Georgia Tech QB recruit thrilled about Stephen Hill
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Georgia Tech quarterback commit Jordan Luallen of Center Grove High in Greenwood, Ind. admitted that he was a bit nervous after learning that Miller Grove wide receiver Stephen Hill was listening to a pitch from Georgia.
But Hill’s brief flirtation with the Bulldogs came to an end Tuesday morning when he announced that he plans to sign with the Jackets on Feb. 4.
“I’m really relieved that Stephen is still committed to Georgia Tech,” Luallen said. “He and I have been close friends since Georgia Tech started recruiting him in October.
“But I started to get worried that I was going to lose a future teammate and a friend too.”
Though Luallen played football in the Hoosier state, he is well aware of the intense rivalry between the Dogs and Jackets.
“It says a lot to me that Stephen stood firm to his commitment to Georgia Tech,” Luallen said. “For a kid from that state, it’s got to be pretty tough to turn down an offer from Georgia.”

this blog has been posted for an hour and there are no hideous/childish/degrading remarks from the doggies. ‘tis a glorious day indeed.
Congratulations to you both, Luallen & Hill. We look forward to having you at GT.

Why would a WR choose the offense of Tech over the offense of Ga??? Makes no sense really…

Stephen Hill is saying “hey i am stupid” which he is.. He has no plans for the NFL then. A WR will not make it to the nfl in that offense. Horrible decision for his future.

you know, I have been listening to all of these UGA fans talking about how a WR would be “stupid” to choose GT over UGA beacause of the style of offense. now I am not going to say that GT will ever resemble Texas Tech or anything of the like, but if UGA fans think that the GT offense will always be as run heavy as they were this year, then you are gravely mistaken. Trust me, Coach Johnson has plenty more “tricks” up his sleeve when it comes to his offense. This year was a huge learning year for the players and as they get the “core” of the offense down pat where they can execute the plays in their sleep, you will see that there a lot more wrinkles in regards to the passing game than you think. Hell, this year’s passing numbers would have been a lot more impressive if Nesbitt could hit a wide open receiver streaking down the field. That and a few drops by those WRs were evident all season. When they get that timing down and install CPJ’s full attack, the Bullpuppies are going to have all they can handle every November. Bottomline is that our receivers may not grab 8-10 catches per game, but they will have plenty of opportunities to make big plays and get noticed, espcially with us being back in the top 25 consistently and getting lots of media exposure nationally. my 2 cents!!!

This kid made a decision based off what is best for him and his family. I am sure that recruitnik has never played the game or been recruited by any one other than the armed forces. And why must his future be tide to the NFL, maybe he wants to be an engineer? GET A LIFE….

Recruitnik must be a very young person and not experienced at all in the real world. You talk about the NFL as if it is some sort of given that a WR at UGA ( or any other school that runs a pro style offense) is automatically headed in that direction? The Hill kid is 17-18 years old. Time will tell if he has the talent to get into the NFL. The offense he runs in college will have no bearing what so ever if he makes it to the NFL or not. Talent will either get him there or it will not. The kid is obviously more comfortable at Tech. So be it. Odds are that you never wore a jock strap and strapped on a helment past the age of 12 or 13 based on your comments or if you did you’ve forgotten anything learned and for certain never wore one at the Div 1 level

Recruitnik and D-Man you are both complete idiots. Hill picked Tech because thats where he wants to play so his family and friends can come see him.Don’t worry about him regarding the NFL.If he is capable of playing at the next level, they will find him and I don’t care if he is playing for S Dakota State Teachers college. The people in the NFL are obviously smarter than you two and so is young Mr. Hill. Welcome to the flats Stephen.

There is really no telling how many gullible recruits GA has suckered in with this “next level” BS. 95% never get there. How many Ga Sr.’s will get drafted this year? Two?
What do you do when your eligibility expires and all you have to show is your Basket Weaving degree? Recruits, consider the overall picture when selecting a college.

Yeah Georgia has really really shown they can recruit and develop receivers. Athens is a bone yard for 4 and 5 star recruits. Tell me who’s the bell cow of Mark Richts receiver legacy? Reggie Brown? He was benched by the Eagles this past season, Fred Gibson never made a squad for the regular season…that’s it Doggies. Georgia thinks all they have to do is roll the might G out and get anybody they want in this state…well guess what, those days are over now. Keep recruiting your thugs and your big egos and Tech is going to get Mark Richt fired.

This is just sad. Here we have a QB that thinks he’s actually going to get to throw and a WR that thinks he’s actually going to get to catch. Johnson clearly has no shame lying his arse off to lure kids to this prehistoric offense that NEVER passes. Hopefully these young men will learn a valuable life lesson here as they watch big brother down the street in the real conference winning with a REAL offense.

I suggest the clowns who aren’t familiar Paul Johnson’s entire offensive scheme take a look at what he did when he was at Hawaii. That offense threw the ball all over the place because they didn’t have a running game, so when he gets the players in place at Tech you will see a more balanced attack. With an already potent running attack, an improved passing game will make it even tougher to stop. If I were a talented receiver like Hill, GT would the the first place I’d consider. Hill’s a very smart guy!!

Sickandtired:
You failed to mention one BIG key: Reggie Brown and Fred Gibson were 4-0 against you nerds. You Techies kill me. You make fun of UGA not being in the BCS CG. No we were not obviously, but at least there have been several times this decade that we have put ourselves in positions to do so.
You Nerds have yet to even win your ACC CG, Never have even been to a BCS Bowl. Every year your team is not much of a going concern to be a contender for the NC. Though UGA has not won it at least we are always in a position to have a chance and are mentioned. Take your lone win this year. Talk it up and think that you will actually start a streak against us. Next year at this time when UGA floors you on the Flats I want to see every single one of you still posting.
You know for a fact that you were not posting this time last year. Just come out of the wood work once every 8 years when you beat UGA.
Win your Conference then Pop off. Beating UGA this past year was not that big a win when you look at the overall picture. They had a bad year. You had your best. Your team might improve a little, but if you think that UGA’s team will not improve dramatically then you folks are true morons.

Stephen is obviously smart enough to realize that he will provide GT with two outstanding wide receivers. He will definitely be one of the two starting wide recievers at GT from day one. Coach PJ’s offense has had huge success in the passing game when he has had players capable of making the plays. With the opponents focusing on stopping the run, both of these players will enjoy single coverage on a regular basis. This combination of wide receivers will enjoy huge plays in the passing game and most definitely be a huge part of a winning team!
He also knows that by playing football at GT, he will naturally be compared to Calvin Johnson on a regular basis. This attention will help him in the media and on NFL draft day!!
Due to limited practice time, Coach PJ could not install all of his offensive package in 2008. GT will install the passing portion of the offense this year and throw the ball down the field many times each game starting in 2009! The beauty of this system is that the wide receivers end up with gaudy numbers due to the fact that the defense is so focused on stopping the run.
Should he go to UGA where he will be 3rd, 4th or 5th string until his sophmore or junior year? At UGA, he will probably have 30-40 passes thrown his way during his junior and senior years with an average of 8-10 yards per catch (assuming UGA does not sign a 5 star wide receiver in 2010 or 2011 who gets all of the love from the UGA fans and coaches). At GT he will have 20-30 passes thrown his way each year (starting as a true freshman) with a 20-25 yard average AND he will be a solid blocker (which NFL teams covet). Which resume sounds more attractive to the NFL scouts?
He is an inteligent individual. I am sure he has considered all of these factors.
The future of the GT football program is VERY bright and I feel confident that Stephen Hill is fully aware of this fact!!
I look forward to watching Stephen catch many TD passes for GT for the next few years. I have been pumped since the day that I heard he was “the next Calvin Johnson”!!

BigBug or BigDud Don’t start calling out UGA players on NFL rosters. There was easily 20-30 in the league this season. And, I might add, the reason you don’t see a lot of SR’s being drafted is because the normally leave school as underclassmen you idiot!
If you wanna open that can of worms, let’s do a UGA vs. GT comparison in the NFL.
And to the other idiot who said that playing in a Pro-Style offense doesn’t guarantee you go to the NFL, that’s an accurate statement. But, the underlying meaning there should be easy for someone who knows football. Playing in this type of offense in a skill position gives you a better chance than it does when playing in some archaic version of the wing-T. And, that brings me to my next point. Anyone who thinks that Paul Johnson will ever deviate from a 90-95% run offense to a one that passes more, needs to look at his history at GA Southern, and Navy……it ain’t happening!!

Sad to say but Calvin might have won the “H” at GA to cap off a great college career. Hill will have to be great to get any attention with the great running backs Tech has, he better learn how to block.

UGA has had their best decade of football ever. With that being said, LSU and FL have had an even better decade. Must be painful to know that even during you best decade you still come in 3rd. UGA is the Clemson of the SEC. Between Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els, you are the Ernie Els.

I suppose that UGA people think that every young man that plays football in college is going to at least try to play pro ball. Well, it ain’t so. more young men use fotball as a means to get their degree than the number that play pro ball. Fortunately most of them get a job, raise families and contribute to the community. The others drop out, try to latch on with a team, drop out again and sit home and converse with the world through blogs. Then the go drive their hyster and load trucks for K-Mart. Before you critize Steven Hill or anyother young man for his choice of schools, remember it is his choice and not yours.

This really doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that Tech fans will now claim that they are dominating UGA in recruiting. They tend to get a little carried away and exaggerate things to the Nth degree, like giving out rings for a 9-4 season. How does that saying go? “I once caught a fish THIS BIG.” Sure you did Techies. Sure you did.
Anyway, good luck to this Hill kid. He’ll need it. This will probably be the most press he gets in his entire collegiate career. If Paul Johnson is telling these kids he will throw the ball to them….Oh, never mind. I’m not going to call the man a liar. Suffice to say, I hope these recruits are doing their homework. If they are they would see that Tech threw the ball more in 2008 than any of his Navy teams did. This does not support the theory that Johnson will start throwing the ball at Tech more once his players “get” the offense. That did not happen at Navy and he was there for 6 years. I would probably have CPJ explain that to me if I were Hill.

Can’t we ALL just get along?! DT, YOU missed one big point in your ‘missed one big point’ statement; the reference to Reggie Brown and Fred Gibson was ABOUT their ‘pro’ careers…. their 4-0 record against Tech isn’t EVEN a ‘point’! These guys have made it to the nfl and have failed to do anything there. The NFL is not a sure thing. In fact, it’s an elite group of men that make it. But, to suggest that a wide receiver from Tech will not have a shot at it in this offense is absurd and ignorant. We’ve ONLY seen a small portion of it’s possibilities and Tech went 9-4 with it in it’s first season! Hill made made his decision. EVEN with all you dawgs panting at his flirtation with CMR. uga has a better football program than most of the dawg poster’s understand (this based on the posts made AFTER uga lost their third game). Tech is on a MUCH needed rise and I assure you; the coaching staff at any of our opponents recognize it! Your little assessment is unfounded and as silly as a crystal ball lit up with a flashlight. The BIG POINT is, the NFL isn’t easy and you don’t HAVE to attend a major football factory to get there…where did donavon mcnabb go? Any player that chooses to play for CMR will become a better player and, if good enough, will get their shot at the pros. CPJ has brought with him an offense that is slowly unravelling and any player that plays under him will enjoy the same possibilities! Group hug at the Varsity! GO TECH!

kc-although I agree with your CPJ part of your post…as a DAWG fan I beleive the pass will become a bigger part of Tech’s offense. Also that team that ran well against the Dawgs had Peterson on it. I don’t recall a single team that dude didn’t pretty much man up to and run up and down the field on. Something like 30 100 yd games and close to 20 200 yd games. I keep reading posts about Paul Johnson’s plans to ‘throw the ball more’ next season, which could very well be considering all the noise around this WR recruit. However, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. More importanly, your QB can’t complete a pass to save his life. One of the best things about your triple-option offense is that there aren’t many turnovers. You guys are going to be royally screwed next year in that aspect if y’all start passing the ball. GT doesn’t have the tools for a successful passing game. That’s just a fact. My GT friends constantly gave me a hard time for Stafford’s pick-happy plays, but I can’t wait to see the garbage your QB throws next year. Gotta love Karma.

As a Tiger in Atlanta and having attended the Chick-fil-a Bowl and enjoyed every second of it, I can say without a doubt that UGA didn’t show up against Georgia Tech. Tech was God awful. My son’s high school team could have beaten the Jackets. The game I attended in BR against the Dawgs was an entirely different team. They flat kicked our butts.
Having seen Georgia Tech in person I can say with certainty that they will never win the ACC. They just don’t have what it takes to move out of the bottom tier.

OK, let’s be fair here. We are now going to compare record’s verses each other, BCS Bowl appearances since 2000/games won-lost and Conference Championships.
Man, that is stinging you little Bees right now, in case you need a refresher:
59-39-5 UGA
BCS Bowl apearances: 3 for UGA BCS Bowl appearance: 0 for GT
BCS Bowl records: 2-1 UGA BCS Bowl Record: The Big Doughnut Hole (0)
Conference Champions: UGA 2 Conference Champions: GT 0, (hint, gotta win your division 1st ; )
Hey here is one thing you have on us: Appearance on Blue carpet: I believe it’s 2 or 3. CONGRATS!
Now, again please explain to me why your football team is better? You guys sound like you guys use the method of Obamanomics!

Stick to what you do best dogs, the balance beam.
45-42. Tee Hee.”
Well, our receiver, Hines Ward, is playing for a SuperBowl. Your receiver, Calvin Johnson, is playing in the toilet bowl.
Your ‘best’ receiver never beat UGA either, as a matter of fact, he never even made an impact in any of the games he played against us. It will be funny to see Asher Allen shut him down in the NFL, just like he did in college.
Stick to what you nerds do best, playing World of Warcraft!

All you SEC fans out there spewing out garbage with your lap top need to give it a rest and dwell on the following for a moment:
The ACC and Big Ten lead all conferences with 22 players each on the two Super Bowl teams that are playing this Sunday, followed by the SEC (14), Pac-10 (11) and the Big 12 (10).
Just a thought…. maybe you should do the math before you do the mouthing.

Stephen, you obviously made the right choice. Look at the garbage from the puppy fans…they are truly jealous. It will be great to cheer for you and the rest of the team. Welcome to the Flats!

Could it be that Hill regards himself as a great college player who realizes that his best bet in life is a career requiring academic credentials ? What a wierd concept. It upsets a lot of football junkies when a kid decides that the the NFL is a poor percentage game. Since the NFL takes only a minute % of these kids isn’t this an understanding of reality ? Ssshhh. Don’t tell any of the other kids about this. Most schools depend on getting kids who think they will be in the Super Bowl in 5 years. These kids are not only fools, they are getting bad advice. These kids are also the juice of the NCAA.

If Stephen wants to play in the NFL, he’d better learn to block.

DE and DE laid the HAMMER, are you having a slumber party? You MAY be in the wrong ‘chat room’. DE, your numbers DON’T include a lot of substance. Granted, they are accurate, but without a national championship, what do all those numbers add up to? ZERO! uga had a great decade BUT failed to get the job done where it counts most. They were EVEN picked preseason #1 this year and ended up with three losses. Tech was EVEN worse! BUT, at least we have a history of getting it done and our future is looking BRIGHT! GO TECH!!!

And Tech has accomplished what???. History of getting it done?? Put down the crack pipe. This was about UGA accomplishing a lot more than what Tech has this decade. Neither one of us won a NC, but at least UGA was in the running. What about TECH? Not even close. They are not much of a going concern.
Win your conference Championship and go to a BCS Bowl game before you can even compare your team to UGA’s.
You guys live up to your expectations because you have none every year. No one expects to do squat and that is exactly what you do, SQUAT! 6 Top Ten finishes is pretty darn good. When was the last time you finished in the top ten let alone win 10 games.
Now, Tech future is bright. I totally agree with that, but don’t over look UGA’s Your just kidding yourself if you think we are going away after one bad season. A bad season, mind you, that we finished win 10 wins and a bowl victory. You guys win 9 games and lose your bowl game and consider it a great year. Big difference in expectations. UGA is the better football program no doubt. If you think differently then you are not very bright.
Good day

I shouldn’t be shocked in the least bit, but a tool fan just laid claim to the Super Bowl for Tech by way of an incredibly inaccurate count of ACC players in the game. Hilarious!!!!

Where exactly did the Coach for the Cardinals go, and play for…that’s right. Look at the ILB (Fox) for the Steelers, where did he go to college….that’s right. Please get your info straight. Also you have 1 player playing in the Super Bowl…Ward…the other (harrison) is injured.

I love moronic Tech fans. Fox isn’t a STARTER He never plays. One player? Really? Harrison was waived months ago. The Cardinals have this little TE by the name of Pope that destroyed you tools for years. Ward + Pope = T-W-O
I love embarrassing and humiliating bandwagon Tech fans that know nothing about football.

Inside info: Paul Johnson now that he has more than one wide reciever he can trust aka bebe, is putting in 3 and 4 wide reciever sets because he knows these formations are required to win a national championship so all you dumb GA fans that are jealous and dont know anything except what they read off of espn need to stop giving opinions

Johnson will never even win his side of the division, let alone the pathetic ACC. He’ll be forced out in 3 years, tops.

My run N’ shoot offensive attack was very successful at the University of Hawaii. I thought about installing the system here at Tech, but it didn’t configure with the roster. John’s a great back and so is Roddy. I think the fanbase will be pleasantly suprised with our passing game this coming season. Mr. Hill will have a bright future indeed.

For those who say that receivers cannot make it to the NFL in this offense, just wait and Demarius Thomas will be playing on Sundays.
