Oklahoma invades state to lure South Paulding DB Ryan Ayers
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Oklahoma has landed some huge recruiting targets over the years in Georgia, and the Sooners are after another one with South Paulding speedster Ryan Ayers.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Ayers plays defensive back and is considered one of the state’s top prospects for 2010. He has scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Duke, North Carolina and Oklahoma State.
“He went to Florida for their Friday Night Lights this summer, and he had the second-fastest time in the 40 [yard dash] out of 300 kids there,” South Paulding coach Tim Glanton said. “He’s run a 4.34.”
Oklahoma edged UGA for wide receiver Cameron Kenney of Dacula this year. Former Sooners from Georgia include All-America offensive tackle Duke Robinson, who played at Atlanta’s Booker T. Washington High.

I can’t believe this kid is getting recruited this heavily, you don’t even notice him on the field for South Paulding, his team was terrible and he didn’t seem to do much.

He is fast though, give him some time with college coaches, hopefully they can mold him into a good college player.

You can’t coach speed. Having said that, the coaches are hoping to coach the kid up and make him into an impact player. He has potential, just look at who is interested in him. I don’t know if UGA is interested, or even in the hunt, but best of luck to Ryan.

If your base this kid on just speed, Okla will lose out. Whatever happenped to football players? I’ve known many track guys that can’t play the game of football, lets see what this kid can do next year on the field, if he is a “true ball player”, then go for it, but if not, well Okla, and every other school might want to re-evaluate the way they look at talent. Things like tackling, technique, commitment, love of the game, and discipline, still make the good ones great. Schools stop giving these kids offers so early, make them earn it, like we did twenty years ago. When a kid has something he’s striving for he/she works harder, when it is given they tend to become slackers. I hope this young man won’t fall into that slacker mentality, because the ugly side of recruiting, is that they can resend this offer. Don’t believe me, ask Jonathan Davis [ Tucker Hs], and Univ of SC. I’ll bet there is no love lost between the two

I coached Ryan in middle school and he is a great athelete and kid. He has played everywhere on the field and I know Coach Glanton has done a good job with him.
Good luck Ryan….I am proud of you! Take your time and make the decision that best suits you, not where everyone else wants you to go.
