Carver DB Darren Myles has “surprise” for his final official visit

There’s a surprising contestant in the recruiting sweepstakes for Carver-Atlanta’s Darren Myles Jr.

Guess who? It’s Kentucky, who will get the final official visit on Friday for one of the nation’s top prospects. Although Myles claims no favorites, Kentucky’s chances seem slim against Alabama and LSU.

“Kentucky was the very first school to offer,” Darren Myles Sr., Darren’s father and coach, confirmed to the AJC on Sunday night. “We always said we would visit because of that, and it is an up and coming program.”

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound safety has already taken visits to LSU, Alabama and Purdue, his father’s alma mater. He just returned from an official visit to Tennessee.

“He met mostly with defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, and the coaches reiterated how he can make an early impact,” Myles said. “There was no pressure, but you could tell they would love to have him there.”

Myles said he will wait until signing day to make a decision but told the AJC that he is no longer considering Georgia Tech.

“I don’t want to be that close to home,” he said earlier. “I want to see what other schools have to offer.”

Last month, Myles said he removed UGA from his list of finalists because he hadn’t heard from the Bulldogs for weeks.

If you want to play early and play alot, UK may just be the spot for you. And you are right, UK is quietly making some noise and kids are listening to them. Should be interesting.

Buzz Fan——I’m interested to know why you think Myles is not the type of player that CPJ wants in his program.I am a Tech fan and I can’t “read between the lines”. Am I missing something? Just curious.

Did you hear that? Myles said that no one at Tennessee was pressuring the teenager to make a committment. Over at Bama the Head Coach threatens the kids if they try to consider an alternative choice. Tardition, right Bammers?

Don’t you believe for a minute that CPJ did not want this kid. He has to recruit the elite kids in order to compete. Read between the lines? I’m reading between the lines and it says that WE are not recruiting good enough to compete with the top programs… I hope this changes, for I am one that truly wants to be proud of the football program at GT.

Tech beat Ga. by 3 points. This was a sub-par Ga. team. 24 players were hurt and didn’t play. Tech played a good LSU team and had their triple option distroyed. Tech can beat some of the lower and middle of the road teams but the big teams will follow LSUs plan!!! (take care of the fullback) This year’s recrutes know Tech is on a lower plane than the big programs in the SEC and ACC.

To 4ga:

This also was a very, very young Tech team with a New HC, New Offense and everything else. We beat you in Athens and came back to do it after being down by 14 pts!

What that says, is wait until Tech is a veteran team with a Veteran coach —

Beating UGA won’t be once and awhile but more than you’d like

When Uga fans start coming on GT blogs - you know things have changed - and it’s all about GT getting better.

I am starting to get nervous about the Wildcats recruiting. They have been able to develop talent and the last thing we need is more competition to the north. UK is going to keep surprising people until they end up winning the east.

If he shocks everyone by inking with UK, he will round out UK’s best class in at least 20 years, maybe more like 30. I hope his interest is serious. I think we already have at least one Carver kid on the roster, so who knows?

Anyway, anytime folks feel compelled to explain why their staff didn’t want or need someone, well…
