Georgia State University’s football program officially has athletes.
Five letters of intent were walked into the athletic office at the GSU Sports Arena just before 9 a.m.
It marks the beginning of a new era at Georgia State, which has been working to start a football program for three years.
In the past, National Signing Day was just another early February day. Today it is about a new beginning - the recruiting class will lay a foundation for coach Bill Curry’s GSU program.
The five join Mark Hogan, Jr. the school’s first scholarship player who is already enrolled this spring semester.
These commits won’t officially play a game until 2010. Athletes will be red-shirted in 2009, practicing during the season.
Signees: Blake Wyatt - DB, 6-3, 190, Fayetteville, Ga. (Landmark Christian HS)
Tyler Blackwell - DB, 5-11, 160, Cartersville, Ga. (Cartersville HS)
K.J. Morton - DB, 5-9, 170, Warner Robins, Ga. (Northside HS)
Allen McKay - RB, 6-3, 210, Buena Vista, Ga. (Marion County HS)
Drew Little - QB, 6-5, 240, McDonough, Ga. (Henry Country HS)

Thank you GSU, it will benefit GA student athletes to have a another Metro football team. The state is woefully short of opportunities relative to the population. I know if my sons were top talents just short of D-1 level I would want them to play close to home so that I could continue to enjoy their games and support their commitment. You could not have chosen a better leader than Bill Curry to start the program. Loyal to Red and Black yet I am considering buying season tickets for the Panthers. If Coach Curry can convince some of the D-1’s who decide to move down to D-1AA level for more playing time then GSU has a strong future and they will be a power.

Looking forward to 2010 at Georgia State it definitely adds some good flavor to Atlanta. Very happy for Kelton Hill he is a AWESOME player heard exciting things about him before….I must say I am somewhat skeptical about D. Little he is very accurate but also oversized…….Can’t wait until the season opens.

Congrats to Bryson Strickland Offensive lineman who signed with Georgia State. He is a lucky young man who plays his heart out and will be a great addition to the team. Congrats to Bill Curry for recognizing such a fine upstanding young man.
