DEL.ICIO.USGeorgia Tech’s pep talk helped land Collins Hill RB Charles Perkins

Collins Hill tailback Charles Perkins committed to Tech two months after being offered. He saw no reason to wait, citing proximity to home, academics and winning.
“When I get there, I feel like [Tech] will be competing for the ACC championship every year, along with the national championship,” he said.
A pep talk from Tech assistant Jeff Monken helped push Perkins over the top.
“He said, ‘When you’re searching for a wife and you find the one you want to marry, you don’t need to keep searching around or dating hundreds of others.’ That really stuck with me. In other words, he was saying if you find the right college, there’s no need to keep searching.”

Who said he’s going to Tech to find a wife? I thought he was going to play football and get a quality education at great college. Now on the other hand if he were going to go, lets say ugay, maybe he would have a different agenda. How big is the city of atlanta? How many other universities are in atlanta compared to cow town athens. When was the last time ugay won a national championship? Teknique- Thanks for acting in typical mutt-like fashion and mis-interpreting the data that Wreck7 provided. Fact is, Nesbitt and Cox were in different recruiting classes, and therefore each QB’s rating is only relative to his respective class. The only stat that can be used to compare the two would of course be Nesbitt’s 4 stars vs. Cox’s 3. Using your logic, Cedric Benson (#4 draft pick in ‘05 to the Bears) is better than Adrian Peterson (#7 in ‘07). I see why nobody hires UGA grads. I don’t see why people still insist on attending.

Not sure what you’re not understanding. Cox was rated the number 7 QB coming out, Nesbitt number 9. In case you weren’t aware, the lower the number the higher you’re ranked. Therefore the statement stands to reason. Cox was the higher ranked QB coming out of high school.
Heck, even Logan Gray was a 4-star recruit in Nesbitt’s class.
7 > 9 in rankings. Sorry that bruises your ego.

Okay, so Cox was ranked higher, in his class, but Nesbitt has 4 stars, vs. 3….So again, moral victory for you in that Cox was ranked higher, in his own class, than Nesbitt was in his class. But 4 stars > 3 stars. I imagine that you brag about uga being ranked higher at the end of the season than GT, even though on the field, GT > uga.

Teknique- you are ignoring logic. Cox was #7 compared to the QBs that year but was a 3-star player. Nesbitt was the #9 rated QB in a stronger class, thus he carried 4 stars. The Peterson-Benson analogy was a good one.

3 point win. First win in 8 years and GT fans think they’ve arrived. They couldn’t even complete their GLORIOUS season in their own backyard. What was it again, 38-3? Who beat LSU again? Wow, THREE TIMES IN A ROW? Unlike you, I’ve got to sit back, smile and enjoy our 7 game streak. Tech fans need history books to tell them about their longest. Sad your glory days were long before your grandparents were even born.
UGA didn’t beat anyone of consequence because they didn’t play in any time of championship game. Unlike Tech fans, we don’t consider beating them as a game of “consequence.” Just a routine season.
A 3 point win isn’t a “trouncing.” But I can see how it is to such a mediocre team in the weakest BCS conference. And Tech isn’t even in the top 3 of UGA’s rivals. You’re as irrelevant to UGA as you are the pathetic ACC and obviously the national landscape.
UGA plays in the toughest conference and division in college football. Tech can’t even compete in the weak ACC. UGA has won their division 3 times so far in the Richt era. Johnson will never win one before he’s fired.
Tech helps keeping the GBI on their toes with their rapists and drug Lords and student terrorists making bombs.
UGA didn’t lose a single “top recruit” to Tech. Hill was a literal last minute addition until UGA landed a top 3 receiver in the nation and Richt cut Mr. Hill loose.
UGA has won the SEC twice in just 8 years. Johnson will never win even the far less competitive and relevant ACC before he’s fired.
Whatever you tools have to tell yourselves to sleep at night. We do enough the comedy!!

I’m starting to think the majority of the self-proclaimed Tech fans on here are actually mutts trying to make us look stupid.
Anyone that thinks the 2007 QB class is better than the 2005 is just plain stupid.
‘05 had Mark Sanchez, Colt McCoy, Chase Daniel, John Parker Wilson, Ryan Perrilloux , Matt Grothe, Dan Lefevour, Zac Robinson, Darryl Clark, just to name a few.
‘07 was God awfully weak. Jimmy Clausen, Tyler Lorenzen and Tyrod Taylor are the only ones of note.
Not to mention Cox was considered a pro-style QB, while Nesbitt was rated as a dual. The pro-style rakings are annually more stacked with the top talents coming out of high school.
So yes, Cox’s class was far more superior and his ranking is more impressive. It doesn’t change anything on the field. Nesbitt is getting it done and has beaten UGA. Cox has done what, beat Colorado?
For all you plants on here pretending to Tech fans to make us look stupid please stop. And if, God forbid, you’re actual Tech fans and know nothing about football then please stop posting as well. You’re dragging us more knowledgeable fans down.

The ACC had their best season as a conference in ACC history. How many teams did you have in bowls? 9, 10? And what was your bowl record again?
The SEC had an incredibly down year as a coference, but yet the ACC could only go 6-6 against them? The SEC was 6-2 in their bowls as well, not to mention picking up its 3rd National Title in a row. Do you need me to draw it out for you with a crayon?

Is there a single Tech fan, other than gt alum, that knows anything about the school you supposedly pull for? “Your” longest streak wasn’t 7. And it also occured in a time that your parents probably weren’t even born in yet. UGA has 2 nationally recognized National titles. They have 5 that they could claim if they were like Tech. They’ve been named 12 times as a National Champion.
UGA won the last title that was SOLELY theirs. Tech shared one with a far better Colorado team, which most experts claim as the hands down champion from 1990.

Reality I hate to break it to you but there are many beautiful and intelligent women out there at Tech. Just go to Phi Mu or Zeta sorority houses. I’m not trying to say that the women at Tech are better than at Athens, because Athens does have better women.

Even most real Tech fans can find the hilariousness in that. Tech is a sausage fest full of foreigners. If you can’t admit to that then you’ve clearly never been on the campus.
Why does it anger you to have someone point out the truth? None of you “Tech fans” were alive to witness Tech’s streak. None of you were alive to witness any of Tech’s greatness that occurred around the Great Depression. It’s sad you have to hang your hat on historical trivia that you weren’t apart of. I can see why that makes you so bitter.
I know most UGA fans wouldn’t be excited about a National Championship that we really didn’t win, but instead shared with a far better team that actually played a real champion’s schedule. Tech didn’t win the ‘90 championship, as well you know. Most college football historians only acknowledge Colorado as the champion in 1990, and not Tech since there was clearly a coaches revolt that year and they used Tech with their pathetic schedule as their vehicle to make their point.
Will you educate us more on how the 2007 QB class was SUPERIOR over the 2005 class? :)

I find it hilarious that BigHomo brought up “rape”. The UGA plantation of workerss, er footballers, run rampant on their fan-provided motorcycles, SUVs, while drinking, raping and getting thrown in jail. Unfortunately, the city father s in Boagrt and Athens area have a way of turning a blind eye to any Mutt miscreants.

To all you Ga. fans you need to be a little hesitant on all your praise on J. Cox. Tenn. thought they had a good QB. in Clausen whom happened to be a very highly rated QB coming out of high school. The QB position can make you or break you in the college game. Auburn, Tenn. and LSU are 3 examples in the SEC that had down seasons because they put so much stock in their QB. Auburn and Tenn. QB’s were subpar at best and this greatly reflected on their teams season. Of course LSU’s QB turned out to be an idiotic thug. I know this first hand because what we Tech fans had to endure with Reggie “ME” Ball as our QB. I feel good about our QB now and think GT is moving in the right direction. As far as GA. beating us this year I don’t see it. I look forward to a renewed rivalary with you. I think with coach PJ at the helm we will hold our own against you. My hope for this season is for GA. to win the SEC and for TECH to win the ACC. GOOOOOOOO TEEEECH!!!!!!

A 4 or 5 star QB recruit in ‘07 was probably equal to a 3 or 2 star in ‘05. The classes are in entirely different worlds in that category. To have been a top 10 QB in ‘05 was quite an accomplishment compared to the garbage that was produced in ‘07. Nesbitt is a good QB, but he was clearly an overrated 4 star. I don’t care if we have a zero star walk-on. If he can run the show and win the games its all relative.

Who is actually trying to debate the better team from 1990? Everyone and their mother knows it was Colorado. Tech had one of the weakest strength of schedules out of all the ranked teams that year.
If they would have play Colorado’s schedule they would have had at least 4 losses
