Has UGA contacted Henry County WR Jamal Patterson?

Henry County coach Mike Rozier told the AJC on Tuesday night that rumors about UGA contacting his prized prospect, wide receiver Jamal Patterson, were untrue.

However, there is some history between Patterson and Georgia: The AJC Super 11 selection was heavily interested in UGA last summer but never offered. Nevertheless, just about every other school courted Patterson, who led the state with around 50 scholarship offers, including Florida, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Tennessee.

The 6-foot-3, 196-pound Patterson made the surprising decision to commit to Stanford in August. Numerous schools have tried to sway Patterson in recent weeks and he briefly considered the idea of visiting Clemson and Central Florida before changing his mind.

“He is definitely going to Stanford,” Rozier said on Tuesday night.

Then again, things can change quickly in the wacky world of recruiting.

“I’m sure Jamal would be interested in what they [Georgia] had to say, but they haven’t been recruiting him all year,” he said. “And being this late in the game I can’t see anything happening,” he said.

Greg Reid, the AJC Player of the Year, said that Patterson was the best player he ever played against in Georgia.

For this kid to be this good, and want to come to UGA, and we’re not recruiting him, somebody dropped the ball on this one. Coach Richt, you and your coaching staff has two kids that are in Rivals top 50, and top twenty in receivers in the country, and we’re looking outside of Georgia!Patterson, and Bowman wanted to come to UGA, and these guys have been lightly recruited, the only way you can clean this mess up is if O.Charles, and M.Brown commit. If not and these boys have good years, questions will be asked why/how they got away.Especially the Bowman kid, who time after timehas said he wanted to be at UGA. He is a Ala commit, and still showing us some interest, go get this kid!

I am so glad that I don’t have the media looking over my shoulder on every move and decision I make in my job and then allow the public to second guess everything I do. There are so many issues and situations that go into these recruiting decisions that the public is not aware of. Also, please don’t take for granted the awesome class UGA has already put together. There might be a late defection but the coaches have all done a great job and it is not over yet.

Seriously, this is the one I don’t understand. Why don’t UGA go after him?

I agree with you BIG Mike, Iwould like to hear CMR explain what has happened this year with their way of recruiting, I also anticipate a defection or two on signing day.

Bankwalker, Would you like to know why uga doesn’t go after jamal patterson? Because he is as slow as an offensive linemen. He has nice height and good hands, but if you have to measure his 40 time with a sundial you have issues. He only had a few committable offers. I do love it how he claimed these offers.. LOL

MIke, Bowman most likely could not qualify. He would be a poison in the locker room anyway. He is not as talented as his brother was and makes bad decisions just like his brother did.

Recruitnik;

I’m not sure where you get your information, but Jamal is a great kid, with great potential, and has dozens of offers from all over the Country. Jamal owes nothing to you, or to anyone else for that matter, and he has nothing to prove to you, or to anyone else.

If Greg Reid, arguably one of the top CB prospects in the Country, called Jamal the toughest Receiver he’s played against, including the All Star games, well, that should be enough for any SEC team to want to have on their roster, especially if they thought Mr. Reid was going to end up at Alabama, Florida, or LSU.

Some receivers may not have blazing 40 speed on the track but they’re fast on the field; some receivers get first downs because they catch the ball in traffic; and some receivers are just great because the play smart. Jamal is a bit of all three.

Jamal could have chosen to attend College from dozens of schools that offered, and he thought Stanford was a great choice for him because of the combination of the academics and athletics. Don’t place any blame or criticism on Jamal for not attending UGA. He’s a great talent and for whatever reason they didn’t see fit to offer him.

Even if the University of Georgia had offered, there’s no guarantee he would have accepted anyway. Jamal is a bright young man and has surely kept up with the likes of you.

Why would Jamal want to get involved with a team that has “fans” that insults virtually everyone who considers any other University, as well as his family and Coaches, and would only show interest in him when they run out of other options?

Mrs. Patterson, I mean Ga Tech Insider, you have a wonderful son.

While I don’t know for sure, I think the main reason Georgia didn’t go after Patterson is that he’s got ok speed, ok hands and ok route running. And he’s reaching the peak of his potential. Heck, I could have made All-State with Drew Little throwing to me in that offense.

That being said, Georgia does look like they’re going to whiff on receivers again this season. If you ‘Dawg fans want to blame somebody, you should blame your outgoing WR coach, who hasn’t ever really been a big fan of recruiting, which is definitely a young man’s game.

I’ve noticed this Ball guy you have now is going back and trying to get a lot of good receivers the other guy missed (Je’Ron Stokes, Stephen Hill, etc.). It’s just too late this year.

Face it puppies, your time is over!!! Coach Paul “Bear” Johnson has established himself as the best coach in Georgia. After this upcoming season the entire country. We own you in football, basketball, baseball, gymnastics, softball, volleyball, table tennis, it doesn’t matter, we O-W-N you!!! Every kid we recruit gets several degrees in engineering, not to mention being the most dominate players on the field/court. We get the best of the best and thats why you puppies envy us!! Have fun with your thugs that can’t read, and we’ll continue owning you with our student athletes that actually know where their classes are!!!! Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GA Tech Insider, First off I am not a Georgia or Georgia Tech Fan. Don’t dare call me a fan of either team. I have seen Jamal’s videos and seen him in person. There was a reason he didn’t have many commitable offers from bigtime schools. UGA didn’t offer him because he has poor speed, ok hands, and not as physical as you would expect a receiver his size to be. He plays in a pass happy offense which inflates a kid’s numbers.

I am not talking about him as a person. He probably is a great kid with a great family, but we are talking about him as a player and a reason why Georgia didn’t offer him. We can talk all day about how nice of a kid he is, but as a football player.

Hey Big MIKE and K-DAWG,

I’m sure the only oversight by Coach Richt and his coaching staff was that they forgot to contact you to get their recruiting orders. And I’m sure Damon Evans just forgot to let Richt know that he has to explain his recruiting strategy to you two to get your approval.

Delusional Jacket fans——If you play every other game like you played your bowl game youll be 500. Dont get cocky -you do this every yr after a big win or two. Act like youve been there before and win ten games for about 6 or 7 yrs straight before you beat your wings off.

Don’t know where you got your data, but Jamal has offers from all over the Country. You better recheck your sources. I would also suggest you see your Optometrist.

Really? Interesting since this year is only half way complete for all sports, let’s look at last year. Hmm, UGA #2 in football, Tech fires their coach, UGA #2 in BASEBALL, Tech just flying around buzzin’, UGA Gymnastics 4x REIGNING NAT’L CHAMPS…UGA golf #1 ranked in season, NAT’L CHAMPION tennis….etc…shall I go on???

Degree”S”? Remind me how many of those DEGREES that Reggie left with? Joe Hamilton anyone?

Last year is the past. We’ve beaten UGAy in everything this year. Riiiiiiiight, just so you know, Joey and Reggie graduated with engineering degrees. Reggie could speak 4 languages and Joey had 3 minors to go along with his Mechanical Engineering degree. Suck on that puppies!!

Hey, RecruitingGuru,Coach Richt may not have to report to me, but keep falling short on natl championship shots, and he’ll report to somebody.See it’s obvious you know little, or nothing about football. You don’t let this kind of talent slip away, coaching is a “what have you done for me lately profession”, and it doesn’t matter about 9 or 10 win seasons in the SEC! Ask Tommy Tuberville, Phillip Fulmer, or the ole ball coach in SOUTH CAROLINA,two gone, one feeling the pressure. Two won the natl title, and one, who should have, when his team went undefeated.Letting talent slip away like this is unthinkable. Jim Donnan’s staff made the same mistake, letting Jamal Lewis go, but I guess you wouldn’t call that a major slip up either. Remember Chuck Smith? Came from Athens, Ga, wanted to go to UGA, I know, because we were on the same football team in high school, but UGA passed him over. Two guys right in your backyard, that went on to have great college years, and stellar pro careers.RecruitSnafu, when you know the game like I do then blog me, but until then, shut your piehole down, because when it comes to football your not on the planet with me. P.s. I played in the Big Ten, so I know talent when I see it.

with all due respect the big 10 has far less talent than the SEC. they have really good OFF lineman though..=) to slow for the SEC DEF linemen but usaually are great blockers. and big mike you might know talent when you see it but i would still think the current UGA coaching staff knows way more than you and have their reasons for not offering that we just dont know about. i would not worry too much about certain players “getting away” from UGA, they will be just fine with the ones they have coming in this year and years to come. richt and company know what they are doing and are getting closer and closer to getting a NC. as our OFF line and DEF line get faster , stronger and more experienced our team will get better and better. no worries here.

If I remember correctly, UGA was expecting to only have 12-14 spots available this year. They couldn’t offer everyone and had to be very selective on who they offered. WR wasn’t even high on their list at the beginning. With some players no longer with the team, the early entries in the NFL draft, etc, now they have more spots open. One player dismissed was a WR and Marlon Brown was their main target. Personally, I would have loved for them to go after Stephen Hill and Jamal Patterson and keep the in-state players but WR wasn’t a priority until lately. Plus there are some really good Jr. WR’s available next year, including Patterson’s teammate.

Still a shot at Brown, although not good that TN has him on campus this weekend and he’s getting a lot of pressure to stay in-state. If they don’t get a WR this year (questions on the on committed WR making another switch), they have a lot of WR’s on campus now so they should be fine. WR will most likely be a high priority next year. At least, I hope so.

Because Georgia dont offer isnt the end of the world.Playing football is about making plays, and Patterson did.The kid finish his current with about 3,000 yds,44 tds.You cant catch the ball without separation. He had a outstanding quarterback, in Drew. The kid could have played in any conference. But choice Stanford for a great education and to play as a true freshman.50 other school believe in the kid.Remember the kid didnt ask the question about Georgia.

How many of you can get into Stanford? If this kid is so slow, how did he win the state 100m hurdles and come in 2nd in the state 200m hurdles. Patterson is a football player, a very good athlete. I’m a GA fan and was disappointed that UGA didn’t offer, but that’s no reflection on him. He showed what he can do at all the summer camps and 7-on-7 in Oregon. He went up against the best at these camps and came out with numerous offers. Best of luck Jamal.
