South Paulding DB Ryan Ayers considers committing to Georgia Tech
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Less than two weeks after he attended Junior Day at Georgia Tech, the Jackets have become an early leader to land a commitment from South Paulding cornerback Ryan Ayers.
“I’m very interested in Georgia Tech,” said the 5-foot-10, 178-pound Ayers, who received a scholarship offer from Tech on Jan. 31. “I just like them right now.
“If I get to like the school a lot and get comfortable, I might commit early. I’m definitely going to go back and watch them practice in the spring.”
Ayers has offers from Arkansas, Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt.
One of Ayers’ Junior Day highlights was meeting Tech coach Paul Johnson.
“I got to talk to all of the coaches, including the head man, the big man, coach Johnson.
“I really like him. He’s down to earth and someone I could sit down and have a conversation with.”

Georgia Tech does not offer scholarships to athletes with a low SAT score. Those are reserved for SEC schools.

Some of the guys that are high on GT right now are getting some national attention already. I see that as a very good thing right now.

Kiffen already has a bunch of recruitng violations. UT will be on probation within 4 years and may have a dead program with 110,000 empty seats. Too bad because they have a great fan base and a national program. One of their new position coaches threatened any in-state recruit who would dare go outside the state.
If GT only has a few ships for next year, they should get some top athletes. Dbacks are very much needed and a good kid could have a chance at starting in 2 years. Glad we are focussing on GA kids.

Maddog, I’ll ask you the same question I ask Reality Yech, why 8 years why not 9, 10 or 11? Do you discuss your last 8 (or even 18) years against the Gators? What is so special about 8? Is it possible it is an arbitrary number that suits your purpose today, with no logical or scientific foundation. Yes they are still Tech. One of the most respect colleges in the country, whose fans and alumni think grades and character are more important than football. That’s why they look down on you and that’s why you can’t shake your inferior feelings. Accept anyone and everyone just to win and still loose to Tech in your national championship season, hmmmm, now I would think the Tech fans would be LTAO.

Steve Superior, what a lame post.
If past performance means nothing, then the 2008 season should mean nothing. Only a moron would think like that. I guess in your world your past performance is not relevant when pursuing a career change.
So Tech’s “fans and alumni think grades and character are more important than football”? If that’s the case, then why all the loudmouths talking smack about GT football? According to you they don’t care about football - just grades and respect.
By the way, genious, if you’re one of the Tech “brilliant people” than why would you say tech is “one of the most respect colleges…”, and “accept anyone and everyone just to win and still loose to tech… ROTFL.
Thanks for the laugh, Mr. Respected Grades. Care to try again?

Minnesota Jacket - go ahead and bring the numbers. Just be sure they are ONLY for Tech’s athletes. Go ahead and include basketball in addition to the football players. Be sure the numbers include the average SAT score for your bball and fball players, their declared majors, their grade point averages, and their graduation rate. I believe you’ll find they are no better than the average D1 college.
Please, MJ, do bring it on!

O’keefe 59. Sorry if my last post was a little too harsh.
Of course football is entertainment, and so are these blogs. Grades and character ARE more important which is why my kids are in Christian schools.
What I find particularly amusing is many Tech fans talking about how they recruit only the smart athletes. Stephon Marbury? Reggie Ball? etc, etc.
I admit UGA (as do most colleges, including Tech) allows marginal students on campus if they are athletes. As frustrating as that is, how else will many of these kids ever be able to have the chance to get a college degree? There will be no soluction in the near future, so we have to make the best of it as it stands.
That being said, let’s keep the taunts going back and forth. Have a great day!

1) You accuse Tech fans of “hiding” behind UF which is not true, yet as of last December every UGA fan in America was hiding right behind LSU and their victory.
2) I don’t care what you say about our athletes, personally I know they go to class because I see them on campus everyday. I saw Jaybo Shaw and Iman Shumpert going to class just yesterday. I know our athletes are better qualified and have better character than most (not all) at Georgia. You can accuse us of those couple that had problems, but don’t we all problems? At least our team doesn’t make the weekly news about who was charged with DUI and such.

reality check i have been saying that for so long. I actually have a few classes with football and basketball players. Nick Claytor….the starting LT is very insightful in class discussions. They all go to class, PJ and PH make damn sure the players go to class. Now graduation is different especially with basketball. All of our players either leave to play over seas or join the NBA. The football rate should go up becuause PJ seems to value academics…but as for chan he didnt do that good of a job graduating players.

But give Obama a year and he might just surpass Carter’s inability to lead. So yeah, Tech gave us our first sure-fire, 100% Socialist President. Congrats!! Even the quack Al Gore got a NPP for jumping on the Global Warming scam bandwagon. Rhode Scholars is where it’s at and Tech isn’t even in the same ballpark as UGA.

As for this kid, I would recommend not committing to Tech since you will not be able to visit other schools without getting your scholarship pulled. In that sense, you will be committed one year before signing day without the option of visiting other schools.

I hear all this talk about CMR’s loyal staff turning down higher paying jobs to stay in Athens. When the douches face the harsh realities next year I want to be first in line to laugh at their misery and spit in their faces. LOL!! UGA had their WORST defense in some categories in program history last season. So yes, Tech beat (thanks to an unforced pick six) UGA’s worst defense by 3 points. So according to douchebags like you, UGA’s defense will get worse each passing year? LOL, what a dumbarse!!!
Tech lost their 3 best defender combination they’ve ever had and had 42 put up on them by UGA, not mention getting slaughtered by UNC and a 5 loss SEC team. I like the chances of any team that faces Tech next year since they never reload and the gimmick offense will wilt the more it’s exposed.

Enjoy slapping kneejerk silly- how clever and brave you are sitting behind a computer. UGA’s defense MAY get slightly better this year, but their offense will assuredly take a dive. GT loses 3 D-Linemen, which will be hard to replace, but they are hardly the best 3 defender combination in Tech history. while the productivity on our D-line will go down, UGA loses most of their offensive output. It would have been better for UGA to lose top defensive players than their QB and RB. maddog- stop making excuses. Genius is often spelled incorrectly. Calling names is what you do when you can’t think of anything better to say, at least that’s what I tell my 3rd graders. Surely you two are above that, aren’t you????

“After learning that all charges against Jerrard Tarrant have been dropped, he has been fully reinstated to the Georgia Tech football program,” coach Paul Johnson said in a statement. “It is unfortunate that Jerrard lost a year of eligibility in the process, but the charges against him were something that we took very seriously.”
Jerrard Tarrant, who was suspended from the Georgia Tech football team last June when rape charges were filed against him, has been reinstated to the team after the charges were recently dropped.

Keep harping on the 7 of eight. The record is 8 straight by GT.
It’s now 1-0 GT. 45-42!!!!

Richt wouldn’t allow such a disgusting, cowardly piece on campus. But looks like Tech is more than happy to accept a rapist.
8 straight? Tell us where you watched any of those “8 straight” at fella? Were you at any of the games? On tv maybe?
Unlike you, UGA fans don’t need history books to tell us how we used to own you before our grandparents were even born. We’re enjoying kicking your teeth in during our actual lifetime and we love it :)
How’s that 23 game lead sitting with ya little guy?

I like all the dawgs here that are crying in their sleep because the justice system worked as it should.
“Wahh! Hes a rapist because I say he is! Facts be darned!”
And I thought they bragged about their law school at UGA……..

NatiJacket,
It did work as it should. Don’t let these haters on here get away with their lies. Just like how it worked for me in ‘94. Just wish it would have worked this last time :(

Big Homo, I was up your Mom’s booty when I watched it. You were a small fleck of flagella. A least you named yourself truthfully. How’s that 5 Nc’s to 1 sitting with you, Honey?

45-42
So sad that many GA fans are STILL labeling the young man (Tarrant) as a rapist when the FACTS & the LAW have proven otherwise. Bitter they are, I guess.
Hopefully Tarrant is the one who records a pick-6 vs. the dogs in 2009. Man, Morgan Burnett is awesome.

Exactly, your grandparents weren’t even born when that streak occurred, LOL!!! How lame is that!! You have to use HISTORICAL trivia to sound like a badarse about your team. That’s just down right sad dude….SAD!!
LOL!!! So it’s 5 NC’s now? I thought it was 4? Or 3? The longer the blogs stretch on here the more championships Tech seems to get. Odd how that works. Heck, if UGA claimed every title from every paper that declared them their champ like Tech does then they’d have at least 12!!!

Big homo, you’re the one using historical data. It’s now 45-42, moron. I remember the 8-game streak well. Your Grammy was having a corndog at the time. Speaking of history, I was giving your Mom a fresh spackling during our last NC game.
Don’t try to match wits with The Big Bug, little boy.
And don’t brag about being a homo. You could be one of my ancestors

The hypocrisy from Tech fans is mind blowing. If UGA had a recruit that was accused and arrested on rape charges we’d never hear the end of it. God forbid if he was actually cleared and continued to be on the team!!
Innocent or not, this isn’t good PR for Johnson or the program. Anyone that knows anything about the court of law realizes there are countless technicalities and loopholes to beat a rape charge. If it’s a she said versus he said, and if the he happens to be a prized Tech recruit, then the she better have video evidence. Because if not, he’s walking.

This cry of rape & child abuse & spousal abuse assumes guilty until proven innocent! If you make a frivolent charge like this it should be taken very seriously. Not to imply this charge was frivolent. Charges in these cases should always go to trial and if the charges are proven frivolous the accuser should be held seriously accountable. It frightens me to think how many are imprisoned for consensual sex.

Funny the ones that commit to Tech are always innocent in your eyes though, correct?
I suspect the wealthy boosters had a little to say about this one since charges were dropped. She probably has a nice new Lexus.

You are correct rabbit,
This isn’t good PR for Tech and shows Johnson is a “win at any cost” type of coach.
Richt has turned guys away that were just accused of doing things far less serious than this. While Johnson welcomes them with open arms.
Richt is a class act and UGA is lucky to have them. Johnson, along with his God complex, will be gone in a few years.

I think UGA’s team will be improved next year. I will go on record to predict the score now. GT 49, UGA 45. Yep, thats an improvement, but wait a minute, we never know who wins the game until after the game is played. Remember—45—42.

That’s pretty “big” talk coming from a fan of a team who just got their first win in 8 years and still trails the series by 23 games.
