Georgia Tech keeps close eye on Miller Grove WR

Georgia Tech linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary will be among the spectators in attendance Friday night when Southwest DeKalb plays host to Miller Grove on the basketball hardcourt.

Jean-Mary will be there to watch Stephen Hill, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound three sport athlete, whose football commitment to the Jackets remained intact after he was courted by Georgia on Monday.

Hill discussed his decision with Tech coach Paul Johnson and Jean-Mary earlier this week.

“They reacted by saying ‘thank you for staying committed to us,’” Hill said. “They said they really do appreciate it, especially the fans.”

According to Hill, Tech’s coaching staff didn’t think he’d defect to their in-state rival. “They didn’t have any doubts,” he said.

In the end, one major factor contributed to Hill’s decision to stay with the Jackets.

“It’s just the love I have for the school,” he said. “I love everything about Georgia Tech.”

Hill says he’s going to hang out with another Tech commit, quarterback Jordan Luallen of Center Grove High in Greenwood, Ind., on Saturday.

The future teammates plan to be on campus to greet prospects from the class of 2010 during junior day at Georgia Tech.

Idiot decision. I understand he loves his school and it’s emotional, but he has some skills and he is wasting them at GT. Heck go to uf or another school that uses it’s WRs. GT doesn’t throw the ball much through the season. When your offense is the worst in the ENTIRE NATION passing the ball then you would have to be a fool as a WR to go to Georgia Tech. Paul Johnson is doing this kid a disservice by not being up front and honest with Stephen Hill. He is a very talented WR that deserves better than that offense.

If he was an RB I would say he is making a great choice since UGA is just stacked with RBs now, but he isn’t.

Recruitnik,

GT only had one decent scholarship WR last season, a terrible OL, and an inexperienced QB. They will throw the ball more next season with Hill and Thomas on the corners and a more experienced QB and OL. Hill will get the ball, if he is good enough for the NFL he will make it.

UGA stacked at RB? Caleb King was nothing last year, Samuel is hurt, the rest have proved nothing. GT is deeper at RB then UGA: Dwyer, Jones (I think he just scored another TD on UGA), Anthony Allen (He would be the starter at UGA this season if he was there), Richard Watson, Marcus Wright, Embry Peeples, then the freshmen coming in.

I think we will be stronger and pass a lot more. The run n shoot will be part of the offense in addition to the trible option. Hill went with his heart and made a good choice to stay away from Athens 52 bars, fake student ID’s and bail bondsmen

Why go to uga, play in 5wr sets and have joe cox throw incompletions to you and 4 other WRs when you can have josh nesbitt throw you deep balls all day to you and one other WR and let you go up and get it in one on one coverage?

Stephen Hill made the better choice and we are glad to have him.

Being neither a Tech nor UGA fan but a long time resident of the state of Georgia it is almost a given that at some point in time Tech will will sink back into the mediocrity that they have been consistently mired in since Bobby Dodd hung it up, while UGA will continue to be a consistent top 10 to 15 football program. Tech just doesn’t have the ingredients it takes to be more than mediocre and that won’t change. Coaches don’t stay and the fans are the worst in college football so far as game attendance and financially supporting their team. Just facts. History backs it up too.

The above is one of the dumbest posts I have ever seen on this blog. Josh Nesbitt is the absolute worst passing QB I have ever coached against. He has absolutely no technique, no footwork, no field vision, doesn’t have a clue about squaring his shoulders, and his flaws go on and on and on. He just wings it and prays. Josh Nesbitt wouldn’t complete 50% of his passes against air. He’s horrible. What was his completion percentage in 08? Wasn’t it somewhere around 40%?

That didn’t sound too impartial to me. And if I recall, UGA was “consistently mediocre” before Richt got there as well. Maybe Johnson can turn Tech around just like Richt turned UGA around. Last time I checked UGA didn’t just start playing football in 2002 contrary to popular belief. Face it, this is the golden era of UGA football we’re all living in, enjoy while you can, it won’t last forever.

Damn! Truth, facts, and reality sure gets you Tech fan’s panties in a wad. Even under Goff and Donnan UGA won more games than Tech during the same period. Under Dooley and Richt it isn’t even close.

More reality. Tech is not a destination job for any Head Coach. It’s either a stepping stone or a career killer. History backs that up. So what’s impartial about facts, impartial my a**? Facts don’t lie nor do they show partiality.

Johnson is putting together a recruiting class of high class individuals. These are GT men, men of honor, men of brains, men of great athletics. Look at the negative bile the UGA fans vomit on these blogs daily…no wonder you guys scared this intellegent young man away from UGA’s flirtations.

GT might not get the best recruiting class year after year, but we’ve won a NC since UGA…and we wipped your butt last year. Deal with that for a year UGA. What comes around goes around.
All your negative posts are what built the negative karma that caused the stunned silence ‘tween the hedges on the Black Out…and similarly allowed the in state team with much less physical talent but tougher athletic acedemic exception policy beat you.

Recruitnik Have you ever stopped and pondered to think how silly you sound? How moronic your comments are? I don’t think any recruits have ever or will ever make a life changing decision based on your views. The chances that a football player will have a long NFL career are slim. The chances that a person will have to work 40+ years like the rest of us, including yourself I’m sure, are exponentially greater. Who are you to say that someone shouldn’t take advantage of a top notch education from an esteemed institution and make the most of it. If a player has talent, the NFL will notice regardless of what system they play in. Just look at all the no-name players from small schools that are drafted every year. Give it a rest dude and grow up!

Yet I have no qualms with you guys saying that you beat the dawgs. as much as it “stings” to hear that! And UGA also does no use 5WR sets hardly ever nor have they ever seen Joe Cox throw many incompletions, nor has anyone ever seen Josh Nesbitt be such a great deep ball thrower. Jaded Jacket… you are right he should take advantage of a great education from a great school, but why make it harder on himself to possibly play in the NFL since contrary to GT fans belief GT is not the only school in the country to get a great education. He will have more balls thrown his way at UGA therefore naturally getting more looks from pro scouts. Although small school WRs still make it to the NFL, it is a MUCH harder road. I hope they teach a class on logic at GT for this kid, and maybe you should sign up for it also.

LOL, SharedTitlesR_Us has no clue. UGA played in the same bowl this year that GT played in their 1990 Championship season (Citrus was renamed CapitalOne). It was a quality bowl, even though is wasn’t one of the major bowls. I am assuming your were like 5 in 1990 or you would know that was pre-BCS when the bowls locked in teams in early November while teams still had 2-3 games to play. That is why GT was shut out of the major bowls. A team they beat in Nov. got the ACC spot in the major bowls.

Just to show you how bad the bowl system was before the BCS, Virginia accepted a bid to the Sugar bowl in early Nov. 1990 (just after GT beat them to knock them from a #1 ranking) and went on to loss 2 more regular season games in Nov. to enter their Sugar bowl appearance unranked with an 8-3 record.

Also, GT’s opponent that year was a decent 9-2 Nebraska team and Tech thrashed them just like they did UGA that year. Ironically the ND team Colorado beat in the Orange had an identical 9-2 record, in fact, only 3 teams entered the bowl season with better records than Nebraska’s 9-2.

First off, the only tool is you! second, we beat the sh* out ugay that year by 3 touchdowns, but your sooooo superior to us? Third, we beat the #1 team in the nation on their HOMEFIELD YOU IDIOT REDNECK!! You won a title in a weak a* sec that year for one. I don’t see 1 other sec team that finished in the top 10 that year? i’m sorry that we didn’t earn your respect by pounding you jokes all over the field that year, or beating the top ranked team in the nation, or beating a top ten clemson team at the time we played them. we had a tie as the only blemish, sorry to inform you, co had a that little thing called a LOSS on their resume, we didn’t! Can any moron of an ugay fan, tell me the last time you jokes beat a team ranked #1 in the nation ON THEIR HOMEFIELD?? Was any of us alive if it ever did happen? YEAH, probably NOT!!!!!!!! I won’t hold it against you that you were preseason champs that lost 3 games this year. 4 national titles to your awesome 1, thought you have the such superior program?? Look at GT HISTORY IF YOU WANT TO SEE HOW TO WIN 15 CONFERENCE TITLES AND 4 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!! don’t teams line up on saturdays for the ring?? so what, you won more in the series? you want a cookie?? we got the national titles and MOST RECENT TITLE, YOU STILL OWN 8 GAMES OF GETTING YOUR A* WAXED IN THE SERIES, AND YOUR SECOND BEST IN THIS STATE AS WE SPEAK. Look at your recent series with florida, 7 of 8 losses, 3 wins in last 18 games?? i wouldn’t say anything about recent fortunes with that resume coming from you ugay fans. But,Suck on that till next thanksgiving when we whip you in atlanta? You can’t say sh* til then! you lost your bragging rights leghumpers! you guys had two weeks to prepare for us this season and what happened? your defense is the worst i have seen in the sec by far. we scored more on ugay’s defense than we did on miss st!!! But your soooo superior that you will beat us with 12 starters back to our 19, with facing an offense that you don’t see all year with the run and shoot added to it?? you chumps are in for a rude awakening over the next two years at least! my deepest sympathy’s for you when you take that field next novemeber in atlanta, blowout city on the way! Joe cox has more splinters in his a** than minutes on the field, looks like ugay will be chasing us in the polls from the start of 09! Have fun in that rearview mirror all year, and take good care of those second place trophies for the next 10 months! You will suck in 09, ok state by 3 td’s to get it started, take it to the bank with your highschool defense!

History lesson for you idiotic bandwagon Tech fans that know nothing about college football.

Colorado had BY FAR the more superior schedule that year. They played the SEC, Pac-10 and Southwest (Big 12) Champions. While Tech played..hmm….NOBODY!!

Colorado faced 4 teams that finished in the TOP 12. Pathetic Tech faced only 1 team that finished in the top 12.

Colorado played in a REAL bowl against a REAL opponent that finished 6th in the nation. Tech played in a crap bowl that doesn’t even exist anymore against an opponent that Colorado had ALREADY BEATEN!! Who by the way finished 17th and 24 in the two polls.

So yes, EVERYONE that knows football knows Colorado is the real champ from that year and that Tech is the paper crap champ that only the tools claim.

And yes moron, an SEC team did finish in the top 10. One more SEC team finished in the top 25 than ACC too I might add. Further proof at how pathetic Tech’s schedule was that year, dipsh*t.

Seems like a double standard even if you did have your facts straight. Yet we have lost 6 of the last 8. You have lost 7 of 8 to UGA and 14 of the 18 so therefore you have no room to talk about our record against Florida, which is not much of an argument anyway due to their tremendous talent over the past 20 years. Voice of Reason Your name should be “Voice of Insanity” instead. Your comments are baseless and empty. I did some fact checking to compare a few receivers just to show you that it doesn’t matter where you play or how many receptions you have. The NFL scouts will find the talent regardless of the player’s circumstances. And believe it not, one does not have to go to UGA to be drafted.

Hines Ward (UGA) - Had 149 career catches for 1,965 yards in four years. Those are okay numbers but certainly not spectacular. Nevertheless, he’s gone on to have a long and distinguished career in the NFL because he’s obviously talented. And if memory serves me right he’s lauded for his great blocking abilities, which has obvioulsy paid off.

Calvin Johnson (GT) - Had 178 career catches for 2,927 yards in just three years despite having a pseudo QB named Reggie Ball. Johnson is also a good blocker.

Terrell Owens (UT Chattanooga) - Had only 113 career catches for 1,747 yards. He’s done pretty well for himself. Owens is also a good blocker.

Drew Bennett (UCLA) - Had a grand total of 2 career catches for 71 yards. Although his career isn’t very distinguished he’s still making more money than most of us and has been in the NFL for nearly 10 years.

As I stated before, it’s talent that gets you into the NFL, not career numbers, not the school’s reputation, and not even the offensive system. Assuming that Tech’s receivers have catching abilities, I think Paul Johnson’s scheme will produce some great receivers in the NFL because they will be great blockers.

The resumes don’t even come close to being at the same level. Really?? Do you mean because UGA’ all time record is 724-384-54 for a win % of 64.6 and GaTech is 665-445-43 for a win % of 59. or that UGA’s postseason record is 25-16-3 compared to GT’s 22-14-0? Or that UGA has 66 All-Americans and 2 Heisman winners compared to Ga Tech’s 49 All-Americans and 0 Heisman winners? Or maybe we should just point out the series record of 59-39-5? When we throw in Ga Tech’s 4 claimed National Titles and 15 conference titles compared to UGAs 2 claimed National Titles and 12 conference titles it seems pretty close to me. Call me crazy, but I am not afraid to compare apples to apples and say that both schools have pretty good football programs. That is why it is a rivalry. If either team sucked as bad as the other fans claimed, it would be like the Indianapolis Colts playing Furman.

There’s really just one way to look at this. Last year everyone said this offense wouldn’t work in a BCS conference. They were wrong. This year everyone is saying that we’ll never get good receivers because we don’t throw the ball. They’ll be wrong again. The coaches obviously let this kid in on what’s in CPJ’s playbook. UGA has shown the country the best it has to offer, and they came up short of expectations…AGAIN. GA TECH has just shown the country a little taste of what we have to offer, and we exceeded expectations and we’ll do it AGAIN. 45-42 45-42 45-42 45-42

How many of those recievers played in an option offense? Even a blind squirrel will find a nut once in a while. And you have your facts a little skewed. Saying that Hines Ward had low numbers recieveing is almost like saying that Antwaan Randle-El had low numbers as a reciever in college. Hines Ward also played tailback and quarterback, and totaled 3,870 all-purpose yards, second only to Herschel Walker in Bulldogs history. In 1996, Hines had 52 receptions for 900 yards, and also ran 26 times for 170 yards. In 1997, Hines hauled in 55 passes and scored 6 TDs. He also holds Georgia records for Pass Attempts, Pass Completions, and Passing Yards in a bowl game, from the 1995 Peach Bowl in which he completed 31 of 59 passes for 413 yards. Don’t make your stats say what they want. Terrell Owens was primarily a college basketball player who only became a starter his sophomore year. In his sophmore and Junior years he had great numbers although his senior year due to lack of other talent on his team he was double covered and held to minimal stats. This is an example of why you should go to a school with other recieving talent. You can also not compare anything Calvin Johnson did to any Ga Tech reciever now because you do not run the same offensive scheme. Face it. If it was only talent and not numbers or offensive system that got you to the NFL then there would be alot of people getting drafted to the NFL off the streets. If you don’t see talent, you never will know that it is there. How come NFL scouts come to college games or watch college highlights to evaluate talent if it has nothing to do with how well you play or how much you play in college. Once again it is not a hard concept to grasp that if you play in a pro-style offense as a WR or QB that translates to knowing such system alreay and therefore being more highly regarded by NFL scouts. Why do you think analysts keep mentioning Stafford having the benefit of “having played in a pro-style offense”. Do you watch football because you sound like the Raiders fans on the sideline who scream that they are “number 1”. You are delusional in your bias for Ga Tech.

Drew Bennett also played both QB and wide reciever in college and had to enter the NFL as an undrafted free-agent and bust his butt to get to where he is. Surely that is not the route that Stephen Hill wants to take.

Dear uga fans-

Please continue coming to GT blogs to get your noses rubbed in 45-42. You idiots can try and say whatever you like about the history of the series, but the fact is, we won. So by all means, continue to be pathetic and come to our blogs, to talk about what a fluke it is.

Do you think cmr has any endzone celebrations or blackouts scheduled for next year? He certainly is the gimmick coach of the decade isn’t he?

45-42. LMAO at you pathetic rednecks

As a side note, i guess the economy really is getting bad. Look at all of the white trash on our blogs during the day? Are you telling me that the recession is hurting the pizza delivery and lawn maintenance business as well? Tough times

45-42 STILL LMAO

Voice of Insanity I thought we were discussing receivers?? Let’s stay on topic here. The players I listed all play the receiver position in the NFL. I realize that some played other positions or other sports in college and that’s exactly why picked them because it illustrates my point perfectly.

NFL scouts recognized their talents as receivers, not QB’s, RB’s or basketball players. If playing in a pro-style offense was all it took to get drafted then every receiver that played at GT and UGA in the last seven years (pre Johnson) should have been drafted. That’s ludicrous, dude. It takes talent. I gurantee you that NFL scouts could care less about the scheme played in college. Receivers block, run routes, and catch balls. It’s not rocket science. If a scout believes a player can do those three things at the next level they will be drafted regardless of where they play or what scheme they play in or how long they played the position in college.

I have never said that it didn’t take talent you moron, of course it takes talent and just being in a pro-style offense does not make you good enough to be dreafted or play in the NFL but when are talented and play in such it causes more recognition. And you brought up numbers at the college level for Hines Ward being low. Of ourse they were low since he did not play that position 100% of the time. That is what I was refering to. And yes, if a scout “believes” that a player can do those things at the next level then they will be drafted, but if you are in a system that allows you to DO ALL of those things then the scouts will be more likely to “believe” you can. I can believe all day long that my nephew will be a great football player one day but until I see him actually play football and do it well then I don’t think I would ever expect him to be drafted either. And what do you mean by “I thought we were discussing recievers”. Everyone I mentioned, excluding the reference to Staff, is a reciever. You really are a moron. Maybe DelusionalJacket works better for you. Anyway, it is now Friday night and work is over so unlike you Techies I have something better to do. Look forward to discussing more later though. Good luck on signing day!

I enjoy nothing more than humiliating and slaughtering idiotic bandwagon Tech fans on here.

Hey Jaded, your research should have also showed that Ward not only played WR for UGA, but he also dabbled with being a tailback and QB, for a career total of 3,870 all-purpose yards. Far more superior than your overrated Calvin Johnson who will NEVER play in a Super Bowl, let alone be the MVP of the biggest game on the planet.

Oh yeah, and Ward also received those yards in 3 years. You douche :)
