Georgia Tech recruits rally to keep Stephen Hill from UGA

Georgia Tech commit Jordan Luallen of Center Grove High in Greenwood, Ind. was shocked to learn late Tuesday that Miller Grove wide receiver Stephen Hill was having second thoughts about signing with the Jackets.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Hill will formally choose between Georgia and Georgia Tech at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

One week after briefly flirting with Georgia, Hill told the AJC that he would honor his commitment to the Jackets. But on the eve of signing day, Hill has at least one eye on Athens. Hill hasn’t made an official visit to UGA, but told the AJC that wouldn’t keep him from signing with the Bulldogs.

“The first thing I thought is ‘oh no, here we go again,’” Luallen said Tuesday evening, when asked to react to the news. “I thought everything was settled after last week.

“I’m a little worried, but hopefully everything is OK.”

Luallen said he tried to contact Hill via cell phone and text message late Tuesday, but had no luck.

“He’s probably at basketball practice,” Luallen said. “But I’m going to be staying on him and make sure he signs with the Yellow Jackets.

“I’m going to bother the heck out of him. I’m going to call and text him.

“I’m in Indiana, and there’s only so much I can do. But I’m going to send out a text message to all the [other Tech recruits] and have them call and text Stephen and make sure he knows he’s loved and wanted at Georgia Tech.”

It’s easy, Stephen. Do you want to spend the next few years of your life catching a football, or do you want to spend them throwing blocks?

He’s a receiver. He wants to go to a school that THROWS the football. Therefore, he will/should choose UGA.

Ignore your phone and listen to your heart Stephen. Sign with Georgia where you can shine between the hedges in front of 92,746 fans. Why sign with a school with a weak fan base and a team that doesn’t throw the ball? The decision is clear to me.

Honestly a fellow player is the only one who has any right to contact him right now. Coaches aren’t allowed to and fans have no right to. Fellow recruits do because these guys will be teammates for about the next four years. I mean the main thing the would keep Hill at Tech right now are the friendships he has made with other Tech recruits. Only players/recruits he would know from UGA are those living in the same town.

Its very obvious that the only reason he has second thoughts is that the redneck nation “got” to him either through threats/intimidation or just plain, hard cash.

My level of dislike and contempt for UGAg simply cannot get any lower with the total lack of ethics and class that place has.

The choice is between…

You can go to uga and party for four years and work hard the rest of your life.

Or you can knuckle down and work hard for four years, and party the rest of your life with the lifestyle a Tech degree provides. This as you watch uga grads lay mulch in the front yard of your estate in 95 degree weather.

The choice is up to you.

I doubt seriouly that he is reading these boards. uga fans should hope not. If he does see what they were saying about him last week, he would definitely stick with Tech.

He can play immediately at Tech in CPJ’s expanded package or ride the pine for a year or two at uga and hope they don’t land a superior receiver in the next class or two that will continue to keep him on the pine or worse…scout team. Then in Mid November next year he can line up at A-back on the uga scout team trying to run the Tech offense.

Q and A

Q: Can I get into the NFL if I play in the GT offense?

A: YES! The best receiver throughout the 80s was drafted from a full time triple option team, NebrasKA.

Q: Can I get drafted in the NFL if I don’t go to a football factory like UGA?

A: YES! The best receiver to come out of either school in many years came from GT, Calvin Johnson.

Q: Will I get enough attention at GT though to get drafted?

A: YES! You will stand out more on GT than UGA and in fact, because, like Calvin, you will be playing from day one and be the focal point of the passing game. At UGA you’ll be buried in the depth chart, regardless of what they tell you now.

Q: Do I have to block if I go to UGA, or is that just at GT?

A: YES! You will not get playing time at any school, unless you know the plays, block, play hard, run good routes, etc. No matter what sort of offense you play in, you’ll need to block, run good routes, know your stuff, play hard.

Q: I want to make sure I get a quality education though. Look it up, you can get a great education at either school, but one school takes their students more seriously. UGA’s football team is made up of 95% academic exceptions, meaning they didn’t qualify to be at the school. They are the seriotypical ‘dumb jocks’. GT, on the other hand, only allows around 5% academic exceptions and is known world wide as a serious school, even for jocks.

Q: GT doesn’t win though, do they?

A: YES! We beat UGA just last year, and have won a national championship ten years since the last time UGA did.

Summary: YES YES YES YES…you’ll be a standout stud at GT, get drafted, be apart of a historic institution, and have a degree that your parents will be more proud of than anything you’ve ever done.

GO JACKETS!

PS -

Georgia Tech’s football players had the nation’s best average SAT score, 1028 of a possible 1600, and best average high school GPA, 3.39 of a possible 4.0 in the core curriculum.

http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/stories//2008/12/28/acadmain12283DOT.html

UGA special admit percentage for athletes 73.5. GT special admit percentage for athletes 6.2. I.E. if there are 75 players on the roster, 55 of UGA’s 75 didn’t even qualify to get into the school, where as only 4 of Techs 75 didn’t qualify. UGA should be ashamed for exploiting the athletes. College is supposed to be about getting an education first, athletics second. Clearly GT gets it, UGA does not. No wonder UGA has significantly better recruiting most years than GT…THEY WILL LET ANY DUMB HAY SEED ON THE TEAM, if they can ball it up!!!

After decades of being mediocre, you 48 year old virgins still think you’re worthy of getting top recruits. Face reality you douchebags, 90% of your “recruits” SETTLE for Yech. All you dingleberry hypocrites are badmouthing this kid AFTER he committed to UCF and backed off on his commitment to them, once he visited the joke of a campus at Yech. Johnson deserves the worst fan base in college sports. Too bad he’s getting fired within the next 3 years, LOL!!!

The kid (remember he is only 17) is split right down the middle.

If his heart takes him to Tech, then God bless the boy and let’s wish him a great career (except once a year).

At the end of the day, regardless of the school he decides to attend, let’s hope he receives his degree and will be a great role model.

Some of you really need to get some help. These kids REALLY do not care what you or I think. So writing emphatic ‘letters’ on a message board pleading your case to a 17 year old is nothing short of laughable. LOL.

This is a tough decision for the kid. I hope him the best.

Now, you Tech guys, if you have enough time to pull away from those CAD drawings you are doing for me in your cubicle, you can read up on how highly rated UGA is as a school right now. We may not have PE or EE programs, but we do have a good little biz school. See, we hire Tech Grads to do tasks for us. Whether it is designing the best HVAC system for a high rise we are developing/building or making sure we have enough power for the fancy lights… a Tech Grad will, for a fee, sit at his computer for many, many soul crushing hours to perform this task for us. Most of the time, we pay him in 10 days of the invoice and take the discount… cause we learned how to do that kinda thing. We, as well as our tenents, appreciate the hour upon monotonous hour you spend in your cubicle CADing away to make sure we have the proper sized piping so the toilets get plenty of water to flush and the poop quickly makes its way to the sewer. I am a UGA grad, but I am proud to say this… God bless you Tech Grads. You are the cream of the crop of trade schools. I thank you. My feces thanks you. We all thank you… God bless Ga Tech…

If any of you all actually follow recruiting you would know that Hill committed to UCF, then decommitted and committed to Tech, and now is having second thoughts…The last thing I think the kid needs is phone calls and people talking crap him when you have probably never seen play and telling him who he needs to play for…and its not like he’s going to log onto the AJC and see who talks the most trash before he decides…Georgia’s got a top 10 class with or without him.

Actually Pudge, you need to do some research. GT’s MBA is ranked 1 spot ahead of UGA’s according to US News and World Report. The funny thing is that that’s the school we created for our athletes. Our school that’s comprised of roughly 20% athletes is better than UGA’s highest ranked school.

I don’t argue that UGA isn’t a respectable institution. It’s a good placefor the right thing, especially real estate (a sect of MBA, that’s number 1 or 2 in the nation). But, when you compare that to Tech, there is no comparison. Our second highest athlete program is IE. That’s the number one IE program in the nation (ahead of MIT by the way). UGA = good university, Tech = great institution.

But, getting recruits isn’t about winning the academics contest much these days!

Before you make another kneejerk aattempt at calling someone a name explain how they are different? CPJ expressed to the other young man if he to a visit to Auvurn that they would pull his scholly, while CPJ is letting this Hill kid to let Tech twist in the wind with his choice? Now if I am not reading this correct well enlighten me. Again imo the only difference is in the fact he doesn’t want to lose the kid to UGA. If it where Sam Houston St. CPJ might have a more aggressive stance with the kid.

If you drag this out any longer I’ll not only take back your scholarship offer, but I’ll make sure you never step foot on a football field again, your parents will lose their jobs, cars and home. So what if I’m the most classless and hypocritical coach in football? Just because I don’t play loyal seniors in a blowout bowl game that normally never even sniff the field is how I roll. It’s not as though the fans of my team are decent human beings to begin with. They’re scum just like I am. So again, stop the games, commit, and go ahead and pick out your test takers, I mean, “tutors” from the list we provided you. If not, I’m coming after you and hell’s coming with me.
