Report: Tenn. commit Oku to sign with Auburn
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Tennessee has lost a handful of recruits to start National Signing Day. The Vols may be losing one more.
Tailback David Oku - the top-ranked all-purpose back in the country according to Rivals.com - seems destined for Auburn, sources have told govolsxtra.com. Oku has wavered on his commitment status for the past few weeks and appears to be leaning towards signing with the Tigers.
The loss of Oku would leave Tennessee with just one running back commitment, Milton’s Toney Williams.

Auburn is quietly putting together an excellent class today. With all the crap they’ve been through the past 4 months, they’re doing surprisingly well. They can also thank Saint Johnson for showing his true colors and lack of character for one of them, LOL!!!!

If Oku is too dumb to see that he will be better coached at UT for future NFL play then I suppose he is too dumb to go there and learn the system. Besides Au-barn??? A school who hires a coach even AU fans do not like, lol, lol!

Maybe both schools will end up with what they deserve. AU will get a kid who is no better than his word, and, TN, well, they don’t get the outstanding back they thought they had.

Ummm… how many NFL running backs have come out of Auburn again? Let’s see…Cadillac Williams, Rudi Johnson, Brandon Jacobs, Ronnie Brown, Steven Davis (Pro Bowl), Fred Beasley (Pro Bowl), Tony Richardson (Pro Bowl), Kenny Irons, and those are just in the last 10 years. There are way more than that if you go back further like that Bo Jackson guy (who was OK at football), Tommie Agee (hole opener for Emmitt all those superbowl years), but youre right why would a good RB go to Auburn?

Gene Chizik is proving to be an excellent recruiter. He and his staff are tireless, and many of the surprise signings today come from recruits following coaches to Auburn. Oku would be another.

@Dumb Recruit Ironic that such an asinine comment would come from somebody with “Dumb” as their name…
Also, I think Rudi Johnson, Brandon Jacobs, Ronnie Brown, and Carnell Williams, just to name a few, might disagree with your idiotic comment…

Boo hoo, I just lost my top receiver prospect to the Vowels, boo hoo. Boo hoo, I say if they don’t want to play for me, the best weasel faced coach in the nation, then that is their bad decision, boo hoo.
Nu’Keese Richardson
Wide Receiver, 5-9, 150 pounds
Pahokee, Fla.
Honors: One of the top 100 prospects in the nation according to Rivals. Also one of the top ten receivers in the nation, top five athletes in the nation and second best runner after the catch in the country.

Better coached at UT for NFL future???
Have you ever heard of RunningBackU?
Calling a kid dumb twice in your post doesn’t have any influence on what we think of him, it only shows us the character of at least one UT fan.
Better coached at UT? ha. tell that to Onterio McCalebb, Dontae Aycock, Philip Lutzenkirchen and see if it make a difference in how UT’s day turned out.

how many running backs in the past year has auburn put in the NFL compared to UT? From Rudi Johnson to stephen davis to carnell williams to ronnie brown? I count 5 RB on current NFL rosters according to ESPN to Tenn’s 1. You make the choice if you are a top tier RB like OKu

First he said he was not interested in playing in a spread offense. Then he said he was solid to the Vols and not going to look around. Then, he started taking visits to Syracuse and Aub. Then, he allegedly is going to sign with a team whose OC is a spread guru. Not the most honest kid. Enjoy the spread but keep your head on a swivel when you play the Vols. Eric Berry doesn’t like you lying to him.

You Aubies are glossing over the fact that the RB coach for many of those NFLers was Eddie Gran who is now at…wait for it….Tennessee. So, if he’s going to get the type of coaching those old Tiggers got, he’s supposed to go to UT. Now, Malzahn might be able to teach him to be a good 3rd down back that can catch, but that’s about it.

If you think this spread is a pass happy one you really have no clue what you are talking about.
Tulsa was 8th in the country in rushing yards.
This OC also led Ark with Jones and McFadden, they seemed to do pretty well for themselves both at Arky and the NFL.

Auburn was Runningback U waaay before Eddie Gran ever came along….they will remain waaay after he’s gone….

That OC had to be forced to use Jones and McFadden at Arky against his will. Notice how quickly he got the boot there, besides his shennigans and undermining the HC. He wanted to use them as receivers for Mustain more than running backs. Gran continued a fine tradition at Aub, for sure, but he was the reason the tradition remained…until he left.

Malzahn’s offense is a RUN FIRST offense. This is an offense that uses the run to set up the pass. This seems to be the perfect offense for multiple backs to shine in. It is a version of the spread, but different than TT or even Tony Franklin’s spread.

Ryno: Gran is one of my favorite college coaches, professionally & personally top-notch. But the comment above is correct. Auburn is RBU. We will always be RBU. The spread is a formation, not an offense -read up on it.

JUST IN: Auburn is out of schollies since they signed 26 players plus a few JUCO’s. Plus I don’t think Oku wants to compete for playing time against 3 new TB’s.

The reason why Oku contemplated with Aubie because he thought we were gonna get Lacy and Hardy. We didn’t get them so since you are out of schollies and signed 4 backs, forget about Oku. Btw, where’ s Aubry Phillips? Thought you stole him.

Doubleoff31, Kenny Irons was the last RB from RUNNING BACK U to go to the leauge and that was just the season before this last season. The only reason why there hasnt been one leaving to go for this year is because ALL OF THE RBS @ RBU are coming back! Scary huh? As bad as Auburn was this past year, They still beat Tinsee! And will again this year!

Does Cadillac count for being in the NFL? I think Jamal Lewis has been a better NFL back than any recent Auburn flavor of the week. He definitely has the bling to prove it.

Morons…all of you. AU will always be RB U. We were before Eddie Gran and we will be long after. He’s a great coach, but the tradition does not leave with him. Crowded backfields don’t mean much at AU…Caddy & Ronnie w/ Brandon Jacobs 4TH STRING…they all seemed to do ok for themselves.
If Oku comes, he’s the leader of the group immediately.
Caddy, Ronnie Brown, Brandon Jacobs, Heath Evans, Tony Richardson, Kenny Irons, Rudi Johnson, James Brooks, Lionel James, Tucker Frederickson, Tommie Agee, Joe Cribbs, William Andrews, Brent Fullwood…BO JACKSON.

I am glad to see Eddie Gran go. He was dead weight to the program. AU was Running Back U way before he got there. Gran did NOTHING to improve Ronnie Brown, Cadillac Williams or Kenny Irons. Those guys ran on heart and pure talent. You can see where Grans coaching drops of with guys like Lester, and especially Ben Tate and the other backs that have not reached their potential. He couldn’t even use Tristan Davis to his true potential. Tate and Lester, were horrible at having vision, being coached where there holes were supposed to be, how to think ahead as to how the play will unfold. They don’t run through the play, and they didn’t seek the extra yards, especially at the sideline. Lester had some flashes of brilliance, but that was talent alone. Gran couldn’t even figure out when to keep the best backs in the game. Taking Fannin out in the last few minutes of the UGA game when he was having one of the best games of the year by an AU back. He didn’t “trust his pass blocking”. WHAT?? it was the 11th game of the season and Gran hadn’t taught him how to pass block???? What an idiot.
The truth —- Auburn’s recent success at RB is all because of talent, and you can thank Tuberville, the fans, wonderful facilities and tradition at Auburn for that one.
Once again Gran was dead weight at Auburn, was fired by Auburn, and should have been last year. He was a horrible special teams coach. AU has had more BLUNDERS that you can count with him coaching special teams, i.e. fair caching balls in the end zone, and dropping them for the other team to score a touchdown, shanks, kicking out of bounds (costing them games), inconsistant field goal play, punter decisions, the list keeps going.
Don’t forget he was a part of one of the worst offenses in Auburn history, even if he is not the coordinator, a good coach picks up the slack and makes every one around him better. If the leadership is not there, a good coach provides it.
Auburn has made the right changes and has wonderful ccoaches in place. UT has taken the leftovers. Auburn has the tradition, UT doesn’t.
Auburn is the NFL pipeline for running backs.
Oku will make his decision when it is right for him. He is smart for taking his time to weigh his options to make the right one for him. Wherever he goes, this AU fans hopes the best for him. Recruiting is tough and college choices are tough. He is showing character and AU fans know all about character.
Good luck to you Oku. God Bless
JL

CollegefanJL, listen there buddy, you seem to be up on AU recent history pretty good as, you should be, since you are a fan. However if you are going to call yourself “collegefan” you need to prove your argument by disproving ours. I was at the Tennessee Auburn game this year. My wife and I actually got hooked up with student tickets. That game was terrible on all accounts, so dont brag. Also to say that Tennessee has no tradition you must be young and not study the past. Way back when Tennessee had Coach Neyland at the helm we had 15 consecutive opponents who went scoreless!! That was almost two years of no one scoring. I will concede to your point about Auburn being RBU, but as you can see UT has a storied history especially on the defensive side of the ball. So I will concede for you and call us linebacker U!! Tell your boys to bring an extra mouth piece and buckle their chinstraps tight!! GO VOLS!!!

A few running backs that UT has produced over the recent years…..Will Batholomew, Shawn Bryson, Reggie Cobb, Lenon Creer, Phillip Crosby, Troy Fleming, Arian Foster, Charlie Garner, Jay Graham, Montario Hardesty, Aaron Hayden, Travis Henry, Jamal Lewis, Gerald Riggs, Travis Stevens, James (little Man) Stewart, and chuck web.
To say that UT cannot hang with Aubut(rn) is crazy. Ut has a great trdition of taking noname backs and making them NFL material. It makes no difference who we pick up in the recruiting this year because UT can make do well at running back with whatever talent they have.

RBU is a joke, just keep living in the glory days of 2004, the “people’s” (at least the people that live in auburn, al) national champions. And don’t count your 1957 title, either, unless your going to call yourselves “Alabama Polytech…” Besides, you can have Oku, he’s a complete nut-job.

You Aw-Barn morons are a legend in your own minds! You’re the ones with the has-been, leftover coaches no one else would have. Trooper Taylor was never even considered for UT offensive coordinator, since he knows nothing about it, so he left for an “offensive coordinator” co-title at Oklahoma State, the Aw-Barn of Oklahoma, where another coach (the real coordinator) actually called the plays. Lane Kiffin never even considered him for an interview, so you guys got him. He was a terrible running backs and wide receiver coach at UT, but has a good personality and is a good recruiter. He’s been recruiting David Oku lately, apparently not successfully. How long before the real Aw-Barn president, Bobby Lowder, fires Chisik just like he did Dye, Bowden and Tuberville? You arrogant idiots are living in an illusion. Have you already forgotten that Bammer beat you 36 (Thirty-six) to 0(zero) just a couple months ago? You are #2 in your own state forever. Its a good thing Aw-Barn is never a force to be reckoned with because if it ever were, you blowhards would be more obnoxious than Bammer ever was!

As a follow-up to rcketop’s comment: There is also Onterrio Smith, LaMarcus Coker. Also, Beattie Feathers and Gene McEver were running laps around the competition before anyone ever gave two s** about Auburn football.
