to Obama. Basically, get over it folks he’s your president you can cry, kick, and scream about it or you can grow up and realize that the masjority of people WANT to give his policies a chance.

Like I said before, if you have something substantive to debate I think that’s great….but all you “NObama” folks, get a life….it’s not like he let our country get attacked on his watch and then started a war with the people who had nothing to do with it….when he does that I’ll take one of those “Nobama” stickers too. Until then, shut it.

WE will recruit the best, we will get the best, some we will get fair, some we may not, but we’ll still get them! Tennessee will be fraking loaded with talent in about 2 or 3 yrs, and we will win the SEC on a regular basis..get use to it, We do not expect to do it in yr one, although I would not be suprised to beat Georgia, and we will beat Auburn… And bama and fla may win, but it will be a fight…90% of FB is desire and attitude, and this team will have plenty of that!
