Heritage LB accepts walk-on invitation from Georgia Tech

Heritage linebacker Corey Alford accepted a “preferred” walk-on invitation to Georgia Tech, assistant coach Chris Pack said.
“Tech holds 10 slots that they give to preferred walk-ons, and they are treated like scholarship players, they just don’t get a scholarship their first year,” Pack said. “If they perform, they have a chance of earning some sort of scholarship in the future.”
Pack said the 5-foot-11, 215-pound senior has scholarship offers from smaller schools, but it appears he is headed to Tech.
“Tech really likes Corey and they are offering him one of their 10 walk-on slots to see if he can prove himself,” he said.

This is a good way to get beyond the schollie limit. I know this kid’s no 4-star (or even 3-star), but at a minimum, we’re getting practice squad depth. At a maximum, we’re getting a diamond in the rough. Good strategy by CPJ!

This is a really good program for all concerned. The player gets to attend a school with great academics, play football and a possibility of a scholly to boot. What is not to like? Believe me this program will develop more than its share of kids that will play and contribute on Saturday. I am sure all schools have some form of this program. But, to me, it would have the most value at schools with great academic credentials like Tech. Go Dawgs
