Rumor about Jarvis Jones could be true, says his coach

Georgia’s No. 1 remaining target from the state is Carver-Columbus linebacker Jarvis Jones, who is also considering Florida, LSU, Texas and Southern Cal.

There have always been rumors that Jones is destined to play out of state, and Carver coach Dell McGee was asked if there was any truth to it on Thursday.

“Four of the five schools that he is visiting are from outside of Georgia, so that would be a normal rumor … there’s an 80-percent chance [of it being true],” McGee said with a laugh. “So the person that started that rumor might be pretty smart.”

Georgia coach Mark Richt gave it one last shot on Wednesday, visiting with Jones for nearly six hours in Columbus. Did it help Georgia? “I guess things went well,” McGee said.

And while we’re on the topic of rumors, what about the one that Jones has already given Florida a “secret” commitment? McGee politely declined to even address that one. “Jarvis is not the kind of guy who is going to tip his hand. He’s going to wait until he takes all of his visits to make a decision.”

This guy sounds like a drama queen. I’m completely content with the commitments we currently have. I don’t think we’d need a distracting, attention seeker like this on the team anyhow.

Prima Donna! I don’t want want him. But if, by some weird twist of fate, he did sign, I hope they red-shirt him.

If the player likes Florida so much, why not express it freely? How does it in any way hurt him to openly express a favorite early on? These kids who play games and want to keep everything a secret so they can have thirty seconds of fame on signing day with the three hats lined up on the table…it’s immature and really doesn’t get them anything. All it does actually is cause the other programs to have uncertainty and possibly deny other deserving players scholarships. I think it shows some character issues. If a player is TRULY undecided and wants to take all his visits before making a decision, fine. But if a player has picked his school in his heart months ago and simply enjoys stringing everyone along, is that really a team player? Or is that a prima donna?

You guys are just plain dumb. If Coach Richt spends 6 hours recruiting the #1 player in the state, do you think he is convinced the guy has a problem? You are certainly not helping the cause by showing your ignorance on this message board. I hope JJ comes to UGA and you guys start pulling for someone else.

You guys are all a bunch of big whiny crybabies. It’s not the end of the world if he doesn’t commit to your program and why criticize the kid for participating in the recruiting process? If he want’s to build the drama there is nothing wrong with that. If he flips hats and choose your school you won’t say ish about it, but if he chooses another school watch the tear ducts start leaking.

Sad.

Michael Carvell, I am sure you are smart enough and secure enough to overlook silly bloggers who freely critisize?? your blogs. We should all understand you are trying to bring info to us usually from one perspective- an 18 year old kid. We should all know college coaches and their schools are prohibited from commenting on recruits. Basically .. you often have unreliable or at least often changing sources. Thank you for your work and info. I enjoy it and know that is is not a constant. I agree this blog isn’t the most informative that I have read but the big picture is that Jones still appears to the undecided on the school he will attend as has not completely ruled out our Dawgs.

Why not offer Jonathan Davis he wants to be a Dawg? Rennie Curran is also undersized, however,he’s the only defensive player that was a stand-out last season. Get players that are willing to work hard, and want to play? To h#$l with these 4 and 5 star underachievers!

Of course it’s immature behavior, George. These are 18-year-old kids. What do you expect. I sure cringe when I think now of some of the stunts I pulled when I was 18. Don’t you?

31-0 at the half

I think Reid is your best bet for UGA regarding the group of 4 players that UGA staff is going after.

J. Jones - think he is going to Florida - or HOllywood with Pete Carroll.

Marlon Brown - UGA going after Hill and Stokes speaks volumes about their thoughts of Brown going to UGA. Tennessee is recruiting this kid hard and Ole Miss is only an hour from Memphis. He desires to have family at his games - UGA does not make sense.

O Charles - UGA still has a chance - but again, stated repeatedly he would prefer to play close to home. I bet he commits to FL or FSU. Miami was the front runner until they had an issue with the HS coach.

At any rate - UGA’s recruiting class is still impressive - but so is Florida’s, LSU’s, So Carolina’s, Tennessee’s - and of course BAMA!!!

Well guys - after signing day - we have March madness, sleeping through Sunday Braves games on the sofa - and waiting until the end of August.

Congrats to the historical number 5 SEC team beating the historical #5 Big 10 team.

Again - this BAMA fan apologizes to the SEC for our bowl performance - but like I said, this will only make us better!

Kind of like BC beating UGA a few years ago - or UGA not even showing up against West Virgina for the first 20 minutes of that game. It happens when the higher ranked team overlooks a hungry underdog.

Roooooollllllllllll TIDE!!!!!!!!

bama have 1 good year out and now every bama fan is an expart at recruiting! come on its 1 year. just hope it keep going like the dawgs who comes 2 play every year so take your bama expart recruiting skills back 2 bama dont need that in GA and learn how 2 win a bowl game.WIN ALL THOSE GAME DOING THE SEASON AND MAKE THE SEC LOOK BAD IN THE BOWL GAME. SO DONT TALK BAMA UNTIL U GET A COUPLE OF WINNING SEAON UNDER YOUR BELT. GO DAWGS!

If we can get Reid and Orsen Charles I would be elated. JJones is not a kid with character issues. He is a good kid and a D** good football player. I think this guy is Florida all the way. I think he like USC better but wants his family to be able to come watch him play. Those Carver fans support their team and players whereever they go. Forget Marlon Brown. We need more help on defense. I am sick of watching our defense get kicked all over the field.Lets not forget the young players Georgia already have in the fold. they were highly recruited and I think once given a chance to play will do well especially the recieving core. The D line will be interesting. Again, young highly recruited and next year they should be better with more dept and experience. I think Joe Cox is going to have a great year behind this offensive line we have coming back if they come back healthy. I am talking 20+ touchdowns less han 8 int and just make great decisions. He also throws a bettter deep ball with accuracy.

Yeah the “prima donna” and “immature” comments are way off base. Jones hasn’t done any of that commit then decommit garbage that a lot of recruits have done and been pretty tight-lipped about his school choices. That doesn’t sound like a guy craving attention to me. Avoiding the drama has actually been a pretty mature approach to his recruitment. If you want drama, you have no where better to look than Greg Reid.

Drama queen? Prima Donna? Issues? Are y’all serious? How can you be a drama queen by not saying a word? If all the recruits were as mature as JJ, then recruiting wouldn’t generate nearly as much press. He seems like a good kid, thinking long and hard about a big decision, and keeping it all to himself. Why don’t y’all relax and cut the kid some slack?

Some of you (NOT ALL) UGA fans act like jilted lovers whenever a kids picks another school. GIVE ME A BREAK. This kid has been quite as hell through the entire process and because he may not want to go to UGA, he is a drama queen or has character issues. Some of you are just completely pathetic people who put way too much into a college football team if you can sit here and insult 17 year old kid based on his college decision.

T Jackson needs more hours to enroll. He won’t be on the team this year, perhaps 2010 if we’ll still take him.

By bigdawg01

January 30, 2009 9:55 AM | Link to this

Bobbie Massey cancelled his visit to Athens. He will be playing for BAMA.

Toby Jackson did not qualify again, and has left the Prep School he was at. He is going to Navarro Community College. Forget about him…he is a ghost.

We have really crapped the bed in the closing week or so. We need Reid, Charles and Brown. There are good chances we could end up with them.

By Elvis

January 30, 2009 10:12 AM | Link to this

There is nothing wrong with the kid taking his time and enjoying the recruiting experience. If I were an elite aplayer, I would visit multiple schools even though there is no way I would not go to UGA.

That being said, the kid is going to be a gator.

Reid will be at FSU or bama.

Charles will be at FSU

Brown…we all know where he is going, I don’t know why he is waiting.

Everybody needs to relax. Richt starts fast, builds a big class and trys to pick up some late 5 stars ala Bowden. He usually swings and misses but ends up with a top 10 class. He will pick up a hotshot receiver next year that will come in and play right away. Anytime a highly pubbed kid says “no” we get screams of “the sky is falling”.

Guys, that can’t ALL say “yes”. wish them luck except against us and move on.

Thanks for info on Jackson. Now, do we need another receiver this year? Is not Wooten a big time receiver? Thanks

By bigdawg01

January 30, 2009 10:29 AM | Link to this

Wooten is very talented receiver, but not like an AJ or Marlon Brown (height). We need different types of receivers just to shake up defenses and design some different plays to players abilities. Wooten is a stud, make no mistake.

Like Greg Reid, Jarvis sounds like a good kid and has done nothing to any of you to warrant anything to bring out any insults or criticisms on these blogs.

So Jarvis wants to take all of his visits and make his decision after he’s seen all of the Schools in person and has spoken to all of the Head Coaches and Position Coaches on Campus. That makes perfect sense to me. In fact, that sounds logical and mature,; fair to all of the Schools; not like a prima donna at all. What’s the problem with that?

So, regardless of where Jarvis decides to sign next week, it sounds to me like he’s an intelligent, respectful young man; nothing like many of you are making him out to be.

I guess those that call him a “problem” or a “prima donna” are the same ones that said this about Percy Harvin 3 years ago. I remember those that said he was all about himself and not a team player. Two National Championships later….What’s Richt been up to the first week of January the last couple of years, beating Hawaii, impressive! Maybe Caleb King should watch the highlights Spikes lighting up Mareno and worry if that’s his future once Jones puts on the O&B.

For the mutt who mentioned character, tell me again how many poodles were arrested in the offseason?

Jones is very shy and living in GA, does not wish to be hung in effigy and chastised by puppies who consider it sinful to play for anyone other than the team who finishes runner up in the SEC east.

Perhaps Jones would like to play for a Pac 10 or SEC Championship or even have the honor of playing for all the marbles in Pasadena or Glendale or New Orleans or Miami.

Now if he were a gymnast, he should go to UGA, wear his tights and he could compete for a championship. Since he wears a helmet and shoulder pads, he should go out of state or perhaps to Tech where Paul Johnson is one helluva coach.

Poodle fans slamming a HS player before he commits? Classy, but expected. The feeble slams on Jones will contine each year. Late October or early November he will be part of the total dominance inflicted by Urban’s warriors over the excuse-making poodle coach.

Memo to Urban for Jacksonville: save all your timeouts in second half.
