It’s Georgia Tech for Miller Grove WR Stephen Hill
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
The Georgia Tech coaching staff breathed a sigh of relief this morning when Miller Grove wide receiver Stephen Hill signed a letter of intent to play with the Jackets. Tech received the letter before 8:30 a.m.
On Tuesday, Hill told the AJC that he had reopened the decision process between Tech and Georgia. The Bulldogs made a late push for Hill, who had originally had committed to Central Florida early in the recruiting process. Hill talked with his parents on Tuesday night and came to his decision.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Hill, who is ranked the No. 24 receiver by Rivals, had been committed to Tech for two months. He is considered one of the state’s top wide receivers. He won the state’s long jump competition last season.

Todd: Nice job in your earlier article to try and make it sound as negative for Tech as possible. I guess you were just doing your job of pandering to the thUGA fans. Fortunately, Stephen Hill showed class and held to his word. Now he can be part of opening up Tech’s passing game. Added to the running game, how many yards do you think Tech will get this year against little Willie’s D - 600? Along with say 65 points? You can put your UGA cheerleader’s uniform back on now Todd. Hope Stephen’s LOI really hurts - along with 45-42.

I haven’t seen or heard Dawg fans “hating” him when he was committed to Tech. He wasn’t offered by UGA so he went with a 2nd choice. Then UGA calls and the kid has the integrity to stick with his pledge despite the fact that he would rather go to UGA.
Personally I think it’s a mistake that may cost him later, but perhaps not. We won’t know how good he really is until a couple of years down the road and maybe he’ll even be good enough to get noticed in Tech’s offense.
Clearly he’s a good kid and I wish him the best.

If this guy has true NFL potential then his decision was beyond idiotic. Does he actually think that CPJ is going to change his offense for him?
Perhaps he’s not all that. In that case, I respect his decision.

GT will be passing a lot more in the coming years. That’s how CPJ landed a WR of this caliber. 2008 was spent installing the triple option. By the time Hill is a sophomore, the run and shoot will be heavily used. No Hill (again) No Reid Multiple meatheads signing LOI’s today who haven’t even qualified for ugag which is easier than most high schools. Pathetic!!

I am not a fan of either UGA or GT, more of a midwest guy. The sad thing is how UGA people constantly bad mouth and attack others, especially a high school kid on his choice of college. Its pathetic watching probably mainly grown men bash a high school kid and talk crap. Say congrats and move along, just because he didn’t choose you doesn’t mean its a bad choice for him

I have to agree with a couple bloggers from earlier…by making this decision he basically cut his chances of ever being a pro in half by going to Tech over UGA, he will be blocking on 90% of his plays, and he gets to play football in the ACC, his saturday nights will consist of study halls with 11 other engineer nerds, not 11 hot blondes with fake breasts(thanks hope money)that will be drunk and begging for some fun…Stephen as a SEC alum(Kentucky)you may have just made the worst decision of your young adult life

Mark;
If you check back at Sunday’s Superbowl, and check which Conferences put the most players in the game, you’ll see the ACC lead the list with 20 and the SEC was third on the list with only 11.
Also, if you look back most recently at the NFL Drafts, there have been more high draft picks from the ACC than the SEC.
Don’t go around saying that Stephen has no shot making the NFL just because he decided to attend GA Tech instead of UGA. Based on those statistics I just provided, above, it appears he actually has a better chance making the NFL from GA Tech than UGA.

What a sad commentary on our society. The jock sniffing groupies at UGAY can only judge any recruit by what his chances are in the NFL. All they can do is brag about how many UGAY attendees (not graduates) are in the NFL making the big bucks and being functionally illiterate, basically, you know. I agree with JAZZ (Feb 4 post). The great majority of college atheletes are in school for an education.

Ya’ll morons just don’t get it… UGAs unbelievably developed recruiting classes are going to beat Tech by 50 every year, just like ‘08!
oh wait…

I love this class, it’s looking like a really good fit for Coach Johnson. BUT I don’t understand why this wasn’t any different than the Aycock situation. There must be more to the Aycock Auburn story than we know. Too bad, I really liked what I was reading about Aycock.

Glad that we got him, but I think this is just another reflection of Johnson’s questionable recruiting tactics. Hill’s been sold on us for months. UGA gives him a call a couple of days ago, no visits, and he still had to weigh it out til the last minute? Not a good sign I believe.

When CPJ was OC for Erk at GSU, he had a little QB named Tracy Ham. Mr. Ham is the only college quarterback to rush for 3,000 yards and pass for 5,000 yards in a career. The passing game will work out for GT when the line figures out how to block. Then the Hines Ward-type, tougher receivers will start coming in once they see the potential for punishing CBs and Safeties and being wide open for big plays when teams cheat up for the run.

To Jaketnation and Techengineer21, I was not dissing the fact that he could work for Lockheed martin because that job pays good but the fact is these kids want to make it to the NFL one day that is there top priorty not to work a 9 to 5. So my point was he made a mistake because he wont make it to the league by signing with Tech as a wide receiver so he better get his degree and get ready for the regular working world. His football career is over before it started!! By tha way I know plenty of people who has a Degree from UGA and are doing very well in the working world thank you. Myself included and I’m blogging from my wonderful job right now!

How stupid are you? He’s going to a run first, run 90% of the time offense where he’s going to block the majority of the time. What on earth does your inaccurate drafting stats involving school that AREN’T Tech have to do with anything?
The kid isn’t a competitor. If he was then he wouldn’t be afraid of A.J. Green.

To “the man”
at least 10 wide reciever went to the NFL out of NB in the triple opition era there. Not exactly sure of the dates. Either way if Calvin Johnson can make with Reggie as a quaterback and Gailey as coach I am sure this can if he can catch the ball. GA Tech did not throw much b/c they could not block Johnson as said they will throw more. They just implemented the system, the “Peach Bowl”was a fluke the fumbled punt and onside kick did not help either

Johnson will throw the ball more, if the line can protect & if the QB can throw a little. Hill will be a big part of that b/c it gives Tech a 2nd WR to make plays besides BayBay. Last yr, U double cover BayBay and ingnore the rest of the guys that can’t do anything. Both BayBay & Hill should see a lot of single coverage giving them chances to make plays if we can protect long enough and the QB can get them the ball.

Yes, Tech won last year for the first time in 8 tries, so we all know how dominant Tech is right now. That being said, how in the world does a guy who should be a top receiver prospect sign with a school that won’t throw him the ball? He just signed up to provide downfield blocking for the running game. Good luck to him. At least we know he’s going to school for the education and not the chance to play professionally.

Kudos to the AJC for removing the UGA fan’s comment which implied that by going to GT, Stephen will be missing out on studying with sex-crazed drunken blondes with plastic surgery. Wow. Maybe that person would want to repeat this to Stephen’s mother (or the mothers of UGA females)? If men would stop treating women as sex objects, this world would be a much better place (and I’m a man!). I’m glad the AJC keeps some moral standards on these posts.
Best of luck, Stephen, over the next few years. I look forward to seeing all the great things you will do at GT.

To Martin in atlanta, since you want some attention I will give it to you. 1st let me start by saying I’m no redneck that stays in a trailor park. LOl I’m african american and I have a nice home and a nice job and a Graduate from UGA. Yes I was a student athlete that played football for UGA. 2nd I never lost to GT so I have bragging rights for the rest of my life over Tech. LOL 3rd I can care less about stats about who puts out more players in the NFL. My point was he is a WIDE RECIEVER that is going to Tech! They don’t throw the ball enough for him to even get a look from scouts in the league. You can argue till you blue in the face. 4 yrs from now he wont even get a invite to the combine!! Plus I live in Dekalb county went to Tucker High school and seen him play. He is a ok athlete. more of a basketball player in my opinion. He did nothing as a wideout against us when we played miller grove. He ran a kickoff back for a TD but 0 cathes in the game at Wideout! If we would have got him at UGA I still would have not been estactic because he would have been for depth anyway. He is no AJ Green!!

To Sunday, Only a Tech Fan will read what I typed and assume I said Lockheed was a bad job. If you read my other post I said that it’s a good job to have if you want a 9 to 5 but these players have a dream of one day playing in the NFL and his career ended before it started by being a WR that goes to Tech. Ya’ll are some idiots who never played football a day in ya’ll life and if you did wasn’t any good at it anyway. To all the people that Compare him to Calvin Johnson please stop. Stephen is no Calvin Johnson and Tech does not run the same offense it did with Chan Gailey as coach. Tech threw the ball alot back then even though reggie was terrible Calvin got the ball thrown to him at least 10 times a game so save all that talk for somebody that don’t know football!

you whiney mutt dummies can’t remember back to calvin johnson, l don’t blame you if you don’t remember drew hill. fact is tech does put recievers, running backs, linebackers and others in the nfl. does anyone know what stephen hill wants to major in ? l don’t know what he wants to major in but we do pick some because that want a degree from an excellent school instead of some school that just has classes so they can have football. anyway for ever the reason he came with us he is ours now and you mutts can cry and get over it. everytime we get a good one you mutts cry and act like you never had a good one and we took your only hope away from you, you mutts really are crybabies. WELCOME ABOARD STEPHEN
BY THE WAY Stehpen josh nesbitt can throw the ball very well, he was not the reason our passing game was weak and you mutts can cry again because we will have a good passing game and we will keep our good running game too, you muts didn’t beat us and all we had was a running game. what will you do when we have both ? ha
