Tech finishes early: No surprises among 21 signees

There were no Signing Day surprises for Georgia Tech. That’s good news.
Georgia Tech signed all 20 prospects it was expecting Wednesday, wrapping up the 2009 class by 10:30 a.m.
The class has 21 members total counting Emanuel Dieke, a defensive end from North Clayton who signed early and enrolled in January.
The only mystery entering the day concerned Stephen Hill, the wide receiver from Miller Grove High in DeKalb County. Hill was committed to Tech but got cold feet Tuesday and said he might pick Georgia.
But on Wednesday, Hill was among the first to have his signed scholarship papers into Tech’s offices.
Hill was among 14 Tech signees from Georgia, the most in over 15 years.
Jordan Luallen, a quarterback from Indiana, was the first to get his signed grant-in-aid faxed into to Tech. Many believe he is the centerpiece to the class.
ESPN rates guard Will Jackson and athlete David Sims as Tech’s best catches. Rivals puts defensive tackle J.C. Lanier at the top.
Scout.com’s favorites are Hill, Lanier, Luallen and cornerback Roderick Sweeting of Luella.
“I couldn’t begin to tell you who’s going to be the best player in this recruiting class,” said Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson. “If it was an exact science, you wouldn’t have all these people in the NFL from Abilene Christian.
”We operate under the principle, ‘Show me, don’t tell me.’ We believe what we see. We’ll see who ends up playing.’’

You know the more I hear from Coach Johnson, the more I like him (and that ain’t easy for a Dawg fan). I just think he understands the meaning of integrity and commitment and is out to recruit kids who buy into both.

CPJ left Statesboro years ago now, he is still loved and admired greatly in Statesboro.
A great Head Coach, a Great Leader of men, CPJ is a man’s man kind of person. Statesboro and Georgia Southern Alumni have nothing but the utmost respect for the man!.
