Georgia Tech gives options with early offer for Buford lineman

Georgia Tech’s early offer to Buford’s Kolton Houston came with an interesting twist.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Houston said Tech coach Paul Johnson told him he was being recruited to play either side of the ball for the Jackets. It was Houston’s choice to decide between offensive or defensive line.

Johnson said that when Tech’s coaches reviewed Houston’s film, the offensive and defensive coaches both said they wanted him. Johnson told Houston it was his decision. What was Houston’s response? He said that he will play whatever position helps the team the most.

Houston has not committed to Tech, or any other college. He also lists offers from Clemson, Maryland, Stanford, Vanderbilt and South Carolina. Houston is also under consideration by UGA.

““[UGA assistant] Stacy Searles really likes him, and he is definitely on their radar,” Buford coach Jess Simpson said earlier.

His father, Shane Houston, played two years for the Bulldogs in the late 80’s.

Simpson said Houston has the frame and athleticism to play on either side of the ball.

Warning: Be absolutely sure you ready to commit to gt before doing so. Second thoughts and looking around is a big NO NO at gt.

The kid is all Dawg. He watched how our freshmen/sophomore OL dominated the senior stacked Yech DL all game long.

Why play in the worst BCS conference for a mediocre team where they make you do homo chop blocks when you can play in the best BCS conference in the land and learn how to play like a man by the best OL coach in the nation :)

Coach PJ may realize that with Big Boy recruits that my way or highway does not work. The classes at Navy ‘04 to ‘08 ranked 119 out of 119 in BCS schools. Obviouly those athletes were not being recruited at Top D-1 programs. So if you look elsewhere offer is gone could work, since options for other D-1 is slim probably 1-AA or less. Now that he broke into top 50 for first time a less heavy hand may be needed. So a year ahead of signing time he tells the kid what he wants to hear? Coach Pajamas wake up and smell the pigskin, if you are straight up with athlete and parents then sell the program, the young men will stay with you even after checking out the options, ie UGA let them look and they all came on signing day, with some still looking. Which coach was most admired in recent AJC poll?

Which coach was most admired in recent AJC poll??? Because LORD KNOWS those AJC polls are legitimate. What about the poll on who would win more games, the mutts, or GT and Falcons combined? Yeah, AJC polls, GREAT reference.

LOL. Red GA Dawg you must be a hugh CPJ fan.

That means CPJ took his Navy team with LESS talent than EVERY other Div 1-A (FBS) team to bowl games EVERY year from ‘04 thru ‘07. WOW!

What will he do with even a top 50 recruiting class???

And apparently he beat his main rivals, Army and Air Force, EVERY time he played them, WHILE being out recruited by them EVERY year.

I’m not sure I believe your data, but I like the implications if true. I wouldn’t have guessed a dog fan would be such a CPJ fan.

For uninformed dunces,

A recruit who commits to GT can de-commit. This involves committing firstly, then having second thoughts, and de-committing to visit other schools. CPJ tells a recruits they cannot take other visits once they are committed. If your committed, your committed. Who wants BS? This is done at other schools btw……….CPJ’s not some dictator. lol

Fun to get the “Bumble Bee” juices flowing, data from Jon Solomon’s B’ham news column which was referenced lst week in AJC. BTW Army is 118, Air Force is 117 says something about what four year commitment to military can do to slow down recruiting. In addition the best back Navy had in Johnson era at Navy played HS football with my son at very small elite PA prep (first class 1785). He was a stud and the only offer he received was from Navy, did a year at Navy prep (like a redshirt which can not happen at service academy) before playing at Navy. He became a Navy officer and then played for Eagles last year. Of course when most of your games are against the other tail enders and during a time when Notre Dame has been in a real tailspin not hard to have winning season. What were those bowls anything close to BCS? or mid December filler. Probably right up there with Emerald, Humanitarian - all those big trips that the Bees love so much. I do want PJ and Coach Curry to do well as it is good for the men in our state. In fact I may buy GSU tixs to support program. Wow there may be more at Panther games than Tech. That is a sad thought.

Johnson is the biggest hypocrite in college football today. Not only did he not stick around and honor his contracts with GSU and Navy like he said he would when he signed the dotted lines, but he also had no problems with stealing Hill away from UCF after he had COMMITTED to them. Funny he wouldn’t allow Aycock to do with Auburn what Hill obviously did with Tech.

No numbnuts, I was talking about how Hill was committed to UCF while Johnson recruited him. Same exact situation as with Aycock and Auburn
