Carver DB turns down bigger offers, saying he’d “rather play than sit on the bench”

Carver-Columbus defensive back Bill Alexander has his list of scholarship offers narrowed down to three schools, all of which he says have offered him a chance to play early.

Middle Tennessee State, South Florida and SW Missouri are Alexander’s final choices, and the 5-foot-9, 165-pounder said he expects to make up his mind after an official visit next weekend to SW Missouri.

He said he’s not leaning in any direction. “Everybody’s the same right now.”

Recruiters from all three schools have interest in playing Alexander at cornerback. He played strong safety for Carver this past season, finishing with 60 tackles, three forced fumbles and seven pass breakups.

Alexander also had offers from Duke, Memphis and Central Florida, but he said he’s not interested in them because they were fuzzy on telling him this plans to get him playing time.

“I’d rather play than sit on the bench,” he said.

I can understand looking at depth chart and having oppurtunity to play but no one should discuss how they will work you into the schedule for playing time. PT is earned not given or discussed.

Good luck with PT at USF, they have alot better players then you who will earn it instead of working you in.

It’s never good when a kid is worried about PT at a school like Duke. I would also guess that there’s more competition at a school like USF than there is at Duke.

The kid is 5’8” and 165 lbs and he is worried about playing time. Priority should be where do I get the best education. Duke sure would sound good to me.

Is he considering Missouri State or Southeast Missouri State? SOUTHWEST Missouri State became Missouri State about four years ago, but many still confuse Southeast Missouri State with the former Southwest Missouri State.

Duh, coaches will tell you what they think you want to hear. Once they get you to sign on the dotted line, the own your butt and if they want you to ride the bench, guess what you will be doing?
