Stephenson: Mitchell-Thornton headlines class

Behind top recruit Nigel-Mitchell Thornton, four Stephenson Jaguars will sign this morning at a ceremony on the school campus. Mitchell-Thornton is enrolled at Tennessee after joining the Volunteers in January. The 6-2, 230-pound linebacker remained committed after the school changed coaches following the 2008 season.

Three other Stephenson defenders will sign letters of intent, including Tobias Williams (Jackson State), cornerback Tarek Knight (Clark Atlanta) and defensive end Joshua Williams (Tennessee-Chattanooga). Receiver Richard Drake will sign with Middle Tennessee State.

“They are four really good players who have done everything they are supposed to do off the field,” Gartrell said. “A couple more will sign later. They are ‘tweeners; it’s just a matter of someone making up their mind about them.”
