Yet another great class by the LSU staff, even though they lost Lake Charles’ Janzen Jackson over firing the d-coordinator.
QB is the big need, and they got two, one the premier dual threat QB in the nation, and one is an ordinary big drop back passer. QB Jarret Lee perfected the “pick 6” and the INT into a place on the bench. He was personally responsible for the Georgia loss, giving up TWO pick 6’s and an INT that led to a field goal, accounting for the margin of defeat, as LSU had to pass up a makeable field goal at the end. True freshman Jordan Jefferson was made to look terrific by the Georgia Tech D, which gave him time to do his way-too-long windup. An SEC pass rush will shoo Mr Jefferson to the bench to give us a look at the super quick Russell Sheppard, soon enough, unless Mr Jefferson is working on his delivery, as we speak. One must accept that J J’s spring practice will be heavily invested in changing that motion, so we cannot count on it in the fall.
Hope springs eternal. Every team in the SEC is undefeated right now, and we expect, one of the usual suspects will play for the national championship. I think its too much to expect Ole Miss to be in the running for the SEC West no matter how enthusiastic the coach is. One never knows. Beating Florida must have been a great energizer for the off season. Last year, one media rep (OUT OF SEVENTY) voted for Ole Miss to win the SEC. It will be a few votes in 2009. And Georgia, and LSU, and Bama, and Florida. Too soon for the Kiffins at Tennessee, we presume. They must recruit nationally, vs Mich and Notre Dame, poaching in other states, not having the home grown talent of Georgia, LSU, BAMA and Florida.
