Nation’s No. 1 prep school prospect may not make UGA trip
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Offensive lineman Bobby Massie of Hargrave, Va., who is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 prospect from prep schools, told TotalUGA.com earlier in the week that he had canceled his official visit to Georgia, and it appears he has kept his word.
Back to Massie: While Georgia’s coaches were hoping that he would have a change of heart, he had not reported to Athens by Sunday morning.
Also, two wide receiver prospects who had been rumored to be considering last-minute recruiting trips to Athens, Je’Ron Stokes of Philadelphia (committed to Tennessee) and Nu’Keese Richardson of Pahokee, Fla., (committed to Florida) also did not make it to Georgia.
However, the Bulldogs are playing host to two top targets on recruiting trips: Safety Jawanza Starling of Tallahassee, Fla., and Lowndes defensive back Greg Reid.
“They [UGA] said no one else was coming,” Reid said.
NCAA rules prevent colleges from commenting on prospective student-athletes. Any prospect has until midnight Sunday to make an official visit to a campus, even if it is only for a few hours. The NCAA’s “dead” period starts on Monday.
Massie appeared to be heavily favoring Georgia early in the recruiting process. The 6-foot-8, 330-pound Massie is also considering Alabama, Miami, North Carolina, and Mississippi, with Alabama considered to be the school to beat.
Massie did not return phone messages on Saturday.

I read on another blog that Massie said he is not going to make a trip to UGA. I also read that the weather may be preventing stokes from making his visit.

At Bama, we really need Massie to go along with Fluker. It’s kind of like wanting to have a matching set.

Would they not have called UGA Athletic Dept. and said I am not coming or that my flight is delayed? Cross those two off the list.

Dammit! How does Alabama get all the huge linemen? This is exactly what UGA needs…a brick wall of a line (on both sides of the ball)! Hopefully he’ll show up and decide to come to Athens.

How could a guy not come to Georgia for a visit. I have never heard of a recruit standing up the Dawgs. Does this mean that some of the recruting magic is gone. Not likely. They still have a top 5 class if all the 6 or 7 who are not qualified make it. If not this may not be a great year. But Georgia has enough talent that one year will not hurt much.

Wow, I thought Hargrave was UGA Jr, I can’t believe a kid stood UGA up. Especially a prep schooler who has questionable academics, those guys usually flock there.
At some point these guys who do commit and then don’t qualify have to catch up with Richt, how many aren’t qualifying this year? 7? Thats ridiculous

Massie Bammer bound, since Saban’s been there he has dipped into the slush money for paying off Massie himself or a family member or coach. Saban was known to do that at LSU but never got caught. way to go coach SaTan.

Massie may be of the opinion that UGA is loaded in the offensive line and his chances of playing immediately are better some place else. IF that is his thinking, let him go some place else - indicates possible fear of competition for playing time. Obviously if he watched the Sugar Bowl, he knows he can play immediately at UA. Of courses, this is all specualtion.

I live in Knoxville, just LOVE to see you puupies moan. That’s why I visit this site and to get info on guys like Robert Nelson that has committed to the Vols this weekend. Don’t just check on the puppies but other schools. FYI, Marlon Brown, Orson Charles, Nu’Keese Richardson, Eddie Lacy, Sam Montgomery, D D Jones (LA)a Mich. commit and Tana Patrick among others are confirmed to be in Knoxville this weekend. Lane Kiffin is busting everyone’s gonads!!! And all the VOLS fans are loving it!!!

Massie is ‘Bama-bound, for sure. Has been for some time, I suspect.
Starling, Greg Reid in Athens. I think the Dawgs get both of them.
Charles isn’t going to go to UT. Suspect he’ll either end up at U.Ga., FSU or Miami. Too cold up there in K-ville.
Marlon Brown will be either at Georgia or UT. He’d be an idiot to go to Rocky Top—he’d likely start next season in Athens opposite AJ Green, which would make opponents cover him one-on-one, with stellar fifth-year senior QB Joe Cox starting next season and either Mettenberger or Murray (both potential NFL players) under center after that.
Oh, and BaseballVol13: we’ll see how much you guys love Lane Kiffin in a year or so. He’s going to have to coach some, too. He’s hired everybody else’s recruiting coordinator (except ours), but at some point, he’s actually going to have to call a few plays. I think you’re going to be shocked at how bad he’s going to suck. He was roundly hated at USC—they could not wait to get rid of him.

BaseballVol13: I’m a Dawg fan living in Knoxville. There has been nothing better than to see you Vol fans b*tch like pansies since August. I’ve never seen a fanbase turn on their own team so quickly than I did this past season.
I kept telling folks all season you’re supposed to SUPPORT your team through everything but Vol fans have been pathetic. And to listen to most of the fans on The Sports Animal? That station needs to screen their calls better ‘cause the callers just back up the toothless hillbilly reputation.
“Kiffin is busting everyone’s gonads???” Has he gotten any of these players yet? They’re VISITING, that’s all.

You know why Gay-tor, Vol and Bama fans visit the UGA blog? Because their is nobody literate enough in each state to write their own. Have you ever heard any of their players talk? They can’t even put a sentence together. Cliff Gay-tor has a mullet down the back of his neck and acne so bad that all women except Gay-torettes won’t look at him, BaseballVol13…come talk to us when your football team can is worth a sh-t until you’ve got nothing to even brag about…..Robert Nelson is a one star recruit who UGA didn’t even try to recruit …He’ll be perfect for your team….He’s slower than Christmas….and Kingpin…good luck with Fluker staying in school…UGA didn’t even try to recruit him because of his grades…..You Bama fans are something else…one good season where you had to pull at least four games out of your a$$ to win (ole miss, Tulane, LSU,Kentucky)and you think you own the conference. Come back and talk to us after you’ve won a conference title and had ten plus wins more than one year in a row under Saban….I still laugh when I think about your loss to La.Monroe(what an embarrassment you were to the SEC) and how bout that loss in the bowl game this year…I thought Saban supposed to be a big game coach….Utah kicked you A$$.Beware of what the future holds in store for you….temper your big mouths…beacuse when you lose everyone you dis now will eat you alive. Go Rebels….and go Dawgs.

No other school like ALABAMA has their single minded devotion to winning…Football is everything to them. Georgia people are distracted by prosports. ALABAMA fans are conditioned from years of winning in the past; they believe you have to total commit to the unversity. It is not close to the level of devotion they have compared to other schools.

To all Vos fans out there…think…major recruiting violations by your new head coach (being reported by several kids being recruited by the Vols and by almost every SEC team to the NCAA) and then think…3 to 5 year probation and loss of scholly…REAL SOON. Then think…another new head coach and a continued spiral down to the bottom of the SEC. By the way, Nu’Keese Robinson has already told the Florida offensive coaches he looking forward to being in the Gator offense next year (running Percy plays). I just hope his talent doesn’t chase Dubose away to FSU. If both come to Florida, the Gators might soon have two Percy-Harvin-types in the backfield…although there probably will not be another player in college football with Percy-Harvin-skills for a long time.

And I’ve actually been to Athens, GA a few times, beautiful college town. Didn’t see many mullets or rednecks, mostly gorgeuos young women.

I am a big Gator fan and I have been to Athens, Georgia, many times. It is one of the nicest college towns in America…and a great city to boot. Too bad the U of GA is there (just kidding) or I would go there more often. Plus, Georgia fans…I agree…you have the best looking coeds in America…and I have been to a lot of college campuses. Been to Knoxville, too. Couldn’t wait to leave…both the city and the red necks (especially the red neck cops) that live there (and on a scale of 1 to 10 as far as your coeds…a 5 compared to Georgia’s 10. Florida…a 9 to Georgia’s 10. And the women at Georgia have brains, too. I have hired a lot of them for both reasons, even though I am a Gator. By the way, Gainesville is a great city, too.

I’m a Georgia and LSU fan. Georgia’s O-line will be very good without him. We’ve got Sturdivant coming back from an injury and Chris Burnette and Austin Long coming to Athens. Also, you stupid a* Vol fans have no room to talk s** about Georgia’s football team because despite how much we “suck” we still beat yall by 12 points. You have no good quarterbacks, and until you get some, you won’t do crap. And we’ll just see how much yall love Lane Kiffin after about 2 years, he can recruit all he wants, but he’ll have to actually be a good coach if he ever expects to win the SEC. With Alabama, Florida, LSU, UGA around yall will keep on sucking. And if you think Georgia has a lot of rednecks, look all up and down you’re white trash state, there are rednecks everywhere! Clarkesville, Tennessee is like 99 percent rednecks, I’ve been there once, and all I saw was a bunch of hicks with tattoos and teeth missing. Same thing in almost every place I’ve been to in Tennessee.
Tech fans- your team had to get 400+ yards rushing to beat UGA by 3 points. Do you honestly think your team will ever come close to that many yards against the Dawgs again??? Georgia’s defense this year was the worst it has been since I started watching football. And with Branden Smith, Gilliard, Abry Jones, and possibly Reid and Starling coming in, you’ll find you actually have to play good D to beat us. And how about the beating LSU put on yall???? 3 points!!! hahahaha. How ‘bout that Jordan Jefferson??? GO DAWGS AND TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is this a story? I read that none of the three mentioned were going to make their visits days ago. The real story is that UGA is hosting the top safety and one of the top corners in the country, and it has an excellent chance of landing both. As for those that chose other schools, I wish them well, but its hardly evidence of something amiss with UGA’s recruiting. Afterall they only have 20 scholarhsips…you cant sign everyone!!! Go Dawgs!!

Really good players want to go to really good programs. That leaves UGA out in the proverbial cold.

Joe, you sound like a 13 year old. LSU sure was relevant when they kicked Techs arse 38-3. ACC is a joke!

haha UGA is was in a downturn this year, they fell short of expectations so now the “suck”? haha you guys are pathetic, I mean really? come on, the only reason you get on this blog is because you are scared of what UGA is going to become in the next few years, a force to be reckoned with! As to Athens being an “inbred redneck trove” you should really know what you are talking about before saying things that make you look like an imbecile. You are being an impudent little prick and need to get a life you 50 year old virgin dweeb. Athens has continuously been voted a top 10 college town. It lies in the heart of the south, filled with tradition, beautiful women, wonderful education opportunities, pride, loyalty, and a passion for becoming everything you can be. The SEC is the best conference in football, why the heck is UT still in it? Tech fans, haha lets forget the past 8 years (1/8 though!) and go back to the series record, which we are still leading in by 20 or so games. HAHA. Goodluck guys, maybe you can design a new prototype football player that can count and not throw the ball away on 4th down!
Go Dawgs! Sic em!

We need defensive players! If we can get Reid and Starling, then I am happy. Those other receivers are not that much better than the ones that we already have on our roster. I am telling you guys that you will be suprised at how well the receivers we have on our roster play this year. They have been waiting for the chance to play and they want to prove themselves. If we dont sign Orsen,so what! He will be a great player eventually, but look at the guys we signed at tight end and the kid who stepped in last year when we had those injuries his name escapes me but all he did was catch everything thrown his way, he will only be a sophomore. Georgia needs to concentrate on the defensive side of the ball. Get Reid and Starling and maybe the linebacker who is not going to Clemson and rap it up!

UGA doesn’t need these punks if they don’t even show up for a visit. They’ve already got tons of top commitments—-just save the remaining slots for later. Don’t waste them on players who can’t compete at this level.

I saw Reid tonight in Athens on his recruiting trip. I talked to him and rest assured Dawg Nation. He told me he was coming to UGA and he told the coaches that night.

I saw Greg Reid tonight in Athens. I talked to him and he told me he already had let the coaches know that he committed to UGA. Rest assured Dawg Nation, he’s gonna be playing in Sanford next year, Between the Hedges.

This isn’t news, he has already stated a few days ago that his UGA trip was not going to happen.
