Georgia Tech’s Burnett compared to former All-American Ron Simmons
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Georgia Tech recruiting coordinator Giff Smith on Westside-Macon linebacker Julian Burnett, who signed with the Jackets on Wednesday:
“Julian is a unique situation,” Smith said. “We were a little late on offering him because of the numbers. We were trying to play the numbers at the linebacker position.
“[Westside] coach [Robert] Davis down there has been great to us. He’s coached a lot of years at Westside and Warner Robins, and he says Julian is the best player he’s had since Ron Simmons, who was a defensive tackle at Florida State.
“We had Julian here in camp before his junior year. We’ve known about him forever. The hype was never an issue with us. It was a numbers game. Due to some situations that happened in the program, and when that number became available, coach [Paul] Johnson called coach Davis and we offered Julian that day.
“He wanted to be a Yellow Jacket. I think he’s always wanted to be a Yellow Jacket. We’re excited to have him. I think people are going to be real pleased with Julian.”

High praise from Robert Davis. Knowing that several Demons went on to college & NFL since Ron Simmons, I will be watching to see how Julian does. Good luck Julian.

I taught at the middle school that Julian attended. He’s very well rounded. Incredible athlete, good in the classroom and a good kid. Definition of a student-athlete. He will make all that know him proud at Tech.
