Georgia coach Mark Richt keeps them laughing with road act
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Georgia coach Mark Richt is legendary for always doing humorous things to lighten up the atmosphere when making in-home visits with prospects.
Troup offensive lineman Chris Burnette said Richt was in his living room when his five-year old sister had her toy cellphone ring. “For whatever reason, she handed it to [Richt], and he acted like he was talking to someone for a few minutes. That had everybody rolling.”
Richt was visiting tight end Arthur Lynch of Dartmouth, Mass., when a movie awards show was on TV. Said Lynch, “He joked that not only was he a football coach, he was also an Academy Award winner,” referring to his cameo appearance in “Facing The Giants.”
“Nobody in my family had seen the movie, now we all want to see it,” Lynch said.

Unlike most posters on here, it’s nice to see that CMR has a sense of humor. Laughter is GOOD medicine for the soul folks. Try to lighten up sometimes, you might just enjoy life for a brief moment.

Richt keeps em laughing in the stands as well during the prime time games.(Al,Fl,Ga.Tech). He also keeps other coaches laughing when it comes to game planning against him and his pathetic coordinators(BOOBOO&Martinez).Hope he is better with his jokes than he is running a major college football program. THe program at UGA has become the laughing stock of the SEC, and college football on ESPN and CBS. With all the arrests, and all the total meltdowns on national t.v., it is funny how this guy can be so care free during and after these a** beatings. I guess the reason he is laughing during these recruting visits is because he is getting accustomed to the recruits telling him and is his pathetic coaching staff what jokes they are and that the recruit will be signing elsewhere on Feb.4th. That or he is laughing at all the money he and his coaches are wasting flying and driving all over the southeast visiting recruits when they have no shot at closing the deal. Marlon Brown said no yesterday, as did Jarvis Jones. So keep on laughing Richt, I guess by now you are accustomed to losing all the big time recruits as well as losing all the big time games.

uga did tie tenn for the div in 2007. tenn lost to fla and uga beat fla. both teams had the same div record so uga and tenn were co-division champs.uga is and will always be the number 1 football team in ga with the team tech is putting together. the recruits gaily had there are much better than the one PJ will put there. UGA can slip up every now again and lose to tech every 7 or so years. im fine with that. but i really dont think tech will win another game against UGA with that lame boring OFF and now lame unexperienced DEF they will put on the field each year PJ is there. PJ will be replaced in 3 or 4 years anyway. he will go back to GA SOUTH im sure with his weaker recruits. 9-4 will be his best year ..mark my words..

Hey Maddog, what is Billy Graham’s winning percentage against Fl?? You are a typical UGA fan that can’t face reality. And all of the other UGA fans that keep talking about this being a top 10 class. Wait until Feb.4th when all the other schools close with big time recruits and pass UGA as usual the last week of recruiting season. Why?? Their coaches can close the deal, something Billy and his boys can’t. ALso, now that Toby Jackson is gone, and Wooten&Lynch are looking elsewhere, this may not be a top 15 class. Doesn’t matter where they finish, they don’t have the coordinators in place to make things happen on game day. UGA will not win another SEC title as long as Meyer and Saban are in the SEC.

Go Gators, How great is the SEC? Your 2nd best team lost to Utah. You beat the Sooners when they didn’t have Demarco Murray, and the worst offensive play calling all year. The game was tied until the 4th quarter, we shot ourselves in the foot, take it for what it is, you cocky B**ch!!!!
By Go Gators
January 29, 2009 12:34 PM | Link to this
Ohhh so now it’s the injury card, oh and shotty play calling, it probably had nothing to do with a spectacular defensive performance. Just show some class Sooners and admit the best team won. UF forced you in to making mistakes you didn’t just make them. Come up with all the excuses in the world my friend but what it boils down to is a LOSS. Just in case you didn’t know, THATS 2 NC’s in 3 years. So yeah UF has earned the right to be cocky.

Go Sooners,
Get over it. All year long big 12 south fans talked about all the high scoring offenses and how the big 12 was the best conference easily. What BS. You guys went head to head against 2 SEC teams and got pounded by in double digit losses. Ok. St got pounded in their bowl game and Texas barely squeaked by Ohio State from the 1-6 bowl season big 10 in a game in which Ohio State thoroughly dominated statistically. The bucks ran over, around, and through Texas. Face it. You guys got exposed. Their very fact that you have to resort to blaming your loss on injuries, poor play calling, etc. is a joke. And what on earth does Florida’s loss to Michigan “the year before” have to do with anything this year. Lastly, Bama lost to an undefeated Utah team in a game that Bama clearly just didn’t care to be in after the Florida loss. Even after Bama’s loss the SEC still stands at 6-2 and last year went 7-2. I only mention that since you want to whine about Florida losing to Michigan which was last year. The big 12 got exposed as pretenders not contenders and you know it.

I like this article. Shows Richt to be the good, kind-hearted person that he actually is. Also, it’s pretty tough to call him an idiot and a horrible coach with the results that he has produced in his years at UGA. Kudos to him on being a well-rounded, likeable human being.

I could care less about conference BS, that only comes into play for SEC fans, no other sport does it, just you kids. The FL loss to Michigan was brought up cause a FL fan was criticizing the BIG 10, hence the Michigan victory over FL, make any sense?? Its funny how you say injuries have nothing to do with OU’s loss, its a good thing Harvin was able to play in that game, cause i can assure you if he didn’t FL would be blaming INJURIES!!! The BIG 12 was exposed, in bowl games. The SEC was exposed during the regular season!

I don’t intend to go play by play with you. Florida’s defense took care of the OU offense. They don’t base the winner and loser on picks thrown they base it on the FINAL SCORE. Admit it Florida is the better team and the better team won 24-14…Scoring is the name of the game and it that game you only came up with 14 sorry pts. Florida was the first real defense you guys played all year.

You continue to show your ignorance by bashing Tebow and UF for LAST years loss to Michigan in a bowl game. What was your mighty Sooners doing? Getting killed 48-28 to West Virginia.
Finally, you bash the SEC. Let’s see, the top 4 teams from your conferenced were OU, Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. With the exception of Texas, who won over “mighty” OSU in the final minute, all other TOP teams from your conference LOST their bowl games.

The Big 12 is God awful. For any Big 12 fan to dare and try and compare it to the SEC is laughable. All season long ESPN desperately tried to convince everyone the Big 12 was better than the SEC, and even in a down year for the conference they still couldn’t take the crown.
Your best four teams were exposed in their bowl games. Texas for all intents and purposes should have lost to a horrible Ohio St. team. Face it, the Big 12 will always ride back of the bus behind the dominate SEC and even the Pac-10. Heck, in recent years even behind the Big Easy.

Go Sooner, yes, I’m a UGA fan in particular. I also happen to like college football in general. Unlike some morons who bash UGA on this post, I actually have a college degree, and yes, it’s from UGA.
Did it sound strange that I was giving a plug to UF? Perhaps, but as I said earlier, I’m a college football fan in general and they were a great team to watch. I never really saw a weakness.
Are you an OU grad, or just a grandstander who loves them like the press? OU and OSU are the two most hyped teams in college football. Here’s what I propose to “fulfill” the hype. Both OU and OSU will surely win many games this fall since they play in soft conferences. Why not go ahead and arrange for Sooners and Buckeyes to play each other in a BCS game this fall. Doesn’t matter which one. That way at least ONE of the overhyped teams could actually win a BCS game. Sound good to you, Boomer?

Go Sooners, you say I’m talking trash? Have you read your posts?? I’m just responding to your delusional view of college football.
If Mark Richt were to suck up to the press (or just suck the press) like Bob Stoops we’d get into the NC with 3 losses. Texas deserved to play for the Bug 12 Championship, not OU. Must have cost a lot for all the vaseline and chap stick Stoops needed to “chug” that one out.
Are all Bug 12 fans this stupid? Nah, just Boomers.

While College football has been around for many years the old saying is that “ghosts don’t play football. Just because the Big 12 or any other conference was the best years ago does not take away from the fact that right NOW the SEC is the best. Go Sooners, why ignore my FACTS about your 4 best teams laying massive eggs in their bowl games? Even Texas was supposed to destroy Ohio St., but yet needed a last minute drive just to win. Pathetic.
Since the conferences realigned in 1992, the SEC has won 7, I repeat, SEVEN National Championships by 4 different teams. And that includes a 13-1 UGA team being left out in 2002, along with an undefeated Auburn team in 2004 that should have gotten the nod over the annually overrated Chokelahoma

Go Sooners, here’s some info you may be interested in (although you’ll still be in denial):
The SEC leads the Big 12 in all-time head-to-head match-ups with a 20-17-0 (.541) record.
Over the past 10 years (‘98-‘07) the SEC holds a 18-16-0 (.529) advantage. This would actually be higher now that UF beat OU.
The above numbers are based on “historical conference affiliation.” We think that’s the best way to look at it. But, here are the SEC vs Big 12 football numbers if based on “current conference affiliation: 277-232-19 (.543).
Yeah, the Bug 12 is all powerful.

What an ignorant comment. Of course the SEC is not a team but when you want to argue who is the better conference we will logically argue that the SEC (an SEC team) won the NC. This is really a pretty easy concept to grasp. You are obviously not a graduate of OU.

Auburn played in the SEC where you don’t need any tough out of conference games due to the strength of the in conference games. No SEC schedule is ever a joke. That would be if they played someone like Baylor or Texas A&M or TCU. That would constitute a joke of a schedule.

Go Sooner, get real! The SEC schedule is very tough even when the out of conference opponents aren’t top 25 teams. That’s why SEC teams didn’t choose tough OOC teams until recently. You, being a fan of a Big 12 team, have absoloutely no leg to stand on in this argument. The Big 12 was better this year than they’ve been in a long time, but they still couldn’t compete with the SEC. Nor could any other conference as a whole. The ultimate test is bowl season. Let no two teams from the same conference play each other and see who comes out as the best conference in heads up competition at the end of the season when everyone has played a full season to get in sync. Under the current BCS system (which sucks), this is the only thing that makes sense at all. Auburn got screwed. Everyone with a brain knows it. Hell, even Joe Paterno gave up his vote because of it! He knew that AU was the best team that year. I’m a Dawg and I can’t argue with that.

Sorry folks…but Coach Mark Richt has done a heck of a job. By any standard. He has lost once to Alabama and you guys say he is a joke. Sorry but he has owned Alabama. Loses twice to Tech, and you say he is a joke. Sorry but he has owned Tech.
Go Sooner, lets talk about Florida. Much as I had to admit it, Florida is the the gold standard in the SEC. Most times they get the job done both inside and outside the conference. And that is a fact. As a UGA fan do I like it. No. But I have to realize it.Bottom line, but in the country in 08.
As a conference the SEC was down this year. And they were still the best conference as the bowl record shows. this year not by much. Most years it is a cake walk.
Funny but a lot of Bama posters were talking trash out their fannies from the begining of the year till they lost to Utah, and now they have vanished like the funds in most people’s 401K.
Personally I have more respect for people who take it like men, and stand up and so…okay you beat us. You were the better team.

Maddog, I will have to repeat myself, I don’t associate myself with the rest of the Big 12, I see no point in hanging onto the coat tails of other teams in my conference, that is SEC logic, I would rather just base my analysis off of 1 team. Now can you comprehend that or is that too difficult for you? Ex. a Vandy team, which has the worst bowl record of any team, and they are in the SEC, has no tie into FL’s success, do you understand?
By Go Sooners
January 29, 2009 4:52 PM | Link to this
going forward could SEC fans just brag about FL & LSU and not lump the other 10 teams along with them cuase those are the only 2 dominate teams in the SEC as of late. That would avoid any confusion for fans outside of the SEC. To hear you all brag about the entire conference makes no sense to anyone else but SEC fans. And to your bowl results, that means nothing to me cause Kentucky barely beating E Carolina and UGA struggling with Michigan State hardly proves anything.

BJonDawg, as far as FL being the gold standard, that may be the case, but before the past 5 years, they weren’t much to talk about, they went 12-0 a year in the 90’s, i can’t think of the year, and then got killed in the national championship by Nebraska, and I don’t think a gold standard team would lose to a Big 10 team as FL did last year. I agree that is all in the past, but you all make it seem like they have been dominate for decades, which is far from the case. FL this year was an unbelievable team, I was truly amazed by them!
