Georgia puts “zero” stock into recruiting-service rankings
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
UGA’s Rodney Garner, one of the nation’s top recruiting coordinators, was asked about how much stock Georgia puts in recruiting-service rankings of prospects.
His response? “None. Zero. It’s not going to determine whether we recruit you, how many stars you have,” Garner told the AJC’s Tim Tucker. “ We’re looking for men of character first; we’re looking for some of the intangible things. And he has to be able to play.”
“You’ve got to make sure the kids meet your criteria for what fits your system and what you’re trying to accomplish in your program. Because not everybody fits. And you shouldn’t force it. Don’t get greedy.”
Garner was trying to convince Miller Grove wide receiver Stephen Hill into switching from Georgia Tech to Georgia for signing day.

Character first, come on Rodney, we see what happens when those character kids show up in Athens. You think we don’t read the headlines?

LMAO. Then why does Rodney Garner call our non-experts for inside information all the time?

LMAO, why is a rivalsemployEE trolling around the AJC. Rivals does the worst job ranking anything, you can literally watch a kids ranking go up and down hourly.

Please tell me you put even less stock in the idiot opinions of the AJC! You know, AJC short for Atlanta’s Urinal & Constipation. Let’s see if free speech is honored, and for how long. I’m betting this comment isn’t up long … fa.ggots!

Coach Garner doesn’t pay attention to rankings, or anything with recruiting. Barry Every who left Georgia for Rivals did all the work for Garner. Every is gone, and that’s why Georgia’s recruiting class is falling apart at the finish line.

its obvious that garner has no clue what he’s talking about. ranking does matter if your recruitts are being taught to play football the right way. ask usc, florida and lsu. its obvious that these teams coach their athletes the right way because they win championships.
clueless mark richt is the worse decision making coach i have ever seen during crucial times in games. he has no clue how to utilize his athletes by putting his team in the best position to win big games.
“how is it that a coach can’t see when his qb is making poor decisions on the football field”? if clueless richt had used moreno more in games, we would have beating alabama, gt and possibly fla.
i can’t wait to see moreno play in the nfl. he’s going to show clueless mark richt that it was a mistake not to give him the ball more especially in crucial games.
if the lions take stafford , their fans are going to be sick like i was having to watch this kid screw things up.
hire dan reeves NOW!

It’s not like the AJC scoops anything. If they get any information on a kid it is all second hand information from Rivals.com. Don’t believe it? Hang out on UGASports.com for just one day. After you see an update, come over here about 2 hours later to see the same update.

Based on what I’ve heard in the news, “character” has not been on anyone’s radar. Maybe Rodney Garner’s position on this will become “reality” in 2009.

I don’t believe Rodney when he says the recruiting boards play no factor at all, I do think they play a small role. If he says that character is a major part of the recruiting process for Georgia I would agree with him. The incidents that have happened at Georgia a mostly all alcohole related. Teenagers drink in college, thats nothing new, but look at how many players are on the team that you have to patrol. The program is responsible for at least 75 players so if you have 3 to 4 incidents involving players, thats not that bad. Stop calling these kids thugs and all other types of bad names, they are college teenagers. They are doing things that college teenagers do in most cases. They eventually learn and grow from their mistakes and go on to be better men. Some of you bloggers need to get off your high horses and stop acting like you didnt make any mistakes in your lives.

Just as Stats are for Geeks who really believes rankings? Look how many 5 star busts UGA has had and 2 Star Superstars. Read between the lines - that is more than likely what Garner was talking about.

Does anyone realize that Moreno was a 4 star recruit and you never seen his mug on the front cover of AJC before he signed? Garner is right!

Hey Rodney, when you’re recruiting “kids of character” does it enter into your mind at all that if he’s given his word as in “committment” to another school and YOU are trying to talk him out of it and he does…..does that enter into his “character”? In essence he’s lied to another school about his sincerity……but then you think that he’s never gonna lie to YOU….what a crock.
