WR Marlon Brown played prank on UGA players with Ohio State

Before Marlon Brown told a national TV audience that he was signing with Georgia, he had UGA players tricked into thinking that he was headed to Ohio State.

Two Georgia quarterback recruits, Oconee County’s Zach Mettenberger and Aaron Murray of Tampa, said they both got text messages from Brown indicating that was he was “going to Ohio State” over Georgia, Tennessee and Mississippi.

“We found out that the only people who really knew he was going to Georgia before he said it on TV was [Georgia coach Mark Richt] and A.J. Green,” Mettenberger said.

Richt said that Brown confirmed his Georgia plans on Tuesday night, but made him promise not to tell anyone until after he announced on ESPNU. “I heard that Marlon tricked some of our players, that was pretty funny … he was just having fun,” Richt said.

Mettenberger said he didn’t mind being the victim of a prank. “It was just an awesome experience when Marlon said ‘Georgia.’ I was in the [Georgia training room] and everybody screamed when he said ‘Georgia.’ Man, that was exciting.”

14th choice of WR? The kid is 6’5?! He was my number 1 choice. Stephen Hill seems like a nice kid but, honestly, he wasn’t even on the radar until two weeks ago.

More importantly, what team in the SEC is going to have two fast & tall corners/safeties that can keep up with a 6’4 WR and a 6’5 WR on both sides of the field. If I were Joe Cox, I would be very happy — these two guys are going to make life after Stafford much easier.

Again, why are GT fans reading UGA recruiting blogs. GA Tech insider sounds like a classy person that avoids all the negative garbage. I can’t understand why everyone wants to compare the classes of GA and GT. As a UGA fan, I am very excited about the new class. Arthur Lynch is a top 5 TE and the number 1 player in Mass. We signed the number 1 player in Indiana. We signed the top two players in Tenn. We signed the top player in GA. We signed a top 5 player from Florida, that just happens to be a top 5 QB nationally. If some of the early commits had waited until the day, we would all be jumping for joy. Marlon Brown sounds like a great kid. We know he is a great player, number 1 player in Tenn. I don’t focus on players that signed with other schools. They were never DAWGS. We have a great class.

In terms of the ridiculous and childish comments attacking UGA, I ask why. Are you so jealous about your team’s lack of quality so you project your frustrations on UGA? The fact is that Marlon Brown was the first WR that we offered. The Wooten kid was the 2nd offer and we signed both. The other kids that selected other schools were fallback plans. We didn’t offer the WR that signed with GT until last week. I wish this kid well, but he wasn’t our first option. Marlon Brown is rated the number 1 player in Tennessee, a top 50 player national, and a top 3 receiver nationally. The Wooten kid selected UGA over LSU and Florida. He is exactly what UGA has been looking for. Great quickness and speed. Great returner. It goes without saying that we wouldn’t swap classes with the other school in question. UGA’s overrated team last year was not something that UGA did. That was the national press. It is kind of like GT’s baseball team. They are always ranked high, yet they always fall short. Go Dawgs.

In regards to the assassin and racially insensitive comments made by Bucknuts, you should be ashamed for making allegations for which you have no basis. It is very irresponsible to make insinuations about recruiting violations when you are clueless. I mean Ohio State was the school that signed Maurice Clarrett. Marlon attends a private academy. The truth is that you have no idea about this kid’s personal life. If all the other schools are excited about their future players, why are they reading UGA blogs making infantile comments? The DAWGS are rocking and rolling.

News flash CRY BABIES: The first commitment that Marlon Brown was made to UGA today. He never committed to UT or OSU. That was just recruiting propaganda and you babies bought into it. Don’t hate UGA because of your personal inadequacies. Why are you reading and posting on UGA blogs. You should be reading GT blogs. Get over it. Marlon Brown appears to be a class act on the field and off. Time will tell if he lives up to his 5 Star rating. You have to like his chances playing opposite the best freshman receiver in the country last season and with UGAs quarterback recruits.

As for our recruiting class, we did pretty good for us. We met our needs and then some. I know that UGA did not offer Stephen Hill until after you were scorned with that Dacula kid. Glad he stayed with us, but the way we run the ball now, his future as a blocker looks much better than a receiver.

Our program is not to the point of the UGA,UF,AL, NC, WF, and many others. However, we are bringing in our athletes that we need for our system.

Congrats to UGA for a strong class, and a really big shout out to CPJ and the team for bringing in what is a very good recruiting class for us.

It won’t take seven more years to whip UGA again!

Good for you. You then went on to get spanked by LSU who UGA spanked in your “bowl” game. GET OVER YOURSELVES! And about the gay rings your players got. If we got a ring for everytime we beat you, we would have already run out of fingers and toes. Stay classy geeks. Stay classy.

Hey Dawgtime it’s funny how you pick out Clarett at Ohio State and not point out how Georgia had a player named Odell Thurman who is Clarett’s equal morally. As a player why would you not want a chance to be part of a championship? True OSU has not showed up the previous two title games but at least they had the opportunity. OSU will always have a shot at the title due to their weak confrence. Doesn’t make them better than Georgia but how are the “Dawgs” ever going to make it through Florida, Alabama, and LSU.

31-0 at the half?!!

UGA really needed this kid at WR. SEVERE drop off after Green with MoMass gone.

Hopefully - your OL will be better so that Cox can have time to throw. Cox will be a competitor - but will depend more on leadership traits than over talent.

Cox = Greg Talley. I’ve said this several times - and many UGA fans hated it. But this is not a slight to Talley or Cox.

As for 2009 - SEC East - Gators the premier program by a wide margin - off the map ahead of UGA and the rest.

The real battle will be for 2nd and 3rd. I’m calling it 60/40 TN/UGA. And with UGA losing the week before in Athens against LSU - then having to play the Vols on the road - where they are coming off a victory against Auburn - I’d Say that TN sould be the favorite.

TN has more upside with their new staff - and 2010 -will be in a better position to chase Florida - and UGA will settle back into it’s traditional 3rd place standing in the SEC East - and 5th best team in the SEC.

ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally realized what my problem is with blogging. I made the mistake of giving people credit for which they don’t deserve. Many of these clowns just want to post some foolish assassin comments to gain attention. I made the assumption that you could have productive and realistic debates but that is not possible. Many of the bloggers are just immature punks looking to say anything in hopes of provoking a response. It is akin to flatulence; it makes a sound and stinks up the place but has very little to no value. If you gain a sense of power by talking trash about kids that you don’t know then I recommend that you get a life. In terms of me controlling UGA fans posting on GT sites, all I can say is that I don’t and not everyone that claims to be a DAWG is a true Bulldog. Many imposters hide behind the anonymous façade so that they can incite arguments. To the Gator talking trash, hmmm it wasn’t that long ago that we did the Bulldog Boogie in the end zone. Be careful, the hypocrisy of your school will catch up to you. You have many jumping on the Gator bandwagon, but those are the first to complain and jump off when things go bad. It is kind of like Tim Teebow professing to be a big Christian yet he brags, taunts, and glorifies the weaknesses of others. Christian behavior? In regards to the UGA/UF series, how many wins does each school have? Since we are discussing scores, don’t I remember a UGA win in which we scored 50+ points and GT was in single digits. Calling kids at UGA thugs is irresponsible and childish. In terms of the Maurice Clarrett comment, I encourage you to read which blogger made the first ridiculous comment. Notice Bucknuts made a ridiculous comment and I responded. The fact is that UGA had one of the greatest signing days in recent memory. The future is very bright. I’m amazed at how GT fans keep up with every UGA player hoping to see them fail. In truth, I can’t tell you 5 players on the GT roster. Focus on your team. Go DAWGS

Oh, but you say, times have changed!! We’ve got SABAN now!!! Well fine, shut your pie hole about “tradition”. He’s been there 2 years.

Tech’s so pathetic even when they finally stumble into a win over UGA, we still torment them. Winning in a goofy shootout in 08 was the blind pig finding the acorn.

Humiliated (in their back yard) before the nation 35-3 by a so-so LSU team (that UGA handled on the road) showed them the sad reality that is GT football. Almost as embarrasing as having Big Boi perform at halftime, a who cares ? ACC title game, or their puny season ticket base that they never want to disclose. Their fans are so homely and lacking in social skills that they’ll never have an atmosphere that will attract fans no matter how many hot dogs they give away. Throwing all the money at Johnson before the bowl game show’s how deranged UGA has driven them. The’re so blinded by the UGA obsession that they’ll never stop tripping over their own feet. But they do make for an amusing sideshow to the SEC games that people actually care about. Go Dawgs !

I guess I have become numb to the idiocracy of buckeye fans not to mention the hosts of the bucknuts radio show here in Columbus. I am from Baton Rouge so you know where my alliance is but I am surrounded by ignorant football fans who think their team is on par with any team out of the SEC. I dont care about individual stats, just wins, and of course in the Big Ten it is a lot easier to come by. If I had any talent at all and was being recruited by a big time school that I had on my list you bet I am going to where I have a chance to win a title. Anyway, good luck next year Dawgs. Bama Stan, u r a typical Bama fan. U have a very short memory. UGA had whipped the great BAMA three straight before last year, including the last 2 times in Bama’s home stadium. UGA also has 2 SEC titles since 2002, how many has BAMA got this decade? You are so full of dream cookies like most Alabams fans. You can only dream of another SEC title. Also, UGA has whipped the mighty LSU the last three times they have played them, one which was for the SEC title. BAMA had to go to overtime to beat LSU last year at home, while UGA put 50 on them in their home stadium. And, OOPS i forgot the mighty Auburn tigers that has owned the mighty BAMA for how many years?? UGA just whipped the other mighty tigers in the West for the 3rd straight year. As a matter of fact if UGA was in the Western division of the SEC, LSU would not have but one SEC title this decade, and they would only have one national championship this decade. UGA owns the western division of the SEC this decade. Just check the records. 3-0 last 3 games vs LSU, 3-0 last 3 games vs Auburn, 3-1 last 4 games vs Bama, 4-0 last 4 games vs Ole Miss, 4-0 last 4 games vs Miss.St, 4-0 last 4 games vs Arkansas. UGA’s only problem is that they have to play Fl, and Auburn every year. Other than FL, they have dominated every team in the SEC this decade. What has your mighty BAMA done?? Go on Miss, or Miss State’s blog and brag, that is the only teams you have beaten regularly in the SEC this decade. How pathetic is that. When you can only brag about beating the two schools from Miss, OOPS forgot Miss.State beat your pathetic team 2 out of the last 3 years. Get lost loser, cant wait to see how much you cry when Saban gets Bams put on probation again, this time it will be the death penalty. ONe last thing, UGA’s typical positon the last 6 of 7 years has been 1st or second in the SEC, what has BAMA’s been?? OOPS, UGA has also won 10 or more games 6 of the last 7 years, only USC and Texas have done that. Rolllll Tide!!!!
