The “G” stands for Georgia, you big dummy!

I’m very pleased with our 2009 recruiting class. I think it was obvious that our lack of quantity is what lowered our overall ranking. The quality is incredible. Great job coaches, and great decisions signees!

This is a perfect example of why you can’t put any stock into what these recruiting services say. The good thing for UGA is they all obviously agree that we have a good class. Looks like there is some disagreement amongst the experts with UF. UF #21 though scout? Really? I doubt that. FSU looks low too. Either way, good class, we’ll see just how good in the years to come.

Someone explain to me, how does Ole Miss sign 38 players today? And Alabama seems to have year after year of huge classes. Scholarship limitations? Do they not exist anymore?

You are also doing a good job keeping the “redneck” school’s reputation up by talking about YOUR sister. Is it me, or did Alabama sign somewhere around 100 players last year too? Where the heck are they getting all of these scholarships from? Am I mistaken on something here?

Oh, and let’s start getting the word out to the powers that be on Mansour (place kicker for LHS). Can kick it well beyond the uprights on kickoffs at will.

Call me stupid but if a school signs 25+ recruits a year it would seem they have had other kids either renege on their scholarships or have them revoked? Not sure if this is academics or behavior (i.e. in the county hail) or both?

No matter, not a good sign….

Wasn’t a Chizik fan, but he has proven he can recruit outside the state of Alabama. He’ll do well in the long run.

Auburn is also the favorite for one of the best RB recruits who hasn’t committed, Oku.

The mere fact that Auburn is even in the discussion with some of these guys is great. Tubs wouldn’t have been. Love him, but it hasn’t been a great class since Carnell Williams.

Proof that assistants make the difference. Tracy Rocker, Luper, Malzahn, Roof, definitely a step up from Tubs staff. War Eagle and hopefully in a couple years we’ll compete for the West title.

By tide rising

February 4, 2009 7:54 PM | Link to this

I can already sense the Bama haters. The reason Bama signed so many players last year and this year is that we had very lean classes for several years due to the probation and subsequent loss of 21 schollies.

Also in last years class we oversigned by 7 because 3 of the oversignees were likely to choose pro baseball which they did and of the remaining signees left we knew that 3 or 4 would not qualify academically and would probably go the juco route for 2 years. The numbers worked out perfectly.

This year we signed 27 and 1 player Eddie Lacy we already know probably will not qualify. Out of the remaining 26 odds are that at least 1 will not qualify academically.

Saban probably also oversigned last year because he knew he had some disciplinary plagued leftovers from the Shula era and he probably knew he was going to boot a few of those punks.

Sure enough Jimmy Johns and a couple of the other inherited problem children from the Shula era got the boot for off the field problems and this freed up some more schollies. Don’t be hating just because we finished no. 1 recruiting 2 years in a row. Its due to the numbers being inflated from all the schollies available now.

Everybody in the SEC did great. Florida, like UGA, didn’t have big numbers of schollies to give but their quality of talent this year is as good as that of Bama and Lsu who did finish much higher but only because we had many more schollies to give. The ratings are misleading because LSU and Bama simply had more schollies to give this year. That’s all.

Glenn, I nominate you. Look forward to hearing you report back in 2013.

By LADG

February 4, 2009 8:05 PM | Link to this

If you look at the average ratings of the players signed, it’s a better indication of quality than the overall school rank because the number of signees factors into the “points” total but does not affect the average rating of those signed. On that basis, UGA ranks in the top 5.

It’s also a bit deceptive because schools with less available scholarships have, generally, more experience in their current roster (didn’t turn over as many players). UGA has a host of 2nd year players (redshirt and true Sophs) with a year of on the field experience. I’m as excited (more, actually) about the quality of those guys as I am about kids coming out of H.S. no matter how highly touted.

UGA’s going to be loaded, if they can dodge the injury tsunami that hit them this year.

Well looks like the Dawgs again are a distant 3rd in recruiting in the SEC. Alabama and LSU has cleaned our clocks again. South Carolina has come on strong again. Looks like the dawgs will continue to struggle with that mediocre program in years to come. This class is another bust!

Just to clear up some confusion amongst those that think Alabama has signed more players than what is allowed. Last year, they lost 2 to baseball and 2 to academics. Most SEC schools recruit more than they need to due to issues that are unforseen prior to signing day and shortly after. Also, you don’t have to use the full allotment of scholarships each year. Schools Grayshirt quite a bit as well.

You beat Georgia and Clemson. Not exactly world beaters last season.

And who does the SEC have to thank for an .000 winning percentage against the Mountain West this bowl season? Oh, that’s right it’s the team winning with the great recruiting class.

If Saban is such a genious, why couldn’t he figure out how to beat identical spread offenses in consecutive games.

By tide rising

Billy Jack,

Seems like you enjoy doing a little revisionist history there buddy. To say Bama hasn’t been a player in forever is a little silly. We were ranked 3rd in the country for most of the 2005 season, we have 4 10+ winning seasons in the past 10 years and an sec title. Sure, we had some down years in the 2000s due to the probation but we also had some good years in between. that you like to conveniently forget.

Incidentally, a 14 pt loss to a Utah team that finished unbeaten and no. 2 in the country isn’t exactly a beatdown. A beatdown is when you lose by 20 or 30 pts or when you lose a game that was essentially over in the 1st half but some garbage tds in the last 3 minutes made the score look respectable. A beatdown is when you lose 49-10 to your biggest rival. A 14 pt loss in a game that was 21-17 late in the 3rd qtr aint exactly a “beatdown”. Methinks you are the idiot.

Talk about revisionist history! Bama was losing that game 21-0.

They cut it to 21-17 with a punt return and a fumble recovery deep in Utah’s territory early in the 3rd Quarter.

The Utes then tacked on another 10 unanswered.

You were NEVER in that game.

So, how many of you realize that the tail wags the dog on rankings? When UGA, AU, UF, or even lowly Tech start looking at a lower-ranked recruit, they get a bump from two to three stars or three to four stars. The recruiting services take who is recruiting them into account big time.

If you want proof, do a little research on past years’ classes. Tech has several NFL players that were 3 stars. UGA, the more popular program, has NFLers who were 4 or 5 stars in high school.

By ............................................BuLLdawg

February 4, 2009 9:16 PM | Link to this

It is no different how recruiting in 2009 ended from how the 2008 Season ended.

Georgia had a much better Season 2008 than Tech and now has a much better recruiting class in 2009, too.

Hey, Tennessee. The same goes for you.

And, you too Auburn.

The problem with these “ranking” is they are biased toward the number of players signed. If average “points” per player are used a completely different ranking occur. Would you rather have a bunch of average players, or fewer quality players? Some schools have fewer scholarships available in any given year. This ranking system doesn’t smooth out those variations.

By 8 Straight

First of all, how can any Dawg fans or Barn fans be running their mouth in a negative fashion about the Tide? UGA supporters should just be thankful you do not have to play us until atleast 2010. There is no chance in hell that you make it to the SEC title game with your soft D and Tebow still around. Today, Alabama signed 3 players ranked Number 1 at their positions, a RB,CB,and OT. Not to mention Alabama signed a QB, 3 LB’s, and a Wr in the Top Ten of their positions. Accompany that with the tireless intense coaching of CNS and the expansion of Bryant Denny to over 100,000, the days of Alabama dominating shall return. Roll Tide.

I love to see all of the Bama haters on here..Nice to see the fear in their words. Bottom line is that in 2008 we were 2 years AHEAD of schedule in finishing 12-2. We probably will dip a bit this year but a 10 win season is very much in reach. 2010 is when we will seriously compete for the NC. The Barn, on the other hand, will have to really pray very very hard just to be bowl eligible with their current head coach, no matter who they get to commit. Just facts. By the way, Georgia signed a very good class (Brown and Green will be very hard to defend). Tennessee did also, but they are like Auburn in having a crappy head coach. Hope Georgia really beats them down before we do.

Curious here. I remember reading on these same blogs the day that when Nick Saban was hired, he would be one and done at Bama. That didn’t happen. Then after the first season, in these same blogs, some of you were saying he would be done after season 2. That didn’t happen either. Now he’ll be gone after 3? When is he leaving? I just want to know so I can prepare for it. Please tell me.

Look not only at this years class, check out www.scout.com and go to eligibility and look for example at USC. Why do they only have 10 eligible for 2010 and 8 for 2009? I prefer the 20 signees a year, reload and go. Look at average quality of UGA and no one is better, only reason classes rank higher is number of signees gives more points. Which is better you can sign 20, only go for best in land that fit the needs, would UGA’s class be better if they had 5 more 3 stars, maybe the odds get better they signed a sleeper. BTW how can Arkansas sign 37? others were in 30’s.

By Red GA Dawg

Having sons it is awful to think of these men as castoffs, one was invited to walk on and didn’t, he did live with greyshirt, most don’t workout, better to be invited walk on. Advice is find level of program where you can play, D-III is great ball and men work hard for championships.

Another great haul for the Tide, the second in a row. We’re quickly building up our talent base.

But LSU, UGa, and Fla have great classes too. The SEC is like an All-Star league compared to the rest of the country. 4 teams in the top 10 and 7 in the top 20.

It will come down to player development and coaching. Coach Saban takes a back seat to nobody there.

But Richardson came down to Bama/UF & it WAS fun to take the #1 player in fla away from the gators.

I am not fond of being critical of other posters. It is petty. However, it is mighty difficult not to comment on “More of the Same”. What planet is he living on? Can he read? He can not think (that’s so obvious as to not be a question). Georgia, with a class small in numbers, made every service’s top 10 recruiting class lists. The average stars rating from Rivals for the UGA class is 3.83. That is in the top 5.

More importantly, Coach Richt will not over sign as to numbers and then “throw another player under the bus.” Somebody will be losing a scholly at Alabama. That is not surprising to me based on my view of Saban. He (Saban) is without a doubt an absolutely great football coach. IMHO, a man who breaks his employment contract and leaves in the middle of the season is not a great man. It’s all in what you view as important. Obviously Coach Saban puts a big priority of money. Coach Shula was good man and would have become a great coach. He was thrown under the bus. My best friend at work is an Alabama grad and big fan. He agrees with this assessment. Of course, it became easier for him to agree when Utah was clearly better prepared to play in the Sugar Bowl.

How come you all come up with excuses as to why Bama lost to Utah??? If you watched the game Utah dominated Bama the entire game, it has nothing to do with Utah being better prepared, Utah was simply a much better team than Bama was. Funny thing is Bama beat SEC teams all year and then turns around and loses to a WAC team! Says alot about how weak the majority of the SEC was this year!

Michigan and OU actually were in those games, and AL was clearly not, which makes AL’s loss much worse!

By SEC SUCKS The SEC only had 1 decent team this year and lost 2 games to the WAC, your conference had a whopping 3 year run at the BCS NC, hope you enjoyed it

You must be either blind, an idiot or both! The SEC just got stronger as a result of yesterday’s recruiting classes. We won last 3 BCS titles, sent most teams to bowl games and had second best record in bowl wins. What pathetic conference do you support that did better?

To SEC SUCKS,

Aight., Maybe you can dog me out because of the Utah loss and South Carolina’s loss. But the sec still won 6 out of 8 bowl games including 2 wins over the acc with 1 being a blowout. last year the sec won 7 out of 9 bowl games. While everyone was talking about how much better the big 12 was all year Ole Miss pounded Texas Tech and Florida completely shut down an OU offense that was averaging over 60 a game in its last 6 games. Fla won by 10 pts. And you still think the sec sucks? What planet do you live on?

No the SEC didn’t win the past 3 BCS Titles, LSU and FL did.

Which means the rest of the 10 teams in the SEC haven’t done s**t!

Bowl matchups are a joke, UGA beat Mich St. wow, KY almost lost to E. Carolina I bet you are really proud of that one! Ole Miss beat a Tx Tech that had absolutely no defense, etc.

SC lost to Iowa, that must suck as well considering SEC fans are always talking trash about the Big 10!

TN and Auburn had horrible seasons!

Someone please enlighten me cause I clearly can’t see any superior team in the SEC this year besides FL!

And Bama the 2nd best team in the SEC lost to a team from the WAC, BBBAHAHAHAHAH!

Bama12titles, Your season ended up being an embarassment, and then you are going to try and glorify yourself cause you are in the SEC, dude why are you so pathetic that you have to climb on board with FL’s success? Cause as I said before FL was the only decent team in the SEC this year, the other teams were either not matched up well in their bowl games, or barely won their bowl games!

Overall, UNC looks to have the best sports program (Baseball, Basketball, Football) in the nation based on prospects for success in 09. Baseball team ranked pre-season #1, basketball arguably the favorite to win the NCAA title, and football with a top-ten recruiting class and preseason rankings anywhere from 25-to-8. Academics “ain’t” bad either.

Another solid (top 10) class for the Dawgs. The SEC always lands the most talent (on paper) of any conference. While I don’t think these rankings are the end-all/be-all, I think they do a decent job of ranking talent. Now that UGA has “re-loaded”, they need to focus on execution of fundementals (tackling, limiting turnovers, blocking, etc.).

By ACC really does suck

February 5, 2009 10:42 AM | Link to this

Funny an ACC fan would talk trash about the most dominate conference since the conferences realigned way back in ‘92. Jealousy and envy don’t work well for you.

Didn’t the second best team the ACC lose to the usual SEC doormat, Vandy?? Didn’t the best team in the ACC lose to East Carolina? What bowl did they play in again?

3 National Titles in a row for the SEC. The ACC hasn’t even competed for one this century.

Nuff said….

FL barely beat OU on top of it, the game was tied in the 4th quarter. Great accomplishment FL you beat a team that had no defense and was without their best running back! OU sucks and has sucked since their last NC 9 years ago!!! And then on top of that the SEC is going to brag about beating Ohio St the 2 prior years, BBBHAHAHAHAHA!

By all means you can’t control who you end up playing, but don’t act like you beat the best teams out there! You beat the 2 most over rated teams this decade in the NC’s!

Is it sec, or, suc? I guess either works since the sec does suc. ugay sucs, alerbammer sucs, flawida sucs, awbarn sucs, so does tinessee and old missy. Oh, the rest also all suc. You see, it is a suc-azz conference of retards and cheats. Only decent person in this conference is Mark Richt—but the retard fan base at ugay is gradually overtaking him. What sleez bags!!

SEC fans face reality and quit making up stuff in your heads!

Just cause 1 team in your conference wins the BCS bull s**t national championship doesn’t mean you have the best conference!

Should LSU even have been in the NC before this past year? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will portray the mentality of an SEC fan.

SEC FAN: My team sucks, but since FL always beats us and has won 2 NC’s this decade we think we are the best too, and you want to know something else, when another team in the SEC beats us, I become a fan of their team too! So leave us alone, even though most of our conference sucks, it doesn’t matter cause we have won the past 3 NC’s! Even though a team like TN lost to Wy and UCLA we are still the best !

Bama has sign 57 players in last two years,85 scolly limit, This is why he released 17 from scholarship. If you sign with Bama especially LB(17), don`t unpack all your clothes. I admit he has recruited well, but ethics is questionable by many. Being a State University Bama will always do well in Alabama as UGA does very good in Ga.

Interesting year. Word is that next year’s flock is loaded across the Southeast. A lot more talent for everyone in Feb of 2010.

What’s also interesting is how many of these kids DON’T pan out. Grades, work ethic, poor behavior, or just home sickness. So development and retention matter …as much or more.. than whether or not you have a top ten class. I like UF’s class, and FSU seems to be awake again. Good for the Semis.

Counting the days until September!

Go Gators.

TO SEC SUCKS,

To date you are clearly the biggest idiot I have seen on this blog. First of all you say that the sec, which went 7-2 last year and 6-2 in bowl games this year sucks. Then you say bama sucks even though we won 12 games. How many teams won 12 games? Then you say Florida isn’t all that great because they beat an OU team that sucks and that Ohio State sucked the last 3 years. Is there any team out there in your mind that doesn’t suck? Apparently out of 119 d-1 football teams they all suck. You sound like an acc fan. Maybe that conference is the only one that doesn’t suck even though they went 4-6 and got whooped in the chick fil a bowl 38-3 and the conference runner up got beat in their bowl game by the sec traditional doormat Vandy. Going by your logic apparently everyone sucks. You are a freaking piece of work. Go back to your corner you imbecile. Andy BTW, who exactly is your favorite team and conference. I suspect its the acc which has lost 8 or 9 straight bcs bowl games, hasn’t won an nc in 10 years, and got thrashed by the sec in the bowl games yet again.

Bama 12-have to agree with you on this one-SEC sucks sounds like a nutcase.SEC is more dominant than ever before and its getting stronger.Look at the recruiting numbers great players want to play with great players. He sounds like some tech idiot, they all have an inferiority complex.

Bama 12, you won 12 games this year, when was the last time you did that?

And those 12 wins were mostly against weak SEC teams with no offenses.

Big 12 no defense, SEC no offense.

The mighty Gators could only put up 24 against the horrific Big 12 defense! You now how Bama ended their season, I won’t go into details

Hey AJC, where are you? This 5 star & nations #2 rated CB signed with Vols today. Where was he on your top southern 100 list????

Lake Charles, Louisiana five-star defensive back Janzen Jackson has known in his heart for weeks that he wanted to be a Vol. Tuesday, Jackson gave the Vol coaches the final word that he was heading to Tennessee and he made it official with his mom present Thursday morning. The difference for the Vols in the end was not the facilities, but it was defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin

By Red GA Dawg

February 5, 2009 1:51 PM | Link to this

Just read Tiffin’s comments about Meyer’s recruiting, if he continues in this vein he had better recruit better than this class, keep best in TN in state (did not this year) and produce wins, obviously loyalty and long term success do not mean much in Vol State. SEC is tough conference there is enough talent for all if you can coach and keep kids in school and out of trouble. If Kiffin isn’t better in college than pros it may be short trip. Will be interesting in fall when he should shake Meyer’s hand after being slaughtered, wonder if Meyer will even offer, Meyer doesn’t take prisoners, Dawgs know that and we did not accuse him of cheating. Never heard you could not call recruits if they were on other school visits, learn something new every day. Meyer and Saban will show no mercy, to bad for players.

SEC SUCKS-you said 2 teams are good in the SEC-OK count with me jackass-FLA-ALA-GA-LSU-OLE MISS-and until recently TENN and Auburn. The teams i mentioned are perenial 10 win teams every year.Georgia is just behind Southern Cal as the school with the most wins last 8 yrs.Ole Miss will be around 10 wins for a while.State facts or go to the tech blog-they deal with fantasy over there. This is big boy football here. The sec cannot help who they pair up with in bowls,it is always some Big 10 that sucks. The SEC will win 3 of the next 5 NC.I know, the SEC is really the 500 lb gorilla in the room.

Since I’ve been scanning the paper on these recruiting seasons for some 30 years plus or so I can’t rememember too many seasons where Ga. did’nt have a top 10 class. But I can remember some subpar football seasons. As for Tech I can’t remember too many top 15 recruiting seasons but can remember several in the 20 to 40 range and when that generally happens with a good coach Tech beats the Ga’s of the college football world. The Big picture is attrition, player development and positioning, academics, etc…play a role bigger than these recruiting services can measure.

Most of you guys are FOS. Too many factors involved in winning games or going to the MNC game and/or winning it. 1. great recuriting class. We have all seen some of the supposely great ones not pan out and we have seen some of the great ones do otherwise. We have all seen some of the less than great and walk ons become great players. Attitude means everything. No doubt a great recruiting class means a lot but not everything. 2.Coaching. Very important. When we win its great coaching but when we lose we tend to be overly critical of the coaching. The coaches want to win as much or more than you do.(after all it is their livlihood and not yours) And some seasons it seems as if the coaching is not “coaching up”. But keep in mind there are a lot of varibles when it comes to coaching up i.e. injuries(very important)can really effect a season. 3. Discipline. Also, very important. It appears some coaches are better than others when it comes to discipline and it’s easy for us, the fan, to be very critical. Keep in mind the coach dishes out displine as the violation of rules warrants. Now if the player continues to violate the same rule, do you continue to punish him or kick him off the team. My point here is—let the coach make that decision because he, not us, knows all the particulars as respects the violation and also knows the violator better than we do. 4.Keep the faith. Keep rooting for our dawgs. Yes, we have’t won a NC since 1980 and UF has won 2 in the last 4 years. Who knows—we may win 5 MNC’s in the 10 years. If not lets still cheer on our dawgs and think twice before you criticize a 17 or 18 year old kid—remember you were once there and I’m sure you, like me,made a few,if not a lot,of mistakes. 5. Finally, I am thrilled to have CMR as our coach. I want the dawgs to win every game they play(not possible is it) but CMR strives to build good character and thru good character you know how to deal with the good and bad of life.
