Meet Aaron Murray — Georgia quarterback signee, Class of ‘09

Aaron Murray, of Plant High (Fla.), enrolled early at Georgia to play quarterback. Here’s a little bit more about this new Bulldog in the recruiting Class of 2009. Welcome him to Bulldog Nation with congratulations below in our “Comments” area.

amurray.jpg

Why he likes UGA:“A lot of the coaches put a lot of pressure on you during the recruiting process, but the Georgia coaches were more concerned with getting to know me and my family. After that, I knew I would enjoy working with them. I knew the football program would be good at any of the other schools. It was the relationship that I had with the coaches at Georgia that did it. I hope to work hard and earn a national championship. Actually, I don’t like losing at all, so maybe we can earn a couple of national championships.”

Boy, where have you guys been. Murray and Mettenberger signed the first of January not today and have been in school since the start of this semester. Both are already practicing with the team. This paper has been doing stories about it. What is wrong with this newspaper.

Boy, where have you been derryb? They may have been in school, but they cannot sign until today. You immature college boys need to grow up before you blog and give the real true fans a bad name. I went to Ga. Southern, but have been a dog fan since they beat the Heismann trophy winner Spurrier in 66. Go Dogs and congratulations to all the new recruits. We true fans will support you all the way.

You Dogs are getting a class act with Aaron. He’s a real winner. Now Tech will just have to find a way to beat him, but I will continue to admire the young man.

Some of you guys are idiots! They just signed their letters today! Today is the official signing day. Leave the d** paper alone. If they were that bad you wouldnt be blogging on it every single day. So called Fans are so dum sometime.

…clarify this for me. If kids like Murray and Metzenberger enroll early, don’t their scholarships count against “last year” rather than the current allotment? If so, they could still “be signing” today for their money for next year. I doubt that they are paying their way through UGA, especially Murray since he is out of state. Is this that “gray shirt” aspect that allows teams to sign more than their alloted amount since they have scholarship money to use based on players leaving / getting kicked out of the program? Can somebody please confirm and explain this process? Thanks.

Congrats! Hopefully it will lead to great things and not the disappointment of our last hyped up QB that was supposed to be the greatest ever and lead us to NC.

Congrats Aaron!! Please understand our hesitation in buying into all the hype….you see, the last QB that came with all the hype could not even win the SEC East- because, you know- the SEC is so tough and we will always have close games and really was concerned more with how he looked for the NFL than being at UGA. Hopefully- you will be different….like your attitude and hope you can be the leader as well

Why in the world do so many people feel they need to be sarcastic and criticize rather than just make an intelligent comment. It is Great to hear what the guys are saying when they sign. It is one of the biggest days of their lives - can’t we let them make a big deal about it!! Congrats on the Signing!

Not a big fan of Zach but I know Aaron will lead us to some good wins. Zach needs to trim down a little and will not be able to take the hits of the SEC. All my confidence is in Aaron.

Technically we did win the east last yr. in ‘07. We tied Tenn., but we just lost the tiebreaker bc they beat us head to head. That’s the only reason we didn’t play in the SEC Title game. By the end of the yr…we were playing better than anyone in the nation. Don’t blame Stafford for us not winning a NC. If we had a playoff maybe we would have won one that yr.

AARH- I dont blame Stafford for not winning NC. I blame Stafford for not being a leader- always making excuses for close games and being more worried about how he looked to NFL scouts than playing for UGA. Take a look at Tebows Press conference after the loss to Ole Miss and Staffords after the loss to Bama and Fla. That’s the difference between having a guy with fire and desire and taking his team to the NC and one that “technically” wins the SEC east but does not make it to the Championship game. We need to lose the mentality that almost, should have, could have, etc etc.

Murray appears to be a better athlete that Stafford, but how does his arm strength compare?

Hopefully Murray isn’t using UGA as a stepping stone like that guy from Texas did the past few years. Personally I trust someone like Z. Mett. more than an out of towner. I would rather have someone that has grown up a Bulldog and lived and died with the program than a transplant from Oh lets say Texas or NJ. Some of the best and truest Bulldogs are those who have grown up in Sanford Stadium.

Welcome aboard AM.

To kerryb and others who seem to be a little confused. The recruitment process is a year round event. Players are courted by schools for quite a long time and are able to make a “decision” as to where they will attend or accept a scholarship from at any time. Nothing becomes official until “signing day”. This day is the day where scholarship offers are “signed” and delivered to the university of their choosing that gave them an offer. After a letter of intent has been signed, that player can not back out of the agreement without going through the NCAA and the university. Prior to the signing of the letter of intent, a decision by the player can be made without penalty or repercussion from the school, except having the scholarship offer rescended. So even though Murray, Mettenberger and others were early enrolees at UGA, until the letter of intent was signed, they could still have chosen to leave school and accept an offer from somewhere else if it were still on the table.

So, the AJC isn’t behind on any reporting and is not giving out any bad information. Next time, take the time to read what is being written before you are so quick to criticize.

Congratulations Aaron, we are so happy that you chose UGA. We live just north of Tampa Bay but still attend all the homes games at UGA and the UF game at Jax and the Vandy game in Nashville. We are familiar with your football record and feel UGA has scored a winner!!

Look for this guy to be a statistical monster at UGA. His mobility and accuracy make him more special than any other QB headed to college this year. He is a master of finding the secondary routes and seeing the entire field. Im not sure I have seen anyone quite like him. Kinda reminds me of Major Harris. Just when you think you have him contained he burns you.

Couldn’t agree more with Jeff and G’Vegas Dawg. Couldn’t agree more!!!!!

Doubt Stafford would have returned from a broken leg way ahead of schedule to play in the Texas State Championship. Murray was playing again in 2 months. Murray is a gamer…and his tough as nails attitude will flow to the other players. If Murray keeps up the good work and adjusts to the college tempo, he’ll be the one everyone remembers. Stafford will be an after thought.

Where’s all this negativity against Stafford coming from. He did the job on the offensive side of the ball. We just gave up wayyyyyy to many yards and points on D and sometimes special teams. If you had millions of dollars staring you in the face you’d make a change in jobs, I’m sure. This guy Murray may have an edge in toughness which could make the difference but don’t diss Staff for doing what dozens of athletes have done in the past few years.

cox should show him the ropes so by the time murray gets into the game. he’ll have a good feel for the offense. murray is a gamer i think he and this class could win the NCG at some point for UGA!

SIC’EM DAWGS!

I went to UGA in the 60’s so have been a DAWG fan for a while. Live in Florida now so , sorry, root for the Gators too except in Jax. When you play in the SEC now its like walking thru a mine field with snow shoes on. Hard to know what to expect from game to game. Richt has probably the best record in the SEC the past 8 years. He knows how to be a winner and his time is coming. Talent is so good in the SEC its hard to be a consistent winner as he is. Look at Fla/Ala. in 2007 16-10 then in 2008 ended up #1 and #6. Look out for the Gators in 2009, they are loaded and look out for our DAWGs in a few years.
