Evans DE turns down Furman offer for UGA “dream”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Categories
Defensive end Reuben Faloughi of Evans, Ga., really has his heart set on playing football for UGA.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Faloughi turned down a football scholarship from Furman this week so he can join Georgia as a “preferred walk on.”
“I told Furman that I really appreciated everything, but my dream is to play at Georgia,” Faloughi said. “I talked everything out with Furman, and once they heard the whole story, they understood where I was coming from. They respected my passion [to play at UGA] and wished me the best.”
Faloughi took an official visit last weekend to UGA. Although Faloughi won’t be signing a football scholarship with the Bulldogs, he will be getting academic grants that will “just about make it the same [financial] situation as getting a football scholarship.” He is an Honor Roll student with a 3.9 GPA.
“I’m not that big on titles. It doesn’t matter if I get to play at Georgia as a scholarship player or walk on. It’s only important to me that I get to play for Georgia.”
Faloughi has attracted interest from several ACC and SEC schools, and remains on many recruiting boards as a scholarship candidate. He could be one of those prospects that gets a flurry of last-minute offers.

UGA is blessed that a student/athlete of Reuben Faloughi’s calibre is determined to be a Georgia Bulldog. I’ll be looking for him between the hedges.

“I’m not that big on titles.”
Well he’s certainly going to the right place. As long as Florida is in the SEC East, talk of titles for UGA will occur only up to late October… just like every other year.
Go Gators.

Hey ckgator, try to find something more meaningful to occupy your moral imagination.

We are not only not big on National Championship Games, but we don’t even believe in participating in them. We do have great FCA Meetings.

This guy’s turning down a $30k+ scholarship at a top academic school like Furman and will never see the playing field at UGA. Admire him for chasing his dream, but not too smart in my opinion. Good luck!

Hey ckgator. Read the kid’s quote again. He meant title as in either ‘scholarship athlete’ or ‘walk-on’. Good gosh you’re a idiot.

Hey Tech09, If the kid ever sets foot outside of the south and says, “I went to Furman”, people will NO IDEA what he’s talking about. Whether you like UGA or not, and say what you want, if he mentions UGA(or even GT) anywhere in the country, they’ll be familiar with the school and know that it is year in and year out on lists of top public educations and values.
Don’t let your dislike for UGA football cloud reality.

What a find for the UGA staff. Kid has a motor that is little seen at the high school level. Overlook in a weak Augusta region. Wouldnt be surpised he doesnt see alot of playing time before his day at UGA are over.

He’s thinking (something many recruits can’t do very well based on what we see happening out there in the recruiting game) he wants to be a dawg! I wish we had 50 more like him. He’s smart and passionately wants to play for his home state’s flagship school, a school he has always been a fan of. Kids like this play above their ability. They are winners.

I LOVE WALK ONS. IF YA THINK ABOUT IT, THEY ARE THE ONES WHO REALLY BUST THEIR BUTTS TO GET NOTICED AND PLAYING TIME. I DO REMEMBER A LEFT FOOTED KICKER BY THE NAME OF BILLY BENNETT WHO WAS A WALK ON. OH YEAH HOW ABOUT BRANDON COUTU ANOTHER WALK ON. WHO BEAT OUT A SCHOLARSHIP KICKER. BOTH HAVE LEFT THEIR MARK AT UGA.
